I hate to say it, but Torchy's Tacos made a couple of changes since the last time I came, and I do not feel like the changes were good. They added chorizo to a lot of items, we tried it with the queso and a taco, and it wasn't good. It is a shame because normally I really enjoy their food. This is my spot! I love the queso here it's so bomb. I always order chips and queso along with the brushfire taco. The brushfire taco is my absolute favorite. It has jerk chicken in it that's season perfectly and it also comes with diablo sauce which is spicy. I will say if you don't like spicy food you might not want to order this taco. Decided to try Chipotle for Sunday lunch, only to find they didn't have tortilla chips, due to being understaffed. We made a quick call to Torchy's, and ordered a to-go bag of chips. We only come here for Sammi, the tacos and the guacamole and queso. If Sammi didn't work here we would have to find a new torchys to go to or always do take out. Tacos are great every time & the guac is hands down the best. The bartender Sammi makes three best drinks and is so attentive. A horrible experience. I frequently eat at Fuzzy taco and more recently Rusty's taco but today I thought I'd try something new and go to Torchy's . Unfortunately, it was a miserable experience. I'm not gonna drone on reciting every detail but suffice it to say....the gist of it.... The guy behind the register could not figure out how to ring up a swirl margarita. After waiting for a manager to try, we were told to just pay for the food there and go over to the bar and order the drink separately. Really?, ok I went along with that. Went to the bar to order it there. Waited, waited , waited.... finally the girl asked for order... ( same girl from the front register......really) Dumfounded, we reminded her the same swirl rita. Then she asks for the card runs it and hands back a blended rita... not a swirl. When we questioned her she said " oh , I don't know , I selected swirl but it blended it"..... really ?!?. Mean time, ( we are not even seated yet ) a waitress is standing there with our tacos getting cold because all this has taken so long the food long came out before we even found a place to sit.... really ?!?!. Did I mention that both pens they gave me to sign the receipt did not work..... and then ,the icing on the cake..... one of the three tacos... the trailer park , which I ordered based on reviews, had a piece of chicken that was over cooked , over fried, warmed over and dark with a burnt taste. Really !!?!?!. It completely ruined what should have been a great taco. The other two we had were good. All in all it was the most frustrating experience we've had eating out in a long time. I did give two stars because aside from the evenings events, I feel their menu is quite interesting and the two remaining tacos were very good. My advice, if you want to try Torchy's , do yourself a favor and try a different location ..... one that might actually care. I will avoid this location at all costs and may just stay with other taco joints all together. read more

This is what happens when you expand too fast. Years ago torchy's went on an aggressive expansion. Today their stores are an example of what happens when you do that. Employees bumping into each other, dirty environment, subpar quality. This is not what was envisioned from day one but ultimately is out of their control. No idea who even owns torchy's today. Most likely some private equity firm. It's time to pull back on the yoke and shut down a number of these. read more

OH EM EFF GEE!!! I suppose Torchy's motto is "Scratch made. Never shortcut".... well someone made a huge shortcut today! I found a very short, thick, dark hair (looks like pubic hair) under my taco today. Gross!!! Like did someone think it was funny to put they hands in they pants and sprinkle some pizazz? Not on my watch Torchcito!!! Thankfully I haven't taken a bite yet but just imagine if I did??? You know how much my life would've changed with pubic hair in my system? I had Torchy's in Austin and it was amazing. The tacos were flavorful, the service was great. I've tried this location twice and been disappointed twice. The woman helping at the counter looked and sounded annoyed that she even had to take my order. When I received my order (to go), both of the flour tortillas on my tacos were cold. It's all about customer service, and sadly this location is lacking. read more

