Wife and I were in the area tonight and had called ahead to be put on the list and were quite confused as the young girl said due to how busy they were (Memorial Day weekend) we could be not be on the list until 7:00?? It was unclear what they meant but she seemed unwilling to put us on the list when we called at about 5:00. So, we decided to take our chances and stopped by about 6:15 and immediately got seated.....probably helped it was just the 2 of us as they were very busy. Our server, Zoe was very good, well versed on the menu and was attentive but not overly so....excellent at her job. The highlight however (for me) was watching the entire hard working staff work together. It was like a finely orchestrated ballet. Mostly young people who worked extremely hard and never seemed to miss a beat! The owner or manager stopped by to check on us (seems rare these days) and was very friendly. We visited there last Wednesday after hearing about this place for years and were fully expecting a good meal. For starters we were given the worst table in the place, right next to the kitchen prep area. We ordered some bread and got rye bread with some kinds or jelly which seemed strange for a supposed Italian restaurant. I ordered scallopini and the tiny portion arrived cold so they reheated it and delivered it back. Not a lot of flavor in it. At least the drinks were okay. I feel that with all the good things I had heard about this place, maybe I should give them another chance but it won't be anytime soon. read more

The dining room is kinda full/plain, but the entry way, bar and garden area have a quaint and rustic look and feel to them that are awesome but kinda hard to describe. My bf and I came here when we were driving across the US on a roadtrip. We were staying in town for the night and saw this family restaurant had great reviews so we stopped by and gave it a try. We sat at the bar and had a great time talking to the bartender. We shared the squash blossoms to start and then my bf ordered the steak as his entree and I ordered the Malfatti. I got the minestrone soup as my side and he got the Caesar salad. Overall, everything was enjoyable. The food was very filling so luckily we had leftovers the next day as we continued onward. What a lovely restaurant. my husband's company does a holiday party every year at this particular restaurant and we were invited for the first time from Florida. The Christmas decor was on point and the staff were friendly. I had the coconut shrimp, the pizza and it looked like a fried ravioli, which was delicious. their soup & salad was wonderful, and my salmon was really good. My husband had the steak & he really enjoyed it. All I know was this a great place to have a company Christmas party and we really enjoyed our time together with the Michigan staff. read more

Clean and cozy environment. No wait on Friday night for four of us. High quality food. Breads were fresh. Clam chowder was creamy and rich. Asparagus were tasty. My 16 year old boy who hates vegetables said they were pretty good. Mash potato has good butter taste. Steak and pork chop were perfect. The wagyu has wine taste, so it's not our favorite, but I believe some people would enjoy it. Overall, very lucky to find this place with cute little outdoor dinning garden at the front. The place is dimly lit with fireplaces going. The artwork complements the cozy atmosphere with light reflecting off the subjects' faces. Our meals were top notch. Ravioli reminded me of fried wontons. Cheese filled with meat sauce for dipping. The scallops were had delightful smoked overtones and were very tender. They made me want to chew 30 times before swallowing. The coconut shrimp had a crunchy coating. More yummyness! I had the yellow snapper special. Located right off Red Arrow Hwy in a residential subdivision by the lake. I wouldn't call it fine dining. It's more family oriented these days. The prices are reasonable & the portions are large. All entrees come with a salad or soup. You rarely see that anymore! We ordered: bbq ribs ( yes in an Italian restaurant ) served with roasted squash, potatoes & rainbow carrots. They were pretty good but not quite falling off the bone. Lasagna. Excellent. Seafood linguine served with spicy marinara, shrimp, lobster & scallops. The pasta was a little over cooked. Don't know what restaurant Tony P went to but it sure wasn't Tosi's EVERYTHING inclusive of all the dining areas, porch, garden, furniture and restrooms were renovated within the last 15 -20 yrs yrs or so. There is not a more beautiful restaurant in SW MI to be sure. Yes they retained (wisely ) some original character in the lounge area but the rest has been fully updated. The owners work their tails off to provide the best experience as possible for all guests. Is it always perfect ? Nope but all and all they do very well to provide the best dining experience for all their guests continuing the 85 yr tradition of excellence. I was told that Tosi's is legendary. It absolutely lives up to that hype! The restaurant has free valet- reminds me of the old school Italian spots in Chicago. First, they bring a warmed basket of different breads and focaccia with freshly grated Parmesan for each individual plate(to add to your olive oil). Salads are fresh and the house dressing is their take on Italian (and ohhh so good!) Their entrees are out of this world! 