I haven't been to Salsa Tex Mex in at least 5 years. My girlfriend happened to run into someone and strike up a conversation about food and this person let her know that Salsa had hired away the GM of a Gloria's and made improvements in their food, service, and "everything." What I can say is that Salsa now has salsa, chips and black bean dip just like Gloria's; yes, that iconic, tasteless black bean dip that could stand to have some salt, cumin, paprika, chili powder, black pepper, Mexican oregano and onion added - you know... adobo! Ambiance - basically a dirty school cafeteria. The floors have been stripped to concrete and the noise level is at a steady 80+ decibels. The chairs, tables and vinyl tablecloths ache for a good scrubbing. Speaking of noise - one of the margarita machines was as loud as a lawn mower. Why? Well when a random server saw me staring at the machine and asked me if everything was ok, I said, "you know, I think if the side panel were put back on, that margarita machine would be much quieter." He looks at me and says, "yes, but then it would overheat again because it is too close to the other margarita machine. It was quiet when we had it on the other side of the bar, but the manager wants them together." Then he laughs and walks off. Speaking of laughs, our server was a riot. We ordered a hamburger for our four year old. When ordered, I asked the server to bring mayonesa (mayonnaise) and not ketchup. She says, "ok, we don't have the mayonesa so you can have ketchup so that's ok." I asked if she had any other salsas like a salsa macha. She said they have a habanero and a molcajete salsa and brought them to us. The habanero was fruity and not at all spicy. The molcajete had actually gone bad. It tasted rancid and smelled. I told the server and she said, " oh no. Ok." Then she walked off and didn't take the bowl and no doubt didn't tell anyone. I ordered the Churrasco and my girlfriend the Rene. When our food arrived, the kids hamburger was placed on the table with a warning about the plate being very hot. Who puts a kid meal on a plate that is hot?!?! Also who puts a ramekin of chimichuri sauce on top of the steak? FWIW, the chimichuri was not even close to being chimichuri. On the upside I stopped a bus boy and asked for mayo and amazingly, he brought some. The server came back and said, "oh, you got mayonnaise!" Then I asked (in Spanish) why she told me she didn't have mayo. She babbled incomprehensibly in a mix of English and Spanish that was a mix of lies and half truths. Who lies about mayo for a kid? Our meals were unremarkable and tasted like Sysco foods TV dinners. The only thing that I can tell has been improved is the prices - in Salsa's favor. Salsa Tex Mex - do better. Hire staff that actually cares about your restaurant and customers. Train your wait staff. Improve your recipes, source higher quality ingredients, and simplify your menu. Fix your equipment and ambiance. 2 stars because at least the water glasses were clean, the margaritas were strong, we didn't have to wait long to check out. read more

Me and my family love Mexican food. If you don't see us in a Chinese restaurant, you'll find us in a Mexican one. There are many Mexican restaurants around here. This place is so close to our house. So we didnt need to think twice of where to go. We ordered our favorite items: fajitas and tacos. The steak fajitas were great! We liked the meat cut in wider strips. They were very tender, juicy, and nicely grilled. The fish tacos were also delicious. The fish strips were chunky and tasty. We really liked the generous portion sizes. We were not able to finish everything, so we took home the leftovers for another meal! The service was good. The place was quite busy on a Sunday night. Everyone seemed to have a good time enjoying their food and the lively vibe. We'll come back to try the other items. If you like local, home-style dining, come check this out! read more

The hostess was friendly and greeted us right away. This is a huge restaurant but they were only using 1/2 of it. It was dark inside with the window coverings closed. The food was good but our server needed more training. He was very very very soft spoken. After our food was delivered he never asked us how it was or if we needed anything. Came to this place on a whim for takeout when I drove by it and saw it. The hostess was friendly and the service was quick. We ordered the birria tacos which were delicious and they did not skimp on the meat. The enchiladas were very good, a tad spicy, but tasty. The rice and beans were also good. Our food was packaged with salsa, chips, and black bean dip. On a Tuesday evening, the place was busy but there were dinner tables available. I love this restaurant. It's right by my house everyone's friendly. The drinks and the food are delicious. Camilo who's the waiter that I usually go see is the best. José is one of the waiters there and he's super sweet and kind too. All the management staff knows you and they're very kind even when you come in 10 minutes before they close and I always apologize but they always smile and are happy to help. I'd recommend this place on any night OTHER than a busy weekend. Our servers forgot about our party of 7 and the dining room was PACKED to the gills. She ended up comping us a queso blanco for forgetting us, so that was kind of nice. I felt bad because the restaurant needs more servers and a biger dining space so nobody trips because there were multiple loud crashes that I heard throughout our time dining there. The whole table shared jalepeno poppers and the queso blanco, and to eat the boyfriend and I had a carne asada and a chile relleno. It hit the spot! The wait for the food wasn't too bad after we got the server's attention. I'd be happy to try coming back on another less busy weeknight. read more

