We've driven past Matt's Rancho Martínez in Allen for the past five years and finally decided to give it a try today. Unfortunately, it ended up being a bit underwhelming for us. When we walked in, the restaurant was very loud. The tile floors and packed dining room made the acoustics pretty intense, so conversation at the table took some effort. It also took about five minutes for our waitress to initially greet us and take our drink order. That said, once she came by, she was extremely polite and attentive for the rest of our visit, which we appreciated. We ordered the half-pound fajitas, and those were definitely the highlight. They came out quickly, were well-cooked, and were more than enough for two people to share. Portion size was generous. One thing we noticed was the limited soft drink selection, though they do offer a large variety of alcoholic beverages. Overall, it was a decent experience, but nothing really wowed us on this visit. We're glad we finally tried it after all these years, but we're not sure it'll become a regular spot for us. read more

I went to Matt's for a Bunco party and was pretty impressed. They have a huge bar area with lots of TVs and seating. My group was about 40 people so we sat in the banquet room and enjoyed their excellent lineup of Happy Hour specials. I had the nachos which were loaded with ground beef, beans, cheese, guacamole, jalapeños and sour cream for $6 and bottled Budweisers for $3 until 7pm. Others got the taquitos, the loaded queso and all looked tasty. There was plenty of complementary chips and salsa for everyone and food and drinks were served quickly and at the proper temperature. The banquet room is quite large and features a HUGE TV, I'm guessing a 100 inch! Perfect to host a Super Bowl, National Championship or any other kind of watching party. Ate at Matt's on Friday 7/24/26. Delicious as it always is from the hot sauce to the guacamole to the cheese enchiladas with chili con carne to the Charro beans to the rice to the queso dip. I've been to Matt's a couple times now, it seems to be a favorite for locals. I describe it as Mexican comfort food I suppose. It's a typical Mexican restaurant, the flavors are good, they have excellent salsa and their specialty queso with guacamole and sour cream mixed in with some meat is very good. Overall the food is good, it's not amazing. And their service is a little inconsistent, but not bad all around. It's a very nice atmosphere, good ambience for a family style Mexican restaurant. It is definitely a Tex-Mex style, not an authentic style type restaurant. If you're looking for a place for decent food and nice casual dining, this is a great place. read more

My wife and I decided to try this restaurant, and unfortunately, we left wishing we hadn't. The menu and website heavily promote their famous queso, but it tasted like canned cheese sauce with oddly textured meat mixed in. The chips were grayish in color, lacked flavor, and seemed stale, as if they had been sitting out since lunch. I ordered the fajitas, which typically arrive sizzling on a hot skillet. Instead, they were served on a regular plate with thick, chewy pieces of meat. I'm not even convinced it was skirt steak as it was unusually thick and had the texture of a cheaper cut of beef. It was so tough that my jaw was getting sore trying to eat it. My wife ordered the enchiladas, and they seemed to use the same cheese sauce, with only small amounts of shredded cheese inside. Neither of us could eat any of our meals. Our waiter noticed that we had barely touched our food and asked if everything was okay. We explained that we weren't enjoying the food and why. Instead of addressing the issue, he quickly informed us that he had accidentally given our receipt to another table and asked us to pay their check instead because it was "basically the same amount." I wasn't comfortable paying someone else's bill since I had no way of knowing what our meal actually cost. When I asked if he could simply reprint our receipt, he said no and only showed me what he claimed was the correct receipt, which was about $2 different. The whole situation felt very strange and unprofessional. To top it off, this was around 7:00 PM on a Sunday, and there were only four tables occupied in the entire restaurant. We've been going to Matt's at various locations for years. Happy that this one in Allen is so close to us. We just had a 20th anniversary party there in one of their private rooms. From the initial discussion, working out space and menu details to preparation they were fantastic to work with. We had around 30 people in attendance and 2 servers to handle our group. Everything went perfectly. Food, drinks and service were top notch. If you want good Tex Mex this is your place. If you want to host an event this is your place. Just a perfect evening. One last thing... when you go, whether for dinner or an event, ask for Jayla and/or Daisy for server(s). They are simply great. We always ask for Daisy... just awesome. read more

