Super soft and flavorful, not that chewy texture you get at some places big difference there. They've only been open about two weeks and it was already pretty busy for a Wednesday, so that says a lot Plano doesn't have that many Mexican spots, but this one still feels like it's going to stand out. Went here for lunch today. My other half has always been a fan but me, not so much. We got there at 2 PM when they have a lunch special every day, but although being seated within 15 minutes because they were not crowded, we had terrible service & I was not happy with the food. I think our server was also tending bar. It took 15 minutes to get an iced tea and over 45 minutes to get our entrée and after that, I finally got the queso I ordered. This place is convenient to our home but it's only a 15 minute drive up maximum to other really good Mexican restaurants. This is really a shame since it's close to home but personally, I will never go back. Mediocre Mexican food combined with bad service is just not an acceptable thing in Texas. There are too many other good options. The ambience is OK so I can't follow them on that but bad service with mediocre food is just not acceptable at any price. read more

Having been a patron of the Desperados when we lived in East Dallas back in the day, we really enjoyed dining there and were excited to learn this new location opened up in Plano not too far from us. The new restaurant is nice, but when we dined in on a bright afternoon, the back of the restaurant where we were seated was unusually dark. I noticed a few other table had lamps at their tables but we didn't. It would've helped, because despite it being super sunny outside, it felt like we were dining in a cave. The font on the menu is pretty small, so I had to snap a pic and then zoom in. The one saving grace of this restaurant was the excellent and attentive service we received from our waitress- I think her name was Erica. She was great! But unfortunately the food was a miss. First, the chips- were unforgivable. I don't know if they were from a bag, or if they were just old, but they were terrible and underminded any delicious tastes from the two salsas on the table or the question we ordered. It was just an abomination to serve chips that bad. For my entree I ordered the fish tacos. The slaw on fish tacos was too salty. It really ruined the tacos. Conversely, the beans were bland. Rice was okay. Also, there were no fruity beverage options like an agua Fresca or mocktails. They only had ick lemonade (not the fresh kind) or Fanta. This was a let down as well. As someone who does not drink alcohol or caffeinated beverages, it seemed really limited. Despite the excellent service, it was not enough to overcome the misses in the food department. Tex Mex is always an indulgence for me, and it felt like the food here at Desperados really missed the mark. The chips they served were really that bad that it set the entire experience off the rails. I remember the chips at the Greenville Ave. location being thicker and fresh. It was a real disappointment to see the care in food prep and consistency diminish like this. I've been to the other Desperado's so many times over the years and the magic just isn't there at this location yet. I know it's only been open a few month's but it think they will need to recalibrate and first and get the chips right. Opening a new location is hard work, but getting g that basics right will set a good foundation to build on. read more

A for effort! But this was a miss. Love family businesses, but this one in particular made me want to go to Taco Bell. The food reminded me of small town Mexican that a white person made. My family has been eating at the desperados on Greenville Avenue for over a decade so I was excited that there was a location in Plano. Service was good. Prompt and attentive. We called ahead, which was a good idea because there was a bit of a wait when we arrived. I was disappointed in our chile relleno, though. the reason I like desperado's chili relleno so much is their almonds and raisins inside. Many restaurants chili relleno on their menu, but the almonds and raisins at Desperado's makes theirs stand out. Unfortunately both mine and my wife's chili relleno did not have raisins or almonds. We brought this up to the manager and instead of bringing us new food they brought us a ramekin of uncooked almonds and raisins. I was looking forward to this signature dish, but probably won't be back to this particular location again. read more

