Tom's does burgers and a few other things, but for me, it's about their burgers and I think they make a pretty good one. Tom's shtick is an A-Z burger menu, and that makes it kind of fun, albeit more for the adventurous type who has no issue with slapping peanut butter on a burger. As for my rating, I was borderline 3/4 stars. I went w/ 4 stars because they consistently make a good burger. PROS: Burgers are tasty! Fresh ingredients coupled w/ flavorful beef, and just messy enough to make you keep the wrap around the burger. Tasty shoestring fries are always cooked the same way -- I have never had them over nor undercooked. Efficient operation w/ satisfactory service team. Lastly, Tom's remains a thriving food establishment in a dying Lompoc, and I appreciate that. CONS: Tom's comes off to me as kind of a gloomy place--it needs better lighting. Cash only, so that debit card is of no value. I won't drive to Lompoc just to go to Tom's (unless my daughter's in town -- she'd give Tom's 5 stars), but if you're in town, it's worth the stop. Their strength is predicated upon tasty burgers and fries which will always please the palate. read more

oh my when you get the French fries get no more than a 1/2 basket, onion rigs amazing. All the food is delicious and menu is crazy fun to consider all the choices. It is literally "A-Z" with a combo for each letter, but they are happy to give you what you want off menu. First off, absolutely phenomenal staff. They checked up on us for refills and if the food was okay 2-3 times. They also brought up the check during the meal for fast and easy payment. The food was absolutely phenomenal aswell. I would recommend the "i" burger (bacon burger) . Their menu has the alphabet worth of burgers (it will make sense once you get there). Tom's is trip down memory lane that did not disappoint. The burgers are not only amazing and unusual (see menu) they know how to cook them; and they should, they have been doing it for over 30 years. Service is impeccable. Bonus, your kids can see an old fashioned ticket with actual math and everything! To work here, you must not only have a great attitude but be able to perform basic (hmmm...is it still basic these days?) arithmetic. Don't skip Lompoc - they have hidden gems. It's so nice to see Toms open for dine in. I came for breakfast with my Dad and the food is always fresh, hot and portion sizes are great. I love their pancakes and bacon. Always one of my favorites. Tom's is the neighborhood favorite. I found that out when I first moved here. Everyone wants to go to Tom's for lunch. "Do you want to burger? Yeah, well we go to Tom's." Since the closing of Jalama Beach café in Lompoc, Tom's has filled in the void of a place that one could go to get a central coast style burger. PROS: this place is family oriented with lots of seating, enough for you and your friends. The waitresses and the host they're all neighbors, they're all friends. They will welcome you they will feed you good food. The menu is cleverly laid out in alphabetical order from A to Z. Each letter represent different type of burger with unique toppings and all tasting great! They serve a huge basket of gorgeous looking fries this definitely earned them a fifth star! CONS: parking is sufficient but make sure you carpool there for lunch. read more

Food, service and ambulance are all a 10 out of 10. We have gone to Tom's since it was a "hole in the wall" on H Street! It has always been consistent in all 3 areas. They are who they say they are in every way and super thoughtful. I have the highest respect for them and still love their burgers, as does my son when he visits. They are our happy memory "go to" place. My favorite is the "F" burger with Mayo instead of thousand island type sauce, extra pickles and very crispy bacon. read more

Good burger selections. I had a bacon-avocado burger with fries and 1/2 order of onion rings. The burger was moist and tasty; very good. Onion rings held together and did not separate from the batter. I would return there in a minute for the food buuuuuutttttt........... I asked for ranch dressing and they charged for it. "Everyone charges for ranch dressing." was what the hostess said to me in an condescending way. First of all, I've never been talked to like that by a hostess and not "everyone" charges for ranch dressing. Big BOOOOOOOOO!!!! You're not getting another dollar from me Tom's. Tom's makes a terrific burger, although their menu can be a little difficult to read. I get the schtick, but you literally have to read every convoluted sentence to decipher what's in each burger. My friends and I always get the "Dirty Mary" burger -- which isn't even on the menu -- named after one of the servers. This monster burger comes with: avocado, bacon, two types of cheese, raw onion, grilled onion, onion rings, jalapeños, bbq sauce, mayo, lettuce, tomato and I add a fried egg to the monstrosity. Their baskets of fries and onion rings remind me of The Hat down in LA -- one order can easily feed a small village. The prices are reasonable and the staff always welcoming. read more

As a straight up burger joint, this one gets 5 stars. Its a low key local place that hasn't been corrupted by the chain mentality. Service was excellent, with the waitress willing to work with one of our folks that has a gluten allergy. While she wasn't knowledgeable about the allergy, she was helpful with suggestions. Food was excellent. Lots of crazy burger choices. Everyone was happy with their choices. They were happy to split the checks and took credit cards, which may have been a problem in the past. The quality and service of one of the $14 dollar burger places, and at a more reasonable price. The menu is A-Z burgers all kinds of toppings from jalapeno to avocado to horseradish to peanut butter. How creative (not all are actually letters of the alphabet...some say things like amazing or spicy or delicious or whatever). I had the horseradish. The patty itself was kind of bland, I think if it had a bit of salt, it would have made the horseradish stand out more. Also, the bun gets soggy very quickly. My roomie and I split the 1/4 fries & 3/4 onion rings--fries were thin and a bit too crunchy, nothing special. The onion rings are big, crispy, and delicious. Weird but fun options on the menu! Makes you step out of your comfort zone to try some combination of accompaniments on a burger that you normally wouldn't even think of let alone consider. The food was delicious. We ordered the F and the X burgers from the menu. The flavor was great, however the buns weren't toasted (or not toasted enough), so they got soggy from the sauce and toppings. Aside from that, I wouldn't change anything else about these burgers. Can't go wrong at Tom's especially on Thursdays! Ham and swiss sandwich with pickles and lettuce on a roll with a bowl of their swiss potato soup! If heaven could be food, that would be one destination! Fast to go service and always friendly service!!! Oh and their fries are pretty good too!
