If your looking for traditional BBQ, this is not the place. Food came dry and the pulled pork tasted like it just came from a crock pot. When you ask for sauce, there is one kind and that is it. I am not complaining, just not my typical BBQ experience or what I prefer. If this is your type of BBQ, I am sure you will love it. read more

I was incredibly disappointed with the service provided. It took more than 10 minutes before I was even acknowledged and that certainly set the tone. The food was great as usual and it was quickly brought out. Outside of that it appears there are a ton of locals who come in and you can certainly tell they receive better service. I was not asked about a refill or asked if everything was good my waitress who is a mid aged woman with glasses acknowledged me when she took the order and when she eventually brought and picked up the bill. The sad part is it appears as if she may be in charge or at least be a seasoned employee so I can't even come up with a justification for the service I received read more

Tried the Chicago style Italian sausage was pretty good I'm gonna try the beef next time my son had their brisket it looked awesome he said it tasted good with the green beans french fries were good too I always have to have my french fries crispy and they were perfect read more

Was visiting and stopped through for lunch. Greeted by nice ladies at the register. I ordered the brisket and cole slaw platter and it was just okay. I would visit again to try other things on the menu. read more

The food and service was good. But when it came to my kids food we ordered her the kids macaroni and cheese. When it showed up to the table it looked good but it had jalapenos in it. So we asked the server to take it back and get her another one. She came back with the same one saying the owner just changed it up that all the macaroni and cheese going to have Jalapeno in it. She said that she didn't know that they did that . But she was very nice and offered her another Meal and took off the other one. So if you take your kids to eat there and they what the macaroni and cheese make sure to ask if it has jalapenos in it. read more

Just went for the first time and I was really impressed for the most part. The wait staff was very pleasant and very helpful. Fiance and I shared the 3 meat combo. We chose rib tips, brisket, and chicken. It also came with 2 sides and I believe the cost for that was around $12.99. We chose 2 orders of fries for our sides and were disappointed with those. They were dark brown like they were sitting in the oil too long and they were also tastless. Next time we will get mashed potatoes instead. The chicken and brisket were delicious but I personally didn't like the rib tips because they tasted like rubber. All in all we will be back again sometime to give it another shot. read more

Good restaurant, good food, clean atmosphere. The menu is a little confusing but the people are nice. Prices are high but they give a discount to some of the businesses nearby. Overall I would say Tom's is good, but falls short of great. read more

Epic Fail!!!! I hardly ever complain about bad service but these ppl were rude... I came in this facility, no was was at the greeting station or said anything until I got to the ordering window... no welcoming spirit at all, are you dinning in or take out? As I looked at the menu on the blackboard, I said I'll eat at the bar... he said just sit down and I'll bring you a menu.... he really don't know me and what I will do to him with his poor customer service(no violence intended)... so I sat at the bar for 7-9 min watching at least 3-5 ppl get help and no one says a word to me, btw not even the lady that was tending the bar..... the young man who was there(I won't say work), did bring me water....it's hard not to use the race card so I won't but I was the only person of color(BLACK) there, this place left a bad taste in my mouth and a hungry stomach.... I will never ever go there again, the Toms on Southern was wayyyyy different and customer service was superb, but if this is the treatment that is served out, I'll go to a gas station and buy a hot dog and be happy!!!!!! Smh my first bad experience at a place I love at a different location. I had to give 1 star(I guess it was for the water that I didn't drink) read more

Our first time here. Food is yummy and the service is great!! No wonder it's always busy when I drive by ! Definitely coming back

Brisket was very chewy and fatty, meat had a rainbow tint on the surface, overall not good quality meat/bbq

The mushroom and swiss chicken sandwich is delecious! I also enjoy the ribs...very tender and and a real treat to eat! The employees are always friendly and make you feel welcome. I go to Toms about 2 times a month and have never been disappointed. read more

My husband and I were going to get an appetizer and then order a sandwich. We ordered the BBQ Nacho's and couldn't eat any more! It was a PILE of food!!!! The owner, Rick, came out and talked with us, he offered to let us try their "burnt ends" Fabulous! Then our awesome waitress, Amanda, came back with a piece of fish for us to try, phenomenal! We left with a to go box of a burnt end sandwich, a fish sandwich and an order of fried pickles. And a bottle of their BBQ sauce. Their food is amazing, the staff is terrific and friendly. I'm taking everyone I can think of there! read more

Great lunch specials and awesome staff. This place is great when you have a limited time for lunch. Pulled pork is delicious. Not a overwhelming amount if slaw. Great place for lunches. Haven't tried dinner yet. That will be next. read more

Amazing BBQ! I've had most BBQ places around and this place is sooo good! Just yesterday I ordered 6 pounds of meat for a bday party and they had it ready in no time. If you haven't eaten here...do it! read more

