August 14, 2026 7pm. Checking out, Alma was cashier. She is throwing/ slamming my groceries throughout the checkout process. I wanted to ask her to stop but before I could she slams my fruit bowl down and it comes open. Of course I didn't want the fruit anymore because her hand slipped into the fruit. Needless to say I was upset and just wanted to be through and leave. She seemed to not want to be there and agitated. I felt really uncomfortable with the whole checkout process. Now here we are on Saturday August 29, 2026 at 2pm and I am at self checkout this time because I really don't want to have anything similar to last time. Never really have a problem when I check myself out. Well, some items didn't ring up as they should have and of course I ask for help. An african-american lady (didn't get her name) just came on duty and she just looks at me, so I say some Items aren't right. Not one word comes out of her mouth, so I continue to say what the problem was. She proceeds to put in some dollar amounts and again without a word walks off. I'm like ok whatever as long as she corrected the issue. I pay and leave and when I get to my car the receipt isn't showing the right prices after all. I have no clue what this employee did but did not correct the issue. Now I'm finding myself walking back in to just get a refund because I'm being blown off anyway and just don't want to deal with these rude people that don't seem to want to work anyway. It's getting to where I don't care to shop here anymore because it is getting uncomfortable when it comes time to checkout. It's unfortunate because a shop here at least once a week because the store's down the street. I would advise getting rid of the sour grapes before they ruin the whole bunch. read more

Ordered my birthday cake last week I asked specifically for fresh strawberries and whipped cream white cake for Saturday, November 15 for myself totally disappointed for strawberry from the top. Nothing inside not even whipped. It was butter disgusting. read more

I stopped by the store on the evening of 10/29/24. As I was shopping around unsure of what I wanted to make for dinner, I decided I'd get some fried chicken from the deli. I approached the counter and asked Polly if the chicken that I pointed to was buffalo chicken. She looked at me as if I was bothering her and said, "huh?" Po ting to her ear. I repeated my question, "is that chicken buffalo chicken?" Her response was, "I don't know." My response to her response was, "do you not know what you cook or are selling? She then said, "it looks like it." I then told her to forget it, I'd go else where. I put the few items that were in my cart, back and left the store. I went down the street to Krogers and got exactly what I needed. If this is the kind of customer service that is always being provided by Polly, then I will just continue to go shop elsewhere. read more

I've been shopping at this store for well over 20 years now. I began noticing items I bought and brought home were out of date or expired. After being burned a few times I called and brought it to managements attention, I cannot say I really saw any changes. I continue to find items expired but in my experience I continue to "dig". Recently I've had encounters with a service manager named Adriana. I cannot believe this girl is in the position she is in. I don't think she even owns a smile! My fist encounter was witnessed by a family member in which I had a $25 off coupon linked to my rewards card and the girl at the checkout swiped the store card and not my own which resulted in my not getting the $25 off. I went to the service desk to have this corrected in which Adriana came flying out of the back door yelling at the employees around me, approaching me with a disgusted look. I explained what had occurred and her reaction was anything but pleasant. I ended up taking back my receipt and told her I would use my coupon the following week as I do shop at this store every week, no big deal the $25 was saved the following week. This last weekend really threw me for a loop. I buy groceries for the week when I shop and typically have a very large basket that contains anywhere from $200 to $300 worth of groceries. I had not finished loading my groceries on the belt when I heard the girl checking my purchases say "ma'am we need your cart". I had my daughter on the phone and was trying to get the last of the items on the belt. I then heard another lady yell loudly "ma'am we NEED YOUR CART!" in which I responded "I'm coming, I'm coming". I told my daughter "I'm being yelled at at Tom Thumb, I'll call you back." NEVER in my life have I been treated so rudely! When I turn to look at who had just yelled at me, there stands Adriana with the same smug look on her face as I'd encountered a few weeks ago. For starters, who yells at the customer!? Secondly, there are other carts right outside the door that would have served the purpose of holding what was currently on the belt while I continued to load the rest of my groceries! In essence am I being yelled at for buying too many groceries and filling up the belt!?? I turned to Adriana and said "you know, I would think you would be a little nicer to someone who spends well over $1000 a month in here." Her response (again no smile much less a pleasant look) "well we thank you for that and I was not yelling. You could be a little nicer." Did I hear that right? She just told me, I could be a little nicer? I am a 54 year old grandmother of two, God fearing woman who just recently had a near death experience and I'm walking through life now with a smile on my face, yet "I" could be a little nicer? I just turned my back to Adriana and faced the girl at the checkout whose lane I have gone through several times in the past and asked if the manager was still here. "No, he's already left". I could hear Adriana behind me continue to rant, at this point I just tuned her out and proceeded to pay my $260 bill and leave the store. Once I got in my car I then called my daughter back and broke down in tears. The only reason I will step foot back in this store is to pick up my last prescription (1 of 7) that I have and my business is going elsewhere along with my prescriptions. I went in last night on 9/29 and at 7 PM, I was standing at the deli for about 10 min, while noticing how old the deli food looked and hasn't even been stirred up or anything in who knows how long and contemplating ordering at all, but still rang the bell twice and there were two girls that looked at me and just ignored me, so eventually just went to the customer service counter and asked for a manager and he was super nice and said he was going to talk to them. My mom just passed away and all my dad wanted was the chicken salad, so was just mind blown to be treated like this. I few minutes later I walked back by to see if anyone was there and one of the girls I complained on looked at me rudely and just said "My name is Cecelia" or Ciscely, something like that, but guessing it's cause I told the manager I didn't know their names, but I followed with "Good to know and there's no reason to ignore customers, then continue to be rude for no reason." Then she followed with "I only work the bakery, not the deli!" I kindly replied with "You would still just ignore a customer who standing there for 10 min and you could've even just said that." She literally just shooed me off with her hand and just went to the back. I obviously got the same manager again and updated him and he said he would write her up, but who knows, but when I went to pay for my items, I asked the girl checking me out what time the deli closed and she said 7:30, so regardless, I was still waiting a good 10 min and went back by, all before 7:30, but this normally is my go to store, but recently multiple items out of place, or not in stock, or not having the correct prices on anything, and I've been frustrated all ready, then to be treated last night in the deli/ bakery section is MIND BLOWING to me, so unfortunately, I'll be going elsewhere till something changes. HAPPY THIRD ANNIVERSARY!!!!! It has now been 3 years since the racist, ageist Mexican store manager falsely and without apology accused me of stealing a cartful of already paid for and bagged groceries. I wrote many letters to various people higher up in the hierarchy about this travesty and never heard a word from anyone. I had been a loyal and regular customer for over 25 years until this inexcusable and outrageous insult. Will never go back. Expired foods at elevated prices. Dairy goes bad before date, flies run rampant in the produce department, the deli is a lesson in pathology and I personally don't like moldy bread. Don't talk to me about the meat section. Please. Manager is never around, and I don't understand how they stay around with the highest prices in town. read more

