According to my son we need to drive all the way 4 hrs back to the Frio just to eat here!!!…read more We were looking for something on the way home and this popped up. It had good ratings, even though the building looks like an old trailer home. A friend said "oh yes its sooooo good, we love it!" So in we went! Our group got a lil of everything to try. There was six of us total and we run around the table and gave our rating out of five stars and everybody gave it above a 4.5. Some of the food was fantastic!! -- recommend the chicken fried steak 100%, taco was good as well, rice and beans good!!! Enchiladas with CHILI GRAVY was good, but you have to request that - would not order it the way they serve it again though because they use like cream of chicken soup and it was awful. BBQ was good, sauce was good! My friend raves about the potato salad! Wouldn't get biscuits again, very dense and not really my fav, but saw other reviews loved it. Chorizo and egg was decent - cant really mess that up just wish for a softer tortilla Overall, we will definitely be stopping in here again. Next time we go to the river, but I would just stick to the barbecue and chicken fried steak because those were absolutely amazing.

They i formed us of their specials which made ordering more challenging as it all sounded delicious. We decided to each order something and pick of each other. That was a good idea as everything was flavorvul and delicious. All food was served hot and quickly after seating. Everything was filling and we look forward to coming back on our next camping trip for lunch.

I hate I can only give 5 stars! So glad my wife saw a Tic Tok posting about this place. It is in a…read moresmall town and don't sneeze when you get close because you will drive right by. Very rustic country location and once inside you know you are in a Texas country BBQ. Staff was friendly and helpful choosing our food. They suggested going with the family portions to share which was perfect. For 3 people we ordered 1/2 lb each of lean brisket (moist also available), turkey, and garlic sausage. For sides we went with coleslaw and charro beans. Way too much food for us, but perfect for a large leftover plate. Consensus of all three of us was: -Brisket had a perfect blackened crust, with a good red smoke ring. Very little fat and still very moist meat. 7 of 5 stars! -Turkey was well seasoned, very flavorful, and smoked to perfection. 6 of 5 stars! -Garlic sausage was the home run here. When we ordered they only had the garlic one left. I was hesitant to order expecting a strong garlic flavor. It was the perfect garlic hint of flavor with the amazing in-house made sausage. Outer skin had a snap when you bit into it and the flavor of the sausage is a melody of bbq flavor that overwhelms the taste buds. 10 of 5 stars! -Coleslaw was vinegary with some fresh sliced red pepper and fresh jalapeños which was a good touch. 5 of 5 stars. -Charro beans were flavored to perfection. 5 of 5 stars. -And we can't forget the bbq sauce. This was the perfect pairing for the meat. Obviously house made with the perfect balance between spicey and sweetness. Wife and I both said it was the best we ever had. Blows away the sauce from our favorite bbq location here in San Antonio. Another 10 of 5 stars! Fresh squeezed lemonade for all of us and they brought us free refills. Probably the best bbq we have had....ever!

Brisket and burnt ends were both top notch. Smoke ring on the brisket and peppery crust on the burnt ends. They had some specials that looked amazing too. We thought in our first time here we should sample the staples ....brisket, burnt ends and turkey. (also tempted by the confit sausage...) The side of beans we got was also made with love. Lots of depth of flavor. We split some of the homemade desserts as well and both the cookie and butter cake were great.

Texas is known as having the best barbecue in the country! We all hear about the big names that…read morestretch from Austin to Dallas to Houston. I've been to probably all of them. Well, there's another one called "City Market" that skipped right past me. Or, no one thought to tell me. It's one or the other because this place is pretty popular with lines out the door! So I heard about City Market BBQ, the same day I drove to Luling, Texas! It's an hour outside of Austin. City Market is in the downtown area, and parking was a breeze; the line I saw on the sidewalk coming from City Market, I must admit, was long, but it was a breeze, too. Now, this is on Wednesday, not the weekend. I hopped in line, the line moving fast. People are friendly, telling me that once I'm inside, there's another door I will go into to place my order. I like to call this the secret door with all the good smells of smoky barbecue. Check out my pictures of the secret door; you can't even see inside. I'm there, I made it inside, and there's 3 of the most friendly older gentlemen I will ever meet in my life. One of them caught on that I haven't been in a kitchen, never in my life, when he started asking if I wanted 1/4 of brisket. I whispered, "Give me three or four, because I'm not good at math either." Oh, we had a great laugh! I sat down, picked on a rib, and the meat slid from the bone! It was so tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The skin had the right burnt in the right spots. The meat was moist and easy to chew. I was like the Flintstones cleaning the bones before I bit into my sausage and brisket. The sausage was very good, and my brisket was smoky, like my ribs. I have to brag about the sauce. It came in a skinny bottle. It was a new flavor for me; it wasn't spicy, but it had a nice heat to it that I loved! I'm so happy I chose to ride down to Luling to visit City Market as soon as I heard about this BBQ place. I would have been so mad at myself if I had waited and forgotten!

City Market in Luling was established in either 1957 or 1958, depending on the source. The…read morerestaurant's own website says "Established in 1958," and most historical references use 1958. So as of 2026, the barbecue place is about 68 years old. It's considered one of the classic old-school Central Texas barbecue joints and still operates much like a traditional meat-market-style BBQ house. This is an older building, including bathrooms... One of which was not working. Was disappointed that their sides include potato salad, and beans only because when I go to barbecue, I love Colliard greens, potato salad, beet salad, etc. not available here. The brisket slice I had likely the best piece of brisket I've ever had in my life. Now... Don't go crazy. I don't eat brisket typically when I do barbecue. The rib that I had was decent. The sausage I had by comparison to other barbecue places was unfortunately the worst that I've ever had. I'm not sure what grind they use, but it seems like it was more beef and somewhat sweet to my pallet which I personally don't care for in sausage. Overall, if I just wanted brisket, I would return but next time I'm in Luling I likely will go to the place right next-door to them and try them.
