This was some of the best HEB BBQ brisket I have ever had. I have eaten the BBQ at 3 other HEB'S and this location has been the best by far. Usually you know that you are going to get okay BBQ at these HEB locations, but this was a little step up. Pleasantly surprised. If through the area again, I would get BBQ here again. read more

So funny story, a couple years back my sister is living in Texas. I go to visit and she tells me that she's going to take me to the best bbq in Austin. She took me to the Whole Foods. So when I came back to Texas, I was passing the HEB and stopped to get some bbq from their deli. Lemme tell you, it far exceeds the Whole Foods that we had. For grocery store bbq, I prefer this one. We stoped here as we were on the way to Mission, Texas. For a restaurant inside of a grocery store it was decent. We both had lean brisket and it was lean and tender but a bit dry. The fatty cut is no doubt more moist. The rub seems be be pretty much all black pepper. I love black pepper and add it to most foods but this was really too much pepper. As I was leaving the store I saw another person ordering sliced brisket to go and he had the bark cut off, which was smart. The cornbread is nice - smokey and spicy, but the piece is too large. Talk about a pleasant surprise! Who would've thought that the best brisket around is at HEB in Pleasanton? Their name couldn't be more accurate. When I took my first bite of the brisket I heard the angels sing. The flavor on the bark is outstanding. No sauce required becacause the brisket is seasoned perfectly. It is moist and flavor and melts in your mouth like butter. How is it possible that I have never heard of this place and why is it not at every HEB? I feel as though I have missed out because I could have been eating here so many times, prior to now. The macaroni and cheese is also really good. The sausage is really good. The potato salad was ok. I've seen a few H-E-B with a True Texas BBQ and I've been intrigued. I was in Pleasanton, Tx and craving BBQ. I saw True Texas and did not know of any other BBQ place around I decided to give it a shot. I ordered the 3-meat plate (in order to try multiple meats for research of course) that consisted of lean brisket, sausage and BBQ chicken breast. The plate comes with two sides, pickles, onions and bread. The sides I choose were potato salad and coleslaw. The brisket was a little fatty for lean brisket but had great crust and flavor. The sausage (pork/beef) was a little heavy on pepper. The chicken breast was moist and flavorful. The sides were so-so. I'm a fan of mustard/Mayo based potato salad and this one was primarily mayo based and used red potatoes. The coke slaw was mayo based, but not too creamy and not too dry. If you're into sauce with your BBQ there were options (Texas style and Sweet). Overall I'd try it again! read more

Wow! The pork ribs stole the show. They were perfectly cooked and perfectly delicious. I also ordered the moist brisket and it had a bit too much fat for my liking. I'll probably try the lean brisket next time. The beans were good and the coleslaw was okay. The ribs were 5 stars and the brisket was 3 stars, therefore I had to give it 4 stars. Words can not express how sad I am that every HEB does not have a smokehouse inside. All the meats are smoky, moist and seasoned perfectly. I love that it's not overly salty like all the other places in town. Don't believe me? Take a sample of they have some out or just ask any one of the friendly staff behind the counter! I was very surprised with the brisket here, it was great. The first thing I tried was the Brisket Sandwich, it was amazing. Very juicy and filling. The price is amazing. The second time I went I couldn't decide what to get. The lady behind the counter was great and gave me some samples to help me decide. This is located inside HEB. I tried this with my mother who was visiting from out-of-state and really wanted "Texas" BBQ. We both got brisket- it was perfect. The sauces were good, too.
