It was my son's Birthday and he picked this place. It was empty when we arrived the waitress was not a happy camper. She did not speak at all, also I believe she did not speak English. She was not personable. The restaurant filled up quickly with Ramadan, and I quickly realized that the owner or Manager was very friendly with the other patrons and not to the Americans. Not once were we asked if everything was ok. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures because it's not what I normally do, my son's dish which was a combination which had 2 tablespoons of white rice and yellow rice. Rice is very inexpensive and should have had more rice. My octopus appetizer was not cooked properly. The Calamari was perfectly cooked. But, unfortunately I would not go again, the hospitality was terrible. Also they charge a fee for using a credit card, they base the gratuity with the fee for using a credit card? read more

Toros - Mediterranean Near Me - Montclair, New Jersey

Cannot wait to go back. Sunday was my first time here; a suggestion from a friend. Loved the location and the layout of the restaurant. Beautifully decorated place, but lets get to the food. Soooooo Gooood!! From the starters Babaganus, Shepards Salad then came my entrée Tavuk which was the Chicken Kebab. Everything I had was delicious and the best part is that I had leftovers. Oh and I had there Baklava, very good. read more

Best turkish restaurant in nj and ny! Everything in the menu is recommended. I just ate their okra and it was just like how my grandma did it. read more

One of the best Turkish restaurants in NJ! Great selection of appetizers and main courses. Ask for stuffed grape leaves and lebni. Make sure you at least order lamb shank once! Don't forget a great selection of deserts and Turkish Coffee is a must! read more

Feel like you've escaped to the Mediterranean! Order the Toros Combo Plate (a mouth-watering indulgence for meat lovers) and hot, homemade Turkish bread to share and dine under the stars in their romantic outdoor garden. Staff is warm, lovely (and helpful if you are new to Turkish cuisine). Make a reservation, support incredible local food and owners who care and love what they do! Once the outdoor heaters are on, I will eat at this BYOB gem as often as I can! read more

We ordered takeout for dinner on 4.17.18. The lady who answered the phone was really nice. When we arrived the hostess was also very kind and hospitable. But when we got home to enjoy our food the chicken was overcooked, the bulgur wheat was very bland, no seasoning at all. The hummus as we know from the other toros in clifton is always very creamy and decadent wasn't this time. My mother who loves the bulgur wheat is a huge fan and that is one reason why we continued to be loyal customer at toros, she was very disappointed. I will be contacting the store manger today about this issue. Toros Montclair- we will not be returning to this location! read more

Excellent middle eastern food. All of our meals were well prepared and delicious. Highly recommend!

Had lunch there a few weeks ago, excellent lentil soup, babaganoush (spelling?) and Adana kebab, and have been back for dinner or take out three times. The food is great (they bake their own bread) and the service is excellent. Happy to have them in the neighborhood. read more

We were in the area and tried Toros. Wow ! Charming little restaurant with beautiful table service. We selected our table and were very comfortable. Haluck was very attentive, opened our wine immediately, and offered his recommendation from the very large menu: a combination platter which had an abundance of delicious chicken, beef and rice. He then presented us with an amazing baklava dessert. Everything was a delight for the palate. Go to Toros to relax and be treated royally. read more

I had frequented Toro's in Clifton and always enjoyed their food so when they opened their Upper Montclair location we had to try it. This is the authentic Turkish cuisine that I grew up eating. They start you off with warm delicious bread with an oil and balsamic dipping sauce. For an appetizer we had the baba ghanoush that was excellent. For my entree I had chicken, onions, peppers and kavlaka cheese (Chicken Sote) with a side of rice that I enjoyed very much. My wife had the Kofte (minced beef) also with a side of rice and veggies that she said was excellent. This is a nice comfortable place where the service is always friendly and accommodating. I never get tired of eating this kind of food and look forward to coming back soon. read more

Delicious meal. Hummus was amazing. Not too impressed by the Branzino. It had no taste but overall a good experience

We have dined in and have ordered from Toros several times over the years for parties. The food is always outstanding and the people are so nice. They are very accomodating with dietary requests and we always order extra for leftovers. Eating them as I write this review. read more

Toros is one of my go-to spots. The atmosphere is great and the back garden is absolutely dreamy in the spring, summer and fall. Service is always warm and welcoming, and the staff consistently go our of their way to ensure a perfect experience. The food is great and fresh. Have been at the Clifton and Paterson locations in the past but did not know there was a new location in Montclair. Stopped in by chance while Christmas shopping. It was fairly early so it was not crowded but due to an expected large party in the main dining room we sat by the kitchen. Only ordered soup and appetizers. The red lentil soup was very good. Tabbouleh was fine but needed just a dash of lemon. The hummus was good and the babagannush was nice and smoky. The Turkish coffee was just exactly as we remembered it in Istanbul. Overall it was a very pleasant meal with very good service. One slight downside. The seating area by the kitchen is rather narrow and tight. No one's fault but less ideal than eating in the main dining area. We noticed that it can get noisy and hot. But it did not significantly detract from the overall dining experience. Would we return? Yes. read more

Went there with my family and we sat in the back patio which was beautiful and relaxing. Food was delicious and our server ( a young lady with long hair, if i remember correctly) was very pleasant. Bathroom was clean:) Would definitely eat there again. read more

Been to this location on numerous occasions over the past year. Weekday lunch specials are always a great deal. Perfect for a busy day when you need a great meal to turn things around. Dinner service is also great. My friends and I tend to like things on the spicier side and the owner and staff were very happy to provide us with customized hot 'special' sauces. They also have a nice outdoor courtyard area, which made us feel comfortable during the past year. Overall the food is great and the service is outstanding. Look forward to continue to visit Toros. read more

Love the lunch specials here. And eating on the back patio when the weather is nice is always a pleasure.

