although the mishaps of my first time coming here (read my previous review), i came back twice more this week. about half way through the week, i was craving something sweet, so i stopped by Tost. now, i know Tost is not really a bakery or a place probably known for their sweets, but getting off the bus and living right off Kissena, there's not much choices and I pass by Tost everyday. that day, i came in and got a Red Velvet Cupcake. it wasn't great, but not bad either... the girl working that night was pretty nice and answered my questions since i didn't want to be stuck with some nasty dessert. (after reading Chelsea D.'s review, I was a little hesitant on their desserts). so this experience was fine. today, i went back because i was feeling like soup and sandwich for lunch, and Tost cafe is the only place that's really close that I know that serves it. also, Tost does have a typical menu of places I used to love eating at back at home frequently - salads, soups, sandwiches. however, today's experience was pretty bad again. the same girl from my first visit was working at the cashier today. i don't know if she treats all the customers like this, but she had a huge attitude problem towards me. i walked in, and looked at the menu for a bit, and she seemed irritated and as if i was wasting her time trying to figure out what i wanted. then, i walked up to the cashier, and this is pretty much how my ordering process went: me: "what's your soup of the day today?" her: "uh, it's right over there in the middle, can't you see?" me: "oh i didn't see, sorry" her: "well, like it says over there, it's spinach and chicken noodle" me: "ok, ill get the chicken noodle" "can i also get the vegetarian burger" her: "so, you want the vegetarian burger?" me: "yes" her: "what do you want on it?" me: "everything" her: "so, it comes with cheese, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo, and ketchup. are you SURE you want everything on it." me: "YES" her: "and you wanted the spinach soup" me: "no, chicken noodle" bottom line is, first of all.. pay attention when people are ordering. second of all, if i said i want everything, why are you questioning me as if im a dumbass. throughout the entire time i was ordering, she said everything in the most pushy and attitude-y tone. i walked away pretty pissed off... if you're going to work in a job that deals face to face with people, PLEASE learn how to interact with other human beings. it's not good to have your customers be almost infuriated and want to yell at you. lastly, their vegetarian burger was not necessarily bad, but it was very... interesting. the patty wasn't even a patty, it was just a vegetable mush... in the consistency of mashed potatoes. didn't necessarily taste bad, just that, it wasn't really a burger. i'm definitely not coming back here. i wanted to like this place cause there's good reviews, and i like the types of options they have... but two bad experiences already, i'm over it. and right after i walked away, the girl at the cashier turned to her male coworkers, being all sweet and flirty and giggly.. yet when she was taking my order, she was a total b*tch, so i just don't know what her deal is. and the guys who make the food, have no clue what goes with each order. they had to keep asking the cashier girl what to put in the burger and what to go with the soup (this exact same thing happened when i came here the first time). manager, please train your employes. read more

No longer known as Tozt Cafe. It is known as Q cafe now and it's not as good as it used to be. The women who work behind the counter are as rude as can be. Like if they mess up your order somehow it's your fault they screwed up and they don't know how to talk to customers. The delivery time is slow. I ordered food and they said it would take 45 mins to get there. It took almost 2 hours for them to deliver the food. All the cooks that made this place are gone as well as the delivery guys. I just ordered their mixed salads with all the fixings. It was very fresh and crisp! I like the option of adding tuna to my salad instead of just chicken. Starting off with picking your choice of romaine or mix greens plastic container on the shelf, hand it to one of the servers behind the counter, then it's no hold barred add whatever you want feast of a health bowl. From small condiments like walnuts, almonds, raisins, cranberries, to lean meats like grilled or breaded chicken, turkey, ham, pepperoni, along with chopped corn, celery, carrots, eggs (or egg whites), avocado, the list goes on and on. I haven't even gotten to your pick of dressings yet. The only thing keeping the place from earning 5 stars is all that tossing will cost around $9-$11 a pop depending on what you've selected. But for the freshness and generous portions, I'll fork over the dough. The place does have other sandwich options and hot foods, but I always stick with the grass. read more

