This is a great fine. I highly recommend stopping if you are in Pearsall. This reminds me of what Bill Miller's would have been if it was a small shop. I came here late at night but the service was still outstanding. It look like they grill in the back so you actually have to barbecue pits on site. Even though I did not try any desserts they did look amazing and homemade. Side note: the friend that introduced me to this place told me a brief story. They were heading to a family's house in the area ad was requested to stop for a pie the day before Thanksgiving. Not only d did they have desserts they were fresh out of the oven. The pies were so hot the manager actually gave them the Pyrex dish to take with them and asked that they drop it off on their way back. A true testament to their customer service. read more

After driving around forever on a Saturday(every dang restaurant was closed on a weekend in Pearsall, Tx!!!!), we found this bbq place. Again our rule is , if it's empty on a weekend, think twice. We were starving, and had driven back from Laredo and didn't want to keep driving. First, the staff was amazing! I have to start with at least one positive. Which I hate to say, is wish I judged in only service. This was one of driest briskets I've had in a looonnnng time. I mean I had to take a drink after every bite or douse it in sauce. Man I wanted to like this place soooo much... the Sausage tastes almost 99% like the one from bill millers, which is not necessarily a good thing. It also was not spicy at all. The beans....all I tasted was black pepper. That's it. Nothing else. My order wasn't completely a waste, as the turkey I I order was right up there with some of the best I've ever had. It was perfectly seasoned and way juicer than the brisket. Go figure! My son on the other hand, over his grilled cheese brisket sandwich. I took a bite and agree it wasn't bad. The rice was good, he got it as a side. Seems we've had bad luck lately with brisket. To my cousins in Florida, not ALL Texas's bbq is great. read more

Just cannot afford to eat there anymore. They are selling it by the pound or by the ounce. I did like it once in a while as a treat. And I would like to go back if they can set a price. The old owners pricing was set. I feel bad because I went in, ordered my plate, went to prepay, saw the price $24 and decided that it was too much and left. I was polite. I felt pretty small. I've eaten here twice, and plan on going back again and again. The regular brisket plate, with spicy sausage, was fantastic. The BarBQ sauce was served on the side, which is the way I prefer. Everyone has their own opinion about BarBQ, but I really liked the sauce, the brisket and, (surprisingly for me), the spicy sausage. My sides were cold slaw and Mac and cheese. I would have liked to try the coconut cream pie, but was too stuffed to go back and order it. I should have requested a carry out box, but the food tasted so good, I kept eating until it was gone. The folks serving the food were very polite and friendly. The restaurant was clean and pleasing in appearance. i paid $55.00 for three meals, but that's less than $20 per person, for the food and drinks for a dinner meal. So while my daughter and my parents and I were traveling to Mexico we saw a sign for this place and none of us wanted fast food. We stopped and gave it a try, it is about half a mile or so of I35 not a big deal. We came in on a Friday I believe, it was just us and some ladies that were at the order window. Nice little place, clean wooden decor. Service was good, gentleman took our order and young lady assisted him and for us our sides. They offer the brisket however you want it, sausage in different flavors, pork, and turkey. I went for the brisket chopped of course for me. It was good, I like to taste the smokiness in my brisket a little and I just didn't get that with this brisket. Meat was good and tender, just the right amount of fat, nice bark on it. Potato's salad was actually good as well, and this is coming from a guy who has a huge dislike for potato salad. Over all prices were good, service was good and we enjoyed our meal. It was just that lack of smokiness to the meat for me. Just because they lack that for me doesn't mean they don't serve good food. My mother liked it since she doesn't like the smokiness in her meat. I had a rib plate and it was very good the ribs were so tender the Mac n cheese isn't homemade but not bad kinda threw the plate off and I'm not sure what pickles they use but they are so good! The second time I went I had a pulled pork sandwich it was a bit dry but had good flavor I would like for them to add a bit more juice/sauce to the meat I think that would help a lot. Now I'm not from Texas so I'm use to my bbq establishments having pork shoulder plates.. i was disappointed to learn that's not something that's on the menu around here. Service was great and the guy at the window was patient while I decided on what to order so that was nice. read more

I have been eating at Cowpokes for at least ten years. I have never had a bad meal here. The food is always prepared fresh and I don't understand the complaining reviews about the food having no flavor. Smoke is a flavor and the brisket here has plenty of it. I have always had to leave here with a to go box because the portions are so large. I'll admit that I have only ever eaten the brisket. It's something I look forward to when working in Pearsall. It's always moist and well-cooked. I also usually only get the potato salad and cole slaw as sides. Both are very good and fresh all the time. The restaurant is always clean and comfortable. The staff are very attentive. The prices are average for a Texas barbecue place. read more

The amount of brisket on the sandwich was sufficient and flavorful, but a little tough. The sauce was very thin and I didn't care much for it. The cole slaw was excellent: I just wish I had gotten more of it for my $2.15. Certainly worth the drive from Dilley, but not from San Antonio. read more

Well, where to start. I have never had brisket or sausage that was kept in a warmer that looks like a popcorn machine. Very dry brisket. Over cooked sausage. Most BBQ places keep the brisket wrapped until they cut it. Not here, hence the dryness. It had a decent taste but would taste better if kept wrapped and moist. I'm a pretty good judge of good bbq and this place sure serves up some good cue! I live in San Antonio but make my way down here every once in a while. First, the brisket is better than the sale lick and can compete with all of the Austin bbq eateries. The sides aren't the best but the potato salad is pretty good. The bbq sauce is good and tangy, and can be served on the side. I love the hours, 8:30am-8:30pm because who doesn't like a good piece of brisket for breakfast?! read more

I eat here once a week and it's great BBQ. The most tender smoked turkey you'll find anywhere. The spicy sausage is good as well. I'm not a fan of the brisket and bone-in chicken is too much trouble for me. I've had colleagues order some of the meat sandwiches and they are overstuffed and look fantastic. Like many BBQ places, it's cafeteria style so it's one of the quickest choices in town when you're on a tight schedule. The staff are all friendly and they don't come around bothering you like at some buffet places. Only giving 4 instead of 5 stars because the sides are a little bland and you get tired of them quickly if you eat here on a regular basis. Still, it's about the only place in Pearsall to get a healthy plate of food (order the sliced turkey lunch plate with green beans and brown beans, and skip the bread and sweet tea). read more

First, be aware before you go in, this is not a sit down place. It is a counter style system where you walk up, order, put your food on a tray, then go sit down. I had the chicken. It was really good, although, I like good tasty sauce. the barbeque sauce was not particularly flavorful and a bit too watery. my lunch mates had brisket and said it was good. everyone had a different side, I tried the cold slaw. it was some of the better slaw I have had. the place itself was kinda dirty, with fly paper on the walls, with dead flies. but then, you are out in the middle of nowhere so it was decent considering and if in Austin, would likely get good business and just be called "divey" read more