This is my second yelp ever... I had to say something about this BBQ. It is most definitely in my opinion the worst I've ever had. I got the 3 meat meal...pulled pork, brisket and sausage w mac n cheese and cornbread as the sides. For 20 bucks the serving size was far from the quantity for the price. The flavor was lacking severely with all the meats and the sausage was pale. I hoped the mac n cheese would be better...I am so sad I want to cry! Mac n Cheese is my FAVORITE food!!!! Can someone tell me if the mac n cheese is the Kraft Shells n Cheese?? It was runny, no flavor, looks and tastes like the Mac n cheese I used to but for my kid when she was young. I have experienced what I consider the best BBQ at JL Smokehouse in South Phoenix...others agree as he was voted best BBQ 2018 and his sides are to die for, it's worth the drive but he is closed on Sunday so I stopped by Toms. I am very dissatisfied, very disappointed and will never return. read more

Toms. One word. Perfect. This is the best BBQ you will find in mesa. Waldo's can't even touch it. Great food, fried zucchini is awesome. Blues plays and lots of flat screens for the sports. Simple and easy. read more

Sarah's my sister and we ate there together the other day . I specifically asked for my beef to be extra extra juicy, with giardiniera...and it came out exactly as requested....enough so that I had to use a knife and fork to eat most of it. The fries were really yummy too, and the service was fast and friendly. Definitely not training table food, but an authentic and delicious taste of the homeland right here in Mesa, AZ. We also loved the classic Chicago memorabilia on the walls and were tempted to try on the foam Bear hat on the cooler, but refrained...perhaps on our next visit??? read more

Excellent food and service. We enjoyed this great food at a wedding this past weekend. Set up very nicely done. I really liked being able to choose the sauce. The three sauce choices, mild, hot and gluten sugar free. Great choices, great sauce and pulled pork. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5, I would have liked an alternative to the potato salad. Allergy to eggs. I would have added potato chips as well as a normal part of the plate. Well done, very reasonable, well set up. Staff was great, friendly, nice, accomadating, fast. Probably the fasted wedding food service I've ever seen. I didn't hear one negative comment from guest. I would recommend for any party, event or wedding. read more

NFL Ticket, open early for Bears games, great staff, full bar, good food! GREAT PLACE TO WATCH THE GAME!

My hubby and came here like we do on Friday nights several times a month for the All you can eat Fish..it was once again Fantastic! Hot, crispy and has the most unique flavor I've ever had!! Tried the Onion strings this time around and they are very tasty and a HUGE portion..Staff is warm and friendly as always...this is our Friday night date night place! read more

Great atmosphere...great food... Even offered us a free piece of fried fish! Fish fry on Fridays! Everything was great! Small area is outdoors with corn hole games and music... Just a great place! read more

food was not worth returning for. Their chicken dinner meal looked like sliced cafeteria chicken. the only thing good about Tom bbq sandwich was the toasted bread. The bbq pork looked like it came out of a blender. Plates and silverware were Styrofoam and plastic. The mac and cheese was and mashed potatoes and gravy was good. read more

Toms seems to have been dropping in quality over the past few years. I keep wanting to go back in the hope that it will be as good as it used to be but it just isn't. This visit will probably be my last. The bun on the pork sandwich was stale beyond belief. I had a Maxwell Street Polish. The grilled onions were still crunchy and the sausage was so dried out it almost had the texture of jerky. The fried pickles were nothing to write home about. The only decent thing we had were the curly fries. Sorry Toms but you continue to disappoint. read more

Just plain old nasty food! Gave it 3 chances since Oct 2012 and April 12, 2013 and they failed miserably each time! I'm just done at this point! read more

I was very unimpressed with the service, the lack of interest that the staff showed to making the meal what we wanted and the quality left much to be desired. I asked to substitute a meat (willing to pay extra if necessary) and the staff would not make exceptions (even when we offered to pay more for the upgrade). I have been going to Toms for many years and I will not be back. Way overpriced for what you get. read more

As this 4 this bbq place it sub-par brisket was very dry and wasn't most like a fantastic brisket should be. The sausage had hardly no flavor the dishes where all right but could of be better. read more

Went to Tom's BBQ and found the place to be very friendly. The BBQ was very good and the portions were just right. I would tell anyone looking for some good old Chicago BBQ should try Tom's. I will definitely go back again and try the ribs next time. Very friendly staff. read more

Wow! If you are looking for a change from the corporate, cookie cutter world and want a place they will remember not just your order but your name, look no further. Go to Tom's! We first came here on a whim and haven't been able to stop going back. The staff was so nice on our first visit and even let us sample some of the fish, that, is delicious! All the ladies that work here are sweet, unique and know customer service. We just love the bartenders pink boots, how the other girls wear flowers in their hair and have pizzazz. What a comfortable atmosphere, perfect for kids or having a cold one after work. Check out this place for great food, friendly people and a fun atmosphere. read more

