Stopped here on my recent trip to the local national wildlife refuge as it is just outside of its borders. Not as impressed this time around. The place is a bit shop worn and could use a good cleaning. I looked online and I wanted to order a mini (single patty vs the usual double). When I went to place my order with the order taker, this was not an available choice. We each got a burger, all very juicy and sloppy and really needed a plate rather than the porous paper the sandwich was wrapped in. Were they tasty. Generally yes but trying to stay clean while eating it was so distracting. Don't try to eat this in the car. read more

This has to be one of the best burgers I had in my life! Trust me, this isn't just a statement easily given from me. I've had the black label burger at Minetta Tavern. This corner store in Galloway NJ has nailed burger perfection. My wife & I are headed down to Ocean City NJ for their annual Corvette show. I figured I'd stop before the 3pm hotel check in and grab some lunch. I order a Black & White milkshake (cause I'm a Brooklyn kid at heart) and wait for our burgers. The restaurant is decorated simple with a few burger pictures on the walls. Nothing fancy or bougie for what we're about to experience. The burgers come to us and we take a bite. Wow! We stopped in here for a bite to eat when we were in town for a wedding. The burgers were really pretty good (I had the French onion burger, my friend had the one with the grilled cheese bun and tomato soup for dipping, and my husband had the classic) and a bit different than we're used to and the fries were great. I love burgers and I saw someone post a review of Tony Beef on Instagram. So my wife and I took a drive to try it out. It was effen delicious I got the Texas burger: two patties, frizzled onions and barbecue sauce on a toasted bun--delicious. The waffle fries were good also. The banana milkshake was one of the best I've ever had. The young ladies behind the counter were friendly and the service was quick. The tables and chairs inside were basic: metal and hard wood. This is OK because I didn't come here for the ambiance. I came for, and will come back for, the burgers . If you love burgers this place is for you. My wife and I had lunch here for the first time yesterday. We certainly regret not trying it sooner. Burgers were delicious! Everything we ordered came out hot and fresh. I had the Crispy Texas and my wife did a build your own burger. The receipt shows everything she added to it. We also got a regular order of waffle fries and fountain drinks from the Coke Freestyle Machine. They use a kiosk style ordering system and we had no problems navigating it. I ordered from the Somers Point location about 2 weeks ago, I ordered a triple crispy Texas to split with my girlfriend. When I got to the counter to pay for my order, the cook in the back was talking to another coworker about my order and went on a tirade about how ordering a triple was "selfish". He went on for about this for a good five minutes. I don't think he realized that the person who placed the order was standing right there. I told the nice woman running the register what was happening right in front of us and if I could speak to the cook. He came to the front counter. I told him I didn't understand the comment and why he would talk about one of your patrons like this, essentially right to my face. First, he said he made the remarks he did because "it was hot" back where he was cooking. I asked him if that was really his reason for making the comments he made. Then he changed his tune and said he was "just joking around" with another coworker. The coworker: a mid 50's-early 60's elderly gentleman who showed no interest in the joke. I told the cook I still didn't understand his remarks and why he would talk about a customer like this. After about five minutes of debating the topic and the cook continuing to try to stand his ground on why there was nothing wrong with his comments, he apologized but refused to acknowledge that his comments were out of line. Needless to say that as someone who has struggled with eating disorders in the past, I now feel pretty disturbed by the situation and with myself, and won't be back to Tony Beef. read more

Overall the hamburger was good. However it could've been better. The main issue was that the meat just tasted salty. I do recommend stopping in for lunch here if you're in the area. I even regularly eat at Hamburger Mary's around the country because of their choices of meats and large serving portions. Nothing, and I do mean, nothing compares to Tony Beef though. You get probably the largest collection of choices anywhere. Sure, it can be a little intimidating at first. But the staff is patient, knowledgeable and fun. They walk you through the enormous field of choices including five different types of buns, half a dozen types of meat, a handful of cheese choices and don't get me started on the topping... they even have bacon jam and yes... it's to die for! The place does huge sizes of fries, a large order can feed a small family, and their shakes are killer.