We just had a graduation party here this weekend and everything was great. Great food. Great service. Overall great atmosphere. The owner was so accommodating to our needs when it came to decorating prior to the party or adding dishes to the fixed menu. Overall, I would recommend to anyone looking for a place for a private party or for a dinner! read more

Great service rustic decor but disappointed with the food A Turkish would wonder what's boiled broccoli and steamed carrot doing on their plate not justifying the succulent doner kebabs and the Adana kebab Toros should revisit Turkey to catch up on their mind blowing mouth watering cuisine The spread needs to be revamped and mouth watering delicacies kebabs introduced ! Cmon guys Toros is the only place that can live up to the hype ! We need more.... read more

If you make a reservation at this place, make sure you have a backup place in mind because Toros Montclair is not good at honoring their reservations. I had made a reservation for lunch 5 days in advance, only to have them call me the night before saying that they "made a mistake" and can't honor the outdoor seating reservation and that we'd have to sit inside. We only wanted outdoor seating, so we were forced to cancel. To me the reason behind the change is because they probably had a larger or more important customer come in and wanted to take our table to accommodate them. This is not how you do business and as a result I'll never eat here or at any other Toros location again. What a horrible way to conduct business. read more

Ordered to go I got the combination platter of Shish kabob and chicken kabob but I think they sent me the lamb kabob instead which had a smell and was extremely dry, but the chicken was flavorful and saved the dish just wish I stuck with the chicken and not a combo read more

Used to be 5 stars but something happened and now not that great. Knowing some people have "bad days" I gave this place a good 4 or 5 times before writing this review. First of all, service wasn't great. Came in at lunch time and no staff in sight. Had to walk around and eventually go out back to find someone. All the staff were out back talking. Felt like I was interrupting. Was told to sit anywhere I want. The lunch is a good deal, but food quality is poor. I ordered calamari from the main menu but it was under seasoned and very chewy. We ate a few pieces and left the remainder. Most restaurants would have asked if anything was wrong. This one didn't. There are plenty of good restaurants in Montclair so I probably won't be back. I came back so many times because I remember once upon a time it was good and was hoping one day it would be the same. Afraid not. read more

I went to this restaurant New year night with my friends and it was great night. First think is that hit me with smile face on waiters. They were so nice to us. The manager is also did good job when he organize good and service. The dishes was delicious that reflects chiefs skills and abilities. The menu offers a wide variety of delicious and mouth-watering starters followed by the main course, specially designed for youngsters and adults. I had Gyro with shepherd salads and followed with baklava and tea. My friend tried Adana with french fries than followed Turkish coffee. They were exquisite. The main course included Mixed shish kebob and veggie shepherd salad with Humus and eggplant salad. This was really thrilling. It was all followed by baklava and Turkish coffee and tea. All the cuisines were fresh and refreshing. The award winning chefs gave a home-made feeling using the best quality ingredients. The restaurant also offers various types of drinks. The service was of very high quality. You can only see smile expressions on the waiters' face. Also, the owner and manager are full of warmth and thoughtful of his guests. He is always around ready to hear all types of experiences from you and the rest of the guests. I highly recommend to everyone go this place again. Thank you T read more

This place is solid. We have always ordered using Uber eats. Food is really good. Kebabs were cooked to perfection. They give two types of rice, white and red? I don't know the difference but tastes good. Hummus is good. Overall 8/10. Definitely recommend. read more

Food was good but tables were not 6ft apart and the online menu had a cocktail menu but it is a byob

Stopped in for the lunch special with a group from work and was welcomes by the waitress/server her name was Nihal We weren't very familiar of the menu but Nihal explained the apps and entrees to us and was Very helpful. We each ordered some different items and I had the lentil soup which was great and also had the chicken kebab which was delicious and tender and juicy, it came with rice. My coworkers all enjoyed their app/soups/entrees and nothing was left on the plates. The restaurant was crowded for lunch and Nihal came over a couple times to check on us which was VERY nice and professional. The atmosphere was relaxed comfortable. We will be coming back for lunch again soon and probably for dinner as well. read more

toros in upper montclair is not ready for outdoor dining as of yet, which saddens me so. i just got home from outdoor dining there to my dismay!!!!! their food is top notch and i'm not addressing that in this review. where to begin? the main host isn't on premises. i washed my own table w/4 CLOROX WIPES that had too much dirt on it!!!!! there's no enforcement of patrons leaving their tables w/out masks!!!!! i saw at least 4 people walk into the restaurant w/out masks, i gather to use the restroom. they do not have paper menus, only hard surface ones!!!! there's no hand sanitizer offered to diners. TABLES ARE NOT SPACED 6 FEET APART!!!!! if you sit in the alleyway or out front you will be 6 feet apart. fortunately i was in the alleyway, but full of mosquitoes. there were no bug candles outside, so you may wish to bring your own. fortunately we brought our own napkins and silverware.also the ice bucket we were given had food debris on it and we observed a busboy/table cleaner not wearing a mask!!!! despite all this we tipped 45% for the waitstaff is clearly putting themselves at risk. finally, i am comfortable ordering take-out from toros but not outdoor dining w/them during the pandemic. i know for a fact that this would NEVER happen at DE NOVA, SLA THAI, LABORATORIA KITCHEN, or FAUBOURG. read more
