I love this place. I've rented from Tom's several times and never had a problem . they're older cars but they're affordable.

I do not recommend renting cars from this business. While the owner is nice, his vehicles have issues and he is not flexible. Spend the extra $50 or $100 to rent from a professional agency. Believe the other negative reviews here, they are correct. The first car we got has transmission issues and wouldn't accelerate when you stepped into the gas, which is problematic when merging into traffic. In addition, the rear rotors were all chewed up which told me it needed new rear brakes. In addition, the air conditioning didn't get particularly cold. The second car we got had other issues. The air conditioning worked intermittently. When you had the A/C or fan on there was a repeated thumping noise inside the car. The passenger side rear door would not open from inside the car. We checked the child safety lock and that was NOT the issue. Further, the passenger side airbag regularly indicated that it was not "ON" even though I was sitting on the seat. Finally, we continually got a tire pressure warning even though the tires had 31lbs of air in each. I informed the owner, Tom, of each vehicle's issues along the way while they were happening, I didn't spring it on him in the end. Tom was completely unwilling to do anything to make up for the fact that we had to swap vehicles and that the second was nearly as bad as the first. He wasn't even willing to put $35 worth of gas in my vehicle instead of me filling it. I can handle that the cars weren't new (mine aren't either), but I expect them to be properly functional. read more

I can't speak to other people's experiences, only my own. We booked with Tom a few weeks before our trip to Hawaii. I was looking at about $700 for a one week stretch from a mainstream rental car place. I was able to get a full week with a decent car for $250!!! The tires looked a little bald, and it certainly wasn't a brand new car, but the AC worked great, and it did a fantastic job of getting us from point A to point B. I would have been happy to drive a rusty bucket around for $35/day, but we had a comfortable white Buick Encore. Tom was personable and even gave us a ride to the airport when we turned the car in! I realize experiences can be vastly different for people, but I was so impressed with the service and the reasonable cost for a long term rental. I will definitely recommend Tom's place to anyone looking for a reasonably priced rental and will be more than happy to go back myself in the future. Thank you, Tom! read more

Tom was easy to work with before I arrived on the island. I am leasing a car from him for my daughter who moved to Oahu to attend UH and needed a reliable car. There were some issues with the first car we got and easily exchanged it for another one. I was happy to work with Tom. Desiree Sunnyvale, Ca read more

Excellent service! While this may not meet all needs, it definitely works for me. I came to Oahu on a 1 year contract for work. I wasn't sure whether to rent or buy a car. Commercial long term car rentals were coming in at about $1400/month . I also looked into taking over leases. Buying a beater was too much of a hassle, especially with possible maintenance issues. With a contract, I pay Tom $360/month. This covers insurance, registration and maintenance. I can also switch the car for another any time I like . For example, when my family was here , I rented a larger car and when they left, I downsized to something smaller and more gas efficient. I had a small maintenance issue last week and I simply dropped the car off during my lunch break and it was ready when I left work. Tom's cars are older models with high mileage and some cosmetic issues. This was fine with me , but may not work for everyone. If something is wrong with the car , he will pick you up and give you a different car . This is an amazing value for a great service. read more

We rented a car for about 5 days and it was a great deal. The only downside is that the car was pretty dated, but it worked well for our purposes (driving to the North Shore). Highly recommended! read more

Great guy. Car was ok.. great price my friends paid double of what I paid. He even gave me a ride back to the airport. He's a quick 4 miles from the airport. I'm booking with him again in the future. read more

Never mind the bad reviews..friendly staff affordable prices will definitely use again

This is a small auto body shop. They do major and minor repairs along with safety checks. If you got window tints lower than 35% on your car or front windows of your truck, you aint gonna pass. The owner also owns City Taxi and this is where the taxis get repaired so at certain times this place is really busy. They also do rentals for visitors. Customer service is good but parking can be a hassle if its really busy. You might get lucky and have one stall available. read more