Last month I placed an online to-go order at 9:30pm. I ordered brisket tacos, thinking it's something easy & basically already cooked (try to be nice to the kitchen since it was near closing time). Their website was acting weird so I ended up having to redo the order a few times and noticed it kept defaulting me to a different one of their locations. When it finally went through, I triple checked that it showed my order going to the Plano store, but when I arrived at 9:45 to pick up my order, it wasn't there. I didn't complain, but explained the website situation & asked if they could check the other location. I also asked if they could go ahead and make it for me since I was there. He told me he had to check with the kitchen because they were closing up (they wouldn't be closed for another 15min). They called the manager to the register. He was extremely rude, talking as if I was throwing a fit about things, & insisted I pull up the website and show him where I ordered it. I showed him, and he walked away, saying he'd be right back. When he returned, he told me the other store was going to refund my money tomorrow, but my food was being prepared here now. My food came out a few minutes later & when I got home (a 5min drive), my brisket tacos were ice cold and swimming in grease. It was disgusting. I never got my refund & I'd spent about $50. A week went by then I called the other store & spoke with the manager there. He knew nothing about it but seemed concerned & said he'd look into it & pass the info on to the regional manager to call me. I never heard from anyone again and never got that refund. Will never return to Desperados. The manager & staff at the Plano location were extremely rude and lazy, and as a whole it doesn't seem the chain cares about customer service or retention. read more

The plan is nice and clean and a pretty place. We went there because we had seen on internet - free queso with order. Also had a picture of phone for free queso. The waitress didn't know what to do with it so manager came over. He would not honor it. We decided to eat there any way. Ordered Chile Rellenos. Worst I have ever eaten!!! So soggy!! Tiny bowl of chips and small water glass. Only one little bowl of salsa for the both of us. Thought we had ask for a steak dinner to try to get refills of water and red sauce and chips. My wife and I have been eating at Desperados since the 90's so when we discovered there was a new location in Plano, we planned our visit. We went for lunch when it is easier to get a table. From our understanding, the place gets packed around 6pm for dinner. Positives: They have the best beef fajitas in the area. Tasty and easy to eat. The meat cuts super easy. Their beans and rice on the side are also nice. My wife liked the salsa, I thought it was just okay. The house margaritas are also very good. The wait staff were friendly with the right amount of attention. Concern: The lunch menu shown online is NOT what they have on the menus in the restaurant. Our waiter said the people handling the website are getting ahead of the restaurant. That's not a good idea. It's leads to expectations that the business can't deliver on. We'll definitely be back to get Desperados Tacos sometime. read more

We have been to this location twice. When you walk in it's a very clean and pretty restaurant. Hostesses have been a fail for friendliness, but the waiters have been great, attentive and knowledgeable. Food is above average, not great but good. Just not a lot of flavor in their food. Kind of expect more, because they have 2 other locations and should know what customers want. Now, the fail is their mixed drinks. Tried a margarita holiday drink they advertise at table- terrible, have also tried their Paloma- terrible, no flavor at all. So, get a beer or a margarita out of the machine. Bartenders need to be experienced, and chefs need to start throwing some flavor in the food. We will be back, but not as often as we had hoped. read more

I have been a loyal Desperados fan for over 25 years. Their Desperado Tacos EERE top tier delicious. I went to the new Desperados in Plano as I was very excited to have one of my fav Mexican restaurants down the street. The place is beautiful, the service was ok- I get that new restaurants with new ownership need time to catch their groove. But, the tacos were not the same. The owners have obviously tried to cut corners on the quality of ingredients and changed the recipes of long standing staples of the restaurant. All four in our party left disappointed with our dishes. To be honest, we were so disappointed we don't plan on returning. Sad to see that happen. read more

The service is excellent. We have been there 5 times and love it. Except last night we ordered virgin margaritas because we don't drink alcohol. We have ordered them several times before at this location and they were excellent. This time we ordered and they said they don't serve them anymore. That is very disappointing. We also ordered the chicken quesadillas which were very good. We ordered the fried fish tacos which were awful. Fish was very small and there was more batter than fish. Also the tacos were so oily from the sauce I couldn't even eat them. Very bad experience. I have had many fish tacos and most places have a lot of fish in the taco. This was very disappointing. We really liked this place but this puts us on the fence now. The virgin margaritas is so disappointing also cause they were so good. read more

The place is very nicely decorated. I did takeout. I was promised that this would be much better than "On the Border ". It was more expensive and not better. I ordered the steak fajitas, quesadillas and Guacamole. The Guacamole was decent although for $10 it really just was ok. The chips are thick and flavorless. The fajita steak and vegetables had no flavor. The steak was chewy and over cooked. The quesadillas ( I ordered the cheese and spinach) were too salty without other flavors to balance it out.
