I have no idea why ratings are so low here. Came in, needing to get a nail fixed and a fill. I have an ombré acrylic design, which the nail salon down the street totally messed up. I came in, noticing that the inside looked quite nice, and it was always filled with customers. Andy was my nail tech, and goodness gracious, he took so much time to shape, redo, and design my nail. Relationships are really tricky. It's a fine balance between remaining true to yourself, being happy, and not getting burned. This is why Top Nail Design and I broke up a few years ago. Literally, I thought they burned my eyebrows from the wax and I never went back. Turns out I was overwaxing and my skin couldn't handle it. But as I fostered a new relationship with a new salon, I became comfortable and forgot about my old lover. Where do I start?! For starters the nail tech, Amy KILLED a bug by slapping it onto my leg. Then she was very rude she was making slick comments the entire time she did my toes and she turned to another customer and said "she has man feet very rough." My BFF and I had a "Girls Day" during the summer of '12. We went to brunch, a movie and then went to get our nails done. She has been coming here for a while and suggested I try it. (I'm super loyal and once I find a good ANYTHING, I don't like to stray). So I went to the next available nail technician - Amy. Amy (Crazy Amy as she refers to herself) did my nails perfectly. She listened to everything I told her I wanted done. I'm always nervous when it comes time to paint my nails because a lot of nail technicians haven't mastered the art of properly covering the entire nail and evenly distributing the polish to makes sure it's done. The first time being at a salon where they actually care about the health of your nails. Veronica was so informative. After months of gel mani my nails were so thin the simplest movements gave discomfort. She explain different options so we can get my nails healthy again. Not annoyed about the many questions I had. (Esp about fake nails) I haven't put extensions on in maybe 8 years so her patiences with me was ideal. I got a wrap with black tips (french) $30 and they are thin and very natural looking. I love top nail design!! I recently revisited top nail after many years and the staff still remembered me. They are all lovely and give you quality service. For example, when my cars meter was running out, they refilled the meter so I wouldn't have to get up in the middle of my manicure. For Christmas, I got the gel permanent French manicure for the first time. Love it!! Julie did a great job of making me look fabulous. After reading a lot of great reviews of this nail salon, I decided to give them a try. I walked in for a pedicure, mani and eyebrow wax. They were able to accomodate me right away. As I was told to pick a color, the nail tech followed me around from polish station to polish station and then told me not to pick certain ones I liked becuase they weren't good. Well, if they aren't good, why have them in your salon? I had my pedicure first. She did a great job with getting the dead skin off my heels, but when I asked her not to keep hitting my arches (because I am extremely ticklish and that is not pleasant) she made a comment and gave me a look like how dare I. I'm paying you for a service so give me what I ask for. Instead of using lotion (like every other nail place) for the massage part they use an oil. This oil stayed on my legs even after the hot towel was placed on my legs. It was still there when I went to pull my pant legs down. Not good for jeans! My manicure was good, really no complaints about that. My friend was getitng a gel manicure at the same time and the nail tech woudln't let her pick her color. Another negative there. My eyebrows were done great. Now I must say I had a different nail tech for my mani and eye brow wax than I did for my pedi. I htink I just got not the best customer service nail tech in the place. I stopped in and got the $10 basic manicure based on the Yelp reviews. I had Danny, the only gentleman working there. He was good, the manicure was solid. Nailpollish selection was okay but not the best (there is a small selection of OPI). There was a good vibe in the place and folks there seemed to be in a good, mellow mood. My first time here and it was a really pleasant experience. I had the joy to have Tammy as my nail tech and she is SOOOO sweet and nice. As soon as I walked in, she greeted me and began my pedicure within 15 minutes. I came on a Friday morning (they open at 9:30 a.m.) and the place was already packed! The space is very spacious with about 12 stations for manicures and 10 for pedicures. There's also about 6-7 drying stations and a space for eyebrows, massages, etc. The best part...SOOOOO many colors to choose from! Really wanted to try something new and it was not hard to find a color suitable for the NY summer days. My one issue? The bathroom looked a bit old and dingy and although I despise all public restrooms already, looking at the accumulating dirt on the floor did not subside my woes. Would I return? I've never had such a bad experience at a nail salon. From the moment I called for an appointment they were rude and insisted on me coming in at 6:00 not 6:30. I got there at 6:00 and they didn't take me until 6:25. The lady who did my nails was on the phone talking very loudly the whole time not paying any attention to me. The colour selection was awful, lots of old bottles and odd colours. They don't even carry Essie. I told her I needed to soak off my gel nails (I came in for a gel manicure and a regular pedicure) and she gets up a few minutes later and brings me a bowl of acetone in a cardboard box. I asked her if she could wrap them instead and she goes why didn't you ask? I told her id never been there before and didn't know how they did it. She left them on soaking individually for the duration of the pedicure, about 25 minutes. Halfway through the pedicure I look down and realise she's pulling tools from a jar in the floor COMPLETELY UNSANITARY. The worst part is my toes actually look nice, but aside from taking off the gels I had on I refused to let her touch my fingers