Couldn't decide if I wanted to update my review after several years of pleasant service but I've decide that Kim has acted incredibly unprofessional. My mother and I have been patronizing Kim's establishment for a long time (and we were clients of hers before she opened her own business) and we've overlooked some of the more irksome things Kim has done. She has ~multiple~ times, double booked time slots and insisted each time that WE are the ones at fault; I know she has done this to others because she will gossip about clients while you are there. She also has a tendency to talk so much she'll forget the time and have to rush to finish your nails because she'll have another appointment coming. But this last time really irritated me. My mom went and had a pedicure done and when she was checking out and was receiving her change, thought she had handed Kim a 20 originally not a 10 (so she thought she needed more change) when she brought it up to Kim, Kim's says no you handed me a 10 so my mom says my mistake and apologizes (she did not argue, she brought it up once and then apologized when Kim said no). A couple weeks later she calls to make another appointment and Kim says she doesn't think my mom should come to her anymore. Are you serious!? I am leaving my review at 3 stars instead of 1 because despite Kim's unprofessionalism, she is good at what she does, she just really should invest in hiring some help. read more

Kim's nails is the absolute best place in Blacksburg to go for your nails. Kim does all the nails herself in the salon, and she is so personable. I came in once a year ago and she remembered my name and where I work and all that. Kim is so sweet and she does nails so perfectly! She tends to do acrylic nails thin, which makes them look super natural, but I've never had a problem with them breaking off. Her prices are very reasonable, especially considering how much the other places in town charge. Definitely go here and support Kim! read more

If you want your nails done, Kim is your girl! You do have to make an appointment because she runs the place by herself, but I called minutes before and she was able to pencil me in. I have only gotten a gel manicure from her, but she is meticulous and took her time, not rushing through any step of the process. She is genuinely interested in knowing your name, and will talk your ear off if you let her! (which is totally understandable, if I were running a salon on my own I would want someone to talk to!) The only reason this isn't a 5 is because I was waiting about 20 minutes for her to finish up a pedicure, while I sat with my hands in a heater softening my cuticles, her facility could have been a little more clean, and she knicked my ring finger (but profusely apologized and gave me a discount). First, let me start by saying I created a yelp account for the first time solely to give Kim's nail salon rave reviews, so others can come and see how great she is. No, I have not been living under a rock. I always love reading reviews on here, but was too lazy to write my own...until now. Secondly, I have to say that as a native New Yorker, it can be hard to impress me easily as I have become a bit jaded from being in the big city for 26 years. So, that's another reason why me leaving a review for something/ someone is a big deal. Finally, let me explain why YOU NEED to come here: 1. I called today, and she was able to give me an appointment for the same day only 2 hours from the time I called. Having already read some of her reviews, I knew this was the best way to be seen since she happens to be a one-woman-show, doing EVERYTHING by herself. I just did not think it would be as simple as this. 2. I heard about her friendliness, but honestly did not go here for this reason. I am not really a people person, so it was quite surprising to find myself talking about REAL issues to a complete stranger, but it was just so easy to do with her because she really seems to care about you and actually takes her time to get to know you. However, the whole time she is making you feel just like you're talking with a girlfriend, she is busy making your nails look absolutely fabulous. That brings me to my next point. 3. My nails actually look pretty darn amazing. Kim made sure to ask me what I thought of the shape, length, color, tip thickness, etc. the whole time she was working. Some other places act like they are doing you a favor, if they have to remove nail polish that they got on your skin or if you ask for a different color after one has already been applied on one nail, etc. Kim was very concerned with my satisfaction with everything the whole time. Her quality of work blows every other nail salon in the area out of the ball park. Now, if you're still reading my super long first-timer review, thank you, but I have a question for you... WHY ARE YOU NOT SUPPORTING THIS LOCAL BUSINESS YET?? I'm dumb-founded as to why Kim doesn't have more business (particularly from all them V-tech students) flying through her doors! Someone who does such quality manicures, is friendly and funny, yet professional, has several years experience, has a super clean space, speaks English, has parking available.....etc. etc. etc. deserves to have her business supported more. I also go a design done and she matched the colors of the design to what I'd be wearing on my date(the reason I got my nails done). Kim has a great friendly personality and is a true artist. I had a pedicure with her and she guided me with the color (emerald green, something I would have bypassed as too flashy) and then offered to paint on a beautiful sparkly flower on my big toes - at no extra charge!! It all came out superb and has lasted for a month now with no flaking or chipping. Not a day goes by that friends and sometimes complete strangers don't admire my toes. Why did I take off one star? The salon was dirty and I observed lapses in disinfection in between customers. The feet soaking tub was visibly not clean, no liner and even had some gravel in it. Kim is absolutely not only wonderful at doing my nails and toes, but a really sweet person as well.
