Arrived 10 min late to an appointment that I was waiting a month for and they made me reschedule my appointment another 1.5 months out.

I booked online and received a text later asking me to confirm my appointment time and I did. I also filled out the intake forms online later after scheduling. When I showed up I was told I didn't have an appointment and I was called and told the time I booked online wasn't actually available?!?!?I completely understand I could have and should have checked my voicemail but frankly, I only get spam voicemails and it's never caused an issue before. Since I booked online and received a text, responded in text, I was watching for a text to make sure nothing was changing with my appointment, not a voicemail. If you have texting enabled, a text notification of cancellation and to call and reschedule should not be hard to set up. Super disappointing. Matching the communication style is what most companies do, expect this one apparently. read more

I've been getting glasses from them for over 10 years. This place used to be nice and is now - I don't know what word to use. For the last couple of weeks. I was not able to get an appointment. I keep getting reminder emails for examination. However, no appointment is available for the next three months for my preferred doctor. I thought this might be wrong and tried to call them. The phone was never picked up and I have to leave a message and wait for someone to call back. Unfortunately, that never happened. I tried this at least 5 times. My guess is that this place is now closed. The answering machine is kept on to trick to you believe the business is still running. What can I say. I would recommend this office to everyone. The staff and doctors are so very friendly and very helpful. Their knowledge is outstanding and answer all questions when asked. Dr. Longacre is an exceptional physician. She is very patient and conscientious and always works very hard to provide me with the best possible vision solution. I would rate her at A-plus. However, the rest of the experience at Foothill Optometric I would rate a C-minus at best. Over the years well more than 50% of my glasses have had to be redone, with the most recent pair having to be redone a third time! In an endless pattern of calls, unanswered messages and waiting for weeks, everyone is very apologetic but no one takes accountability for getting it right the first time. It's very disappointing that such a fine doctor is surrounded by support functions that do not come close to her level of service. read more

I have been here and had to replace my glasses. The glass I was using had anti glare. The new glass I bought from Foothill does not have anti-glare although I paid for it as well as I am getting eye pain and headache after using the glass.Have called them many times, they will not pick or even if they pick, they ate not helping. Lost my business. I wanted prescription sunglasses and they could not get it right! I was not going to return for a 3rd and frustrating visit and requested a refund which they were not willing to do. I walked out the door after spending one hour with no resolution and no sunglasses!! My husband and I have been going there for years and I will not do any business with them again. I am waiting for a call from someone to assist in getting this resolved but not holding my breath. Meanwhile, I've spent over $300 for sunglasses that I don't have!! Insurance Scam: Went through forums and found that in network providers intentionally try to add prescriptions to your glasses to get more benefits out of the insurance. Patients beware. Here is my bitter experience getting a refund; however not planning to write a 1 star review until I saw repeated bad attitude from the front desk staff. 1. Went there for a annual preventive eye checkup with Dr Yang. Had a good test procedure and Dr Yang orally mentioned my eyesight is fine and would not need any prescription. He also mentioned my VSP benefit has coverage for sunglasses. 2. Picked a frame with transition glasses paying ~ $60 out of pocket; however noticed dizziness and headache during first week itself; hence went there to have it checked. Found that a fairly high prescription (they mentioned 0.75) was added. These numbers were not shared with me earlier hence caught by surprise. They made me visit multiple times to have it tested again (multiple times with other staff, once again with Dr Yang) but still found that my eyesight is fine without any prescription. 3. When I asked about return/replacement policy, they mentioned they have already billed the insurance company hence they can not refund the money I paid nor they can remove prescription from the glasses. I had to fight it out multiple times as they messed up the prescription numbers and finally got a refund. Selected a Maui Jim plano glasses as replacement by paying additional out of pocket. 4. When I visited again for picking up sunglasses, the front desk staff intentionally made me wait longer (I could see folks walking in after me were getting serviced and walking out) and without any tone of apology. This review is for Dr. Andrew Yang! I have been a patient for a few years now and my mom needed a second opinion on (what she thought were) her cataracts. She had dry eye, had discomfort, and saw floaters so she wanted to get it checked out right away. Luckily a spot opened up within a couple days of calling. We arrived promptly and check in and machine tests went smoothly. Christine helped us do the tests and was very patient when my mom failed the peripheral vision test and had to try again on a different machine. When we saw Dr Yang, we explained to him our concerns. He took his time doing a thorough examination and explaining each detail along the way. He even explained the opto map to us in great detail. Turns out, my mom didn't have cataracts!...just old age, and nothing to worry about. I could tell Dr Yang really cares about his patients. A huge plus that Dr Yang spoke Mandarin as well, it was a huge comfort to my mom since her English is not great. We were happy that the doctor saved us a trip to the ophthalmologist. read more

