I have been wanting a fireplace wood burning insert for years, my wife finally gave in and I got the green light. After getting quotes from a few companies I went to TCC in Milford and felt very comfortable with Steve. He gave me a run down of every detail and included the pros and cons and what to expect from my stove. 1st off they arrived on time and we very professional Rob the lead mechanic took over from there and proceeded to prep the area for install. Mike and Frankie were working on the new flue and before I knew it they were done and I was looking at a stove. I could not recommend them more than I could say. Their work is decent, if a little over-priced. However, they are really bad at managing call backs. We had a situation where they did the work, but the town said they needed a permit pulled, and were completely willing to have that done after the fact so they could actually do the inspection. However for more than two months Total Chimney Care sat on the paperwork. Since they seldom pick up the phone, it is still impossible to find out what is going on. I had a great experience with this company. They came recommended through a Milford Facebook page and so I went to Yelp to check reviews. I was surprised to see the negative comments but appreciated that the owner took the time to comment after each one. The guys showed up early for our morning apt to clean our chimney and give us an estimate on some brick work. They were quick, efficient and helpful in answering our questions. I wish I could remember their names but the one who looked at the chimney that needs repair came up with a good low cost option for us to consider. We live in a good size condo, and have had issues with our chimney for years. It has a very strange set up for the flue. The guy who came out to clean and inspect our set up was Frankie. He was amazing! He was able to help us understand what was going on, and cleaned the flue for us. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and incredibly patient with all of my questions. We have a 3 lb dog, and he was so considerate of her. Especially since she's easy to get underfoot. I do hope Frankie is the tech they send out the next time. They were easy to schedule, on time, and clean. I will be scheduling them going forward for yearly cleanings. read more

Was disappointed in the service received. The two gentlemen, who arrived, were nice people, but they rushed through the entire cleaning process, which lead to some problems. The biggest being that after inspecting the chimney, they began the cleaning process without sealing with plastic, tape, or other material on the bottom of the chimney (or any of the chimneys serviced for that matter), so all of the soot and particulate shot throughout the house. My family and I had severe coughing fits and you could see the soot plumes as it spread around. The older gentleman later claimed that the chimney door seal was not good, but wouldn't that have been determined after doing an initial inspection for a first-time customer (which they did initially inspect!)? Next, the chimney to my stove and its connecting pipe were taken apart for cleaning. Again, this was rushed. The guys dropped a few screws and didn't bother replacing them on the pipe that connected to the chimney. Although they put the pipe back together, they didn't bother to realign it. Because I was disappointed with the quality of the service, I ended up refitting, realigning, and screwing together the pipe myself. I found the screws lying on the floor right next to the stove. It also didn't help that the guys were in such a rush to make it another appointment that they left behind some of their tools, so they had to return twice to pick them up--nice guys, but the quality of work and sloppiness doesn't help. Also, not to lecture, but creosote and other byproducts of furnaces/fire places are well-documented to cause cancer and other maladies. The employees, who worked at my place, never wore any sort of PPE during their work. Ultimately, it's up to the employees to do what they want, but this is extremely unwise with OSHA recommendations. read more

I used Total Chimney Care to have a fireplace chimney flue cleaned. They accommodated the date I wanted, were prompt, neat, and did a thorough job. While onsite they checked the oil boiler flue and I had them clean it for a nominal fee. Pricing was fair and the service good. I would certainly recommend them. read more

