Top Notch came out in an emergency on a Friday at 4:30 PM when I was informed by my HVAC tech during a routine cleaning that my chimney liner collapsed; therefore, I had no heat or hot water. Top Notch was the ONLY company that would come out immediately and he didn't gouge me in price. I had one chimney company say that they'd charge emergency service fees for a Saturday visit. Marc the owner was honest and helpful in explaining the cause of the problem along with the solution to fix and the fees. Bait and switch company, avoid them. I was referred to Top Notch by my roofer when I had a new roof installed last year. Called them for a chimney cleaning and the office person said they were having a special at $125.00. Fine, we set up a date. Their tech arrived and comes into the house without any equipment, tarps, etc - which is my usual experience. He claims that he first has to inspect the chimney to confirm it can be cleaned. I'm feeling the hairs on my neck... I had the chimney cleaned in 2024 and it's now 2026, I used about 1/2 cord in 2025. He tells me the creosote build-up is significant and presents a fire hazard and starts babbling on about costs to clean using some chemical - a real line of nonsense - he's saying usual cost per bucket is $275 but he can give it to me for $175 and on and on... so I listen for about 15 minutes and then ask him nicely - can you just clean my chimney. He responds - No. It's a fire hazard and must be chemically cleaned. Next he wants to see my furnace flue which I show him and he goes into a lengthy diatribe about this requiring a stainless steel liner, blah, blah, blah... In sum, he gave me a quote for $1,300 to "clean" the creosote buildup from the chimney; a cost of $13,000 for the new stainless steel insert for my boiler flue. I kept it above board and thanked him for his time, then went and called the firm I had clean my chimney two years ago who cleaned it and told me all was fine. Marc and Frank were amazing to work with. The issue was identified by plumber who caught venting problem with hot water heater. Upon inspection of chimney we identified the broken cement and loose bricks requiring rebuild. There was an old aluminum liner in the chimney which was bent at the bottom vs using proper T junction and had improper vent routing for hot water heater and HVAC. Job was done in one day and could not be happier with how it turned out. Job included a full chimney rebuild with new bricks and stainless steel cap, new stainless steel liner and venting in basement for hot water heater and HVAC. Just an amazing job and Top Notch Chimney they left me with. On a side note and I can't explain this but the shower water temperatures got better after this work was done as before the hot water was fighting itself to breath on start up and even started to back flow. It literally came out like artwork the chimney. Love the one piece cap too as it was two caps before. Pricing was incredibly fair and frankly I thought it would've been more expensive to do this or I would've had this done sooner just to have this beautiful chimney. Thanks again guys!!!! read more

I was thrilled with the results of this company's work. I live in a 1756 house that had a very challenging boiler hook-up to a chimney liner with access through a small crawlspace with rock ledge. Five years ago, I had had another company install a liner which failed inspection. Of course that company disappeared. Many others refused to do the work. Recently referred by another reputable company, Top Notch Chimney agreed to take on fixing my difficult situation. After two days of hard, dirty work, the job was done. Kevin, Nick, and Mario were terrific. They met every request I made. My wife and I have had some unwelcome visitors the last couple of years in one of our two chimneys - Chimney Swifts, so we decided the get a chimney cap. Simple solution, right? Not so fast. We had numerous contractors come to our house and they either indicated that they could not access our chimney because of our steep roof or the chimney's hight from the ground, which was approximately 40 feet to the top, and/or because of the slope of the ground. It was very frustrating. Recently, we received a recommendation from a trusted contractor that we try Top Notch Chimney. Problem solved. We set up and appointment and Frank and Raul came out, assessed our situation, and provided a bid, which was very reasonable, so we accepted it. Frank and Raul came out a couple of days later and completed the work in a few hours by installing an amazing chimney cap, which perfectly matched the color of the exterior of our house. They also installed a screen, which was invisible to the eye, in the stack of our other chimney, as it was possible, if not likely, that the Chimney Swifts would migrate to our other chimney. Johnny and Dennis from Top Notch Chimney included unnecessary work in their quote and stated how complex it was to simply repair 3 levels of bricks. "we have to setup scaffolding, tarps, drop clothes and use high strength mortar" to repoint 3 level of bricks. I hired another firm and they were able to do it for 2.5 times less that what Top Notch was quoting. Additionally, they falsely stated that the top fireplace flue has cracks. I hired another for for a second opinion who stated that everything was acceptable to use and repointing bricks was simple and could be done in a hour or two. As a homeowner, I would recommend getting second opinions to validate if Top Notch Construction scope of work is actually necessary and/or excessively marked up in profit. It could be they are trying to take advantage of a less informed homeowner if you don't ask around. Being fully informed when dealing with Top Notch Construction is advisable since it could be 2.5 times less what they are quoting. read more

