FOOD: coming from LA the portion was so trash mainly fries lol and the smallest layer of meat since I got to Santa Maria there's has yet to be some good food here and sad to say another restaurant disappointment their fries were nice and crispy I give them that the green sauce is nice but the portion are straight trash the flavor is good but ruined by what ever seasoning the put over the food once done. SERVICE: let's start by them trying to get my card information over the phone, then they said never mind it's fine,??? Ok , so I ask how long should I wait for it to be ready they said 10-15 minutes then I went after said time and waited another 15 minutes for the food lol AMBIANCE: but BY GOD I LOVE THE AMBIANCE I LOVE THE OLD SCHOOL VIBE THEY HAVE POTENTIAL. TO THE OWNER: PLEASE LOCK TF IN this restaurant has potential but your management needs work

Grilled Chicken Burger (lettuce wrap) combo
Rich S.

Had high hopes after seeing reviews. Trying to avoid carbs and saw some nice reviews on the chicken burger wrap. Ordered the chicken burger (lettuce wrap) with fries and a drink. First price I was given was $27. The girl at the counter was charging me for the "sandwich" which is like $8 more. She fixed it. Chicken patties were ultra thin on my sandwich but the fries were fat and crispy. Chicken was really flavorful just hardly any of it. Vibe wasn't the best and I didn't feel that welcome there. Not worth it for almost $20. This would have been a 3 star review but the $1 fee for credit card usage was ridiculous. That's a cost of doing business in the digital age yet they punish you for it here. Won't be going back, just not worth it for the price.

Mafioso Mafioo Fries

I came specifically for the mafioso fries. I ordered the small. They did not disappoint. Just before leaving I walked back in thinking I wanted a burger. But after seeing the portion I thought " next time baby, next time " . I ordered over the phone. I was told my order would be ready in 15 minutes. I arrived in less than 10. Order was ready and waiting to be devoured. I showed up around 3:pm so it was pretty quiet. Everyone was super nice. As I walked out I could hear the good byes. I wanted to let them know, don't worry folks im'a be back hehehe.

Overcharge for using credit card.

Good Chicken Sandwich, Bad Customer Experience. The chicken sandwich is one of the best I've had in the area. Unfortunately, I won't be back because I was charged 13% for using my credit card without disclosing it upfront. The cashier was annoyed when I respectfully brought this up and the manager/owner was reluctant to talk to me. When he did, he pointed to some fine print that was covered by a display. I informed him that per Senate Bill 478 that was passed July 1, 2024, what they were doing was illegal, and excessive. Based on his response, this was intentional and he didn't give a damn, or else I wouldn't be writing this review to warn others.

Outdoor seating is dog friendly

Best burgers in Santa Maria. Consistently delicious, always friendly and fast. Highly recommend the specialty burgers, i.e., Hustler, Ruthless, Western.

Love that Tom's Take Out is getting such well deserved, great reviews. Peeped the 1 star reviews and they must be clowns who work for the "competition." Cheeseburger Friday nearly every Friday for me. Great people and the burger is delish!!! Toasted to perfection brioche bun, special sauce and the patty is delicious and not grilled from frozen like other similar joints. Dig the chili's on the side as well. Keep doing a great job and brush them shoulders off to the 2 haters. 4.3/5 is pretty sick!

Tom Double Cheeseburger with bacon.

I went to Tom's when it initially switched owners years ago and I was very disappointed with the burgers. The buns were bready (thick and tasted cheap). I decided to try it years later to see if anything had changed. This is a completely different burger . The perfect bun( brioche like) the veggies all fresh, perfectly seasoned patties and the bacon was also good. We also had a grilled chicken sandwich which was also very good. The Tom double cheeseburger is a solid 4.8 and the grilled chicken sandwich is 5. We also had some crinkle fries and those were very good. Everyone has different experiences with restaurants, however mine was very pleasant and will definitely make the 15 minute drive for these burgers/ sandwiches.

