He explained that because the citrus trees had not been taken care of in the past few years, he would prune the branches to open up the tree and would periodically come back to prune further in order to not shock the tree. Since I was not sure if there would be additional charges for the additional pruning, I emailed the company to ask and was not given a definitive answer. John said that when he was in my area, he would take a look at the trees and do additional pruning which I believe would have been part of the original charge, but I could be wrong about that. A down payment was made of 10%, a date was set. The crew showed up on time and trimmed the two acacia trees with no problems. However, the citrus trees were opened up but one of the trees was left long and two others were left too wide. John was contacted and was told how the job came out. When John came out to treat the acacia trees as planned no one was home, but nothing more was done on the citrus trees. He did not contact us to explain why the citrus trees were left as they were or if he would be coming back at a later date to do additional pruning or if there would be an additional charge if he did. John led us to believe he was going to personally prune the trees which did not happen.

Ten minutes later I get a TEXT saying they don't service my area of Tucson. Sorry. Wait... so on the 14th, they took down my name, number, address, and TOLD me that they scheduled me in. They never called back and said sorry, we don't schedule that area--even though they knew the address. The text response is so bush league. Are we 18 years old and breaking up? You're running a business that doesn't even have an email contact. You need to call. Clearly they were scared about the scolding they expected to receive, but really, they don't deserve that level of emotional response. Really pathetic, Romeo. Get your employees' shit together. It's making you look like you don't know what you're doing, even if you know a lot about trees.

From the consultation to finishing the job, the whole crew were wonderful. We received 3 independent quotes and Made in the Shade stood out for many reasons. Their partnership with the Tucson Zoo to take African Sumac branches to feeding the animals, their polite nature, their wealth of information, and patience while answering my many, many questions. Every single member of their crew involved in the job were polite, wonderful, and had a great sense of humor. They were incredibly thoughtful in their work, being respectful of our home, and went above and beyond with taking care to work around our grumpy desert tortoise. They removed a large palm tree, a stubborn olive tree stump, an African sumac, and a cypress. These trees were either dying, causing damage to retaining walls, or potential threats if fallen over in a storm. After the crew came out it doesn't even look like any of these plants were there. I hired Horticulture Unlimited in September 2020 for landscape maintenance. As experts they…read moreprescribed quarterly maintenance paying $125/visit and pre-emergent weed control at $195/application. I agreed with their proposal entirely as written (attached photo) with service beginning in October 2020 (attached photo) and continuing quarterly so in January 2021, April 2021, July 2021 etc. In July 2021 they billed me (attached photo) for service I didn't receive. When I contacted Andrew on Monday 8/9 he said he would have a crew out Thursday 8/12 or Friday 8/13. I never heard back from them after 8/9. Note: This review has been revised as the owner's initial reaction asserted that I did not elect for pre-emergent herbicide, so I added the contract and receipts showing I did elect for that. Bottom line if you are looking for reliable automatic hassle-free landscape maintenance this is not for you. They may do a fine job if you have time to keep after them.
