Just progressed from sushi california rolls to sashimi and i love it ,started ordering from here lately and i am very satisfied with the quality ,flavor and prices in toro ,i have yet to get to eat in here ,always takeaway as a treat for myself for lunch but i highly recommend this place for a good sashimi experience also the staff is very nice and accommodating i don't like miso soup and they allowed me to have wonton instead . read more

Terrible :( it makes me sad the use it does this use to be a great place to get good sushi and great Chinese. I used to get it almost everyday that's how good it was. That's certainly and said over a year and a half ago. The food is awful. Tasteless unless you add a bucket of hot chili or oil. Did General Tso's chicken is white and gooey. The soups are flavor less. I don't know is they can get any better. I tried several times to raise the issue of how old food has the same sauce . If you order something crispy or well done it's just the opposite. I think the response I received was that vicious doesn't like to cook different things??? What does that mean. I am very sad to report that there are no good Chinese restaurant in the Carmel area . I will keep hoping. It's a long drive to Manhattan for good Chinese. :-( read more

Thus far this place has had decent sushi near me. I live maybe 15 minutes away and its the go to place when we don't want to go far. When ordering to take home be sure to ask for enough chopsticks.... and extra wasabi. In my opinion they don't give enough unless you ask. read more

Washed out food!!!! I Am Very disapointed with this place ... After we order chicken and shrimp broccoli and was too salty we ask for another one and they just washed it in water and serve same food with half of the sauce left ... The service was slow from the get go. Our food took nearly an hour while tables around us were all receiving their meals. We had to ask four times to get utensils, then one dish took an extra 20 minutes (bento box) & when it finally came out all of the food was overcooked and inedible. It was clear our order was forgotten about, but we never received an apology. We told the waitress the food was subpar & she offered no recourse. We normally go to Toro in Newtown and the food and service are markedly better. There are better options in the area. Also their contact information listed on the website is incorrect. read more

I like Toro's and I think they have wonderful menu choices and their sushi is really good, but a couple of things: They skimp on the rice for the sushi rolls (you get a clear view of the seaweed it's wrap in) and lots of things are up-charges. My favorite item on the menu is the tangerine flavored shrimp or beef but for $17, I do not get very often and to have it with fried rice is $5 more!! For a family of 4 we are leaving there with a bill well over $120 (for Asian food)?, which is why we do not go often. read more

Used to love coming here for a quick dinner. They're losing a star from me because the quality of service (kitchen and waiters) has seriously declined. Be prepared to spend a long time waiting for your food. The current batch of waiters are also quite pushy and rude. The last time I went I had an hour wait for sushi - it was in the middle of the week and essentially empty. Quality of food is still up there though! read more

First time trying our Toro. I called in my order 1.5 hours in advance for the sole purpose of not waiting when I go there. Well I got there my order was not ready and I had to wait 20 minutes with the other poor soles who also called orders in. Will not return, terrible service. read more

We went a few days ago, and got a table in the sushi bar right away. It took 5 mins to get a waiters attention, where we ordered right away. This is where it went bad. We were essentially ignored for about 40 mins, except for the waiter coming back and asking if we had ordered "happy family" (we ordered sushi). I saw my wifes order being made at this point, and sat on the counter. At an hour and 15 mins, a lady at the bar said she had been waiting 50 mins. Apparently the manager was now behind the sushi bar, as i turned and said that we had been waiting for an hour and 15 mins, and would be leaving in 5 mins. All of a sudden, we became important. They brought my wifes meal over and said he was sorry, and offered me a drink. ( i dont drink, and my wife had already had one) 3 mins later i got my meal , showing it takes about 4 mins to make what i ordered. Nothing off the bill, everyone disappeared and ignored us. This was, at one point, my favorite sushi place. Now, my fave is Kobu, and i will never go here again. Such a shame, but i have given them several tries to make a nice happy experience, but it is not to be. Good luck Toro, you have lost a customer. read more

I always get the Sesame Chicken. They create this sweet crust on the outside of the chicken that is AMAZING!! Love this place!

