We've driven past Matt's Rancho Martínez in Allen for the past five years and finally decided to give it a try today. Unfortunately, it ended up being a bit underwhelming for us. When we walked in, the restaurant was very loud. The tile floors and packed dining room made the acoustics pretty intense, so conversation at the table took some effort. It also took about five minutes for our waitress to initially greet us and take our drink order. That said, once she came by, she was extremely polite and attentive for the rest of our visit, which we appreciated. We ordered the half-pound fajitas, and those were definitely the highlight. They came out quickly, were well-cooked, and were more than enough for two people to share. Portion size was generous. One thing we noticed was the limited soft drink selection, though they do offer a large variety of alcoholic beverages. Overall, it was a decent experience, but nothing really wowed us on this visit. We're glad we finally tried it after all these years, but we're not sure it'll become a regular spot for us. read more

I've been to Matt's a couple times now, it seems to be a favorite for locals. I describe it as Mexican comfort food I suppose. It's a typical Mexican restaurant, the flavors are good, they have excellent salsa and their specialty queso with guacamole and sour cream mixed in with some meat is very good. Overall the food is good, it's not amazing. And their service is a little inconsistent, but not bad all around. It's a very nice atmosphere, good ambience for a family style Mexican restaurant. It is definitely a Tex-Mex style, not an authentic style type restaurant. If you're looking for a place for decent food and nice casual dining, this is a great place. read more

Nothing wowed me, and there are so many other more tasty Mexican restaurants in DFW to eat. Thick chips and meh salsa. My mahi tacos were a nice cut of meat but all my food was cold. It was a Monday night, but we were the only table in the restaurant, which is huge. Sadly, Not a fan!!! read more

We love Matt's and go quite often and the food is decent. There are a couple of menu items like the Ranch Salad that stand out but enchiladas are top notch. We've been going to Matt's at various locations for years. Happy that this one in Allen is so close to us. We just had a 20th anniversary party there in one of their private rooms. From the initial discussion, working out space and menu details to preparation they were fantastic to work with. We had around 30 people in attendance and 2 servers to handle our group. Everything went perfectly. Food, drinks and service were top notch. If you want good Tex Mex this is your place. If you want to host an event this is your place. Just a perfect evening. We really enjoyed our lunch at Matt's Rancho Martinez Tex-Mex Restaurant! While we've been here for dinner a handful of times, this was our first time trying lunch, and it didn't disappoint. We sat in the bar area, where the natural light from the front windows gave it a more comfortable daytime feel than the main eating area. The restaurant's atmosphere features a themed décor that adds to the overall experience. Our waiter did well and even brought us our own pitcher of tea since we were especially thirsty! The chips and salsa are fresh and flavorful. For our meals, we each had enchiladas, and the flavors really stood out there as well. The chili con carne sauce is delicious! (Note that I did order sour cream sauce on one enchilada which I didn't get, and I didn't want to wait for a redo.) The queso was ok but the beef fajitas were the worst fajitas I've ever had. I've never seen or tasted fajitas like that. I took my leftovers home but didn't end up eating it. We drive 30 minutes to eat at Matt's. Both the service and the Tex-Mex platters of food are top tier. The margaritas must be amazing based on the number I saw being enjoyed. My go to for dinner is the Chile Relleno or a platter of their famous enchiladas. I get one of each (sour cream chicken, beef with chili and cheese with chili and onions.) The chicken fried steak is fork tender greatness as traditional with cream gravy or try some of their other option. Cowboy Style with chili and onions is my lunch order. It breaks my heart to write this. In fact I held off until I saw current reviews with same experience. I have followed Matt's for 20+ years and drove 25 miles just to eat in both Lakewood locations and was thrilled when their second attempt in Allen opened. My wife and I had dinner soon after they reopened and very obviously a red flag that there was no management in the kitchen. My wife had salmon and my Tex Mex was ice cold obviously had just sat while hers was being cooked. I returned it for a new order. No one came by from management. I returned alone last summer and it was worst than before. The stuffed jalapenos were excellent . I had tacos carbon there were little dried out small cubes of meat and flour tortillas so brittle you couldn't fold' It was disgusting and obviously had just sat until it was ordered not cooked fresh.Again a complete lack of management and no quality control. Best happy hour in Allen! As of 2025, it's $5 nachos and margaritas from 3-6 Monday to Friday. This is classic Tex Mex in big comfortable booths. I've always found their servers to be nice and some of them have been there for years. read more

