I do wish to find a local fish shop with beautiful aquascapes & fish selections throughout the store, but majority of shops are simple & low maintenance. Easier for business. For SGV area though, this shop is the best--offers large, rare, and popular kept fish breeds. Few tanks offer very expensive fish probably best for experienced & rich hobbyist. Tropical & saltwater fish tanks available--majority are tropical, and an aisle of saltwater fish. Minimal shrimp selections. Hardscapes such as rocks & wood branches are available. Used & brand new tanks, hoses, filter supplies, water treatments, etc. Fish & plant stock varies depending which day you visit, meaning they sell out. Best to phone call if you're searching for a particular fish & it could save you a trip. I own 3 tanks and my most recent is a juvenile discus tank. It has been maybe 5 months now & fish seem to be healthy & thriving. Colors remain vibrant. Feeding less & frequent water changes help I assume. I visit quite often & it's also fun to see what's new that day. Some days better than others. Staff have all been helpful if needed, especially a young talkative male who helped me during my last couple of visits--seemed passionate about the hobby. Overall, it never bother me that they seem too chill about fishkeeping. I ask a couple of questions at times but I usually just do my own thing anyway. So if you are new to the fishkeeping hobby, don't expect to be spoon fed information here--best to just do your own research. There aren't too many aquarium/ fish stores in the area, so this a great place to stop by if you're looking to add to your home aquarium. The store is located in a small corner plaza and is dimly lit, but they have a great selection of fish from kois to guppies and shrimp. I was looking for fresh water cray fish and called ahead and they had a few left. Beware Fish Lice! went to this store yesterday and spent around $240 on fish for my fish tank I had just set up. I was so excited for my new fish and soon after putting them into the tank I noticed some weird looking creators on them. From what ive looked up and read about its fish lice, which is super horrible and almost impossible to get rid of. Not only to they just eat the fish alive until there dead they will destroy anything in the tank. I went back to the store today to let them know about how the fish I had just purchased had fish lice and they did not care one bit. They just referred me to a product that would kill it, which was expensive, turns out the dude lied about the product because it doesnt even treat fish lice in the first place. My whole tank is fucked and I just ended up losing money from them. I wont ever go back to this place as they dont care about the quality of the fish they sell, theyre just trynna get cash. read more

It's so interesting to see how quickly people change when something goes wrong. I went to this store initially looking to start my aquascaping hobby. The staff at first was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable around how I can build my starter tank. They had told me to wait a week to come back to add in the cleaning crew, so I was planning on returning the following week. And then it all went downhill. After I stayed at the store for more than 2 hours, I purchased around $300 worth of supplies (and was also told that the tank I originally bought didn't have a lid, so I could only purchase the larger, more expensive one). I excitedly went home to build my tank, only to discover that a couple of items I purchased was defected. I called the store to ask how I can fix it, but they were impatient and reluctant to give me a refund. Once I went back in to pick up some shrimp and snails, the owners was rude because I was returning the defected products. He showed me that the filter that I thought was broken required a manual start with a long tooth pick, but why would I want to keep a product that requires a manual start when literally every other filter on the market is plug and play? Other backhanded comments were also said to my face the second time around, and the overall tone was rude and impatient. I wanted a go-to aquatic store for my hobby, but rude staff is a big turnoff. Sure, I could have done more research myself and just gone into the store to buy exactly what I needed but the owners should not be upset when dealing with returns from difficult to use products. read more

What a great pet store I have a 180g aquarium at home and he has a large variety of discus all very healthy and great color. The heckle ones were the ones i was most impressed it's hard to find but he has several great quality and hardy. Even took time to discuss with me about Arawana and flowerhorns. I can't really decide on what to get next but will definitely go back to buy when I make my decision. The employee who helped us out was really really patient with us. There's quite a variety of fish. The prices of tetras and other generic fishes are slightly higher than other fish stores in the area, but their koi prices are pretty good. The small 3"-4" koi are around $15, butterfly around $18, and medium 6"-7" koi around $40. They have arowanas, peacock bass, red tail catfish, so really good variety. They also have a good variety of salt water fish. Parking in the plaza's parking lot is easy. read more

