This place is pretty solid. It's probably the best Thai place within the 5 mile radius of Sunnyvale and mountain view. Food I ordered a medium spicy pad Thai noodle and it was a tad bit more on the spicy side. I guess they saw I was Asian so they gave me super spicy. lmao. Anyway, on another occasion I also ordered the green curry with rice and I had to say it was pretty solid as well. The second time I was adamant for them to not make the dish too spicy and they did get it right. PLACE This restaurant is pretty small. It's still a nice place for smaller groups to just eat, chill, and drink beer. The service is pretty solid as well with the waiters constantly checking up on us. PARKING Parking is a little difficult. Because it's a smaller restaurant, spaces are limited. If you cannot find parking, I would suggest for you to find Street parking. First time eating at this place. Ordered 2 items, pad thai and pad see eww from Grub hub. The food came pretty fast, ill say about 35 mins. I start eating the pad see eww and about the 4th time i dig the fork into the food i found a piece of hair. I was starving so i tooked out the hair and finish the remaining food. The pad thai was for my Gf and she enjoyed it since she was actually the one who recommended the placed because she ate her a few times but this will be my last for sure. At first it was Foster's Freeze? Then it was FPD Pizza. Then it was Mr Chau's, then it was Mr Chau's + BBQ. Now it's Tommy T's, which is somewhat related to Mr Chau's, but may have changed ownership. When Tommy T's first opened, they had moved Mr Chau's Buffet into the back where you couldn't see it. It seriously deserved a 1 or 2 star review. But sometime in the last year or so, something changed. For the better. The quality of food now, is pretty amazing and tasty. This is the best food that's ever come out of this building. I regularly order the Spicy Garlic Prawns, the Mongolian Beef and their Spicy Fried Rice. The prawns are always cooked to perfection. I've had it on at least a dozen occasions now, and it is really a plate to impress. Large prawns, spicy, perfectly cooked, all the time. WTF? If you like Spicy, this place is delicious, but it's never too spicy, even when I tell them "extra spicy". But it's not weak. And I'm not one of those people that can eat raw habanero or anything. There's a ton on the menu, and I've already found what I like here so I don't experiment much. I like specific things from specific places, but damn, the food here, NOW, is great! Some time ago, this was a simple buffet with food trucked in from one of the other Mr Chau's (most of which have closed down now). Now they're making food to order, and it's delicious. The place is small, the building is old, but the food is excellent. If you haven't been here recently, the older reviews don't really count anymore. As Mr Chau's, I would give this a 2 star rating only because it was cheap and if you went there at the right times the food would be fresh. As Tommy T's when it first opened, I would give it a 1 star rating for having the same old grubby food, only you can't see how long it's been sitting around. If you've haven't been here in the last several months, be prepared for some really excellent food. It's definitely worth taking a trip back here now, even if you didn't like it before. read more

This is currently our go-to restaurant in Mountain View when we are craving Thai Food. The service is great and you get great bang for your buck with their large portion sizes. I ordered the penang curry with rock cod. I never tried this combination before but was tempted to order it when I was browsing and came across a fellow yelper's pic. Good thing I checked! They are super generous with their meat. I found myself devouring the rock cod since it blended so well with the curry, and always seemed to find more fish in my dish before I was fully stuffed! A warning, this curry can get a bit thick throughout your meal since it is heavily cooked with coconut milk. but still, a very delicious meal. My bf always orders the cashew nut chicken and it seems to always be on point. This dish is filled with peppers, onions, and chicken with the added crunch from the cashew nuts. This dish is more on the sweeter side and I always find myself digging for the cashew nuts since it is one of the ingredients that does not get drenched in the sauce. Note that these entrees do not come with rice. Remember to order a side of rice! read more

