Espresso Martini

I grew up in Wakefield, which has added some nice restaurants over the years, in spite of their close proximity to Boston. Parking here is interesting if you're new--don't waste $ in the MBTA spaces because there is a lot located on the adjacent one way (inconveniently going the wrong way) Armory Street. There are 2 electric vehicle charging stations as well. Eleven of us gathered to celebrate a birthday. Our server, Marcus, was awesome. He made suggestions, jokes, and provided excellent service. As a long commute was in store for me, I wasn't imbibing. I asked about mocktails. Marcus asked "what I felt like". All I said was something fruity and tropical and he came back with a delicious concoction resembling a coconutty Creamsicle. We ordered many seafood items, a Chicken Milanese, and I ordered the halibut special. Entrees are on the pricier side (Wakefield still isn't Boston) but the quality makes you turn a blind eye. I wanted to try the fried oysters appetizer from the specials, but I feared I'd have no room for dessert. Our birthday girl received a flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce and celebratory candle. We shared the cannoli trios and a tiramisu. Many friends enjoyed espresso and pistachio martinis, but I had a cappuccino that was a little disappointing--foam was naked of any cocoa powder or coffee art, and where was the customary biscotti on the saucer? IMHO, my lowly coffee warranted at least as much attention as the martinis! Chocolate cake was amazing, cannoli filling was fresh and creamy, and while I didn't get any coffee flavor from the tiramisu, the mascarpone flavor was rich and delicious. The birthday dessert was comped, which was a nice touch. Everyone enjoyed the evening--

Spicy Octopus

The ambiance at this place is awesome. It's fancy without being overly fancy - great for a nice date, family time, cocktails with the gals, etc. The service was excellent, water refills/plate clean up ready to rock. I got a mezcal honey drink to start that was delish, and table came with focaccia bread. We got some oysters to kickoff din which were chefs kiss ($1 from 4-5pm) and for main course I got the salmon dish with fregola, succotash, fennel purée. This was the only disappointing point of the night - my main course was BLAND. It was a very basic, plain Jane salmon and the fregola (similar to couscous) actually upset my stomach. I had fomo of everyone else's dish, including a shockingly large octopus appetizer dish. Would like to give it another go because it was a great spot just a bummer meal!

Tagliatelle Bolognese

We went to Tonno Wakefield located on 175 North Ave, Wakefield, MA. This spot offers a great selection of classic Italian dishes and even a little happy hour from 4-5pm during the week. For appetizers we had the arancini balls and burrata. The arancini balls are abborio rice balls that are deep fried. A classic italian appetizer! The Burrata is made of mozzarella and was my personal favorite-it looked and tasted amazing! So many colors in this dish. For entrees we had the Tagliatelle Bolognese and the Veal Saltimbocca. The house made tagliatelle pasta contained veal, pork, beef, onion, carrot, fennel, and parmesan cheese. The Veal Saltimbocca was my personal favorite and contained toasted potato, broccoli rabe, crispy prosciutto, and a brown butter sage sauce. For dessert we had a chocolate cake with strawberry sauce Food: 7/10 Ambiance: 6/10 Affordability: 5/10

Halibut Special

Food was delicious. I was craving halibut and this was one of the only restaurants which had it as a special. The halibut was delicious! Tuna Crudo was so fresh and one of the most amazing appetizers I've ever had! The Martini was super yummy, the pepper Cheaneys was stuffed with prosciutto and cheese! The flourless chocolate cake was good. This might be my favorite restaurant. Bravo Tonno

Delicious and fresh! Love the atmosphere. Mussels were so tasty. Service was great and our server was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations

Spaghetti Fra Diavolo with Shrimp

I want to start by saying. The staff was amazing/ server and runners were very attentive and friendly. I made a reservation and was sat right away on Valentine's Day. Unfortunately the food was disappointing Appetizer was the spicy octopus (we wanted calamari but they ran out) octopus tasted fresh but was just spicy with no flavor. The bolognese was like a bland soup - not good definitely avoid if you can! Pasta was cooked well but it was so bland and watery The shrimp fra diavlo was not bad and shrimp was cooked very well and was not fishy at all We also ordered the sticky toffee pudding. It was okay.. I've had better and it was also overly sweet Unfortunately the prices do not match the quality of the food. And it's not even in a great location to be charging so much for the food.

crab cake

For my birthday last night, we made reservations at Tonno's. We have come here a few times over the years, and each time has been perfect. Décor: cool and modern, well spaced out, and seating is very comfortable. Food: Started with the stuffed blossom and crab cake; both were seasoned well and satisfying. The crab cake barely had any filler whatsoever! At first, it looked a Lil blah because it had no crispy outer shell. Do not let that deceive you; it was packed with crab meat so sweet and tender. The aioli on the side was delish! For entrees, we had the Sunday sauce with meatballs and sausage. Kiddo deemed this very good and loved the fresh noodles and sausage. The meatballs were moist; however, they lacked a smidge of salt. Hubs had the Shrimp fra diablo and again loved the fresh pasta, huge juicy, perfectly cooked shrimp and the sauce had a kick but was not overwhelming. I opted for the cioppino stew, which was very flavorful and good. The only hiccup here was the white fish was a bit overcooked, as well as the calamari rings. However, everything else was done well! (I had the leftover stew sauce with poached eggs and toast this morning, yummy!) Dessert was this mini light; fluffy whip-filled cannoli and a pineapple coconut cake. Both are really light and airy and not heavy, a perfect ending to the meal. Drinks: Were strong but really well balanced and the server didn't bat an eye when the kiddo asked for one of the cocktails virgin style! Service: From the front host to our server Nicole, we had a fantastic time. Nicole was bright, funny, and super helpful. Thanks, Tonno, for making my bday dinner special!