2 of us at the table ordered their Seafood Arribiata but both of us got different sauces- one garlic and olive oil and the other ordered the spicy arribiata. Both of the seafood in our dishes were cooked to perfection (scallops, shrimp, lobster). If you have room, dessert and a coffee are lovely. It's a nice place and the food is good. The hostess - not so much. I arrived before my friend, so asked for a booth in the dining room. They only have tables and chairs in the dining room. Booths are in the bar. When I asked about a booth, she said, "Did you make a reservation?!" - it sounded like an accusation, like no, she didn't have a booth, but somehow it was my fault. The restaurant (at dinner hour during the week) was empty - both the bar and dining room. Off season at a lakeshore area restaurant on a week night, nothing is ever full to the point that a reservation is needed. She seated me at a table and just seemed to be negative and full of attitude (and she was old enough to know better). When my friend arrived, I told her about my experience with the hostess. At Tosi's Restaurant -- Our last night In Michigan and we had an amazing dinner at Tosi's Restaurant. We were seated in the garden next to the fountain and pond. The menu was amazing with unbelievable northern Italy fare. The owner spent time with us, telling his story, and us, ours. Tricia had her Key-lime pie martini and I had a Moscato. Fried zucchini blossoms as my appetizer, calamari for Tricia. Entree for me was eggplant manicotti and Tricia had Wally, fresh from Lake Michigan. It was a delightful night and a delicious meal. I was trying to rank this restaurant with a place I have been before and the best I could do was the Villa Cesare in Hillsdale NJ, when it was at its peak with John Carlos at the helm. Tosi's is wonderful, but I am writing this review after sitting at the bar while I was in town for the weekend on Friday and Saturday evening. The place was crowded and work was non-stop for the bartender Connar. He was absolutely fantastic in every way. Appeased anyone who had to wait a few minutes, made perfect cocktails, had recommendations. I attended a rehearsal dinner here and the place is pretty impressive from the outside. We started in the outdoor, turf courtyard, which was gorgeous. We only had half of the courtyard so there were still people sitting around having dinner, which was a little awkward. We then moved to a private room for dinner from a condensed menu. I'm not sure if our options were from their actual menu but with smaller portions or not. I had the steak which came with potatoes and broccoli. The steak was overcooked in my opinion, but being in a large group, we didn't have a choice. The potatoes were pretty tasty and the broccoli wasn't bad. Overall, enjoying a meal outside would be awesome. I think our food quality was slightly below par, just because we were in a large private event. read more

Tosi's has been around for a long time. We used to eat here when I was a kid. So, when I was on a girls trip to Michigan, it was a much needed stop. Still delicious as ever and although the bar area looked a bit outdated and casual, the rest of the restaurant was nice. The garden area was beautiful and when the weather is warm it would be perfect for dinner. I started with a cup of minestrone soup that was good but nothing out of the ordinary. Next was the caesar salad which had the perfect balance of cheesy creamy dressing on it. My entree was the Airline Chicken that was good but I wished it had a tangier sauce. I guess I expected the orange mustard sauce to have more zip (and more of it). The bread basket by the way was incredible so make sure you try everything in it. It won't disappoint. This is my partner's favorite restaurant in the area. He hadn't been in a few months, and we decided to swing by since I had never been. We live in Indiana so it was about a 30 minute drive for us. Upon arriving, it was pretty busy (expected for a Saturday night). We checked in and were told it would be about a 30 minute wait, so we decided to stay. They give you a beeper to notify you when your table is ready, so we stood outside in the entryway as we waited. We looked over the menu in anticipation, and were excited to eat here. After about 30 minutes, we decided to wait inside as some space had opened up. My partner inquired for a time update and we were told another 15-20 minutes. After about 20 minutes or so, a couple who had arrived after us (we saw them parking as we walked up to the entrance) was seated. We thought it was odd but continued to wait. After an hour and 15 minutes, we were finally called and taken to our seats. We were brought outside, which was honestly beautiful. They have a stunning garden, with a water fountain and lots of plants. It was a gorgeous night outside as well. However, when we reached our table, the check from the last party was still on the table and the table was a little dirty. We waited for our server, who came by and grabbed the old check out of the way and brought us waters. Since we had had some time to look over the menu, we were ready to order. For drinks I ordered the Italian soda and my partner a diet coke. As a starter I had one of their specials, the Peach and Burrata salad and my partner got the meatballs. For entrees, I ordered the steak frites (Patatine Fritters) and my partner ordered the Amatriciana with chicken. The server, who was very friendly and kind, took our order and said she would be back with some bread. We received our drinks and the meatballs first. The Italian soda was interesting and tasty, I did