( regularly $115 ) They look down the chimney and said there was a lot of creosote (stage 2) and it would cost an additional $850 to use a chemical mixture to clean it. I am extremely pleased with the work Diego and Jeorge completed on my chimney! They swept my chimney fireplace and did an excellent job especially since the chimney had not been swept for years. The work was a long, complicated task. Diego made me aware that the lining of the chimney had deteriorated and was dangerous. Fortunately, Diego and Jeorge were able to reline the chimney with stainless steel safety pipe that same day. They also installed a stainless steel cap on the chimney top to stop birds and animals from entering. This company installed a liner in my chimney a few years back. I bought a Groupon chimney cleaning for $40.00 and when I called to schedule they said it would be an additional $135.00 because I have a wood or pellet stove. No where in the fine print of the Groupon deal does it say anything about this, the only restriction was that you had to be within a 50 mile radius. They said that it's Groupon's fault for not have the disclaimer. I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS COMPANY AS THIS IS CLEARLY A BAIT AND SWITCH! When I asked about the lifetime warranty that is stated on my receipt from them they told me they can't find my address or name in their system even though I have a canceled check and receipt from them so they won't honor the warranty! read more

Top-Notch visited my home and quoted me a wood fireplace insert install (wood fireplace insert and SS chimney liner). When the install was scheduled to start, they arrived and told me my manufacturer-supplied chimney liner was insufficient. Top-Notch tried to upsell me their chimney liner that they happened to have on their truck for $1500.00. I declined. After they left, I had local companies evaluate the job, and all said that my equipment was perfect. One of the companies installed my supplied components at half the original quoted cost of Top Notch. I wouldn't recommend Top Notch. They are dishonest and looking for the big payday. read more

Kevin was fine to deal with. I just needed a chimney cleaning but come to find out my chimney was rusted so they had to install a stainless steel pipe and cap which obviously cost more than I anticipated (the joys of home ownership) but compared to other places it was a better price and the work was done fairly quickly. My issue is not with the work. I paid with credit card and instead of swiping it they wrote it down (I should have known) turns out I've had fraudulent charges on my card $1000+ specifically from Bridgeport, CT In this day and age Top Notch should have a more secure way of capturing payment information as it appears my credit card number on the paper was compromised and Top Notch is the source according to my credit card company this is being investigated. I have used them every year to clean my chimney, but missed doing this during Covid. When they arrived they found a dangerous situation, a crack/hole in the fireplace wall. The gentleman gave me several options including just sealing it up and not using it. I opted to have the work done immediately. The price was more than fair, I feel safe in my house, and they left everything clean and tidy. Extremely professional. They even tolerated my dogs! I scheduled my appointment a month ago for this November 23rd. On the morning of I recive a call that they will be at my premises between 10-1. At about 12:30 this woman calls to ask if they can come out between 2-4 instead. I explained to her that I had taken the day off for this particular appointment aside from other errands I had to run and agreed on making the appointment for 4:00 pm instead. Well, I got back from the DMV just in time to meet with this so called company. To my disappointment, I waited and waited. They were a no call no show! To say the least, they lost out on some clientele I was going to hook them up with from the hospital. It was a matter of me giving my nurses some positive feed back to which there were none. They arrived within the designated time window and while I thought they were just here to assess things to begin, they actually identified what needed to be done and said they could do it immediately the same day! They also provided a great price and got to work right away. We not only needed cleaning but to reline the oil flue and add ceramic cement. We are new owners of this property and there were some issues so the fact that they took care of us so quickly, considering we didn't know how much needed to be done, and for a great price (discount if you pay in cash) we could not be happier. First they gave me a hard time and told me they would not clean the chimney, were rude and bullying, then they changed their minds and cleaned it, but would only do one flu for the groupon. Then they told me I needed an emergency liner in the flu they would not clean, it would cost $1500 and they would do it right there as they had the pipe in the truck. I said I would wait and they told me my house might give everyone CO poisoning. I had a second opinion with a reputable company who simply cleaned the flu (the one that needed the emergency liner) and they told me no liner was needed and it was totally fine......Hmmmmmmmmmm wasted time, worry, and $50.....AND THEY ALMOST GOT ME FOR $1500!!!!! read more

I took advantage of a coupon where-as Top Notch would clean my chimney for only 95.00...When they arrived and within 5 minutes I was told my chimney was dangerous had broken tiles and damage and gave me an estimate of 1350.00 to repair it..They offered a process that would line the inside of chimney with a special liquid cement..I told the guy that I needed to think it over. After a few days I called in our local fire marshall to inspect my chimney only to learn that it was in good condition and did not n repair.. That inspection saved me 1350.00. read more

