Amazing service and incredibly kind people work here. They updated my contact prescription to a newer generation that is more permeable to water so it doesn't require extra lubrication to keep them hydrated. Also one of my wife's patients is homeless and needed a contact case for his last pair of contacts so I asked for one from Brian who works there and he donated several eye care goodie bags for her to distribute which include a free eye exam and free glasses for people suffering from economic distress. After being greeted, I told them I just wanted to browse at the glasses and I asked to have the cabinet unlocked to look at the glasses of Ray bans and I told her that I was a patient and have a rx. She said I needed an appt. An appt for what? To look at glasses and/or maybe order a pair? There were literally four employees in the front office. I WAS a patient of this office. Received an email on a Friday saying they accept walk-ins for the weekend. Stopped by on Saturday and the front desk staff acted like I shouldn't even be standing in the office because I didn't have an appointment. I told them I received an email explicitly stating that walk-ins were welcome this weekend. She started a long list of excuses including that they don't send emails and that they wouldn't do that. I showed her the email and she finally admitted that it was from the company. I understand they are busy and they potentially would not have time to take me. I'm just appalled at how rude they are. Both drs are extremely professional yet friendly and thorough, with the annual exams never feeling too rushed. The office team is very efficient, courteous and quite knowledgeable about questions regarding insurance coverage, best times to schedule an eye check up and or contact lens check. I appreciate the availability of weekend appointments and have had almost zero wait times on scheduled appointments. Also really like the appointment reminder calls on the previous day! **HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE** - appointment canceled last minute because all optometrist left for the day ? - Receptionist didn't answer the first 3 calls I made and then I'm On hold on the phone for over 20 MINUTES trying to reschedule my appointment. And still didn't get to reschedule it. I made my appointment a month in advance and the day of 4 hours prior to my appointment I got a voicemail saying my appointment is canceled because all the Eye drs left for the day. So I called 3 times and on the 4th call I was on hold for over 20 minutes only to be told that the receptionist will call me back because she's helping a patient. Maybe hire another person or have better time management. And to the person that ended up answering my call why bother in the first place if you can't make an appointment? So unprofessional and extremely rude. read more

I scheduled an appointment to get an eye exam with insurance (insurance doesn't including contact fit) and they called me the day before and told me my insurance doesn't cover contact exams only regular exams and I would have to pay out of pocket. After digging into it and going back and forth, it turns out my insurance does cover the exam but how they mix it with the contact fit forces me to upgrade my insurance or pay out of pocket. After canceling my appointment I went to another Dr. and the exam was covered and contact fit only cost $42. Total of $42. Instead of paying a marked up price of $150 for only the contact fit and additional fees on top of that as if I don't have insurance. The entire time they kept making it seam like I was missing my contact exam insurance instead of being honest and just telling me it's the contact fit they're over charging me for. There no such thing as contact exam insurance, but refuse to say it's the contact fit that they're charging for and instead, call me to tell me my insurance doesn't cover the exam. read more

I stopped in today after not visiting the eye doctor for a couple of years. I'd resigned to thinking that eye doctors, like eye insurance, were scammy. I've never walked into an optometrist's office and not felt like they were trying to up-sell me on everything. However, my experience today was soooo different. Dr. Galstian was my doctor, and she was, by far, the most thorough eye doctor I've ever had in life. I explained the myriad of problems I've had with my eyes lately, and she addressed every single one. She wasn't pushy or judgmental and asked a number of clarifying questions before writing a prescription. Then, Jay, a member of her team, helped me go through a number of glasses to find a pair I liked. He was super patient and willing to find frames within my price range. read more

I came in after reading the glowing yelp reviews! I loved my old optometrists, but the wait (even with an appointment) is still ridiculously long... lunch time (1 hr.) alone will not be enough for that place!!! So I have decided to try this place out, it's like 7-8 minutes away from my work! The staff is very nice and friendly! I had a little attitude after knowing some of the details on the charges and coverage were described to me, but that did not reflect on this review! It's not their fault that my insurance didn't cover more than I expected! I really like Dr. Gartner, he seems very professional and explained things to me in details! He was not rushing the appointment or anything! I see why most people gave him a good review here! HOWEVER... one thing that left a really bad taste in my mouth even after the visit... I was filling out my personal information (including my social!!! that's how they look me up with my social security # for my coverage) and the receptionist told me to leave it on the counter when I'm done. I probably was done with it for good 5-10 minutes, a patient went up to the counter to talk to a different associate and the patient was reading my information on the form!!!!!!! He was like staring at it so hard and it was making me extremely uncomfortable! I moved the form away without being rude, but that was a good 4-5 minutes after he was staring at it and standing over the counter... I'm not saying he was intentionally doing that, but I don't think any doctor's office would allow that to happen especially with these sensitive information!!! read more

I have been visiting this office for several years now, the entire staff as well as both the doctors have been amazing except one person. There is one person from the office staff Brian Almarez who I interacted with recently - such a disappointing experience. I ordered a pair of prescription GUCCI glasses worth $420 , when I tired them on they were very ill fitting and super loose. Brian was hell bent in trying to convince me to say they were fitting - at one point he also said my ears were not holding up the frame as everyone's face is not structured appropriately (something on these lines). He made me very uncomfortable, he kept putting the glasses on my face and removing them and adjusting them and asking where the problem is and why is it not comfortable. Such an annoying experience I cannot express I was terrified. The prior staff person who helped me said if it was not comfortable they would exchange them for me . Brian said they have new rules in place for exchanges and that they will never order me glasses without some marking and measurements (no idea what he was talking about as the previous staff took my measurements) . At one point he wanted to give me a refund without even understanding my situation. I was like I don't need a refund I need my glasses. I paid over $400 bucks for a pair why the heck would I need a refund ???. I just need a pair that fits me well. Then unfortunately I had to work with him to order a new pair which costed me over $500 bucks out of pocket . He had a disclaimer you call return or exchange these , In my mind I was like whatever dude I have bought atleast 4 pairs of expensive glasses at this office along with tons of contact lenses. The whole situation was very very stressful and annoying. Today - I got my new pair of glasses, it needed some adjustments but I didn't want to work with this guy who is so Unprofessional! I just ran out of the office as soon as he handed me the glasses. I would like to continue with this office but because of this incident I am going to change the doctor. My New glasses were seriously bent. I had taken off my N95 mask after seeing a patient and my glasses flipped off the top of my head and fell on the floor. I stepped back and heard this crunching sound and realized immediately that I had stepped on my glasses. It was the end of a crazy workday. A few days later I went to Gardner in Galstain vision center with low expectations of being able to save my glasses. It's been a while since I've seen an optometrist, but my experience here was exceedingly positive. The optometrist himself was very friendly and personable, and my conversation with him made the examination rather enjoyable and fun. The only drawbacks, at least in the one time that I've visited, are the fact that they do try to upsell you on some of the tests and the nuts and bolts of your frames/lenses. For anyone who is unfamiliar with optometry and themselves, you can leave having spent a lot more money than is necessary. This is not to say that I ever felt pressured by the technicians--I knew what was optional and what wasn't. Overall, this is a great and convenient location to see an optometrist. read more

I came in to see about getting new lenses for my perfectly good Silhouette and Rudy Project frames. The gentleman who waited on me, multiple times tried to force me to buy all-new (and very expensive frames) which I did not need. I said "YOU'RE NOT LISTENING TO ME," and I finally just got up and walked out. Their sister store in Rancho Bernardo, is equally as bad with rude receptionists.
