Not like the original Toshi's back in the 70's. The pork was a bit tough, chicken was good though. Walked in and the floor was sticky everywhere .... Maybe a result of the wrong cleaning solution or lack of a good wet mop?? Did not care for the hot veggie mix that came with the meal, but the slightly sweet salad was delicious. The meat came in large chunks on skewers. I prefer the old style of chopped meat layer out over the rice . But flavor was still very good. Food was very tasty. Ordered two large chicken teriyaki and one regular spicy chicken with gyoza. Called it in for pick up. Had an easy time with ordering and no problems at all. Nicely bagged with napkins and forks. Out the door for $65 and some change. There was plenty of seating inside and parking right in front. read more

This is perhaps THE most ignorant restauranteur that I've ever encountered!!! Not an exaggeration!! I do business on both sides and all around this restaurant on a regular basis. Over the last few weeks I've tried to stop in to tell them that Yelp thinks they are closed!! Every time I'm there during lunch or early dinner hours when I'm near, there has been no one in the store. The first time no one came out of the kitchen and after a few minutes I just left. The second time thought I'd call and tell them and I got a very gruff older man that said he has been there 30 years and that he doesn't use YELP!!?? Funny . Like it's his choice if people use Yelp to find his restaurant etc. and just says he couldn't care about it. I suggested he contact them and make it clear that they are open still and he just couldn't care less.? Maybe he prefers an empty dining room. The third time just last week I was going down to the UPS store next door and my wife was craving teriyaki working from home and insisted I get some while I was there. Again I walked in to place the order and waited...... for someone to come out of the back. This time a nice young Asian lady came out and when I was going to give her my order I asked her if they knew that Yelp thinks they are closed?? She then got weird and started to tell me that Yelp had no control over them and they don't use it! I just figured that my wife could wait and I left to go to Ichiban Teriyaki nearby. My wife won't eat there because it's a dirty dive which is why I tried to get avg at best teriyaki from Toshis for her. She loved the pork from Ichiban and it is much better than the dried out pork on a stick crap at Toshis. With the ignorance, low business traffic, and sub par teriyaki I'll just keep relying on Ichiban or the awesome food and service from Toshis Kirkland! Love this place. Portions are huge so it's great to have leftovers for lunch. Service is polite and respectful.

These are some of the nastiest people I've ever come across. Myself and two friends went in for lunch and the place was empty. After seeing how they act, I'm not surprised. We were not greeted when we came in. The woman literally didn't say a word. She did t even ask us what we wanted to order. She just stood there. Once we ordered and sat down, she brought out salad and again, never said anything. She brought out one entree first and then the other two ten minutes later. My friend tried to wait until we got ours but she ended up just going ahead and eating. Nothing was said by the server, not even an explanation when we asked. She just walked in the back. I thought maybe she just didn't want us there because of racial issues, but two guys of a different race came in and were treated the exact same way. So, maybe they just don't like customers? Anyway, they are within walking distance of my house and I love teriyaki but I will never go there again. Besides all that, I got beef fried rice that had not a bit of salt in it. Good portion size, and I like the coleslaw with rice - directly mixing the coleslaw in with the rice is the way to go! The chicken was tender and flavorful, but I don't know if I could really tell the difference between seattle vs standard style. I would return here! read more

Quite surprised this place has lower rating! If you are looking for ambiance this is not your place! If you are looking for good amazing food, give it a try :) Honestly I have not had that great experience with teriyaki places nearby. My husband is quite fond of teriyaki and suggested we give this a try after 5years of staying in Kenmore and it was amazing We have got spicy chicken teriyaki with fried rice as substitute- it was hands down one of the best we have had so far! The rice is so so good! You can almost get the smoky flavor from it. The chicken was tender and juicy and perfect spicy for my 5year old too. FYI - my 5 yr old is quite fuzzy when it comes to carrots and peas in rice, but she too loved it! read more

The chicken teriyaki / katsu combo special is my go-to dish. They'll spice up the chicken teri no problem. The portions are good, both chicken dishes cooked well and katsu nice and crispy/crunchy. The salad was a bit small but is that why you're here? There were a few folks ahead of me and I still got my dish quickly. Service is minimal which I appreciate and the tables were clean. Toshi's was THE original Seattle teriyaki restaurant back in the late 1970s, with the first one in Lower Queen Anne. The guy who started it would open a couple of new locations then sell them. Eventually, he got smart and started franchising instead. From there came the thousands of teriyaki places we have today. Not sure if this was a bought or franchised unit. But it's a shadow of the former Toshi's (the originator is not involved in the business anymore). Food is okay. It's decent teriyaki. But so many mom and pop shops have improved on the basic idea over the years that this just isn't the best now. Chicken was tasty and tender. Gyoza were cooked to perfection but taste like frozen premade. My biggest issue was the salad with some bad lettuce that should never have left the kitchen. Serving stuff like that speaks to lack of attention to detail and to lack of care. Not good. And the salad dressing seemed a bit watered down--tasted good but too thin. So, look elsewhere for your teriyaki fix. There are teriyaki joints on just about every corner in the Seattle region. read more