with those dirty tools. Still working on getting my nails back to normal after 4 month! Have been there before and at that time it was very busy and this time around the shop was empty maybe that was putting out a red flag! The guy doing my nails did' nt speak english and had a rude attitude and on top of that he did not have a clue what he was doing! As a non-metrosexual guy...getting a "mani/pedi" hasn't really been a top priority of mine, but recently a couple of my closest female friends convinced me that I was missing out on a great experience. So I decided to man up and submit to being pretty-fied! One of the greatest experience of my life...SON! I see now why past girlfriends did this every other week! Julie and her staff are the best! I'd marry her (or any of the ladies in there). But alas Julie is already married and so are most of the other ladies. Why the hell don't we live in Utah!?! FUNGUS FUNGUS FUNGUS!!!!!!!!!!! worst nail salon ever. I had been going to this nail salon ever since i put acrylic nails on this summer. consistently for the past two weeks I would come this salon, and whenever they would recommend a service or change I was all for it. To me, I figured they were the professional, they know best and this is why I am going to them. I had gotten so comfortable going there that i would just let the women work her magic on my nails while i caught up on the latest gossip in the magazines they provided. Like clock work i went there 2 weeks after getting a fill in and requested to soak the original set and replace it with a new one. Sam, who i had never been to but seen often, walks me over to a seat to soak my nails. To my surprise, when the polished is removed Sam tells me I have fungus forming under one of my nails and he wants to know where have i been getting my nails done!!!!! I tell him "Here!" He than wants to know who had been doing my nails and unfortunately I can't remember her name but she sits all the way in the back, just before the pedicure area on the left hand side. When I saw the infected area, I could not understand how she could have missed it all this time. And to think this women just continued to paint over the nail without suggesting that we replace it, even though she suggested replacing other nails and i obliged. Why would she do this?!? Especially since 2 weeks prior she replace 1 nail that was lifting!!! At this point I don't even want to put anything on my nails and this idiot is trying to convince me that i should get a new set. The women who allowed this infection to fester comes over with the audacity to think that she was going to be doing my nails and says "Not even a manicure?" At this point I'm thinking she needs to take 10 steps back! She never even says I'm sorry and she thinks I'm going to trust her to continue doing my nails? I don't think so. And what makes you think that i would want to pump more of my hard earned money into your business?!? Especially since you have no remorse. To make a long story short, Sam has the nerve to ask me to pay him $10 for soaking off my nails even when the price list states that its only $5!!!! Suburb customer service as you can see. I of course tell them that i will not be paying for the service and ask to speak to the owner. Sam and the owner, who later tells me her name is Julie, which I don't believe, began speaking in either Chinese? Korean? or whatever language it is right in front of me. So now Sam is going to explain to Julie what happened to me in another language when all she had to do was ask me? Julie simply tells me that nail care is my responsibility not the business!!!!! There was never a "sorry... this is what we can do" from her or the dimwit in the back. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!! i will be filling a complaint with the board of heath. and now have to take an antibiotic to clear the infection. read more

Ok...I admit I 'm a bit of a commitment phobe when it comes to nail salons. Every week, I swear, up and down, I will return to the same nail salon I frequented the prior week but that rarely ever comes into fruition. In spite of my commitment issues, I can genuinely say this is one of my favs. Top Nail design caught my eye beause it stood out among the other many nail salons that line Livingston street--I hate to say it but some of the another nail places look downright grimy *shutters*. I have to admit that I genuinely pick salons on how clean/aesthetically pleasing they appear and this salon definitely fits the bill and at very affordable price tag to boot! The other factor that makes this place a step above the rest is that they employ some of the happiest nail technicians I've ever seen. They all speak good english and are always making friendly banter with each other and with the customers. My nail tech, Kim, took it upon herself to strike up a conversation and ask my name, which was a pleasant surprise. When it came time to do my nail design, I picked out a leopard print pattern ( I know...I'm a classy broad right?). Kim wasn't confident she could do it properly, so she enlisted the help of another tech. I really appreciated her reaching out for help instead of possibly botching up my nails. So, would I frequent Top Nail Design again sometime in the future--sure, but with my fickle nail-salon-hopping ways, who knows when that will be lol read more

I've been coming here for almost a year now and I love it. The ambiance is great, all the nail techs are so friendly as well as the environment. They talk and joke with you as well as each other. i'm on the fence about Top Nail. on the one hand, they seemed a little... disorganized, or unprofessional, or something. the selection of polishes is limited (at least for Essie and OPI, which are the only ones i use), and my technician, who i think is also the owner? seemed frazzled or flighty throughout my entire time with her. perfectly nice, but, i don't know, distracted or something. also, i didn't see them take any of the tools out of any sort of sanitizer. but, on the other hand, she did a good job. she didn't cut me, the polish looks great -- the end result is definitely satisfactory. i was just a little unsure while i was there. so i can't decide if i'll be returning. also, the pricing was weird compared to most nail salons i've been to. a basic manicure is $10 (standard these days but more than i like to spend), but the basic pedicure is $15 and a basic manicure-and-pedicure is only $23. that's the cheapest i've seen in a long time, and i feel like many of the places i see that charge $8 for the mani will yet charge $30 for the mani/pedi. so maybe i'll go back here when i need both a mani & pedi, but if i need only a mani, i'll go somewhere that charges less for that one service? i don't know. i'm confused. read more

