Not the same as a bag of chips
Karin M.

Just got the nachos as takeout. I thought I would give Torchys another shot at the nachos but a different location. Everything is great BUT what is up with so few chips for all the toppings again!! You would think I could get at least what I would get the amount of chips given when ordering just the queso. But no so much less chips and yet as part of my nachos I have a full container of queso and many more toppings. Is torchy's really saving that much $$$ by skimping out on the chips!! Do better. Maybe include a small bag of chips as well?

Sometime the devil makes you do it. Whether looking for a fun bar where you can get beer and margaritas or the monthly taco special with queso and guac. I always enjoy Torchys. Booths and a separate bar are at this location. Bar staff is a bit friendlier than the regular food section.

Mofaux (Up) & Fried Avocado (Down)

Good tacos, friendly staff, comfortable interior. The woman at the counter was very helpful in explaining to us the menu and offering recommendations. She took our order quickly and efficiently. The food came out fast, and it was delicious. The four tacos and guacamole we ordered were all great. Honestly, the only comment I can make is that the guacamole proved to be more spicy than our tacos (despite having the hottest sauce, the tacos packed very light heat if any - might have been a fluke in our order). Definitely a place worth checking out (or coming back to)!

Casual taco chain in the Woodlands located in a strip mall. Quick, friendly service. Download app for reward points. Happy hour $1 off tacos from 3pm-6pm. I would describe the food as a hipsters take on Mexican food. Ordering a taco "trashy style" replaces the lettuce with their queso. This is a good place if you are looking for a quick bite. Recommend the queso and carnitas taco.

Baja shrimp taco

Torchy's Tacos is signature Texas fare, so when in Texas, we had to give them a try. We came here for brunch. They had lots of scrumptious tacos on the menu, but I was in the mood for a light meal, so I ordered only one taco (though I wish I was hungrier for more). One taco was plenty satisfying for me. They also have breakfast tacos which come with a hearty serving of eggs in each. I ordered the Baja shrimp tacos (fried shrimp, cabbage slaw, pickled jalapeños and onions, cotija cheese, and cilantro). The cashier was super helpful with explaining the menu- you get to choose the tortilla (flour or corn) and can switch up the sauces and/or get them on the side. The Baja shrimp tacos came with a "chipotle sauce" on the side (actually chipotle ranch). I chose the flour tortilla and swapped out the chipotle sauce for avocado sauce and tomatillo. I also got to try the roja and chipotle ranch. My favorites were the avocado sauce followed by the roja. They also have extra lime wedges at the drink station, a must-have for my tacos. Our orders were brought out quickly. The taco was good overall, but I do prefer a crunchy, heartier batter on the fried shrimp; the batter on the Baja shrimp tacos was very light and delicate. After ordering, we saw everyone else snacking on chips and queso - it looked so tasty, we just had to have some! Do yourself a favor and order the chips and queso - you won't regret it! Free refill on chips. Pro tip: squeeze lime on the chips. Overall, Torchy's Tacos is a solid taco chain. Prices were reasonable, service was welcoming, and I would come back for more.

Trailer Park Hillbilly Style in a bowl
Julie Lynn B.

My daughter ordered Torchy's via Door Dash a few days ago. She ordered a burrito, which was a decent size and she said it was pretty good, I ordered the Trailer Park Hillbilly style off the "secret menu". The price ended up being $8.20 because I added crispy potatoes. What I got didn't even fill the bowl. There was 3/4 of a chicken strip, maybe 2 tator tot style potatoes and very little else. Very disappointed. Please see photos

Torchys is sort of a Texas staple. You know what you're getting and it's going to be good cause sometimes you just want to be basic and have good tacos. While eating here you'll think to yourself that maybe there's other good taco spots out there and yes there are but you're also at one so‍

Brushfire Taco

Brushfire, Jamaican Jerk Chicken was great! Highly recommend the Hillbilly Queso too! It contains chorizo!! It's on the spicy side though!