Totally do not recommend if you're looking for an optical sunglasses. After a week of my purchase they called me back saying that the frame I selected turned to be too big and lab is asking for additional money for some special glasses. This is in addition to oversize fee they charged me at purchase. Total incompetence. Short Story: A great place to get your eyes checked! Fantastic doctors, assistants, and staff. Long Story: I came here roughly 5 years ago and have remained a loyal customer despite being in San Francisco. I have to drive an hour each way. I go see Dr. Wang and he is friendly and knowledgeable. The staff here are very knowledgeable with your insurance and can get a turnaround if they don't have an answer on hand in about a day or two. The selection of contacts and glasses here are aplenty. The prices are about average. The service is superior to anywhere else I have visited. I am definitely a fan and would recommend this place to anyone. If I could, I would give it 6 stars! Verdict: It's well worth a drive no matter where you are from...a 6 star review! read more

Had to have my annual eye exam again and of course I came back to Foothill optometric group. Was greeted by the front office staff immediately and was brought back by a beautifully sweet woman named Tamela, They were so great, I had to bring my toddler in with me because her father was unable to watch her and she was so incredible with my child. I cannot wait for her to turn 7 so I can bring her here! I was with Dr. Lily and she was phenomenal. She worked withe to make sure I understood what was actually happening with my eyes. I had had a minor head injury and came in for the exam shortly after, they recommended that I do the optomap to make sure there was no damage to my eyes and of course I obliged. And when we took the photos thankfully there was nothing wrong in my eyes. Dr. Lily and the rest of the staff were incredible. I even had help from so many people to make sure I was comfortable and my daughter was taken care of as well. You can only imagine how cranky a toddler gets the glasses selection was awesome and I cannot wait to come back next year! Thank you Dr. Lily and team! read more