I responded to a 95$ special for summer chimney sweeping, and when they got here they said there was a nest in the chimney. Fair enough but then they said a nest removal and cleaning would be $400! Like it's rocket science to remove a bird nest. But even more outrageous the guy sent to do the work tells me the bricks are so old that a cleaning wouldn't do any good as it would chip the old brick. This was when we were at 95$. But after mentioning the $400 price tag suddenly it would apparently do good to sweep the chimney. Bottom line is the company uses deception by putting out a special that gets them into houses and then they tell you this and that to bring you right back to their desired price of 400$ per house. They must really screw old old people who won't even know if they're lying. Don't use this company. read more

Bought a "Cleaning" from Groupon for $45.00 and it was downhill from there. They scheduled out about two months then a day before tried to reschedule! They did show up on time and the cleaning consisted of vacuuming the fireplace of the ash from Thanksgiving (a week before) then proceed to say we needed a lining for $1100.00 and a cap for $250.00. I never saw them clean the chimney and they do carry a ladder to get up and really check the chimney. They were friendly & courteous. My son had them the same day and they did not clean the fireplace until we asked to have the acorns vacuumed up For this house it was in need of a flue damper repair and some other work. Again no real cleaning. Looks like they take your $45.00 and then spend 15 minutes trying to sell other stuff - No pressure from them just telling you what is needed. i will get other Free Estimates from local chimney people and see how it compares. read more

Scheduled twice with them and nobody ever showed up. The first time I was waiting all day and I had to call to see what was going on. The were "tied up at another job" and couldn't come til later so I rescheduled after waiting from 11-2 for someone to show up. Rescheduled- again stayed home all day , even rushed home from a walk on the beach with my kids to be home by 11 (again an 11-2 time frame given). Nobody showed up- I called at 2 and was told that someone would be there between 230-3 and got another "sorry, the technician was tied up." Called at 330, 4, 430- no answers and I left voicemails. Very disappointed. Had a Groupon for a chimney cleaning for $45. They arrived on time and proceeded to "clean" chimney. Cleaning apparently was done from the inside and vacuuming of the ash within the fireplace vs up the chimney. Individual left a quote for a full liner needed, re pointing of top 20 or so layers of brick on chimney and Do Not Use fireplace notation. My wife was surprised because we had it repointed a few years ago and a new chimney top/cap had been placed on it. I asked her how he cleaned it and he had never went on the roof and never inserted anything very long into the chimney. When my wife questioned why the flue needed to be replaced with a liner the individual went to the truck and pulled out a piece of mortar from the vacuum he had used and said this was an example of issue. It appeared to me to be a possible piece of mortar from the chimney capping process that had fell into the flue. We had another local chimney contractor look at the chimney without saying anything about our situation and the first comment was that it needs a cleaning. He only looked through the bottom up through the flu. We explained the above and he did not agree with the repointing need but did not comment on the liner need and said we should clean it as it hadn't been "cleaned". Rob and Bob came out and gave me a good price to fix my leaky chimneys, and fixed them on the spot. They were leaking into my fireplaces. Also gave me a 10 yr warranty on the repair. Rob was amazingly polite, professional and helpful even after he was done with the repair he explained some other things that I was unaware of. Seems breaking appointments with their customers is a very common occurrence. Wasted a whole day waiting for them to come, and they called me a day before to confirm the time too. Waited for them to show in the morning, then called them, and was told to wait out the afternoon. Nothing, not even a call back to apologize. The company should really change their name from Top Notch to No Show. read more

Very disappointed with this company. I won't call them back for future work. Kevin came to my house for a cleaning which is $80. It turned out I apparently had to pay extra, then I had to pay for a new cap. Which I didn't want the one he just ripped off back on. So a cleaning turned into $400!! Very disappointed with that. I then was told I had to get a chemical sprayed into my chimney because the concrete was coming off. He quoted me for $1,250.00. I received a call from Kevin saying if he came 1 particular afternoon he would only charge $1,000. I wasn't able to have it done the day of that offer. He cane a few days later to do the chimney spray. I asked Kevin if he would still do it for $1,000. He told me no it had to be that day because he was in a "competition" with someone else. To tell a customer this, I think is mind blowing. Kevin could have obviously done it for $1,000 but wanted to make extra money. Not to mention he leaned his dirty hands on my white wall and didn't even clean it. Will never be using top notch again, I will also never recommend them to anyone. Whoever hired Kevin should look a little closer at his work and lack of customer service. read more
