Randomly decided to go here after a bike ride. So good. I haven't had pan pizza too often; Pizza Hut counts but barely. Either way, it was nice and crispy and not oily. Tony's is in a good location in Willimantic on Main Street. I think that the ramp style entrance they have needs some kind of railing because it's a dangerous drop off into the parking lot if someone wasn't careful or have kids. They don't cook their french fries enough I had several that I bit into that was uncooked. They also have a gentleman in there who is a cook no less who I can still see his upper lip as he wasn't wearing a mask properly it was only around his chin and the lower part of his mouth. Ironic since they have a big sign post of the front that you must wear a mask. They obviously don't hold that standards to their employees. read more

I grew up on this pizza! Greasy Greek style that becomes addicting. I've never had bad service here. Tony's staff practically are staples and have been around for ages - very rare for a restaurant these days. You're not gonna get the fancy stuff, but you'll never spend too much. You'll always get more than your money's worth and almost anything off the menu is a sure bet. I've never been disappointed with wings or any of the grinders, either. You'll be treated well, too. I've always had great conversations with my servers. This is a great neighborhood pizza joint and they've been in business this long for a reason. Called ahead and ordered a grinder to go. I've never been here or heard of this place. I was just going to be in the area and saw this got decent reviews and stars. Service was good, friendly. I decided to stay and eat here since there were tables. My grinder was very good. For a whole it wasn't that big. I wish I had more. As far as sanitary wise, seeing the guy making the food and taking it out touch his cellphone, look at it and then go right back to the food was pretty disgusting and unsanitary. If you deal with food then your hands should be clean. If you want to check your phone then wash your hands afterwards bcuz your touching my food with your bare hands. read more

I'm breaking my own rule on this one; Tony's Pizza is not really a five-star joint. It's kind of divey, no real atmosphere to speak of, not something I'd usually rate five stars. But the food and the service made our visit warrant the extra star shout-out. Our server was friendly, super-attentive (at one point bringing us some extra sauce and sides after over-hearing us mention it while she was waiting on another table). She seemed to anticipate our needs, bringing take-out containers before we asked for them, making sure we had everything without us having to wait for her to show up. After dinner, she seemed genuinely concerned with how we liked our meals, and talked up the stuff we should try next time (pizza!). Two diners at the booth next to us left just before we did. One woman said to the other "Wow, thanks for bringing me here! That was great." That's kind of how we felt after trying so many other pizza joints in the area, but always overlooking Tony's. I think this is our new favorite. We were having a late dinner on a Sunday evening, so were happy just to find the place open. Even after 8:00 pm the dining room was hopping, which i guess is a testament to Tony's popularity. Due to the late hour we didn't want to wait for pizza to be baked, although we gazed longingly at the thick, delicious looking pies on the tables of surrounding diners. So we split an ol' pizza-shop favorite, a chicken parm grinder, starting with a small Greek salad. The small salad was more than enough for two, and we had plenty to take home. It was a simple affair consisting of just iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cukes, and loads of kalmata olives and feta cheese. No pepperoncini, but those aren't really supposed to go on Greek salads anyway. And there was no actual Greek dressing available, but the suggested house vinaigrette was delicious and just fine. Everything was crisp and fresh, if not exactly a true Greek salad. The chicken parm grinder was one of the better ones I've had. Fresh tasting, moist and crispy chicken breast (not a pressed and formed cutlet), and they definitely don't skimp on the ingredients. It was piled high with onions and peppers, plenty of cheese and sauce, oven baked. The large grinder wasn't exactly huge, but it was more than enough for two. We ordered a side of fries which appeared (and smelled like) they were fresh cut, skins still on them, nice and crispy. Again, more than enough and we took half the order home along with some of the sandwich. The only downside, seriously, is the menu. Lots to choose from, but minimalist. No descriptions indicating what or how many items were prepared. Minor complaint, to be sure, but still I would have liked a bit more info while trying to decide what to order. Saving the best for last: this is one of the best deals in town. The two of us ate for a little over $20 -- and that included a Long Trail draft beer! I'd choose this place for the $3 drafts alone! Bud and Coors are only $2, and a honey brown ale is $4. So, overlook the less-than-inviting facade, which is easy to drive by unnoticed. There is ample parking, the food is very good, the portions are big, and the prices simply can't be beat. I can't wait to order a couple of pies (which, our server informed, they'd also prepare half-baked to finish at home, or even frozen if you call ahead. I first ate at Tony's in October 1974. We lived just down the street at 51 Ash Street. I was a Uconn student who lived off-campus. A small cheese and onion pizza was $2 then. Since school I seldom make it to Willimantic. However, when I do I always try to have a meal at Tony's. Today was the first time in at least three years. I had the gluten-free vegetarian (pizza) special. My wife had the small "meat" (pizza) special. Both were fantastic. I know, pizza seems like a generic and predictable food. However, Tony's pizzas are simply superb. Rich, flavorful, just the right balance of cheese, sauce, and toppings. There is nothing like this where I live. This place is a gem. Oh, and the gluten free crust was stunning - best gluten free bread I have ever had. Dining room is modest. However, the emphasis is on quality, not décor. Try it. You will not be disappointed. Founder "Tony" passed away from Covid-19 in 2020. He is missed, but I am grateful the family decided to keep going. read more