We really enjoyed our lunch at Matt's Rancho Martinez Tex-Mex Restaurant! While we've been here for dinner a handful of times, this was our first time trying lunch, and it didn't disappoint. We sat in the bar area, where the natural light from the front windows gave it a more comfortable daytime feel than the main eating area. The restaurant's atmosphere features a themed décor that adds to the overall experience. Our waiter did well and even brought us our own pitcher of tea since we were especially thirsty! The chips and salsa are fresh and flavorful. For our meals, we each had enchiladas, and the flavors really stood out there as well. The chili con carne sauce is delicious! (Note that I did order sour cream sauce on one enchilada which I didn't get, and I didn't want to wait for a redo.) We drive 30 minutes to eat at Matt's. Both the service and the Tex-Mex platters of food are top tier. The margaritas must be amazing based on the number I saw being enjoyed. My go to for dinner is the Chile Relleno or a platter of their famous enchiladas. I get one of each (sour cream chicken, beef with chili and cheese with chili and onions.) The chicken fried steak is fork tender greatness as traditional with cream gravy or try some of their other option. Cowboy Style with chili and onions is my lunch order. My wife had salmon and my Tex Mex was ice cold obviously had just sat while hers was being cooked. I returned it for a new order. No one came by from management. I returned alone last summer and it was worst than before. The stuffed jalapenos were excellent . I had tacos carbon there were little dried out small cubes of meat and flour tortillas so brittle you couldn't fold' It was disgusting and obviously had just sat until it was ordered not cooked fresh.Again a complete lack of management and no quality control. We were celebrating two birthdays. I ordered a swirl margarita it comes out a regular no sangria. I explained it wasn't wasn't a swirl she said it has no sangria. One of those "Where should we eat?" evenings and decided on Matt's Rancho Martinez. Though not a fan of Tex-Mex, (Los Angeles native), we figured it must be good since it was the chain's 40th anniversary. We were nicely greeted and seated immediately. Delicious chips and salsa were served and after studying the menu, our order was a Deluxe dinner with an enchilada, tamale, taco, guacamole salad, rice and beans plus grilled tacos, rice and beans. Both meals were nothing special and although salty (had to drink water afterwards) there wasn't much tasty flavor. The guac salad was shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and a small scoop of guac. I ordered grilled brisket tacos because I had made crispy tacos a few days before and didn't want any more. I figured grilled tacos meant the tacos were warmed on the grill with some toasty brown spots on them. You can imagine my surprise when I was presented with 3 greasy fried tacos! I ordered the brisket tacos so I was sure it wasn't the meat that was supposed to be grilled. What was grilled? I had a chicken sour cream enchilada and a crispy beef taco. My wife had the lunch combo fajitas. Everything was pretty basic and nothing stood out. Chips and salsa was also okay. I see that they bring out too big to go bags. We were on our way to go to Ramen Hakata, but we saw this place and it looked like it was packed, so we were curious and wanted to investigate what type of restaurant. We went inside and asked the hostess and she told us it's a Tex-Mex and offered us to see the menu. We're not a fan of Tex-Mex, but what we saw looked decent, so we decided to try. We had Taylor as our server and he was very friendly/welcoming and helpful on suggestions and he was very prompt and attentive. Taylor brought us chips and salsa and the salsa was delicious and had a kick to it. I decided on Matt's fries and though I got to eat only a few(my partner ate it), it was delicious and I love fries. It was almost like fajita fries with lots of delicious seasoning. I asked Taylor for Ranch dressing to dip my fries and he brought me Chipotle Ranch which was phenomenal. My partner got Steak quesadilla with guacamole and sour cream on the side. Unfortunately, he wasn't too impressed with it(he's an extremely picky eater), but he ate it. He said that he felt that not the right type of cheese was used for quesadilla. I added Shrimp cocktails to my order and I thought it was very decent and there were lots of shrimp in it.