This place was a godsend when you're stranded at Queens college for hours and there is few decent eating establishments around, especially on campus. the salads are fresh and the smoothies are good. The establishment is clean and the associates are friendly enough. I'm not a big fan of their sandwiches honestly but I primarily come here for salads anyway. They have a pretty large assortment of salad dressing to choose from and a lot of different veggies and toppings. You can create your own or choose from a pre-made menu of salads. read more

New Owner raised the already high prices to a ridiculously higher prices. I got a BLT Tozt today and I am sure the bacon was fresh, just not sure what day last week that it was fresh. It was so bad I could not eat it. Never, did I get anything that was not fresh prior to the new owners. As well there is a fee attached to each item if you want it delivered. Tost has been a godsend in this residential area where there's absolutely nothing to eat aside from delis, a mediocre pizzeria, Chinese takeout restaurant, understocked bakery, and an overpriced Dunkin Donuts. The burritos are humongous. They also custom make pastas, salads, and sandwiches. On my most recent visit I built my own pasta, selecting linguine with a spicy arrabiatta sauce, meatballs, mushrooms, and melted mozzarella cheese. It came out piping hot with some yummy garlic flatbread on the side. I had enough to bring leftovers to work, and I think it tasted even better the next day. I just happened to notice this Gem, right down the street from Queens College, and I am so glad that I did. Not only is this down the street from my house, but this is my new go-to spot for lunch. The place itself it very clean, and it looks like all the college kids go there for lunch, cuz its close and good. Everything is priced pretty well and everything is very FRESH. The employees are very helpful and very friendly. So Far I have tried 2 entrees. One was an Italian panini, which came on really great bread, provolone, pepperoni, salami, ham, provolone, lettuce, peppers w/oil & vinegar, it was superb. I also had a chicken quesedilla with cheese and bacon which was amazing. They have a HUGE selection, and even have breakfast sandwiches. Aside from what they have on the menu which can be viewed on their website, they also have a variety of baked goods, and things like Teriyaki Steak, Fish, different kinds of Chicken...Check this place out if your in the area for a great lunch. I tried ordering 3 eggs with bacon and sausage and they charged me for the full platter + extra egg + bacon + sausage. I said i wasnt getting the platter but they insisted this is how they charge people. When i explained that if i ordered 2 eggs on a roll then ordered a side of 1 egg bacon and sausage its would be 3 dollars cheaper but they said this is just how they do things around here. First of all, this place is called Q Cafe, which not being local to this 'hood and trying to locate the mythical "Panini Tozt Cafe" on Kissena before scurrying over to a show at Kupferberg caused a real pain in the sphincter right from the starting line. As for the setup of this place, think typical pre-made to assemble college town delicatessen which can be found near every school in the Northeast. Maybe because I work in Manhattan and I'm no longer a student, I don't find the prices here to be higher than any other deli in the boro. I do, however, think it's fair to say that the people who work here are totally out of touch or simply don't care. One guy mopped and then didn't dry the floor, or even put out a wet floor board, so I did some fun icescapades moves to get to the seating area and restroom. The buffalo chicken wrap was alright, but they went extremely heavy on the dressing, causing it to detonate fluid with every bite, so there was a lot of arching going on over my tray. St. John's definitely has Queens College beat for bites around the campus, which is a shame because with all the activity that goes on in this area, it appears the Dunkin' Donuts seems to be the epitome of gastronomic excellence. read more

Tozt (Toast?) is relatively new-a year or so? but it definitely beats the other deli/cafe down the street. It is bright and well lit. Whenever I pass or go in, I am tempted by all the scrumptious items in the window. The muffins look really plump and moist (never tried one though). They have a variety of drinks, candy, snacks (healthy and unhealthy-chips/fruit cups). There is a huge salad bar. I've never tried any of their warm food but the salad bar is pretty intense with the options. For around 8 bucks you can get 8 items in your salad w/ a dressing all tossed for you! You have three options of greens-spinach, mixed, and romanine ( i think?) but there isn't much quantity in the amount of the greens. I like more greens in my salad.