enjoy it. The meatballs were good too, nothing out of the ordinary but a good starter. My burrata salad came after, and my partner's house salad. The burrata salad was okay- it had a nice dressing over it, light, but the serving of burrata was a small spread on top of the salad and four peach slices, topped with pecans. Our server came by to pick up our salad plates, and right before our entrees she brought us the bread. The bread was also okay, it was soft and had good flavor. Our entrees came out shortly after. Prior to arriving, my partner had raved about the Amatriciana as it is his favorite dish. He had told me the servings were always impressive and he had taken significant portions home in the past because the bowl was so large. As they set the dish in front of him, I could see something was different. He said the portion had significantly decreased in size, as it used to be served in a deep bowl and now it was a smaller dish. Taste-wise, he wasn't blown away. He was disappointed and surprised as it had always been his go-to order. My steak dish was unfortunately also disappointing. The steak was overcooked and brown in the center, and slightly chewy. The portion size was also extremely small, sort of a sliver of steak. The sauce on top was nice- but it felt like it was all that gave the steak flavor and carried the dish. The fries were warm and crispy, and I did enjoy them (probably the best part of the dish). There were some veggies but I did not really try them so I can't attest to their flavor. I didn't finish my steak, it just wasn't a cooked correctly and really lacked flavor. We were both really letdown at this point, but decided to give dessert a chance. He got the lemon cheesecake and I got the special that night- Blueberry Bread Pudding. I will say the bread pudding was the best part of the meal- it was nice and soft, flavorful but not too sweet. The lemon cheesecake on the other hand was a bit lackluster- the description states that it comes with an array of fresh fruit- but it was topped with 3 blueberries. Overall, our meal came about to about 115$ (without tip). I have no complaints about our server- she was attentive, sweet and helpful. But the food really let us down, especially for the cost of the meal. I don't know if we will be returning, and I know my partner was bummed since it used to be his favorite restaurant. I don't know if anyone else has had the same experience, so maybe it was just an off night for them. read more

Valet parking is standard. Coat check inside & excellently maintained. Hostesses are friendly & will automatically check on your behalf to see how much longer your wait may be at any given time. Very friendly. Bar staff is attentive even tho heavily populated with hungry folks. From babies to little ones to ppl on first dates...all went well. We found this establishment well worth the six hour drive it took to see Lake Michigan. We came up for a walleye dinner thinking this place would have it available. We let the hostess know, and as she was about to seat us, she thought we had 6 people, I informed her we had 5 people, she looked at me like she had just seen a ghost or like I had brought an additional 10 people with me. Thought that was strange. We get seated around 5:57 in the Florentine room. Get our menus, waters, drinks, and appetizer within 15 min, not a big deal. We ordered entrees around 6:30. Salads and soups took way too long to be served, around 7 pm is when we finally got them. We had to stop and ask our waitress when our food would be ready because at that point, it had been an hour! 7:30 pm and still no food. Our waitress checked on us once during that time, never apologized for how late we got our food. All she said was "it should be out pretty shortly" yet we still had to wait an additional 30 minutes. She never apologized once during the entire time. She avoided our table most of the night. I know how busy the restaurant is especially on weekends. However, this isn't the first busy weekend you all have had. Waiting an hour for our food to be served to us? That is absurd. Insane. The waitress wasn't apologetic, and the other waitress who served to table to the left of us was rude as can be to other customers and talking poorly about other workers. An American Classic. Tosi's transports you back to a Tuscan village atmosphere with a beautiful ambience inside and out. Dark wood inside with multiple rooms that make you feel you are in a smaller inviting cafe. Art throughout with local artists and some not-so local. Yes, it feels a bit dated, and perhaps they could use new carpet, but this place has history and feels authentic. They constantly are doing special events, so check their calendar as you are likely to find some live entertainment. The wait list is pretty extreme (30-45 min on average) and they have limited hours. They do provide pagers now to alert when the table is ready, so you can walk outside and take a look at their herb garden maybe. Recommend to show up early, or be prepared for wait. Gives opportunity to grab a cocktail at the bar. Service is very good though with multiple wait staff and our glasses of water never went empty. Food is spot on and I've never had a bad dish from them. Portion sizes are large and flavorful. Some sauces are a little heavy, but is true to Tuscan food. Whether it is a special lamb dish, fresh local fish, or a giant meatball, everything is cooked to perfection. Extensive wine list, cocktails, and local Michigan brews.