I came here to buy my 10 year old nephew a fish for his birthday. The exterior and interior is nothing to rave about but the inside!! There is an abundance of different fish and my owner is knowledgeable (and quite funny). I went to the owner immediately and said I want a fish that is low maintenance as I'm giving it to a child, he immediately pointed me towards the bettas. I am no stranger to bettas as I've owned two previously. I asked him if there was anything sturdier as I've raised bettas and they only lived 3 years. He told me that 3 years was actually great for bettas - this really redeemed my self esteem as I thought I had failed my fish friends!! I bought a betta and some fish food there. He also showed me some nice glass tanks with lights and bubbles but I had already bought one on amazon (that was much cheaper, but acrylic, so if you're in the market for glass, check out what they have!). Just popped in today to check out the store. It's tight inside with many rows of tanks to check out. They try their best to label the prices of each fish. But I came in today for Pleco's They have many species with no prices so I had to ask. How much is the Blue Phantom? Errr that one is $90 they cost more than the Green Phantom which was $70. I saw a King Gypsy in the other tanks that one was also $70 To me these prices were too high, maybe next time when I'm feeling like Richie Rich I'll pick some up. read more

****EDIT**** 1-Year Later Okay Ken, I'm updating my review! haha. So I've been going back consistently to get fresh R.O. water and salt water from their source in San Diego. Apparently a really good salt water mix. All the tanks are up and running and they have much more fish and a really great frag tank for all you coral addicts. Decently priced at about 4 frags for $100 for their standard corals. I wish there would be more diversity in the corals and price range from $10-$50+ corals like larger saltwater based stores though. They have 3 very large, VERY beautiful salt water tanks with the mother colony corals in which they fragment their smaller corals from. I bumped their rating from a 2 to a 4 because of all the effort they've put into a great store. It's not quite a 5 star store yet because they still lack the great prices and large diversity of coral and fish like some of the stores down south in the OC, but they are definitely one of the top stores east of downtown! Great service! Keep it up. **** They've actually moved to a new address about a month ago and are currently still setting up the new shop at: 137 East Valley Blvd. Alhambra, CA 91801 I probably should give this a 3 star, but because they were in transition and setting up phase, everything is still kind of a mess at the shop. Their freshwater selection seemed to be pretty decent also, with about a row and a half of different cichlids, gold fish, and koi. The small amount of salt water fish that they had didn't seem to happy or healthy but I hope that turns around in the future. Their selection of snails, anemonies, and crabs aren't that great either. I'm looking forward to seeing what their coral frag tank will turn out to be like, but until then it seems to be your average LFS. Came here on a whim with the children, because they wanted to see what was inside. We were pleased to see lots of freshwater and saltwater fish, with artificial and real plants available for home aquariums. We got some feeder fish and the staff was very attentive and helpful. I originally only went to this place because the Rosemead Aquarium was closed today by 2. Eventually I decided I might as well give this store a try and I was not disappointed. The prices range from good deals to quite high. For instance, even the smallest of fishes go for 3 bucks, while a male Betta Fish can go up to $25. Rosemead Aquarium had charged $10 for the males. Nonetheless, the workers, Victor, in particular, was helpful with all my requests and knew his shit. If you're looking to start a new fish tank or add to your old ones, this spot will not let you down. read more

The staff is very helpful and friendly they give you free aquarium magazines to take home. The have a huge selection of fish and for some types, the age of the fish. They have young discus that are more affordable, older discus and wild caught as well. The have a nice selection of corals and fresh water plants as decent prices too. I came in a while back for ghost shrimp but it was shortly after the holidays so they didn't have any. However I still wasnt disappointed in my trip there because they had so many cool fish and stuff to look at. Unfortunately, I can't get any of the cool looking anemones or starfish because my tank is a freshwater tank. When I walked in today, I asked for freshwater shrimp and the guy gave me a few different options. The place I usually go to only has ghost shrimp but this guy recommended these tiny little cherry shrimp. They were so cute and he said they are very easy to take care of. My last shrimp died because the filter was not working. Anyway, I got 3 for 10 dollars and then browsed around a bit. Everyone here is very welcoming and nice. Even though I'm kind of a noob and dont know much about fish. He answered all my questions too. I'll definitely come back once my cherry shrimp die and I 'm looking for more. Don't shop here Bought 2 black goldfish from them and they both are sick they were fine when we got them but after a week or 2 weeks they got white spots on them and kill one of our expensive goldfish. They put sick fish in there fish tank when they restock them they don't separate them and make sure there healthy or not they don't care. we won't be shopping here anymore we found a better place to get fancy goldfish a little pricey because they are top quality goldfish.
