We were cruising through the quiet streets of town as my husband waxed nostalgic about his college days--back when this now-quaint town was even more modest, if you can believe it. As memories swirled, the name Tom's popped into our heads like an old favorite tune, and we knew we had to stop in. From the moment we stepped inside, we were struck by the charm of the place: sparkling clean, well-kept, and exuding small-town warmth. The atmosphere was welcoming, the kind that makes you want to linger a little longer. Staff greeted us with bright smiles and attentive service--quick, courteous, and genuinely kind. I ordered the mushroom burger, and let me just say--this was not your average roadside meal. The burger was perfectly cooked, tender and bursting with savory flavor. A generous helping of sautéed mushrooms and gooey melted cheese blanketed the patty, while crisp green lettuce, sweet vine-ripened tomato, and snappy red onions added the perfect contrast of freshness and texture. It was, without question, the best mushroom burger I've ever tasted. And those onion rings? Divine. Golden, thick-cut, and shatteringly crisp on the outside, with tender-sweet onion inside that melted in your mouth. Each bite was a satisfying crunch of perfection. The portion was large enough for the two of us to share comfortably--though we both secretly wished we didn't have to. My husband went with the classic original burger and couldn't stop raving about it. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, it reminded him of the kind of burgers that made diners legendary. If you're ever passing through this town and consider yourself a burger enthusiast, Tom's is an absolute gem you won't want to miss.

Got to go to Tom's!! At first I did not want to visit due to the menu being formatted in an unfamiliar style, but then I decided not to be deterred by the creativity. (The burger menu is written A-Z and you need to read it carefully to decide which style burger you want). I'm glad I did not stay away. The service was very nice & took the review from four to five stars. The waitress was super busy but she hustled from table to table being so sweet to each person. I had the big long 1/2 pound burger, which is served on a long bun with all the fixings. I also had French fries. I wanted a shake too but they did not have that available. The burger was EXCELLENT!! It was cooked just right, very hot and all the toppings were in perfect balance to highlight the juicy hot flavor of the burger. The fries were very good too. Just your basic shoestring style, very little salt so you can add more if you like. They were served fresh & hot with ranch but there is ketchup on the table as well. Great experience at Tom's, thanks!!!

I haven't lived in Lompoc since the 80's but I'd go to Tom's with my parents once in a while when visiting through the years. Somewhere along the line I forgot about it for some reason -maybe because of the location. But, I was in town recently visiting the siblings and I thought I'd look to see if Tom's was still around and was glad to see it was. I got the burger that my parents always got which is the one with the bacon and grilled green chili (ortega?) in it as did my sister. Her husband was intrigued by the burger with the sauerkraut in it so he gave that a try. We all loved it. Picked up the half order of fries and onion rings. I remember one of the things about Tom's was the gigantic full order of fries. Everything was great and I'm sure we'll be back when we're in town.

After a brief absence from Yelp, I am back! Today, I went to Tom's Burgers. The home of the educated burger. They offer choices from A to Z. Tom's is a large diner with a hometown feel. I ordered the cheeseburger and fries.. Delish! For dessert, I had a cup of coffee with a side of friendship. Whether you order a chicken Cobb salad, clam chowder, a burger, or breakfast, you won't be disappointed. I promise you will leave with a new friend, feel happy, have a full tummy, and still have money in your pocket. Enjoy your alphabetical burger experience, and please look for Jakob. I knew I was in for a treat when the waitress confided in me "we have very good ranch". Me and my kids all throughly enjoyed our burgers. "Possibly the best burger I've ever had!" One of them declared and I have to agree! A rare case where the food looks better than the photos. Even the gum ball machine (normally dry and flavorless) was a hit!

Tom's is one of the better burger joints in Northern Santa Barbara county. The A-Z burger menu makes ordering somewhat experimental - so have fun and order something unusual - otherwise, you'll miss out. The inside is a bit dated - Tom's could use a bit of a refresh. I wouldn't take a date or business partner to eat there, but eating here with a handful of good friends can be a memorable experience. I've been eating at Tom's for 20 years - lots of regulars make Tom's a very busy restaurant. read more

Not without faults, but the sheer volume of the burger varieties and they STILL happily made me a custom build with at least one ingredient not on any of the other burgers. Granting that blue cheese and bacon isn't an unheard of menu selection, they still made and served it to me with a gracious smile, despite its being not on THEIR menu. read more