Beautiful restaurant, over priced mediocre food with small portions. No soda refills $ 4.00 is ridiculous.

We have two little picky eaters and needed convenience, access to parking, and spacious and friendly for toddlers. We thoroughly enjoy Ciao Amici and have been going pretty regularly for the last 2 years. Our usual are the meatballs and carbonara for the kids. For awhile, it was the only way I could get my youngest to eat any protein. It is tender and has the right amount of spices for my youngest to gobble up. The two of them always share the carbonara and slurp it right up. Lastly, my oldest has recently become obsessed with their sauteed mussels and I literally have to negotiate with her to let me eat one. I love the saffron garlic white wine sauce, it is very garlicy and goes so well with the warm bread that they give you. My husband and I have tried a lot of their pasta and seafood with risotto dishes. Recently he has also ventured into their main dishes and still enjoyed it. Overall, great flavors, pasta is al dente, and the perfect portion where you don't feel overly stuffed by the end of the meal. We've tried a few of the places in the North End, and I would say Ciao Amici definitely is on par if not better than some of the places in the North End, plus they have a small parking lot that we've always had access to. My personal favorites are the Spaghetti Shrimp Scampi and Haddock e Risotto. The servers are always attentive and considerate. The -1 star comes from the pace of service. We usually go on the early side and don't have trouble but the few times we've gone when it was a bit busier, we noticed that the food can take awhile to come out and although I am confident everyone is working hard, they may not always be staffed appropriately when t's busy. Lastly, we did order a salad once and it was definitely no frills, but that was exactly how it was stated on the menu. I would not go there for the salad.

We love Sabatino's!…read more The food is excellent, and they have a large menu encompassing traditional favs (like chicken ziti & broccoli, chicken parm, ravioli, etc.), some really unique dishes, and old school dishes like bracciole, tripe, and calamari sauce -- each of which remind me so much of childhood dinners with my Papa. Their house salad is to die for -- literally the best Italian dressing I've ever had, and always poured generously over crisp iceberg and cold, crunchy veggies with a healthy sprinkle of mozzarella cheese. Other standouts in the menu include the broccoli margarita and shrimp grand marnier appetizer and the zingarella specialty pasta dish. Every time we go, everything leaving the kitchen looks delicious and fresh. Service is consistently good and drinks are made very well. It gets very busy on weekends, so try to go for lunch or on a weeknight to ensure your meal is piping hot. Otherwise, we have found, sometimes dishes are sometimes served a little on the tepid side. Either way, you are sure to enjoy your experience at this great spot.

Two things I would note: the over abundance of cheese the chef uses in the Italian Wedding Soup. Give the guest a chance to put the amount of cheese they like. I was also looking forward to the Cacio e Pepe and, again, the amount of cheese used was overwhelming and the amount of pepper! I know that's the name of the dish, but let there be a happy medium. So much cheese that it looked curdled. Ick. The chicken francese, yup, too much black pepper! Why pepper? Put more lemon in the dish. The heavy handedness with the pepper and cheese on several dishes we ordered makes us second guess if we should give it a third try.

To…read morestart, we ordered a perfectly cooked octopus antipasti, followed by tortellini alla norcina, and for a secondi the vitello alla petroniana (we were debating between this pasta/secondi combination and the pasta bolognese/swordfish special - will have to come back to get these next time!). I don't typically eat veal, and this cutlet was perfectly balanced - rich, savory, crispy, with a pleasant (but not overwhelming) salty kick from the prosciutto and parmigiano reggiano. We also ordered the spicy broccolini, which I highly recommend for the garlic lovers out there. For dessert we had the dark cherry (amarena?) gelato, which was delicious and creamy, with the perfect amount of sweetness. We shared each dish, and it was certainly plenty of food for the two of us. Prices felt reasonable for the amount and quality of what we ordered (all of the above + 2 drinks from the bar totaled approx. $160 pre-tip). The restaurant space itself is relatively small but has enough space to move around comfortably, which made it cozy without ever getting too loud (it was a pretty full house when we went), with a balanced dim lighting. Additionally, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the server patiently walked us through the menu and shared suggestions at our request. On a personal note I am especially appreciative of the staff, as I accidentally left without my hat, and the restaurant responded almost immediately to the message I sent through the restaurant website that same evening. Tl;dr - great menu, rich & hearty but balanced ingredients/recipes, and comfortable vibe. One really gets the impression that the husband/wife owners had a specific vision that they successfully brought into reality.

The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, so it's a great place for date night. The Fantastic: 1. Service -- our waiter was amazing, he took great care of us. We wanted for nothing! 2. Tortellini Alla Norcina -- this was delish. It was creamy, a little funky, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. 3. Cacio e Pepe -- also delish. 4. Mussels -- perfectly cooked, big and plump, and the bread to sop up the broth was also yummy. The plates are beautiful, but I think that plating and presentation takes priority over the food sometimes: 1. Bruschetta -- this was supposed to come with a balsamic drizzle, but it was served on a wooden plate and the drizzle was tiny and thin, so there wasn't really any balsamic. The dish could have used it to help cut through the cheese. 2. Bombolone -- dry, there was not a lot of custard in the pastry, and the surrounding sauces were more decorative than helpful. We did not enjoy the mixed drinks, they were all on the sour side and watery. So I would stick with wine or beer, the wine we had was excellent. Overall, we had a really nice time and would return.