Service was quick and friendly. Don't expect a 2 min turnaround like a fast food place but it isn't bad. The 5/5 is for the burger, the colossal! Good ratio of both meats and cooked perfectly. Doesn't eat dry and the flavor is spot on. If you're looking for a diner style good burger, this might be the place for you. The fries were just ok. Cooked well but very bland. I think without the ranch to dip in, i probably wouldn't eat them. Definitely try them out

Mafioo Fries AKA Mafioso

Man! You're definitely missing out if you've never experienced the mafioso French fries. The Ambiance picture a cool little corner joint, with some outside patio seating. This dish is LOADED with flavor enough deliciousness for two! This isn't a "fast food" establishment where they have pre made burgers. You might have to wait a few minutes for your order... trust it's well worth the wait! Ever eat so much you can't get a full breath ??? Just short quick little ones ? Like a fish outta water? It feels like that, but in a good way... enjoy!

Tom's burgers has been here for as long as I can remember. The food has always been good as for today also. It's been awhile since I've been here & Decided to bring my boy here because he's never had it. The price was decent, they do give you a good sized sides. The service was good. The ambiance the same as I remember. A couple tables & stools with pictures & posters on the walls. Happy I decided to bring my boy here to experience a new place for him & a good ol burger joint for me.

Omg those Mafioso fries! Fast and fresh. Pinned this place t9 visit again. Definitely, favorite.

So my family got a little excited by the menu and after we all ordered it was $100 but it was way too much food. There are so many amazing options that i really recommend looking at the menu before hand. You only need one large fry for a group of 4. There are some off menu fries like the diablo but it has some heat to it. If you can't do heat i highly recommend the fat boy fries. The burgers are big, juicy and delicious... We needed to use knives to fit the food into our mouths (an amazing problem to have if you're a foodie like me). I highly suggest everyone go here because it's amazing. We will be back!

Diablo Fries
Monica C.

The cheeseburgers are classic good! French fries are zig-zag thick cut. Diablo fries were a hit too! The ambiance is casual, would recommend to anyone looking for a quick bite.

A decade later and this spot is still excellent!…read more I customized Kay's Orcutt Original into a scramble instead of an omelet. It wasn't a pretty plate, but it tasted great. Definitely get the hash browns with whatever you order. Sitting at the counter gave me a front-row seat to the kitchen prep. The food runners have an interesting system for pulling plates from the heat lamps. A few orders seemed to sit for a bit, but my meal came out hot.

We normally sit in the open patio/sunroom area, which has a really nice country-style atmosphere, and the food has always been good. Our waiter was also very nice, courteous, and attentive, so I have no complaints about the service he provided. Unfortunately, this visit was very different because we were seated directly in front of the area where the kitchen staff was cooking, prepping, and washing dishes. Throughout our meal, I could hear several members of the kitchen staff joking around and talking loudly. Horseplay among coworkers normally wouldn't bother me, but the language being used was extremely vulgar. Most of it was being said in Spanish, and I got the impression they assumed the customers nearby didn't understand Spanish. One phrase in particular, "a la verga," was being repeated constantly -- "vete a la verga," "a la verga esto," "a la verga lo otro," over and over again. Without getting into a literal translation, it is an extremely vulgar phrase, roughly equivalent to repeatedly saying things like "fuck that, fuck him" and roughly translated to they can eat a dick, he can eat a dick, they can eat a dick. I was sitting there with three young children who understand Spanish, trying to enjoy eggs and hash browns with my family while listening to this language coming from the kitchen over and over again. That's simply not appropriate in a family restaurant. Eventually, I got up and approached the kitchen staff myself. I politely asked them, in both Spanish and English, if they could please keep the vulgar language down because I had young children with me. The employee who had been using the phrase the most acted as though he didn't understand what I was saying and then pointed me toward another employee wearing a blue polo. I explained the same thing to him -- that we were trying to enjoy a family brunch and could clearly hear the constant vulgar language. Unfortunately, he seemed uninterested, appeared to be in a hurry, and essentially brushed off my concern. I didn't believe he was the manager because I would hope a manager wouldn't handle a legitimate customer concern that way. I later spoke with the actual manager, who told me she would address the issue with the kitchen staff, which I appreciated. The food was still good and our waiter did a great job, so my complaint isn't about them. It's specifically about the professionalism of the kitchen staff and the way my initial concern was handled. My recommendation to families with young children would be to ask to sit as far away from the kitchen area as possible. And if you hear this type of language, say something. Employees should be able to joke and enjoy working together, but repeatedly using extremely vulgar language loud enough for customers and children to hear is unacceptable in a family restaurant.