Two different visits and both deserve one star. The first visit they got my order wrong. This happens sometimes, no big deal. The problem is the way they handled fixing it. They basically scraped off the sour cream enchiladas off the plate and then put the chile con carne enchiladas on top of the old scraped off plate. There was still sour cream below the new enchiladas. They DID NOT use a new plate. Completely unacceptable. The other incident happened while they were busy. I simply asked a worker(who happened to be a manger) if could get waitstaff to help us. We were sitting for about 10 min....people who came in 10 min after us were getting served. When I asked him for help he decided to lecture me on how busy it was and how waitstaff navigates taking orders in a busy restaurant. We obviously was having a bad day and took it out on me in simply asking for help. He then accused me of giving him attitude....and made it very clear he was the manager. I was done with him at that point...got up and left. It's unfortunate because they do have good food and it's one of my wife's favorite Mexican food places. However, after these two incidents I'm going to take my business elsewhere and you should as well. Too many choices to put up with the above. read more

Dinner with my big ole fambam at Salsa Tex Mex was absolutely delightful and delicious tonight. We got seated relatively quickly, considering we were a group of nine people and they were busy as heck! My yummy tamale dinner was so much food that I'll be eating the leftovers for another day or two, and it was exactly what I expected, came pretty fast, and was super tasty. I also had a frozen margaritas that was delicious. Everything was very affordable, especially considering the current inflation we're experiencing. Our waitress Vickie was one of the best waitresses I have had in a very long time, and she made our experience that much better. I adored her and her quick wit and fun sense of humor, but she was also extremely attentive and it was easy to get her attention when needed. I hope they value her there because she was apparently rather new and you wouldn't have ever known with how flippin amazing she was! God bless you, Vickie!! I have been going to Salsa for years. My husband and I usually sit at the bar to eat dinner. Tonight, we received the worst service I have ever received. All of the waitstaff were women who were much more interested in talking and talking and talking with one another in Spanish, than taking care of their customers. When we sat down the bar was dirty. The waitress asked for our drink orders and we asked her if she could clean the bar. You would have thought we asked her to give us one of her kidneys. She seemed so put upon, like how dare you ask me to clean the bar, don't you know who I am??? She continued to talk, talk, and talk to her co-workers in Spanish and they would all look at us and laugh. We got our food, the beans were cold, not tepid but ice cold. I asked our entitled waitress if she could warm them up. About 10 minutes later she delivered a bowl of beans in a large bowl with tortilla chips on top. The original beans were served in a small cup sans tortilla chips. The beans were smoking hot, if you touched the bowl you would get 3rd degree burns. After 15 minutes the beans were too hot to eat. Our waitress kept watching us, laughing at us along with her friends and speaking Spanish. I will never ever go back and if you don't speak Spanish I would highly recommend that you don't give your money to Salsa. There are too many Mexican restaurants that will respect and appreciate your business. read more

Our servers were really attentive and friendly, but I was disappointed in the menu. Still one of the best TexMex in the area. And I believe they must be one of the most consistent restaurants I've ever regularly frequented as far as food quality and getting orders right. We still do takeout at least three times a month from Salsa! Recently tried their carnitas, which I was hesitant to give a go as most carnitas I've had have been dry and or flavorless. Salsa's carnitas are insanely good! Large chunks, crispy outside yet tender, seasoned, and served with a choice of tomatillo or ancho sauce - we ask for both. Bistec Mexicana is delish, and a great choice if you dig spicy (plenty of jalapeño in the sauce). We've hit pretty much the whole menu, no duds. Absolutely love Salsa!! Again, we typically do takeout. They are consistently busy. Tables are close to each other, gets loud, not the greatest ambiance and not my fave place to dine in. But oh the food...!! read more

A really extensive menu of really good food. The carnitas plate is one of the best I have ever found, and everyone also raved about the enchaladas with shrimp & sour creme. Generous portions at reasonable price. All food impressed as being in-house prepared. Different chefs at different locations may make a difference. I have patronized only the Stacy street location in Allen, but now I plan to try others, say in Plano and Frisco. I would say the menu goes a bit beyond the tex-mex fare they advertise. Decor and service also totally acceptable. I never give 5 star reviews, since something always could be enhanced. I'd like to give it my top 4 1/2 rating, but as close as I can enter is 4. read more

We've been going here for years. We decided to go for lunch. Seated right away and chips and salsa came quickly. Chips were a little greasy and smaller pieces. We ordered enchiladas and the Alejandro plate. The enchiladas were meh...the beef tasted old. The cheese enchilada was cold and the cheese rather hard. The refined beans were a little runny.