It was a cold snap in October and finally decided to turn on the heat in the house - it wouldn't turn on! Called the HVAC company who services my heater and they came out and told me the unit was fine but the chimney had a large birds nest and thats why the heater wouldn't fire up. They gave a try at clearing it but said they were not able to suggested I call an actual chimney company. Called around in the 50 mile radius area everyone was booked weeks out past Thanksgiving - left a lot of messages that some didn't return for days! When I spoke with Total Chimney Care (a real person picked up!) they were going to try to squeeze me in the next day or so if they got a cancellation because they were already working overtime due to the demand. Then the unbelievable happened! My phone rang, and the schedule coordinator at Total Chimney Care asked her crew to start early the next day so they could get my heat on! They came 1st thing, after working diligently trying a few different methods cleared the chimney and they stayed until we tested it - my heat started right up! Polite, knowledgeable and efficient crew that were on-time and reasonably priced and outstanding above and beyond customer service! I just wish every service industry took a page from their book! I'm not happy with their service. They were supposed to arrive between 12-4 and they were supposed to call first. What I got was a call at 3:50 that they've been waiting and that they wait for me but when I got there 15 min later they were gone. I left a message wit the co. And they took 6 days to get back to me. They had no idea why I called or that I had an appointment. When I explained what happened I was told to call a plumber. I was like, what!? What does that have to do with anything. They said they can't service my unit. All I can say is WTF. You said when you made the appointment you could and Now you're saying you can't. I have used this company for years and been happy with their service. Unfortunately, they seem to have descended into chaos. I scheduled service a week ago, but the crew went to the wrong house, and never showed up at the right address. I rescheduled for next week, now they are supposedly on their way, but will be about two hours outside the window in which they were supposed to show up. The worst. Engaged them to repair my chimney including repointing and flashing work. Workmen showed for less than four hours, made a complete mess of the small portion they "partially repaired,"admitted they "missed" half of the chimney, with the primary worker claiming he needed to leave because his knees hurt. He then asked me for an additional $500 beyond the $500 deposit towards the remainder of the contract. I refused and called the owner asking him to come to my home in New Haven to see first hand the unacceptable work. He said that he was too busy. I left messages on his answering machines with no response, and finally faxed him demanding my deposit back. Still no response. I subsequently engaged a competent company to repair their damage and complete the project. I also have pictures of before the repair of the chimney, their shoddy work, and the ultimate repair by people who couldn't believe how bad Total Chimney's work was. They'll be posted on FaceBook I expect to take additional action, and have posted this response to hopefully protect other potential consumers from a similar situation. Be forewarned. I was having my chimney cleaned by someone else for years. But when I had a chimney fire, I decided I'd better find another sweep. Total Care was on time, clean, professional, and evaluated my chimney from top to bottom. They even checked the boiler and the vent flue in the basement, to be double sure things were in order. Horrible experience. It took calling several times to get a quote. When I was finally quoted, I questioned the labor rate of $400 and the office indicated it was about a 2 person, half day job, to install new parts for a gas vented fireplace (damaged from recent storms). Only slightly below average service thus far. I had siding damage as well which the sider informed me that the vent needed to be installed prior to fixing the siding. Total Chimney was adamant the siding needed to be installed first. After much back and forth, and after getting the siding installed first, they came out to do the vent and the first thing they said was that the siders needed to come back when they finished with the vent! Exactly why the sider said the vent needed to be first! After all that, they finished the job in about 45 minutes. When I questioned the $400 labor charge, they told me "It's by the job" and "you didn't have to use us if you thought we were expensive". This whole fiasco was with their technician, Ed. The other technician, Mike, was very nice and helpful, which is the only reason they are getting 1 star. read more

Absolutely the worst chimney Company I had here! The guy was rude tried to sell me a chimney liner that was not needed for over $2000, with the idea that its a fire and carbon monoxide hazard. I used this company approximately 3 times over the years ranging from a complete chimney rebuild to having two liners installed. I recently had them out to inspect my chimney, but because of the bad weather, they only looked at the inside and had to come back to do the outside inspection. That's when things went downhill. When they didn't call me back, I called them and the person in charge told me that they had to inspect the inside again, totally contradicting what the tech told me. I told him what I was told by his employee and he asked me who was it. I said that he should be able to tell me that by looking up my address/account and he said that wasn't computerized and he had no idea who was there and got short with me and said if you want us to do a proper job we need to be able to go inside (again). Because the house was a pending sale, I needed this inspection and repair ASAP. We agreed to a day the following week. That day came and I heard nothing from them. I contacted them and the same guy tells me he sent a guy over there on the weekend to inspect it. (So much for having to see the inside again or notifying me of this) I told him there was no written estimate left at the house. He tells me he will call me back the "first thing" the next day and of course he doesn't call me back. I then callled the next two days and left messages for him to call and he never does. To say the business is poorly managed would be an understatement. This guy who identified himself as the President doesn't seem to have a clue as to which employee went to my place and of course says he will call back with information and never does. I rate them a zero. This was the worst experience I ever had with any company I had dealt with in my entire life. read more

I had a very good experience. Ed and Allen we friendly and knowledgeable. I have been having problems with the draw on my chimney since I moved in this house 5 years ago. I typically would smoke out the house every time I made a fire. They suggested that I change the damper to a lock top which is larger than the one I had in there. I called Total Chimney Care and spoke to the owner to inquire about basic cleaning services and to get a quote. I clearly stated that I had two (2) fire places, one upstairs and one down. The guy was nice and explained what to expect for a basic cleaning and and told me the job would cost $149.99. Based on some other searches, this price seemed fair and so I booked an appointment. Two guys arrived a few days later who were also nice. They started with the upstairs fireplace and used a big shopvac to clean it out. This took 10 minutes- mostly due to the fact that it was in pretty good shape, even though we have wood-burning fires often. When the guys were done, they asked if I wanted to clean the bottom one too- to which I said, "Of course- isn't that what I'm paying for?". The guys informed me that it was $149.99 for one fireplace, and an additional $99 for another. This is NOT what was explained to me when I called and made my appointment and I felt completely mislead. After 10 minutes of work, I was expected to spend another 99? I called their office immediately to clarify what was going on with the pricing and the secretary said there must have been "miscommunication" and that my appointment was for one fireplace. I was able to negotatiate the price a little lower to have the second firepalce cleaned. The guys were here for a total of 35 minutes. While the job was done well, I was very disappointed to be mislead by the owner who I spoke to a few days earlier. FIrst impressions go a long way and when you call to get a quote, you expect it to be accurate! read more