Tom's Rental / Honolulu Rental Car DO NOT EVEN BOTHER! How disgusting this business is ran. When I first showed up for the car rental I had asked for I was shocked what a dump it was. I knew it was a low cost but had no clue it was the slums of the slums. I got an Impala the door was falling off as I drove down the road, the tires were spinning out below me, there were cigarettes in the car (never cleaned) and the check oil light came on... WOW so what's one to do when their tires are bald and they almost slide into oncoming traffic and the change oil light comes on? YOU CALL THE RENTAL COMPANY to have it fixed. I called and Tom told me to come in and he would swap cars out. He wanted me to wait a few days so he had a car for me and asked me to call before coming in. The day finally came and I called and went in.... WELL TOM DIDNT LIKE that I wanted the issues fixed and WENT LEGIT APE SHIT senile crazy! He was yelling at me in front of my two young children, and said tires are as is and HIS CARS ARENT GOOD QUALITY that is his business and he cant guarantee safety thats the way his stuff is and you need to live with it. Umm ok I was shocked as for the oil change.... he hopped in the car hit a button and va la problem fixed (or is it since he never did an oil change) Tom said nothing was wrong with the bald tires hmm ok well I was sliding around all over Hawaii like I was on a slip n slide with oil drizzled on top... The mechanic pointed it out to Tom that the tires were worn and took them off and later to find out oh the alignment was off too which caused the tires to be worn. Well Tom didnt like that a WOMAN was right and chased me down the street as I headed off to have these problems fixed. He yelled at me once more and told me "to take fix my face it's not a joke" UM DELUSIONAL I guess my RBF wasn't cutting it for him. Think this is embarrassing for a business IT GETS BETTER! As I head back after waiting for car to be fixed (with 2 kids in tow) he comes out and puts tires on car and says I can no longer have the car (no refund notta) here I am stranded in the shit hole of all shit hole areas with 2 kids a husband deployed and NO RIDE and no rental. HOW can any man pride himself on being a good human being or gentalman by acting in such manner.... I was disgusted and even more pissed that my 2 boys saw a man treat a woman in that respect what a disgrace.... NEEDLESS to say here I am warning you to save your money and go else where before you end up stuck on the side of the road with crappy service or better yet wasting your money that goes to some disrespectful man who has no care in the world for others.... SHAME ON YOU TOM.... read more

Older vehicle rental for a great price! Pleasant customer service and a simple rental process. In and out to start your vacay!!

Unsafe and dirty rental cars. Based on quality of rentals, there's no way I would pay to have work done on my own vehicle here.

The person I talked to on the phone was the rudest person I have ever dealt with. I was just asking on prices and insurance. Didn't even give me a chance to finish my questions. I would never spend my money here and that is before I have even seen the place. Absolute zero rating. Lori L read more

This is the cheapest rate in town I could find and you get what you pay for. My car broke down on the highway and I was stuck on the H1. I tried booking with other rental agencies but everyone was booked. It was a nightmare to put it nicely read more

You are getting what you pay for. Yes the cars are 10 years old and not in the best shape, but it's also $350 a month. If you want a brand new car then go to enterprise and pay triple. Tom was super nice and this was perfect for two travel nurses just needing something to get around. We never had any problems, and he offered to let us trade the car anytime we wanted. read more

I leased one of Tom's cars for about 7 months while working on Oahu as a travel nurse. The monthly price was super reasonable, significantly cheaper than using a rental car company and cheaper than any cars listed for rent by individuals in travel nursing facebook groups. I was allowed to keep the car as long as I wanted and any issues I had were fixed promptly by Tom and his employees. AND when I lost my keys they duplicated and programed their spare and drove it to me in Manoa within 2 hours, on a weekend. Their rental fleet isn't fancy but if you're on a budget, looking for something for an extended period of time or don't want to deal with the hassle of having a car shipped from the mainland, Tom's is fantastic. read more

I rented a car from this exceptional business, From the first phone call I made to them from Florida to the day they dropped me off at the airport , it was Excellent Customer Service. I needed to take a cab from the airport when arriving but that was only a 10 minute ride The car was clean & ready.Tom checked to make sure the cab had not overcharged me. How nice is that? After one week I called and extended the rental. No problem. The car was not new, but at these rates, who cares. It ran with absolutely no problems. I will only rent from Tom's each time I come to Oahu. I recommend this business to everyone! read more