Several empty tables when we walked in. We found one and waited for several minutes while the bartender and a couple of servers were engaged in conversation and laughter. When none of them waited on us nor even acknowledged us we got up to leave. At last they spoke, when one of them said, "Bye, have a good night!" read more

Saw the truck thought I'd give it a try! Three pulled pork sandwiches, beans, & mac salad for $25+ ... Pork was fair, bread had the texture of 'yesterdays' - mac salad (better at Basha's Deli - The beans were very tasty, swimming in a very smoky tasting yet very thin sauce.. The BBQ meals at the restaurants much better !!.. The young man was very friendly and courteous.. Sorry, but if I see the truck again, I'll pass by .. read more

Food was ok, service was bad. Ordered 2 sandwiches to go. Watched as multiple people who ordered after me got their food and finished it while I was still waiting for mine. When my food finally came out it was dropped on the table with a " here's your food" and she just walks away. Just rude servers here. I won't go back again. This was my 2nd bad experience here. read more

GROSS!!! Worst bbq I ever ate, the sides I got was green beans and Mac and cheese, the green beans would be better cold out of a can, and the Mac and cheese is paste with can cheese dumped on it. People were friendly but the food I threw the sides away and ate part of the meat, read more

Its a neat place but the food is just ok. The portions are good size and the restaurant like I said is a good looking place. But the food just needs a little something extra. I would recommend this place, I've only been twice and would give them another try as it wasn't by any means a bad experience. read more

I ordered the smoked chicken dinner for take out and it was terrible! The chicken was extremely dry and flavorless, despite being completely doused in BBQ sauce. I was starving, so I ate the instant mashed potatoes and cole slaw that came as my side dishes, but the chicken was inedible, so I ended up making some buttered noodles instead. If I had dined in, I would have sent the meal back. Horrible! read more

It's pretty decent bbq. Pretty decent service. Not amazing, but decent. One woman is very rude who works there, and actually snapped at our family so I would not say it is amazing service. read more

We have been going to this Tom's BBQ for many years now and every visit is better than the last! It is one of the only true BBQ joints in town. No matter what you order, you will never be disappointed in the quality of food, scrumptious taste, or friendly service! My favorite is the pulled pork sandwich, we go out of our way to get it and you should too! read more

This location of Tom's is like my "Cheers" go to place. There is always a friendly smile waiting for you and a good vibe. We are fond of their fish fry, and during the cold snap we had a few weeks back, my daughter and I stopped there on a chilly Friday night. We were asked if it was okay to sit on the heated patio, as the inside tables were full. Another couple also came after us and they were also seated outside. The manager and waitresses surrounded us with heaters and warmers, but that night the wind was just not cooperating, and after all of their best efforts and attentiveness, it still was chilly. The manager came out to our tables and told both parties that he would be taking 20% off of our bills to thank us for putting up with the inconvenience of being chilly! I thought that was an awesome move, as we had agreed to sit there in the first place. Still my go-to place for my favorites: fish fry, bbq rib tips, and nachos with pulled pork on homemade potato chips! read more

Dang it, I hate writing bad reviews. Especially when the staff is so friendly and the service is great. But it looks like the owner or manager actually reads the reviews, and I think the problems are fixable, so here goes. So, this was our first visit to Tom's BBQ, after driving past it for years. Finally decided to give it a shot. Very friendly staff, seated us immediately, took our orders. I've never tried Chicago style BBQ, so kept an open mind. I ordered the Saturday special which was St. Louis style smoked ribs with two sides. Was disappointed they didn't have collard greens or okra, but I guess that's a southern thing. So I got corn on the cob and mac & cheese. It also came with a dinner roll. My dining partner ordered the smoked chicken platter with baked beans & potato salad. Everything came pretty quickly, which was awesome cuz we were HUNGRY. But my first complaint is they serve everything on styrofoam plates with plastic knives & forks. Ugh! So not environmentally friendly. I was glad they gave us the sauce on the side. Two different sauces - one spicy, one mild - so I could use just as much as I wanted. The smoke flavor of the ribs was good, however I must admit the meat was rather dry. My corn was fine, but I was disappointed they didn't give me real butter. They use those little Land o Lakes tubs (more plastic for the landfill) and it was margarine. Is that a Chicago thing? Blech. The Mac & cheese was shells with a cheesy sauce like velveeta and it had a warmth to it like maybe some kinda jalapeño thing, which is not my bag. Again, sorry if that's a Chicago thing. My partner's baked beans were fine (he says "I thought they were decent", which is high praise from him), and he really liked the potato salad and the corned bread ("a little dry, but the flavor was good"), but...and this is a BIG but...his smoked chicken came pre-sliced, which I thought was odd. He told me afterward it was processed chicken meat! Not cut from a whole chicken! Is that Chicago style?? Forgive my ignorance if it is, but that was a real turn off. So, hence the 3 stars instead of 5. Yay for the service and the potato salad. read more