Wow! From the selection to the taste you couldn't ask for more. Definitely recommend getting the grilled onions. The service was fabulous, I had a blonde lady waiting on me and she was so sweet, always checking in. She provided some of the best burger service I have ever had. Disappointed. So I had to try this place because of the reviews. I'm a local Santa Barbara resident and I go up to Lompoc once in a while and really never had a chance to try this restaurant. I took my family there on a Saturday afternoon and if I had to give it a grade it would be a C. The burgers were average nothing special. The prices were little on the high side for the quality of food you get. I gave the service a C as well. Not because the server was not nice but she was not very attentive. I had to go up and bring my own cup to get refills for my soda twice. After she served the food, she really never came back to check up on us. So for a burger and a half order of fries it came out to roughly about $12. For $12 I can definitely get better burgers and fries elsewhere. read more

Where to begin.... Toms the home of the Educated hamburger is the best. Way better than my hometown burger company. These wonderful ladies treat us like family. Usually remembering our orders quickly. Usually we sit down and dont have to order. Drinks are refilled promptly when they begin to run. Tucked away in a corner, location is a bit cramped by other businesses but surprisingly I had no issues with parking. Loved everything about the feel. It is definitely a nice change from all the chain restaurants that seem to fill every community lately *cough Habit cough*. I ordered the curiosity (peanut butter added to a burger) and was not disappointed. I felt there was a touch too much peanut butter but it was nothing I couldn't fix myself. Otherwise service was prompt and friendly. I would definitely recommend. read more

I don't get to Lompoc more than maybe 3 times a year... but apart from visiting family, the other constant in these trips is making it to Tom's one of the days I am there. An absolute staple of any trip home. I had gone to Tom's fairly often when I was growing up in the town, and I have a few favorite burgers but if I could only go one more time, I would get their "D" Mushroom Burger. It's been a consistent favorite of mine basically since I could ride a bike. There may have been a burger that wasn't my style, but lucky for me they have 25 others (one for each letter). I hope they never close, and if I roll into Lompoc when I'm 50, I can still go grab a Tom's Burger. read more

My new go-to place for my chest meals. I had the Hawaiian burger (add bacon), shared a basket of fries and onion rings with friends-----soooo delicious. The fries were hot, fresh, and crispy. The service was great, Nenna took great care of us. I'll definitely be back! We visited on a Friday evening at 6pm, not too busy at all. read more

Biggest complaint: The burger meat is a thin, sorry excuse of a patty, Think McDonalds thin. For the prices they charge, I'd expect a thicker patty. I had the Don Willis. Wife had the mushroom burger. Both were underwhelming, but everything was prepared properly. The burger toppings were pretty good and the french fries were the closest tasting to McDonald's I've ever had. Very friendly service. The restaurant is in SERIOUS need of an update. It's like time-traveling to 1975. read more

It was the place to go to in high school and it is still the place to go! A to Z burgers, my favorite is the 'M', but every burger I have tried is great. They also have the BEST french fries and great onion rings! Good prices, now they accept credit cards, and staff is always friendly. Absolutely love this place!! Just went to Toms on Wednesday. When we want a GREAT burger, we go to this little burger joint. They have just about any burger from A to Z literally. I've tried the regular, chili, taco, and Avocado burgers. I love them all, but my all time favorite is their Avocado Burger. Their Onion Rings are fabulous and if you're getting fries, the servings are large. As far as service goes, it's always top-knotch, whether you go there for breakfast(which is another amazing experience altogether) or for lunch. Toms has the very best burgers...I'd say even better than the Habit and In and Out! read more

We go almost every Thursday and service and food is always great. Today we had a waitress who I remember never having before. Her name was Jennifer and she was very kind and checked on us for refills and to know if we needed anything. And unless a table is reserved, you can sit anywhere you like. So overall a great experience. read more

A friend of mine from Sweden was visiting and he asked me where he could get a good burger in Lompoc and remembering Tom's from my high school days I thought I would give them a try so I took him there. The A-Z menu was nice and it gave me plenty of options (some might say too many, it was hard to pick one since multiple sounded good). Once we ordered we had plenty of time to talk because it took a very long time to get our food. Along with the wait for food, drink refills were kind of slow but once the food came we didn't complain much. The food tasted great and the fries were really good. Food Tip: Their ranch dressing is great for dipping the fries. The food was well priced but I was annoyed that they didn't take cards. I usually deal in them and I was lucky I had enough cash on me to pay for it or my friend and I would have been washing dishes... Overall I think I would recommend Tom's but remember to bring cash and have plenty of time! read more