This place is underrated for what they serve now. Sweet and kind staff behind the counter and in the kitchen. Huge portions, better quality chicken than many places. It's not the Toshi's I had in 1980's or 90's, but this location is better than most teriyaki spots in the area. Seattle teriyaki joints have institutionalized their own version of Americanized "teriyaki" for decades. It seems we've finally seen a rapid trend to more authentic Japanese food establishments in the Seattle area over the past decade. Instead of trips to Vancouver or SFO, we can now find real sushi, ramen, udon options in Seattle!. Yelp reviews have been all over the place while the Seattle old guard figures out how to acclimate their taste buds to more authentic Asian flavors and cultural service styles. I'm sorry to say I will never be back to Toshi's Teriyaki. I ordered a spicy chicken today for lunch and was dissatisfied and disappointed with their lack of quality. Normally the chicken is cooked with the spicy sauce but for whatever reason they just plopped chili paste over my *chicken breast* and called it good. No, not good. There's no flavor and the chicken breast has been cut up in all these giant, sloppy pieces. I ordered chicken breast to avoid that type of meat and that's all I got. The chicken is also stiff and dry. To top it off, the salad it comes with is brown at the corners and soaking in sauce. They put a small amount of chicken on top of the rice and fill the rest of the tray with a soy sauce container and random cabbage slices. I won't be back. read more

Ordered chicken yakisoba to go. On the way home I'm already disappointed because I'm smelling old reused oil. Open it up and it tastes the way it looks and smells. Dry noodles. The whole thing smells and tastes bland, greasy, and dirty. The noodles are extremely poor quality. I just threw away $15 on this. read more

I have been suffering with a miserable sinus infection the last few days. Had a terrible day and just wanted some hot soup to take home. Got the udon and some gyoza and the udon was the savior I was looking for. The broth just spicy enough to clear the sinuses and hot enough to soothe my aches. This soup literally gave me the relief urgent care couldn't. It was loaded with veggies too. Idk if it's good udon in comparison to other places but holy crap was it perfect for my situation and I will be back next time I'm dying of any sinus or throat crap. read more

This Toshi's location is in a strip mall on the Bothell Everett highway that includes a Safeway and an All the Best Pet Care among other businesses. I had never been to any of Toshi's locations before even though I have driven by them on many occasions and now I can see why. While nothing was bad about the restaurant, the food, or the staff, there was also nothing that really stood out either. Everything here was solid and did the job it was intended to do. Toshi's definitely falls straight into the middle of the pack when it comes to the myriad of teriyaki options available which you can find just about anywhere...except Sundays. read more

Toshi's Teriyaki is my stand-by, favorite place to have teriyaki in town. Their prices are very affordable and the food is excellent. We always go for takeout and when we bring it home, the food is consistantly up to great standards and all the items we need are always included, like extra teriyaki sauce, forks, napkins, and fortune cookies. My personal favorite is the chicken skewers, but other members of my family like the yakisoba and the chicken bulgogi. Toshi's is great! :) read more

I don't know what it is about this place but I've been here about 5 times in the last 2 weeks for their wonton soup (fresh and NOT overly salted) and General Tao's chicken. The chicken is fantastic! It's like eating a plate of crisp hot wings without being too spicy and not greasy. The staff is friendly and curt, not pretending you are their best friend when you walk in, they want to know what you want, give them 10 minutes to cook it and then you are in for a treat. Each time I come here I am disappointed. I keep going back in hopes that they will improve. I ordered spicy chicken with fried rice and my boyfriend got katsu with fried rice. Both dishes were awful. The katsu tasted like it was previously frozen and the spicy chicken was dry. The fried rice, wasn't really fried like- tasted more like over cooked white rice tossed with peas and carrots. I am not too picky of a teriyaki eater, but this wasn't worth it at all. The worse part was that the to go styrofoam boxes were broken and way too flimsy... so overall we probably won't be back for a while. For the price we paid, it was really disappointing. read more

Cheap fast filling-- exactly what I wanted and I had the never ending cup of tea too-- all with 'Johnny Mathis sings Christmas' in the background. I'm about to drive to western Pennsylvania for an extended stay and I can tell you, I'm going to miss these plentiful teriyaki joints that we have so many of in the seattle area. Terrible! Save your money and go eat at McDonald's instead. I waisted 25 dollars on hot and spicy Teriyaki that was grilled chicken with hot chili sauce dumped all over it. The food is decent, at least the short ribs, skewered chicken and skewered beef are good. I have never ordered anything else (except on two rather strange occasions) in the past 10 years of coming here. Food and location are good. Toshi's should have more reviews, because this little place has the best chicken katsu and egg rolls I've ever had! The chicken is always very lean with no fat or gross chewy crap disguised in breading. And the teriyaki sauce is to die for!!! Pour that sauce of the gods over everything!!! read more

If you're a vegetarian, or have any allergies/dietary restrictions, steer clear of this place! The staff is friendly enough but very hard to communicate with. We asked the staff several times if their Miso Soup contained animal products (we are vegans) and received a firm and confident "no," although it's clear now they didn't know what they were saying. After eating the Miso Soup a great number of times, to our dismay we discovered from another staff member that it contains some sort of fish powder! The only other item on their menu that is allegedly vegetarian is their Tofu and Vegetables Plate, but we wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of hidden meat or fish product in that dish as well. If you have ANY dietary restrictions or questions about the food, the staff will likely not understand your question, and will more likely respond untruthfully than respond with a simple "I did not understand your question." Conclusion: nice staff with good intentions, but poor communication skills make them unfit to run a restaurant. read more