The food here is always fresh and hot when we get take-out. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We like the traditional dishes: lo mein, etc. Have not tried their sushi, but friends say it is good. Would definitely recommend for Chinese food in Putnam County. read more

Used to be a good place for sit down Chinese food but has gone downhill fast. The last 2 visits in 3 months have been largely and increasingly disappointing. For example, lots of oil and sauce in fried rice and noodle dishes but lacks flavor. Wonton soup was flavored exclusively with chicken powder and part of the wonton were still dry when served. July 2016. The restaurant was dirty. The carpet, the tables, the walls were stained. It was gross. The food was equivalent of sushi from a food store that made it 3 days prior. The hostess was inappropriately dressed with tiny short shorts on; looking at the pimples on her legs made my stomach turn. I do not understand how they are in business. read more

Toro has really good food. The owners are very kind. There is a waiter who is excellent, and waitresses are getting much better. Pricing is average of what you find for similar food in the area. It could use some aesthetic updates, but all in all one of our favorite places. read more

Sushi is absolutely disgusting, not fresh at all. The sushi is served so warm it's clearly not even kept at the right temp. The fish stinks like rotten fish and gives you a nasty fishy after taste on your tongue. I had to post immediately after trying this because it is extremely disappointing how terrible the sushi is especially since it's one of the only places in town that sells it. It's also such a shame that they're selling spoiled fish to unexpexting customers. I am truly hoping that I do not become ill after trying this sushi. This is by far my favorite Chinese/Japanese food restaurant in the area. The food is always fresh and delicious (I have never been disappointed in the Chinese food or the rice). The sushi is amazing, especially the special rolls. The Kiwi Cosmo from the bar is a must try. The service is friendly and the view of Lake Gleneida is beautiful! They don't have hibatchi, but I don't care. Go! You won't be disappointed. read more

My wife and I ate at Toro two nights ago. I ordered boneless duck from the "Kitchen Specials" menu. When served, the only thing visable was a mound of about 1 pound of green beans. As I dug into the green beans, I found only sauce, water chestnuts and a very small amount of duck meat underneath. If the kitchen didn't have enough duck meat to properly prepare the dish, they should have advised and asked me for another choice rather than attempting to cover up. I mentioned to the waitress and she said that she would report to the manager. read more

I am a frequent customer at Toro and extremely disappointed in the service I received tonight. The waitress we had was rude from the start and did not properly submit our orders. We were a table of 7 and it took more than 30 minutes for me to receive my meal after my family had received theirs. When I asked for a status of my meal, she stated "what did you order?" I said, "maki combo" and she said, "oh yeah" and ran to the Sushi bar. It was quite obvious that she never put in my dinner order. By the time I received my meal, most of my family were finished. When we received the bill, I was shocked to see that my dish was on it. I said spoke to the female owner and all she said was sorry and blamed the computer. While leaving, we complained again and still no discount or compensation. Everyone in Carmel , mahopac, and Brewster don't go to Toro of Carmel. When Toro opened and I learned it was owned by the same people who run Mannen in Ridgefield, CT, I immediately started going to Toro. The take-out sushi is very good, and to be fair, remains so, stick to that. We made the mistake of eating in tonight and will not be doing so again. The service was non-existent. We were told it would take 30 minutes to get any sushi we ordered (the reason we went there) - it took 55, and only because after 30 minutes we complained to the owner and several other staff. We ordered soup while we were waiting...they forgot 1. We ordered drinks, and water, no one ever returned to offer more water. When the long awaited sushi arrived, no cups to put the soy sauce in. Then after a nearly 2 hour meal that we thought would be under 1 hour, 3 of us had to use the ladies room. Suffice to say, I have been in gas station restrooms that were kept up better. I tried to report some of the issues to the woman at the register who very obviously chose to ignore me. I will be driving back to Ridgefield in the future unless all I want is take out sushi. read more

We have been a patron of this restaurant for many years, my entire family and extended family all dined here. Well after yesterday we will never be going back ever again. When we first got there we were told to follow the hostess for our table we get to the back and she had to bring us back to the front because the table isn't ready. Okay fine. They seat us at a different table which the long bench has no padding in the back so you sink backwards in the seat. (This place is in desperate need of a remodel to say the least). We then all order our dinner at the same time. My food and two family members get their food, 15 minutes later two more family members get their food. And then another 10 minutes later an another family member gets their food. My brother had to wait an extra 30 minutes for his dinner so by the time he got his food, the rest of us were done eating. He didn't even order food that needed to be cooked, sushi!!! What the hell took so long.... They blamed it on a computer error! But the waitress had to ask my brother again what he had ordered flipped through her orders in her little book and then ran to the sushi counter.. That was clearly no computer error. My brother spoke with the female owner who offered no remorse and refused to remove it from the bill. I spoke with the male owner who told me the same thing. We weren't asking for much but a refund of my brothers meal. And that isn't something they could have done. They didn't say that it was their fault other than a computer error. It's a sad day when a business loses a loyal patron who has gone and gives business sometimes twice a week. Their loss. Never again! You can get much better sushi elsewhere!!!