I was dissatisfied with the last place I had my eye exam at, and now needed some new glasses. I had just got started researching out a new spot, when one of my Yelp friends checked into the Foothill Optometric Group. Curious, I got in touch with him, and it turned out he is a long time customer, and had high praises for them. That was good enough for me, so I mused over their web page, and booked an appointment with Dr. Sjodahl. I received an email confirmation the next day, downloaded the new patient form from the link they provided, and was set. Their office was easy to find, right off of the I-580 / I-680 junction. The waiting area was upbeat; comfortable chairs, lots of magazines and even a Bible to read. Near the entrance was a large screen television that was being used to simulate an aquarium. I signed in at the front desk, and turned in my new patient form. I had previously emailed in a copy of my insurance card, so that was already on file. Signed some other forms, and opted in for the optional Optomap Retinal Exam. They took my glasses to find out what my current prescription was. After about fifteen minutes I was called to have some preliminary vision checks done, then was led into one of the exam rooms. Dr. Sjodahl entered about five minutes later. He was very pleasant, and we chatted about leisure pursuits in addition to my vision and health history. During the exam, two different types of drops were administered into my eyes. The first drops didn't affect my vision, but the second dilated my eyes. I asked, since I had the Optomap, why I would need the dilatation. Dr. Sjodahl said so he could see more of the eye that way. They thoughtfully dimmed the lights after the dilatation, provided a dark insert for my glasses, and offered a bottle of water to drink. My vision had changed slightly in both eyes, so I received a new prescription. Next I went to view their collection of frames. I was looking for something similar to what I was currently wearing. Samantha, one of the assistants in that department found something I liked, and confirmed availability. She took measurements, went through the options on the lenses, and placed the order. I paid my share after insurance. In a little more than a week I received an email that my glasses were ready. Came by and signed in. Elizabeth was the one who made the final adjustments on my new glasses to ensure perfection. They also included a small adjustment screwdriver with the cleaning solution kit. I used their services for getting glasses for my son. That experience was reasonable, at the most (delays in delivering glasses, forgotten messages, unreturned calls notwithstanding). What happened later was completely unacceptable. We were clearly over-charged. We didn't realize it when we paid the bill. However, our insurance sent us the coverage details for this service. Comparing the insurance quote with what these guys charged us, it was clear to me that, we were over-charged $100. I took both the papers (insurance quote and Optometry's bill that we paid) to the optometry and showed them. The front desk lady took these papers to a 'manager' inside, and a few minutes later, came back to tell me that - you and your insurance is wrong. WE are right. Now, this is arrogance. There was no explanation given, nor did the 'manager' speak to me. Calling a customer wrong, without providing any reasoning is arrogance. Listen up guys, I am taking my business somewhere else. I hardly write reviews as I am a very busy person. Today I feel my responsibility to share my latest experience with these guys. Our family has been going to Foothill Optometric Group for as long as I remember, over 10 years for sure. Since previous owners sold this business to the new owners the quality of service has been terrible. My wife ordered some contact lenses which we never received. We have been calling these guys and today the finally sent us the UPS tracking this was delivered on 9/24, which we told them we never received(*apparently was left outside our door). After going back and forth the new owner called me today telling me there is nothing they can do and it is my job to take it up with UPS :-( I could not believe he said that specially when he told he is the new owner. His name was Andrew(* but refused to give me his last name) and kept referring to himself as the new Practice Manager. He kept saying he is the Practice manager, I guess by keep throwing his title he was trying to intimidate me; he kept ordering me to call UPS and file a claim if I wanted to dispute receiving the package and I kept telling him that was not my job as I did not initiate the shipment and kept reminding him that we are the customer/their client and they should handle and find out what happened. Bottom line, he said there is nothing he can do for us. So I was forced to contact the insurance company and reported them and will also report them to my credit card company to dispute the copay as well. I miss the old crew at Foothill. We never, ever had any such experience under the old management. All the staff seems to be new and in fact I think all the old Drs are also gone except one that I am not sure how long he will last under the new management. I came in for my eye exam on Friday, I was greeted by the ladies up front, all of them. Felt very welcomed. Monique helped with my pre testing and was happy and professional. I then met with Dr. Luong. He made me feel very comfortable and helped me choose the proper lens style. My last doctor made me go progressives because "is the smarter way to go" but Dr. Luong understood where i was coming from when I explained that I can't wear progressive lenses as they give me migraines. So He got me taken care of. Got my prescription right and comfortable for me and I was on my way to choose my glasses. Woo-hoo. Time to choose glasses. Next I met Christopher who helped with choosing and ordering the glasses. He was so friendly and welcoming. Had wonderful conversations and I am incredibly thrilled with the choices he brought me, I even got some help from Suji (absolutely love her,, again incredibly friendly and helpful as well) she helped guide me in the right direction with her suggested pairs of glasses. In the end it did truly feel like a team effort to help me decide on my everyday Eyewear. This optometrists office is the nicest and best I've been to in almost 20 years. It's hard to find quality employees these days and Foothill Optometric group seems to have found them all :) I will definitely be coming back. 10 out of 10. Would reccomend. read more