Tom's is a GEM in Lompoc. Quirky and fun burgers that are actually good. I have yet to be disappointed with their food. The wait staff is friendly for the most part. Beware: They do not accept cards, and are closed on Sundays(and it seems like whenever else the owner wants to shut down). read more

Tom's is awesome. That's all there is to it. The A-Z menu of burgers is hilarious and creative. I've never eaten there and not been completely satisfied with my meal. The fries are so delicious and the orders are huge! I've ordered a regular order of fries and four of us couldn't finish them. Their ranch is also super tasty and definitely homemade (and they put season all on the tables for the fries -- thank you!). I've tried a number of their burgers and their vegetarian sandwich and loved them all. They have great customer service and are reasonably priced for one of the best burgers you can get. The dining area itself is nothing special, but always clean. The only real downside is that they don't take cards -- cash or check only! read more

Decent, for lompoc. Waitresses are rather offputting and rude. Friendlier to the males. Food here is, frankly, bland and offputting. Meat is dry. Buns taste bland...but what do you expect? This is Lompoc! You thrive only if you know people! read more

I ate here a few years ago after we did some sky diving in Lompoc, I have to say its one of the best burgers I have ever had,EVER!!!!! loved the A-Z alphabet menu, great onion rings, thick thousand island sauce, I would drive from long beach CA to to have a burger from here!! SO good! It's just the perfect burger joint. Everyone needs to come here at least once. The burgers have always been delicious, they have awesome onion rings, even the grilled cheese for the kids are good. I've stolen bits of my oldest son's grilled cheese, it was that yummy. I also think it's worth it to go just and read their menu. Horseradish or sauerkraut burgers, anyone? How about peanut butter? I'll stick to avocado. read more

Tom's is where all the locals go for a great burger (burgers from A to Z...literally) I have tried many of the burgers on the menu (except the Peanut Butter Burger) but I usually go for the letter "F" Burger with Ortega Chiles and I always add mushrooms, Swiss Cheese, bacon, and grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. Sure it's a big messy thing but it is oh so good. Two people can share a half order of fries which are super yummy. Tom's is also a great spot for a simple and delicious breakfast always cooked to your liking. They keep the coffee coming and we have never had a bad experience or bad service. Love this locally owned Mom and Pop Restaurant. read more

I came to Lompoc to visit my sister and she took me here. Best burgers ever! I am from San Jose and there is no place like that around here. They have a burger alphabet! you can put anything possible on any burger. The servers are very nice as well. The onion rings are awesome! read more

We drove over from Solvang on state highway 246, which was nice because we got to avoid the rush hour traffic and construction on 101. The round trip is not bad. The service was excellent. It is normally served with hollandaise sauce, spinach, and mushroom over mashed potatoes. We subbed the potatoes for more veggies. The veggies were well seasoned, salmon coked well, and sauce was a nice compliment. Their Diet Coke cups were huge. They only have one toilet and someone was in there a super long time when we wanted to leave, so plan wisely if you need to go. We had to hold it all the way home. The lot has adequate parking. The bar is only beer and wine. The restaurant is not super visible coming from the east, so listen to your map app when to turn. We had a good experience and would come back when in the area again. Seems like they forgot the order and/or had already shut down the fryer, and just gave me those leftovers when I showed up to pick up the order. But sometimes I have the opposite experience. I want to add, I got a personal pizza here and dough was severely undercooked. I have also seen people keep their food prep gloves on while handling register. Overall seems disorganized, and maybe the owners are better suited to retail than restaurants and should just focus on the gas station.

This location is between other location but its right in the corner and parking is never a problem. The waiter helped us right as we got in and took us to our table. Once inside you can feel relaxed and in a good environment, the waiter was super nice and was excellent when serving us. I got the double cheeseburger with onion rings and i cannot complain, it was super good. My girlfriend got the bacon burger and she also loved it. Next time, Im bringing my family to enjoy a good hamburger and onion rings. read more

I have loved Tom's Burgers since Kim & Tim opened a small burger joint, the home of the educated hamburger, in the Vons Shopping Center. There isn't a better burger (A-Z) or fries anywhere in this town or nearby that beats Tom's! Great food. Fast. The staff are awesome. All burgers are delicious, but a few favs are "W", "X" and a good old Patty Melt. Be adventurous with so many to try from. read more

This is your typical burger joint with a little bit of a flare. If you ask Rick nicely, he'll make you the best bacon avocado burger in town. They're usually not too crowded so not much of a wait. I think the A-Z menu is a little confusing. Some of those are like descriptions and not an item. read more