Goodness I love trying all of the new tacos! Each taco is so unique and delicious it's can be addicting...just be strong! The tacos always come out super fresh and delicious but they can occasionally skimp out on the meat and give you a super small piece of chicken or two pieces of shrimp. But for the most part it's a great serving. Two tacos will do you in good, but if you're extremely hungry three may do the job. It would definitely put me over the edge because they're super big. Their guac is delicious, but it has cheese on top and I always ask for it without. The queso is addicting, and has a great kick to it. It comes with a scoop of guac in the bowl and I love that touch, it's the best of both worlds for me. Service is hit or miss, sometimes your food comes out super quickly, but there has been times where I'm waiting for way too long. Nonetheless, the staff is incredibly nice. I haven't had a bad experience with anyone who works there. Just take a chance and go outside of your usual when selecting your tacos. ***The breakfast tacos at this southern Texas restaurant group's Plano location are good but do not reach the highs of the great breakfast tacos at HomeState in Los Angeles*** Breakfast tacos are a nice alternative to breakfast burritos. They are not as filling so you can do a little more mixing and matching of flavors and fillings. I believe breakfast tacos started in South Texas. The first time I had them in Texas were at a Torchy's Tacos food truck in Austin, Texas. This Torchy's in North Texas is not a food truck. It is a brick and mortar order at the counter restaurant with a lot of seating (both indoors and outdoors). I had two of their breakfast tacos--one featured egg, bacon, green chiles, and cheese while the other featured egg, jalapeno sausage and cheese. I liked the omelette-like mixture on the flour tortilla. It was very filling and obviously freshly made. I preferred the thick, smoky and chewy bacon to the just okay jalapeno sausage, which had a texture more similar to store bought summer sausage than a freshly made sausage patty. I did not care for the strong in flavor shredded cheddar cheese. I think it should have been more melted to so that it would have gone better with the warm taco filling. The flour tortilla was fine but definitely not like the fresh flour tortillas at HomeState in Los Angeles. Service was quick and prices were reasonable given the quality and portion sizes. If I was in this area a lot, I would definitely return to Torchy's because it is a good, reasonably priced and quick breakfast option. It might not top some of the best breakfast options in Dallas, but it is worth a shot if you find yourself in this area. This Torchy's is in a retail plaza, which has its own free parking lot. This place has some of THE best tacos I've ever had. I had the Beef Fajita and the Trashy Trailer Park. Both were DELICIOUS! I highly suggest asking for extra poblano sauce because it is lick-off-the-plate good. The portions are big so two tacos will fill you to the brim. Each taco is between $3.75 and $4.75, which is a great deal. They also have relatively cheap drinks and a good happy hour selection. In terms of ambiance, it's 5 star. Whether you want to sit at the bar, at a table, or outside, you will feel very cozy. The staff was very friendly and knew their menu well. They were attentive but never made me feel like I'd have to talk to them between every bite. This is my new go-to taco place! I highly recommend going. I've had some t-shirts for a loooong time, and none of them is doing what the two I bought from Torchy's are doing. The seam is coming apart at the neck creating a hole between the shirt and the collar. I have attempted to contact Customer Service, but no one responded. I guess until this is dealt with, I would recommend not buying t-shirts. But by all means, keep going for the FOOD!!!!! read more

We go to torchys often, but we were at this location for the first time. The lights are beautiful and they have plenty of seating. We got the fried avacado taco, the trail blazer,brushfire and the street corn. The fried avacado taco had unripe avacados fried , one bite and it was hard to eat. My wife is a vegetarian and orders this everytime we go to torchys and she was very disappointed. The street corn was very dry, cold and had so much cheese, nothing like we had at other locations. Yet another solid Torchy's location. See my reviews from other Torchy's and this is more of the same awesome. My go-to and craving is still the Dirty Sanchez. Awwwww yea. Only other comment for this location: gates for outside patio don't have latches. Who cares, you say. Well, we watched a one or two-year old run out a gate and almost into traffic. One of our party nabbed him. I spoke to a manager afterward and he said he's fighting with the City of Plano about it. Some dumbass rule about latches being a safety concern for little kids cutting their head open if they fell into one. So... get rid of latches so little kids can run into traffic. Bravo, Plano. Stupid stupid stupid. But I liked how the manager handled it and he's clearly working on it. My solution: add those latches like they have around pools where the latch is "interior" and you pull a little knob / rod up to open it. No nasty cuts to be had on those safety devices. Keep up the good fight, Torchy's. Oh, only other note: the parking lot sucks and is crazy. I don't blame Torchy's for the shopping center's poor parking design, but heads up - parking sucks and you may have to walk a little, especially during peak hours. read more

Torchy's is a fast casual joint, but it seems like a lot of the Yelpers are expecting some sort of fine dining experience. Torchys is apologetically Tex-Mex and there's nothing wrong with that. As far as guilty Tex-Mex goes, their Queso is pretty fantastic and addictive. They'll keep replenishing your chips, so thats an added bonus. One of the specials was a fried chicken taco, which underwhelmed slightly. The best of the bunch was the Missionary Style Green Chile Pork, which was downright amazing. The carnitas were cooked quite well, and there was a ton of salt an acid coming from the salsa verde and the cheese. All-in-all these are some damn good tacos. Great food, painfully slow service for breakfast. I guess we're all still waking up while we're here? I was surprised how slow the line moved (I ate in, and never saw it get any better). The food took a little while to prepare as well. I'm guessing they don't staff up a ton in the morning, which would explain the single cashier and likely minimal staff in the kitchen. However, service was friendly and with a smile. Drink your water or coffee and chillax. But that aside - HELLO delicious food! The tacos are huge. Unbelievably slow and crowded. Once order was placed took forever for our order for two people to come out. Because there's nowhere for the pickup order people to sit/ stand while they wait, there are people randomly clogging up aisles and lurking over tables.