I set my appointment on Wednesday 7/22 and I chose the 8AM time slot. Since I set it up at least a week in advance, it was confirmed but for 7:50am. This was odd, but I figured it was because they would want me there and early which is usually always implied, but nonetheless, it was fine. I showed up at 7:40, parked my car and came in. On Yelp it showed they didn't even open up until 10am on Wednesday's...interesting. I tried coming in and hoped to be able to check in for my appointment. The doors of the building were open but the business doors themselves are were not because they must not open until 8AM. So I waited in front of the doors in the lobby. I figured if someone was inside they would see me and open the doors to check me in. Especially because at this point it was 7:50AM, my confirmed time. I figured this was better for than waiting in my car since the they would not be able to know if I was actually here otherwise. Lo and behold, People WERE in fact inside and DID see me. This is where Maddie at the front desk comes into play. She and whoever else behind the desk were chatting happily until Maddie saw me and said to her coworker, "There's a lady outside. Should I let her in?" To which her coworker answered, "no". Unbeknownst to them, I could hear them very well. She looks at the computers and pretends to act too busy to give me any service. Fine. I let it go. So I continue to stand there waiting while she went back out of plain sight. A few more minutes pass and Maddie comes back out where I can visibly see her again and she can clearly see me as well. This is when she makes the snarky remark along the lines of, "why don't you just wait in your car I KNOW YOU'RE HERE." THIS. This right here is rude, unprofessional, and UNCALLED for. Whether I could hear her or not this was poor customer service. This is what put me over the edge. I stood there not believing my ears. Next I called the business to see if I could call her to let me in and also let her know I could hear her nasty comments. No one answered. So I waited. A little after 8AM, she comes to finally let me in! I follow her to the front desk to check in and I let her know I have a 7:50AM appointment under my name. She thinks she's smart in correcting me by telling me it's in fact 8AM. I let her know if that thanks to the system in place and what was CONFIRMED. She tells me it's because they want the customer to be there a little earlier for their appointment. Well guess what? I was and you still had to be rude about it. I took this as a chance to also let her know that I didn't have any instructions on whether to wait in the car before my appointment or the check in procedure, hence why I stood outside in the lobby. The fact that I had to explain myself made me livid. To make it even worse was her response when I let her know that I heard everything she was saying from said lobby. One quick pause and she jumped RIGHT back to her fake customer service voice and goes, "Oh, sorry about that"! She then proceeds to go on with everything as if that was an actual genuine apology. She had the audacity to play it cool and overlook her mistakes by even asking me if I had plans for the day. After that we went over costs which DID not add up to be the same as what I was actually charged in the end. Anyway, I was taken back to do my testing and met a with a few different people including my doctor. Everyone else from here on out was nice and professional as expected, but my mood was completely ruined at this point. I contemplated whether I should let Dr. Staples know about the incident while I was with her but decided against it. Ricky was the technician for my eye exam and helped me choose glasses. He was also one of the last people I was with during my time there. He made me feel the most comfortable so by the time we finished, I ended up letting him know what happened. He was great. He apologized on Maddie's behalf for my first experience here and his apology actually felt genuine. He said all the right things and let me know he would let HR know. This was in the right direction on resolving this issue. I was checked out and charged on my CC. I get home and later in the day I receive a missed call from Foothill saying their system was down while I was checked out and I owe more money. I don't understand how a the system caught the first $64 to charge me but not the $60....? How does your system itemize your receipt and you don't catch it then while I'm there? And why is that my problem? So now on top of the HORRIBLE experience I had from before I stepped foot in the business, now I am left with the most sour taste in my mouth and more money owed to them. It's sad that I had a really bad first and last experience here when others have complained of similar situations already. in the past I've gotten three pairs of glasses from here...only one ended up usable. Ends up the optician didn't know the effects of too much magnification for an astigmatism creates distortion and that taller lens are needed for progressives...even after going back they were unable to figure out the issue. It was only after changing optometrists (and ironical ending up going to see one that used to be @Foothill) and explaining the issue with those glasses that I was able to get an explanation and resolution. Me and my family have been coming to this office for 8 years. But this place went downhill fast after Dr. Liu retired. 1. My son was given the wrong prescription of contacts. 2. They refuse to get him another appointment to recheck and redo the prescription. 3. They came up with a new prescription without an appointment... how would that even be possible??? 4. They sent us home with that "new" prescription to try out. 5. When we got home, we saw that this "new" prescription is the SAME as his current prescription. 6. I ordered glasses and after a month of waiting, they tell me the frame was discontinued. Couldn't that have been realized sooner? 7. They charged my husband an extra $90 for his sunglasses. 8. The staff doesn't seem to care about helping patients. 9. I have taken multiple trips to that office for the past 2 months and things have not been resolved. But the inconvenience factor can't even come close to the frustration and disappointment that my family have experienced with this office. Do not use this Group with the new management. So incredibly disappointed. Their prescription for me and my husband were incorrect. I had to get a new pair from another Group. My husband ordered two pairs, one sunglasses. They did both pairs as regular glasses. When asked to fix they said he never asked and need to pay for it. It gets better, when I purchased bifocal sunglasses from the front desk they rung it up incorrectly and called me to fix their mistake. They don't own any of their errors, the customer has to own them all. We have left the Group and will not return. It cost us a lot of money to go to this Group - they don't reply to comments and requests to fix problems. Zero start review!! Save yourself money and go elsewhere. read more

