I have been getting my acrylic nails consistently since I was 15 because I have a pretty bad nail biting habit. This used to be the only nail salon in the area, and I would go my freshman/sophomore year at Tech. Every time I went, my nails would fall off within one week of getting them done. They would always tell me its because the nail underneath is short, but I know that's not the case....It never happens anywhere else. They already charge a lot compared to other places, but you'd think the service would be great considering the price. I stopped going there 1 year ago because the coworkers would argue in front of the customers; I'm assuming it's a family business, but it would be so awkward!! The last time I went, the lady forgot I was waiting to get my nails done even tho I was sitting in the waiting chair.... I left the salon after an hour and a half that day. When one of the ladies that used to work there, Kim, opened her nail salon on Prices Fork, I started going to her instead. She's amazing and I'm so glad she left. The only thing is you need to have an appointment to see her, but she's still great and so sweet! It gives Blacksburg other options instead of feeling obligated to go to Top Nails. The people here are so rude, unprofessional and the services are overpriced. Recently, I have also been going to the nail salon in New River Valley Mall and this is the winner. They are quick, kind and so professional! Not to mention way cheaper. Today I did not have time to make it to the mall, and so I went to Top Nails instead because I was on a time crunch. Worse decision ever. I picked out my color, sat down and patiently waited for someone to acknowledge me. When the guy called me, he literally yelled across the room at me, "Fill!". Instead of politely asking me to sit in the chair, he pointed at the chair and called me over by my "service" of choice. I silently walked over to an employee's station She began by removing the color from my nails and started working on them. She was using the wrong tools, which I noticed, and then she finally figured it out and switched the tool to the right one to shave down the acrylic nail. Here's the best part!!!!! She didn't hold my finger properly and ran the tool over my skin and it sliced my finger open. I was in complete tears and so shocked. She just looked up at me and said sorry. It was so awkward. I grabbed my stuff, got up and walked out. The cut bled underneath my nail. I was too embarrassed to stay and cry in front of them.
I guess it's my fault for going back. Never again. read more