I grew up in Orcutt, so I've…read moreknown the Swiss for years, but today's meal reminded me exactly why it's such a local institution. The oak grilled open faced rib-eye sandwich was absolutely incredible. I'm not exaggerating when I say it had more flavor than Wolfgang Puck's CUT. The rib-eye was perfectly cooked to the medium temperature I requested, tender enough to bite through without a knife, and seasoned exactly the way Santa Maria style beef should be. So many places are too conservative with the seasoning these days, but they got it just right. Even the bread underneath the steak was perfect. It didn't even need salsa, but of course I tried it both ways. Honestly? I couldn't decide which I liked better because the sandwich was outstanding on its own. We also ordered the linguiça appetizer with garlic bread. The linguiça had that slight char from the grill that gives it so much flavor, and the mustard served alongside it was the perfect pairing. My mom ordered the prime rib sandwich with grilled onions and chose the 50/50 fries and grilled onions. The only minor criticism I have is that it wasn't quite a true 50/50 and could have used a few more grilled onions. Other than that, it was delicious. The pinquito beans have a little kick, so if you're sensitive to spice, keep that in mind. Personally, I wouldn't change a thing. The whole meal took me right back to growing up in the Santa Maria Valley cruising Broadway on Saturday while the entire town smelled like oak fired Santa Maria barbecue. We cook a lot at home, and we're pretty serious about our beef, so eating steak at restaurants is usually disappointing because very few places compare. That's why I was so impressed today. This wasn't just a good sandwich.. it was one of the best rib-eye sandwiches I've ever had. To whoever was running the grill today: outstanding job. You absolutely nailed it. I'll be thinking about that sandwich for a long time.

Then the main course came with our sides, a little pot of salsa and a little pot of beans. The filets were very tender, it not well seasoned. Baked potatoes were fine, but the mixed veggies were tasteless. There may have been some kind of bread, but I don't remember. Service was fine. But waitress really made out. The Hitching Post - Great Food & Family Time!…read more During our visit to see family, we enjoyed a night out at The Hitching Post, a restaurant my family visits often, and it's easy to see why! We started off by ordering three artichokes for the table, and let me tell you, they are TO DIE FOR! Absolutely delicious and a must-order! One thing I love about this restaurant is the service! They have both a dedicated drink server and a waitress, which is amazing. Our drinks were constantly refilled, and we never had to ask for anything. The staff is incredibly attentive and makes sure you're well taken care of throughout your meal. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side and can get pretty loud, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for a romantic date night. However, it's a great spot for a fun family gathering! They also have a cute little outdoor patio area that's perfect for pictures, along with a charming fish pond. Before your four-course meal, they bring out a basket of bread and a veggie platter to snack on, which is such a nice touch! Here's what we enjoyed: My meal: Shrimp Cocktail Salad with Ranch - Loved this salad! So fresh and delicious! 7 oz. Top Sirloin & Scallops with a Baked Potato - Cooked to your liking, full of flavor, and absolutely delicious! Malt Ball Crunch - OH MY GOODNESS! This dessert was to die for! Definitely a favorite! My fiancé meal: Shrimp Cocktail Salad with Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing - Everyone raves about their homemade blue cheese dressing, and for good reason! Salmon & Scallops with a Baked Potato - The salmon was incredibly flavorful, tender, and practically melted in your mouth! Sherbet - A refreshing and delicious way to finish off the meal! Overall, we had a wonderful experience! Between the delicious food, generous four-course meals, outstanding service, and time spent with family, it was a great evening.