Plus not to mention they carry OPI and Essie nail polish! Which that's very hard to do, find a nail salon that carries that brand in the "hood"! I came in to the store today just to repair a nail....Lo and behold, the techs were on hand to take care of me without removing the whole nail like other places just to get more money out of your pockets... My relationship with Kim and Top Nail is over. For last four months I have been going to Top Nail faithfully. When I say faithfully I mean once a week to Kim. I have exchanged birthday gifts with Kim and Judy, Judy is the owner of the establishment and even Chinese New Year gifts. But last Friday broke the camel's back had a rough day at work at five seventeen Kim calls me to ask me if I am still coming mind you my appointment is not until five thirty! I mention that to her and state due to a meeting that went over the time period I would be there after five thirty but no later than five forty. Kim insists that it is Friday, and I told her made an appointment the day before and there is always a five or ten minute grace period when going to an establishment such as a nail salon. I arrived at five forty and she could not stop talking about it being Friday and then her customers whether walk-ins or appointments she is stating remorse over not being able to service them. Mind you I have had to wait for five even fifteen minutes due to me being on time but her previous client deciding to do something extra or she took a walk-in a mere ten minutes prior to me arriving. I told her I am paying customer and do not need this back and forth conversation about it being Friday and being ten minutes late I called and mentioned it. I clearly understand Friday is a moneymaking day but that is no way to talk to a regular customer and especially a regular customer who provides an incentive tip. Meanwhile so many arrive at Top Nail and get services: manicure, pedicure, and eyebrows wax or other areas wax and do not even provide a tip. Since the owner was not there I decided to followup with a compliant call on Monday, even though the owner apologized it really was not enough since the owner is not the one who caused the damage but rather the nail technician (Kim). I've been going to Top Nail now for over 6 years and can't imagine going anywhere else. My main girl is Julie but I have gotten my nails done with many of the other girls that work there. Everyone on the entire staff is very friendly. And there is absolutely no rush when you are getting your nails done, as they all pay very close attention to detail; they take their time and make sure you are comfortable the entire time you are there. Their prices are also very reasonable. I even know people that commute from other boroughs to get their nails done here. So if you havn't tried them, you are missing out. Went to get a full set - the way they removed my nails was so confusing. They didn't soak in warm water and soap - instead they went for it - with some cuticle clippers and a metrocard. The lady helping my main technician (the one with the bad foot) has no remorse for injuring my nail with that method. After service paid for and nails I dried I went home to actually look very well at the work. The nails were different lengths and shape. Fuck no, I'm going back. The lady with the bad foot service me and asked me if the length was good which I said yes but she shaped it square not coffin/ballerina. I told her I hated them but I paid for it already so whatever. I go to dry and the left thumb nail is a completely different size than the right. It's even skewed off to the top and I went to point this out to her and she blamed it on me. Like if you can't do your job, find another one. No ones forcing you to stay here. If coming here make sure to go to the younger nail techs - the ones who look younger than 30 and clearly into black culture. They seemed to be the go to ones with intricate nail design. read more

Very disappointed... Absolutely no supervision or control of employees or customers. Went several times, bc close to work & home. 1st impression of the place is rundown & "I hope it's clean..." Once, I had a ok manicure. Then, next few times were not as good: wait time, others skipping me, quality of work. Today did it. I saw when I entered it was busy. I was told I was 2nd on wait list, and there was a sign in list. Only, employees ignored that list & we're taking their customers over the 1st-come-1st-service. I let got 1. Then, it happened again. By then I had waited over 40 minutes. Finally, at 1 hour mark, I saw 2 more cut in front of me. So, without a word, I got my bag and left. Only to have their employee run after me, 1/2 way down the block and say I do you right now. I said to her, no thank you. She insisted. As someone who has just moved to the neighborhood, one of the first things I look for (besides a grocery store), is a nail salon. I like to get a mani/pedi every two weeks, without spending a fortune. I went in to Top Nail Design and received an amazing mani/pedi at such a wonderful value. I felt so relaxed and NOT RUSHED the entire time. Everyone that works there is so nice, and put time and effort into each individual client. I've always felt that at a nail salon, you can either receive great service at a high price OR feel rushed in a dirty, cramped salon for cheap. Top Nail Design is definitely the exception. I can definitely say I will be going there for all of my mani/pedi needs going forward. I've never reviewed anything before online, but because I had such an exceptional experience, I deemed this one necessary.
