Tongdak means whole chicken in Korean, made in tradition way of frying. This is a new restaurant focusing on Korean Fried Chicken.Their whole chicken is made with very thin batter, unlike other KFC restaurants. Everything is made-to-order so expect it to be crispy, temperature hot, and juicy.
This is a Korean husband and wife business. They opened early Apr 2026. Their prices are very reasonable. Jin, the husband, has about 10 years in the food industry, so he is a good chef.
We ordered the following:
1. Original Sandwich ($6.99).
2. Garlic Sandwich ($8.99).
3. Cole Slaw ($3.99).
4. Cheese Balls ($5.99).
5. Rose Tteokbokki ($6.99).
6. Fuse drink ($2.49).
7. Milkis drink ($3.49).
The customer service was good. If you ask nicely, they can give you a small amount of sauce to try; normally you pay $2.49 for a big tub.
Both sandwiches were huge! I was told the chicken amount is determined by weight, so sometimes it would be narrower and taller, and sometimes it would be wider and shorter.
The Original Sandwich has chicken tigh, garlic mayo, pickles, and lettuce. My son has this and he lived it.
The Garlic Sandwich has chicken thigh, garlic mayo, honey garlic sauce, pickles, and lettuce. The batter was crispy. The chicken was very tender and juicy in parts and softer in others (due to the fat content in parts of the thigh). The honey garlic sauce was fantastic!
The Cheese Balls had a good amount of cheese in it. My son ate it all without my knowledge!
The Rose Tteokbokki has rose spicy rice cake and fried onion on top. The spice level was mild. The rose sauce was to die for (has a nice sweetness to it). The fried onions were good. I highly recommend this dish.
I have to come back and try their whole chicken!
They let me try a dish that will be introduced in about a week. It is their Crispy Chicken Salad (no pricing yet). It consists of a colourful garden salad with pieces of chicken breast. The chicken had a very light but crispy batter, and the chicken was really tender. It came a super delicious honey garlic salad dressing that you can pour on the salad.
This restaurant is mostly a takeout restaurant, but there is counter seating with 8 stools.
There is only one staff member taking orders and cooking. Our order was the second in line. He told us it would take 10 mins. I am not sure if he meant we would get our order in 10 mins or it takes 10 mins to make our order. Our order was taken at 13:11. The order before us was served at 13:27. Our order came out 13:29.
There is a very loud fan in the ceiling.
The kitchen is partially open. You can hear the deep fryer.
There is no free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There are no customer washrooms. There is paid neighbourhood street parking.
