Lunch bento with pork katsu
Hannah M.

Perfectly adequate Japanese food at a reasonable price. They have quite a few lunch specials available around the $14-18 range. I opted for the bento box with pork katsu ($15) the other day, which came with half a California roll, some tempura, and a little noodle salad. It was a good amount of food for the money, but I will note the dinner box ($20) comes with more so you're not really getting a deal with the lunch box. I also really wish that the noodle side would have been replaced with a salad, and imo the katsu should have come with rice. A miso soup would have also been appreciated. They packaged up soy sauce, tempura dipping sauce, and some odd mayo based sauce that didn't really go with anything. I was bummed there was no katsu sauce, although the pork was tasty nonetheless. The woman working was nice enough in my brief encounter with her. They do not take Amex as an FYI. My order was ready at the pickup time that I selected and packaged well. Probably wouldn't rush back realistically, but it was a decent enough lunch.

Small restaurant with a very extensive menu. Had a lot of great sushi options. Service was good. Absolutely loved the theme as I am a big fan of My Neighbor Totoro

Totoro is definitely in the top three for best sushi in Ann Arbor. The sushi is always fresh and delicious. They have a variety of rolls for an affordable price. If you're looking to try something different but still sushi, get the baked lobster roll. Amazing! The interior is cute but small. It's a nice place to come with a friend or two. The service is always fast and attentive to your needs.

Tempura Udon in front. Sushi rolls from left to right: Spicy Tuna, Oishi, Hell Yeah.

Delicious food and excellent service! Hole in the wall feel but also very clean. My fiancé and I ordered a few sushi rolls (comes with miso soup) and tempura udon and everything was yummy. I don't like cucumber, which is typically difficult to avoid in sushi, but there were so many options to choose from. My favorite was the Hell Yeah roll - so yummy. Oishi is good if you enjoy cream cheese in your sushi (cream cheese taste is very prominent). We'll be coming back here for sure!

Sashimi Lunch

Food is decent. The restaurant is cutely adorned with Totoro (the Ghibli movie) decor. It gets pretty busy during dinner time (~30 min wait) on weekends. There is no wait if you go during lunch. The service here is great and the waitresses are really sweet. They have a daily rotating menu of lunch specials but I typically always get the sashimi lunch whenever I come here. Sashimi lunch ($19) // (5/5): You get 10 pieces of sashimi, a bowl of rice, and a choice between miso soup or salad, for $19! The fish is pretty fresh. This is a great steal.

Totoro Spicy Udon

Received two extremely large fish bones in my chicken udon dish. I have no idea how they would get in the dish, as it wasn't a fish entree. Will never return.

Totoro was a great experience with prompt service and wonderful studio Ghibli themed decor. The miso soup was solid and each component of the bento box was great especially the sushi. The sashimi was ok.

Not bad. No reservations taken, first come first served. Really noisy and it echos all through out the dining area. But the service and food was good. A recommendation. See my photos for more reviews with captions.

Dumpling Soup (Appetizer): Only two pieces of dumplings
Nicole Y.

Came here on a chilly night which is why I ended up ordering the dumpling soup. The size of the bowl was alright for an appetizer and it came with two pieces of dumplings. The dumpling itself is fairly large but I was also hoping there would be more than just two dumplings. This is alright for an appetizer but would probably not order this again. I also got the Totoro tower which I enjoyed more than the soup. The tower was pretty filling, super flavorful, and I really like how they plated this dish with the layers of sauces. Came here during Umich's spring break so it wasn't busy and service was quick. Normally it can be pretty busy and we would have to wait 30min-1hour.

One of my go to's when I'm in downtown A2. My boyfriend and I like to switch around whatever sushi we are craving for but I usually always get the tempura udon with our order. Super tasty! Perfect for the colder weathers or whenever I want to warm my stomach a bit. Sushi are a nice size. Fair price for a restaurant located downtown. We've always had great services when we're here. Food has always been on point. Always feel satisfied when we leave! Definitely recommend!!

Veggie Roll and Spicy California Roll

Totoro is a cute spot for sushi in down-town Ann Arbor. It's themed after Studio Ghibli and has cute decor all around! In terms of food, I have high standards for sushi, so I can't say it's the best sushi I've had. It's definitely good, but I find it expensive for the amount of portions you get. Free miso soup for when you spend more than $10!

This restaurant is very busy! I enjoy their sushi and bento box sets, but it definitely is very expensive for what you get.

Reliably good, cheap, and fast. This place is one of my go-to restaurants and never disappoints.

Food is good, but to be honest the portion is getting a lot smaller than before so in the end it is getting super expensive.

Azalea - Firecracker Roll

Azalea

3.9(54 reviews)

I went back to Azalea for a family dinner and didn't realize they had changed their menu since the…read morefirst time I visited. The quality of the food is still amazing and worth a visit, but there were some items I wish stayed on the menu. For example, the spicy salmon crispy rice is no longer available and only available in the tuna form. The portions are also smaller, now coming in three small bites rather than the two big bites from before. The gochujang rigatoni and kimchi paella are also unavailable. Some new dishes I tried and loved were the short rib and the grilled octopus. The octopus was incredibly tender and I couldn't stop eating it! It also comes with delicious potatoes. The short rib was a larger portion and also tasted delicious. The rest of my table ordered the miso cod. The miso cod was delicious, but the portion was quite small and arguably not worth its price compared to the short rib. Cocktails that I recommend are The Gatsby and The Promised Neverland if you like sweeter drinks! For the service, we felt a bit rushed as we were dining. Normally the drinks come out followed by the appetizers, but our appetizers came first and the drinks came with our mains. I think there was a missed opportunity to sip on our drinks and chat with our party as we enjoyed the restaurant's ambience. Otherwise, the food came quickly and was well served.

I'm pretty torn on this one, hence the 2 stars. I came here with a friend for dinner and we were…read morerudely greeted and told that it would be best if we sat at the bar because they were busy. It was restaurant weekend in downtown Ann Arbor and we didn't have a reservation, so we obliged, although the space was pretty empty. Once we got to the bar, the young waitress slammed menus down in front of us and acted extremely annoyed by our presence. After bothering us every minute for the next 5 minutes to order, me and my friend put in our orders in haste. We then waited for 30 minutes for our meals to arrive. I got the "Amazing Shrimp" sushi roll and my friend got the "Grilled Angus Short Rib". As noted on the menu it comes with Mashed Potatoes, Shishito Peppers, and Garlic Chives. Per my friend's request, the order did not come with the Shishito Peppers or Garlic Chives, but it also didn't have the potatoes. After asking for the potatoes, our server went back and we could hear her yelling at the kitchen staff. Minutes later she came out with a bowl of 3 potatoes, not mashed and not hot. My roll was great and I'd definitely order again if I come back, but I'm honestly not too inclined to after this experience. Lastly, the restaurant itself was freezing. It was a cold day but it was way colder inside than it should've been. We ended up keeping our coats on for most of dinner. I really do want to like it here because the vibe seemed very modern and clean, however the service, food, and level of professionalism fell short of my expectations.
