Finally tried Toro today and I was not disappointed! Inside could use a bit of a face lift but the people were extremely nice and welcoming! We ordered chicken and broccoli and sesame chicken combo. Some of the best chicken I've ever had. Ordered the Thai Coconut Curry Chicken...you don't need to chew it, it's so buttery and melts in your mouth. Looking forward to trying some of the other chicken dishes off of their Chinese and Thai menus. Positives- The food was tasty. The dinner prices were reasonable. The view of Lake Gleneida was nice. The men's room was clean. No skimping of liquor in the exotic cocktails. Negatives- The place is in dire need of an update; zero money has been spent on refreshing anything. Online dinner prices and selection out of sync with what is actually available. There are no dinner combos in reality regardless of what you read online. Ribs were very tasty, soup was hot and fresh, and the chicken with cashews was delicious! I hope they continue to provide good quality. This place is your slightly above average local sushi place. If you happen to be in the Carmel area or live nearby this is a solid but not great place for Asian food. They have a very large menu so even if someone doesn't want sushi they have many other Asian dishes to order. read more

The last order was way overpriced and the lady who took the order was rude over the phone. Both entrees were covered in soy sauce and wasn't good tasting. If you are going to spend top dollar it shouldn't be a sodium bomb. The last few times were enough not to return. The last visit, I ordered beef pad Thai and it had 2 small pieces of beef on top. Not much on the inside but this has been a favorite takeout spot when we get together with my husband's family, something for everyone. It's always been ready on time and the order has been correct. We're a large group so usually spend in the $100-130 range. Sushi is solid, not the best I've had but not disappointing in any way. Nice to have as an option with all the other dishes on the menu. Family favorites are chicken lo mein and chicken fried rice. I'm a fan of the eggrolls. My husband has had a good curry dish. In November of 2018, I visited this establishment and I have never returned ... after I was CHASED into the parking lot after tipping appropriately for the service we received. Food was ALL AROUND horrible. Honestly gas station food is probably fresher than that. It almost resembles a funeral parlor or a run down diner - whatever you prefer. Not only did the man POUND on my car window, he was HOOTING & HOLLERING saying "YOU DIDN'T LEAVE ENOUGH TIP". Tip is not only based upon the price of the bill, but it is also based on service, food, and ambiance. None of those were met. It is now April of 2023 and to be quite honest with you, I'm still aggravated and people do need to know truth of this run down eatery. 0/10 would not recommend, I hope this helps someone. read more

Excellent food here with a variety of gluten-free option. While no dedicated gluten-free menu, the staff was extremely helpful and took the time to go through the entire menu with me pointing out what can be made to order gluten-free. They many times I have called to order, the staff will always point out if I order something that cannot be made glute-free and offers other options. So we eat here at least once or twice a week rarely do we have a look at the bill. Tonight unfortunately I checked the bill, I was shocked because when I saw that I was charged for five seltzer waters It felt that I was a little bit nervy since this restaurant is empty 95% of the time. if they were serving seltzer water out of a can I can understand charge every time but they give you half filled glass of ice with some seltzer water in it and charge it 250 so technically the stealing from the customer. I could understand if I was drinking liquor or something that cost them money and you had to charge but for the restaurant is half empty people are choosing to eat there and then they're hitting them over the head is not fair but when I discussed it with the manager he was very difficult and made me feel like an idiot that I was even saying this. sometimes restaurants dont understand that the customers that they have what helps them still be in business I am going to choose not to eat there anymore for 12.50. Sometimes restaurants have to understand that the customer might not be right but they should be thankful for what they have I'm not saying that I am a great customer but when you spending 150 or $200 twice a weekat your restaurant to hit you the customer over the head for soda water seems to be a little bit silly but again I understand they don't need a customer like me they just need customers to pay the bill to not look. Restaurant does have adequate food for sushi but when you as a customer have to start checking and see how they are ripping you off it starts to make you feel weird and you wonder what the quality of the food they serve you really is I hope that they do very well but they will not have me and my family to come twice a week to come back there good luck to them. read more

Toro is my favorite place for sushi and Chinese food outside of NYC. We drive 45 minutes to eat here because it is worth it. On the Chinese food the General Tso's chicken is a standout as it is unique and really good compared to everywhere else. We mainly go for the sushi with the Amazing and Dinosaur roles as real standouts. They are always friendly, food is always fresh and we will keep goin back! read more

The food was so flavorless that I have told folks about the experience for the last twenty years. Well, even though Toro is nicely decorated the food is lackluster and flavorless to the extreme. It is so "blah" that one actually feels somewhat cheated of the fun of dining out. This restaurant has fallen from grace. It used to be good, then fell to inconsistent but now it's gross. I walked into the restaurant a few weeks ago with my wife, daughter and niece and we sat down; the smell was so bad we got up and walked out..The place is filthy. The carpets are stained and gross as are the bathrooms. If the rest of the place is filthy I am sure the kitchen is the same...We have had meals served with long hair in the food as well.. I order take out sushi from Toro 2 - 4 times a week. It's always good and always fresh. The owners are very personable and will help you create your own rolls so you have everything you like. I currently have the Jessica Love Roll and the Jessica Rock and Roll which my friends also get to order and enjoy! They have a long list of specialty rolls and occasionally have specials. Saw a lot of negative and bad reviews and was reluctant to try it. Boy am I glad we finally did. The food was on point!!! Started off with some noodles and duck sauce and some steamed meat dumplings. Both were very tasty. Next we had some sushi rolls which were the freshest I have ever had and I eat them a lot. Finally we had the Peking Duck which was as good as any duck I have eaten before in queens. To top it off the make some amazing drinks. I was in martini heaven. Will definitely be back again !!!!! Toro is my go-to place for sushi in Putnam County. The waitstaff is kind and friendly, and the sushi is always fresh tasting and delicious. I would stay away from ordering any of the Chinese food because the rice isn't that great, but I can also count on the sushi. I came here on a business meeting with some friends who swore by their sushi. I read some reviews prior to going and saw mixed reviews so I was not expecting too much. The restaurant itself could use a serious remodeling both inside and out. The service was fine but the food was not that great. I got a spicy blue crab roll, shrimp tempura roll, and spicy tuna roll. The sushi smelt very fishy and the tuna was especially mushy. I could tell that the fish was not very fresh. Went with a friend that has been there many times before and she said the sushi was pretty good. We were sat right away, she had a water and I got an iced tea. Ordered a couple of the rolls and it came out in a decent amount of time. The sushi itself was pretty good. Before I finished my tea, I was asked if I would like another one. As I had a bit too much wasabi in the soy sauce, was happy to keep the drink topped off (and this is a big thing for me as I drink quickly). Ended up going through 4 iced teas over about an hour and 10 minutes. Got the bill and guess what, it's not free refills on the iced tea. What the hell?!? Last I checked, I wasn't in Europe but still in the States. Needless to say, being charged 2 dollars for every tea is ridiculous especially when you aren't told and you have your drink refilled before it's completely gone. It was not busy to dine in that it used to be. The waitress we had was handling more tables then the waiter. She was working hard and he did nothing to help her.