Valentine's night, very few customers in a very large space, Food was OK but I suspect the super tender chicken fried steak was a fried hamburger patty which, for me at least, is a huge no-no. We were celebrating two birthdays. I ordered a swirl margarita it comes out a regular no sangria. I explained it wasn't wasn't a swirl she said it has no sangria. Mistake #2 my mom and I ordered the chili relleno. The plate was cold the food was cold. This place is not worth the drive, the Galand location much better. One of those "Where should we eat?" evenings and decided on Matt's Rancho Martinez. Though not a fan of Tex-Mex, (Los Angeles native), we figured it must be good since it was the chain's 40th anniversary. We were nicely greeted and seated immediately. Delicious chips and salsa were served and after studying the menu, our order was a Deluxe dinner with an enchilada, tamale, taco, guacamole salad, rice and beans plus grilled tacos, rice and beans. Both meals were nothing special and although salty (had to drink water afterwards) there wasn't much tasty flavor. The guac salad was shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and a small scoop of guac. I ordered grilled brisket tacos because I had made crispy tacos a few days before and didn't want any more. I figured grilled tacos meant the tacos were warmed on the grill with some toasty brown spots on them. You can imagine my surprise when I was presented with 3 greasy fried tacos! I ordered the brisket tacos so I was sure it wasn't the meat that was supposed to be grilled. What was grilled? I'm two days late posting this review. Went here for lunch on a Thursday at around 1:00 PM. Service was quick and I ordered the No. 2 Enchilada and Taco lunch special. I had a chicken sour cream enchilada and a crispy beef taco. My wife had the lunch combo fajitas. Everything was pretty basic and nothing stood out. Chips and salsa was also okay. I see that they bring out too big to go bags. They give one to another gentleman that was waiting and totally ignore me and so after five minutes, I finally go up and I say excuse me is that my order over there sitting in plain sight. I told her I've been waiting. She just hands it to me. No apologies no nothing. I guess I could've been there half hour before someone noticed. When I heard "The food tastes like it's been reheated and the tortillas feel rubbery " I knew there was a problem. I continued on, because I've never ever been disappointed in anything I've had at Matt's. The waiter was very very slow in getting anything to us. We were on our way to go to Ramen Hakata, but we saw this place and it looked like it was packed, so we were curious and wanted to investigate what type of restaurant. We went inside and asked the hostess and she told us it's a Tex-Mex and offered us to see the menu. We're not a fan of Tex-Mex, but what we saw looked decent, so we decided to try. We had Taylor as our server and he was very friendly/welcoming and helpful on suggestions and he was very prompt and attentive. Taylor brought us chips and salsa and the salsa was delicious and had a kick to it. I decided on Matt's fries and though I got to eat only a few(my partner ate it), it was delicious and I love fries. It was almost like fajita fries with lots of delicious seasoning. I asked Taylor for Ranch dressing to dip my fries and he brought me Chipotle Ranch which was phenomenal. My partner got Steak quesadilla with guacamole and sour cream on the side. Unfortunately, he wasn't too impressed with it(he's an extremely picky eater), but he ate it. He said that he felt that not the right type of cheese was used for quesadilla. I added Shrimp cocktails to my order and I thought it was very decent and there were lots of shrimp in it. We've been going to Matt's for a really long time and we still love it. On Tuesday's they have a special where you can order from the lunch menu all day long. The food is always delicious and fresh. My favorites are the "Bob Armstrong Dip" for appetizer and the "PO BOY Bowl" for lunch or dinner. No matter what you order it will be fresh and delicious. read more

Cold chips, tacos Al Carbon very tough and the tortilla was crispy and not good, pointed it out to the bartender/ waiter (no other staff in bar area) and ask for good tort.... same thing. Told the wife I was done and went to pay, ask why we had no reward points and got the run around yet again. We have spent easily $1500 in the last year and still crickets? A third or more of the tables were waiting to be bussed, I'm sure it's due to staffing issues as there were only to girls trying to wait on all the tables. Tried the bob dip it was lacking that kick I like but was still good. The super burrito with double rice and no beans I probably wouldn't order again kinda overpriced for what you get. The food is probably more in the 3.5-4.5 range but the service was exceptional for a Friday with a good crowd. We were sat in an outside area that has been covered and just as good as inside.