For anyone that grew up…read moreor previously lived in SoCal or Baja Mexico, this is a much provided relief from the usual tex-mex cuisine in the Houston area. I chose 3 specialty tacos, the Mar Y Tierra, Baja Shrimp and the Ensenada. I was hoping to find Baja style tacos as great as the ones I used to eat regularly in San Diego. So does this place live up to the hype? Mar y Tierra - the first taco I tried and it was really great. Very colorful as far as presentation. Lots of steak chunks and I loved the thickness of the homemade corn tortilla. 5/5 Baja Shrimp - this was good as well, but pretty standard and not on the same level as the other two. 3/5 Ensenada - comes with 2 tortillas to accommodate the large piece of fried fish, really good taco as well. Maybe breading was slightly on the salty side. Seemed to be beer-battered. 4/5 I also added a fountain drink. During my visit their sodas were down 2 options, no coke and no iced tea. They did have horchata and jamaica flavored drinks on their fountain machine, so I wasn't too upset about the lack of iced tea. I ended up getting the Jamaica drink. The service here was not the best, especially the unfriendly cashier, but aside from all that, I came for the food, not to make friends. You order at the counter, find a seat, get some sauces and garnishes from the salsa bar (mainly for take out customers), and they will bring the food out to you. The ambiance is okay. They have an end cap in the shopping center so the space has plenty of natural light. Decor is black, white and then colorful with a couple of blue and red accent walls. Chair cusions are also colorful, along with colorful flowers at each table and colorful art work. They also have an Instagram worthy wall for those interested. Their chairs and tables are lacquered and a little worn. Not sure if they're supposed to be like that or not. They do have 6 beers on tap and have 4 different bottled beers too...so they really are true to their name; however, I didn't order any.

Asked for one of those thimble sized containers for salsa and the cashier said it actually doesn't come with salsa. Dang. First time I've been denied salsa at a Mexican restaurant. That's like a Chinese store denying someone soy sauce. He said they sell salsa. But when I saw it it's like a full jar. I just wanted some for my chips. Nuts. But in all fairness when he saw the consternation on my face he gave me a couple of the thimble containers. I mean I would've eaten them dry still. America is just coming to the brink of despair. Soon McDonald's gonna be charging for ketchup is my guess.

The place is small so to-go is good and they have lots of to-go family meal options too. The staff was good but the cashier was a bit slow at taking orders with some customers. I ordered: - Carnitas taco on corn - very good - shredded chicken on corn - highly recommend! Of you ever had pazole it tastes like your chicken in drenched in the broth, yum! - queso blanco - not impressed but it was ok. Chips are delicious so recommend some to-go or with salsa. - Mexican coke - the real stuff too! They have a fridge of salsas to grab for your table. I liked them all so it's your preference. The tacos are big portions why they gave me two tortillas. I basically made two tacos out of one order. Awesome deal for $3.25 a taco! I want to try carne asado which I feel will be worth the $1 up-charge. And try the nopales to see how they make theirs. Only complaint I have is the menu. You can't see it until you are close in line. I want a menu I can view while in line waiting. This way the line runs faster. Lastly the menu transitions are distracting when trying to read the menu. I say turn off the transitions, they are more frustrating than a cool feature. I will be back.

I tried the burnt ends, it was delicious . I only wish the tacos were on a corn tortilla instead of flour. The Mexi-Cali Shrimp Bowl was delicious...btw it's gluten Came with salsa, guacamole, shrimp, cilantro, micro greens over a bit of rice. I wish it was more of a salad instead of a rice bowl. But nonetheless, the flavors were 10/10. Plenty of shrimp, and I was full. My kids have a limited pallet, they took a few bites of the cheese, quesadilla and eyeball the tater tots for about 15 minutes then finally ate a few. I would definitely return here again. But you can park across the mall street and walk over, just be careful when crossing traffic. Inside the place is beautifully decorated with culture and colors. Enjoyed that about the place. We checked in and promptly got seated, our initial seating was next to a window, but also next to the waiter order entry computer. Between that and my friend sitting in a wicker chair that has seen better days because she was falling into it, we requested to be moved. Our next seating was better with standard seats, but definitely crowded all around between the tables and waiters squeezing thru, made you feel packed like sardines. I get they want more patrons, but it feels a bit suffocating having everyone so bunched up like that. So much so, that when the tables behind me requested their meal that comes with a fire presentation, I felt that on the back of my neck, I wondered, Am I having hot flashes? No, just the fire blazing closely behind me. Additionally, the noise level is loud where I could barely hear my friend across the table or the waiter talking to me, I had to ask to repeat what he said many times. Our waiter, Christian, was very friendly and attentive. Since it was our first time dining there, we had questions on some items since this wasn't TexMex nor Mexican food that I had tried. So much so that if you like grasshoppers, you can have them added to your guacamole or some other offerings. I wasn't feeling rebellious enough to have tried that, so we passed. As an FYI, chips and salsa are not complimentary, you have to order them as the Salsas & Tostadas, you're provided with 3 different salsas, each with its own spice level. The main thing for me is that our main meal lacked flavor/seasoning. I got the Enmoladas (Mole de Rancho) which were smoked chicken enchiladas. Served with a side of Swiss chard. They tasted fresh, but when it came to a punch of flavor, we got none. The chard was not specifically something I enjoyed nor finished eating. We requested salt, which we didn't want to do, but adding the salt to the Enmoladas helped bring some flavor. Saw they have a brunch offering and would like to return for that and try some of their other drinks.