Awesome! Dr Staples is super detailed! She found out that I had vertigo and ordered lens' with a prism...what a difference that has made! Sugi, one of the technicians, is so sweet and attentive. She helped my father in a wheelchair in and out of all of the exam rooms with an amazing attitude. She really made him feel comfortable. She was super helpful to me as well. My frames were damaged and she informed me that they were covered under warranty and ordered new ones! She has a "can do " attitude and a lovely spirit. Everyone there is wonderful! read more

This time, however, the practice proactively communicated with me, apologized, explained the issue and gave me a revised date for the glasses coming in. Ricky who sold us our glasses in the first place is a great technician and spent a fair bit of time making sure that they were adjusted to my satisfaction. 100% better than last time. I'm a disappointed pediatrician! Used to be a great place, but since Total vision, now, terrible! There was traffic, I was running late, I called them, and the person who answered said, "ok, I'll let the front desk know." So, I continued to fight through traffic, rushed, and ran in with my child that was missing school, just for them to say, "sorry, you were the one in traffic? You'll have to reschedule." Could have told me so on the phone when I called! I could have turned my car around. I was 14 min late because of huge accident. Not to mention my mom was in the hospital still, had just had surgery. Life happens. Show some compassion. I am a pediatrician and I have been practicing for 20 years, I accommodate and take care of my patients. I somehow make it work. They might have to wait a bit but I always take care of the patients. I do it because I care and because I understand that sometimes in life, unforeseen circumstances arise. I know there's no way that they think the optometrists are busier than I am as a pediatrician. My son has an exam every 2 years! Again, if they want to have a strict no show policy, they need to communicate that when the patient makes an appointment. How rude to have me drive all the way there, just so they can tell me "no" in my face. By the way, I have referred many patients to their practice from my practice over the years so that won't happen anymore. I don't want them to treat my patients that way. Suggest finding a different place. There's plenty of great optometrists in our local area. It's not a difficult specialty to find alternatives to. read more

I have been here for over 16 years, but this place has gotten sketchy and dishonest. I picked up my glasses today and noticed immediately the frameless lens was not polished as I ordered. Showed to the lady, and she went to the back to consult with someone, returned to checked the computer, and proceed to tell me I will have to pay extra to have it sent back out as I didn't order the high-edge polish. Told her that can't be correct, as one side was polished, and I am certain I have paid for it. She looked again and said oh you are right. I told her I will be out of the country for about 1.5 months. She went to the back to consult with someone again, and returned to tell me, "FOR YOU", we are going to make an exception to our 30 days policy to fix it FOR YOU. It made it sound like the Foothill Optometric Group is doing ME a big favour for their mistake. I live far from this location. Coming to this location on 4 separate occasions taking a full hour each time to drive there is extremely inconvenient. They did not offer any compensation, instead, try to scam me to pay extra to fix their mistake. My entire family and friends will not be returning in the future to do our annual exams or business given this sketchy and dishonest experience. read more

I've been a patient at Foothill Optometric for over a decade, and when I went to make an appointment with my long-term doctor, I learned that Foothill was acquired/partnered with Total Vision and that almost every doctor left with the change. It was obvious that the staff was brand new, and service reflected that. I had to wait 30+ minutes for my appointment to start, the checkout process was slow, and in general the office didn't seem organized anymore. The new doctor I was assigned questioned my medical history, and another technician didn't pay attention to my chart before asking questions. I used to love this place, but now I think it's time to find a new practice. read more