I tried the fresh rolls, pad thai, and Char Kreoung with rock cod. It was all tasty, with the Char Kreoung being the best of the lot. The combination of big chunks of fish, lemongrass, celery, and bell peppers really went well together. This was one of the first Thai food restaurants I've been to and it made me want to try more Thai food even more!! I got the spicy garlic butter noodle with beef and medium spiciness. The noodles were cooked very well along the the peppers. The medium spiciness wasn't very spicy and that is coming from a white boy. Even though it wasn't very spicy it had a great taste to it. Been here before, food was pretty good so i gave it another chance. I remember the fried rice being a let down so that is a knock against them, but they are a Thai place, so Thai it is. Avoid! Their 'chicken' does not taste like chicken. I ordered the red curry and the 'chicken' was slimy and had a very odd spongy texture. I don't know how they prepare it, but it is not like anything I've had before. I read the reviews here on yelp and see that other people are also asking the same questions about the meats that they received. We ordered take out from here and all of the food was really great!! For appetizers we had the spring rolls and garlic tofu. The spring rolls were really tasty and crispy. The garlic tofu was good, but did not feel garlicky enough. It felt more like just fried tofu, but if eaten with their spicy sauce it tasted good. First time eating here. We were craving Thai food, so we stopped in for take-out. The order was correct and it was made in the time as they provided. The only issue we had was they did not provide us with chop sticks or napkins, I had to get them myself, they also did not have bottled water. The food was very well made and filling. My company orders lunches from many locations but Tommy Thai has been a regular. The food is prepped quickly and delivered to us in a timely mannerly and usually arrives before the estimated time. I've heard from my coworkers that the Pad Thai at Tommy Thai is really delicious and should be given a try if ever at this location. However, I've never eaten it so I can't judge it for myself. The item that I always order is the Pineapple Fried Rice with medium spice. I absolutely love the Pineapple Fried Rice. It has a perfect amount of spice and flavor. The lunch portion always fills me up. Why I gave this location 3 stars is because even though my food is delicious, it still has some flaws. I'm not crazy about the chicken that they use. Not sure what it is but it just doesn't seem like chicken at times. Also, the amount of oil that is used for this dish is insane. My friend and i stopped by this restaurant before we headed off to an event of ours. The food here was good and they actually make it spicy if you ask! We ordered the pad se ew and the pineapple fried rice. The prices are average for a thai restaurant about $8-10 for each dish. The pad se ew was perfect and spicy just how i like it. This restaurant gave one of the worst service experiences I've had from a restaurant. They clearly don't care about their customers. My family and I ordered three entrees from here through DoorDash. Upon arrival, the delivery man said that Tommy Thai told him that they had called us to remove one entree. Tommy Thai never called us. One entree was crossed off the receipt and was not in the bag. So, we called Tommy Thai to ask about our missing entree. Here is the conversation: Tommy Thai said they were out of asparagus and could not make that entree. We asked why they didn't call to tell us this. They said, "We were too busy to call." (Side note: That's not a valid excuse. You don't change an order, let alone not even complete the order, without at least attempting to consult the customer first.) After telling them we have three people to feed, they offered another entree. We answered, "Yes." I'm not joking here--they replied, "Sorry, we're too busy." At this point, we asked how to get our money back for the missing entree. Absolutely horrible customer service. How can you just not make an entree without calling first? Also, why offer a replacement entree when you're supposedly too busy to even make one? We're definitely not going to this restaurant or ordering food from here through DoorDash ever again. read more

I got to-gos from this place multiple times. They're usually done in 15-20 minutes and got good Thai food. I've had Green/panang/yellow curry and roti - they're all great. You gotta be careful with spice level though, sometimes medium is just too hot (for a spice lover like me :P). I usually stick with mild and just enjoy other flavors :) P.S.: my other review about the long food wait time at the restaurant was only true for the weekend dinner. Food is fantastic! I reccomend the pad thai, super tasty. Their thai tea is also very authentic and one of the best thai teas I have had to date. Why the 1 star review, you say? The service is absolutely horrible. The waiter only came up to us when we flagged him down. It took him 20 minutes to return from the kitchen and bring us our check. He was the opposite of friendly and seemed annoyed when we had to ask him for things that he should have done on his own, like filling our water glasses. On top of this, due to our party of 5, we were charged an 18% gratuity on our $110 bill. So, we forked out about $20 as a forced tip for service that my blind dog could have done better. I would not sit down here and get food, but a take out or Uber Eats/Postmates service would be a good idea. Food: 9.5/10. Service: -5/10. Hopefully they get new wait staff. Dinner was disappointing and so salty. This place is run by a Chinese family. We ordered a Cambodian curry dish, a fried rice and a Thai curry. They all tasted the same and had the same yellow color. Seems like all the dishes used the same yellow curry powder. The curries were too salty (I like salty food). However, this was uneatable without a lot of rice. Overall, the food didn't taste authentic - more like Thai food made by Chinese people. Compared to other authentic Thai places in Mountain View, Tommy Thai is an imposter. The best Thai place in Mountain View is still Shana. I also like Krung Thai next to Trader Joe's. read more

This review is based on take-out only and my first time trying Tommy Thai. Will update further after more visits. Since this was the first time at this restaurant, I played it safe with typical dishes like Pad Thai, Spicy Basil Chicken, Red Curry Beef, Papaya Salad, Chicken Satay, and Roti. The order was ready at the promised time and overall the flavors were excellent. If you don't like too much heat, order "mild" as the "medium" was still relatively spicy. Even the Papaya Salad had quite a bit of heat, but was delicious. The Roti was the only disappointment, but a pretty minor one. At 6:15 on a Monday night, there were only two customers in the place, but I'm hoping they have other busier times as they are better than most MV area Thai restaurants I've tried. Will definitely be back to try some of their Lao and Cambodian inspired dishes as well. UPDATED April 2014: We've been back to Tommy Thai a few times since the original post and while it's a solid choice, I don't think it still merits 4 stars. The last couple of times the levels of flavor and spice were pretty bland for thai food. Tommy Thai is a decent, middle-of-the-pack choice among the thai restaurants in the area, but it's nothing particularly special. read more