I can't believe I forgot to yelp about Tony's Pizza after salivating myself silly for the past 2 years whenever I walk into this establishment. I was skeptical at first when I first came here. I was not convinced that pizza that deviates from NYC pizza will be any good. I mean, you're telling me I can't fold my slice? Boy was I wrong. Tony's Pizza makes the best pizza in CT and even the "grinders" are quite tasty. I have no complains about any food served here so be adventurous and try something new (Grinder = Sub for those that doesn't live in CT). Here's my recommendation: The only pizza I ever order there is the Tony's Meat Lovers Pizza. It is truly a meat lovers pizza with piles of bacon, sausage, hamburger and pepperoni. If you're into grinders or subs, the cheese burger grinder is quite tasty (make sure you ask for the bread to be toasted, makes the difference). read more

When I moved to the area over 15 years ago, people talked about this place often. I finally went and now know why. Fast forward to today and a recent international guest that I housed for a couple of days said she HAD to ahve Tony's Pizza while she was in town. Went to college in Willimantic and this was our pizza place of choice. Despite being college kids, we were picky about our pizza and would never order Dominos. Tony's is the closest thing to good pizza that you'll get in Willimantic. Thick crust, saucy, and very cheesy with lots of flavor. Not the NYC or New Haven pizza that I prefer, but still worthwhile. Other than the pizza, the chicken parmesan dinner was my favorite option. Absolutely huge portion of food cooked just right. The service in the restaurant is slow. The space inside is also unkempt, dirty and cramped. The tables are also cramped and very uncomfortable. The pizza is decent, and fairly priced though. I like the "Special Pizza", the "Cheese Pizza" is ok, but sometimes I find it can get a little greasy. Service and cleanliness needs improvement. I grew up in Willimantic and have travelled just about everywhere in the US. I now live in California. I can safely say NOTHING compares to pizza in north eastern CT. And in north eastern CT, nothing compares to Tony's. The key is they cook the pizza at such a high temp that the cheese gets crazy gooey, the crust perfectly crunchy, and the edges of the peperoni burns just a tinge. The combination of those 3 items and you get a taste like no where else. Now onto the grinders. Again, nothing else compares to this type of sandwich. Head 30 miles in any direction and they are called subs or torpedoes or something else. You'd think it is the same thing, just by a different name. But no, north east CT does something different to the grinders. My favorite is a salami grinder. I cannot pinpoint what it is. My dad always said it was the rolls they used. My mom insisted the salami was special. Others say it is the dressing they use. Well, I am not sure what it is, but it is hard to duplicate. I have been trying for years. I think it is a little bit of everything, but also think my dad came closest when he said it is the rolls. The rolls are light and airy on the inside, but the outside has a "crispy" (for lack of a better term) texture to it. Take the same guts of the grinder that Tony's makes and put it on, say a Subway roll, and it won't even be close. Highly recommend this place especially for peperoni pizze and salami grinders. I don't know why you'd get anything else. Only thing I can see anyone complaining about would be that the pizza can be a bit greasy if you are used to NY style pizza or chicago deep dish. To me, NY style doesn't have enough "umph" to it, and Chicago style can be very dry. Way too much dough, not enough sauce or sheese. Anyway, if you have issues with the grease, do what a lof of people in my family do - soak up the excess with a napkin and then dig in. This is the first place I go to when I visit CT. Two close seconds is Mamas Pizza just up the hill, or Papa's Pizza and Roast Beef (assuming it is still there). read more

Best pizza in CT...hands down. The establishment has been here for about 40 years and is always busy with customers awaiting delicious pizza. Tony's serves a medium thickness type pizza and does an excellent job on crust texture. They also put a healthy portion of cheese on the pizza, and cook it till the cheese just starts to brown. Its cooked perfectly, they use quality ingredients and don't skimp on the amounts which is why its so highly rated for quality. We've been going to this place for at least 30+ years! Best pizza ever, especially the pepperoni and mushroom (and you can ask them to make the pepperoni toasted). Delicious! Every time we have out of town guests we bring them here and they've all loved the pizza, too! We've traveled to Europe (Italy), Asia and other parts of the USA and this remains to be our favorite place for pizza. We rarely order anything else except pizza here, but we occasionally have had their grinders, which are also good.