I like this place! I was very skeptical when I changed insurance from Kaiser. I felt that I wouldn't get the same type of service because my former doctor was also a Cal grad. Dr. Yang was really cool though (I hope I got his name right lol). He was very informative and helped me get back to wearing colored contact lens. I used to use Acuvue 2 Colours but they go discontinued. I thought I didn't have any more options because my base curve was so low (8.3). Dr. Yang explained that some people can use higher base curves without experiencing any problems. He then recommended using Air Optix because I also said that I wanted lenses that were more breathable. Overall, I had a good experience but there were some hiccups, so I docked one star. After my exam, I tried on some colored contacts and picked which color I liked. Then I was told that I was set and was good to go. I left and then after talking to my boyfriend about the experience (he had an exam a week before), I realized that I didn't complete my exam. There was a color and field of vision test. I was scheduled for a follow up appointment so I called and let them know that I didn't complete my tests. They told me to come in a little early for my appointment and they'll finish it up. I came back for my appointment 10 minutes early and they finished up the tests before my appointment time. Waited for the doc 15 mins and then finished up the follow up exam. Dr said my contacts should be ready. When I went to the counter, the receptionist said I had to wait 3-5 days for my contacts to come in. I thought I already picked them out? I was starving so I just said ok and left. Doctors are great and staff is friendly, but not a perfect experience. read more

Ughhh, we all know looking for new eyeglass frames with so many places to choose from can be overwhelming and time comsuming. I went to quite a few places to get inspo and see what styles work for me. I'll be honest, I replace my frames every year. I like having a traditional pair but am also drawn to trendier pairs and with trendier pairs you replace them more often. I've probably been to every optical store in the area lol. I have two favorite locations and this is now one of the two. I was pleasantly surprised to see they carried all of the designer brands and styles I looked at in one place! My intention was to just browse but I ended up placing an order. It was a Friday early afternoon when I went in and luckily there was no wait. If you have your frames picked out, insurance info ready to go and what kind of lenses you want then you'll be in and out in no time. The whole process took me 45 minutes. I hate waiting, can you tell? Lol ;) It does take a while for frames to be ready, up to 3 weeks but they'll notify you via txt, call or email. Super convenient. The whole staff was really friendly, from the person who checked me in, to the person who placed my order, to the cashier. Now, I knew what I wanted when I went in, sometimes the person placing your order can be helpful and other times you just won't vibe. I didn't vibe with many optical techs (the ones who spend the entire time telling you their whole life history, the ones that just don't get your style, to the ones that say everything looks good on you) See, I told you I've been to every optical store in the area... This optometry office is an efficient and nicely kept office. It is conveniently located near the 680 and 580 interchange, and for the most part I have not had to wait long for my appointments. They have also seen my husband at the last minute for contact issues without a fuss. I specifically see Dr. Yang and will recommend him to anyone. About 3 weeks ago we ordered glasses for my father worth of $450, the person that was putting the order in told us that our glasses/frames purchase comes with 2 years warranty. Today when we picked up the glasses we have been told that is not the case and that THEY have recently found out that their manufacturer doesn't offer 2 years warranty. I spoke to the unprofessional clinic manager named Andrew, who with a rude tone told me that there is nothing that he can do, i said its not our fault that your employee gave us wrong information he rudely said to me that its my problem not theirs. I am so frustrated been waiting for my and my sons sunglasses for 2 months now. They don't tell ETA or never picks up phone or call back so leaving the voicemail is useless. My family isn't going back there now. Hope this review will help people. read more

The doctors are good and the place used to be good in the past, however the front staff is extremely bureaucratic. We had to wait almost 3 months to get the kids glasses after seeing the doctor. First they ordered a wrong frame and even after correcting the glasses are not satisfactory. The front desk staff is rude and unaccommodating due to which we had to wait and make multiple trips. read more

They couldn't make our sons glasses correctly. We were told that if they weren't right we could return them within 30 days. We had them remade a second time and they still weren't right so we asked for a refund. They told us we would have to pay for the lab because their lab couldn't make them and they had to send them out to another lab. They ended up deducting $130 off of what we paid, and now we have to wait for them to send a check out to us, meanwhile our son is still having to use his old glasses that work better than the new ones they tried to make twice. Not very good service or standing behind your products here. We went here because we heard the eye exams were outstanding, but never again. read more

I've been a patient since 2007. This year I found out Dr Staples had moved. So the good news is my new doc is great. I really like Dr Long. The bad news is that all the things they say about the front desk seem to be true. With my son I was 10 minutes late and was forced to reschedule while they were late today. However today I worked with the manager and he was good and helped me get the best deal for my insurance. Also Lindsay my eyeglass consultant was awesome and helpful. So time will tell.