I'm so impressed with the store manager AC. We've been selling cookies in front of their store for our garland Girl Scout troop. And the weather has been cold and rainy lately and I just called and only had to wait a couple minutes to talk to the manager and he was so kind and said yes the girls could set up inside if it was cold and rainy. We have tried to ask other managers like at Walmart and other places and they're so mean and they won't let us do that so again I'm very impressed with this Tom Thumb and how well-managed it is and how they care about the community and the people in the area. Been a while since I have been to a Tom Thumb, I'm on a Keto Lifestyle/Diet and stopped by to get some steak. I was curious about Ice cream with low carbs and holy cow! They have a huge... HUGE! Ice cream selection. I have never seen so many brands of ice cream at one store before. They had too many to name but about 15 brands I have never seen beforehand in a store. They have the typical skinny cow, bluebell, baskin Robin's, signature selects, ben and jerrys, blue bunny, Halo Top, but then they have 15+ Brands I have never seen before... I was tempted to jump off my diet.... I skimmed through a few hundred (20) types or more. I grabbed a Halo Top Chocolate and Vanilla with 16Carbs and 14Carbs.... Buy one get one free... or buy 1 for $6.99 LOL. Also got a Bryers Vanilla Carb Smart version for Low Carb Lifestyle. Anyhow the store is tempting, the Bakery section is huge with tons of bread and it smells really good! I havent had bread in 6 weeks... I had to get the hell away from that section of the store. I have been reluctant to shop at this Tom Thumb for some time. I've had a couple of bad experiences here. It is my spouses birthday today. Tom Thumb does have beautiful flowers and fair to middling meat. So I took a deep breath and off I went. Sure enough, there was a perfect NY Strip, tailor made for a special birthday dinner. I found some beautiful blood red roses. Here's the thing - I checked out the flowers first. I went to get the steak and came back for the flowers. I hadn't made up my mind and besides I didn't want to traipse through the store with the flowers. When I came back towards the flowers, a shabbily dressed security man followed me to the flowers. I made my way to the checkout and he followed along in the area between the wall and the checkout. He continued to eyeball me during this whole time. Once again, I felt uncomfortable at this Tom Thumb. It was an easy sale. I had my Tom Thumb card (I've been using Tom Thumb for years, not at this location) so I got a nice discount on the steak. I figured everything was hunky dory and under his watchful eye I proceeded to exit the store. I waited for a woman to enter and then tried to walk through the door. An alarm went off and I'll be darned but the shopping cart had a brake system and I couldn't roll it. The woman said, "It's not me!" I was embarrassed because it had to be either her or me and she was coming and I was going. A no brainer. The young man at the self checkout, who had been standing within 5 feet of my checkout, came rushing up with some type of handheld electronic device. He said, "You're good." Well hell man, I know I'm good, I don't need Tom Thumb to verify that fact. If this was a stand alone event I probably would have sloughed it off. Will I ever got back - maybe in a rare instance. I can guarantee they will never get the majority of my grocery budget. Why spend money where I don't feel comfortable. PS I'm just retired this week. I'm a 71 year old man. If you ever have any damage done to your vehicle by a shopping cart they will never pay for it. They simply don't care about you as a customer or your personal property vis-à-vis the car they brought you there to shop. So just be aware it may be better to Uber to a Tom Thumb and risk no damage to your personal property. Tom Thumb you can thank Sedgwick your insurance carrier for chasing off a customer that's been with you since 1972.....47 years probably spent on average 800/1000 a month say it's $400,000 dollars in 47 years. I typically don't stop at Tom Thumb very often. But since I was close by getting pet supplies I decided to stop in and answer a craving for a piece of apple pie. Secondly I checked out the organic selection in the produce department. The produce looked really fresh and they had a pretty good selection of organics. I ended up getting some organic bananas, a piece of pie-- yumm. Some other supplies were dish washer detergents -- they had the non-toxic kind.. so I grabbed some before heading to checkout. The pie was delish by the way. This store has a larger selection of fresh organic produce than the Kroger in Garland that I Typically stop at for produce. read more

Normally I think grocery store reviews are silly, and a lot of people write them only when something at the store has pissed them off. Well, not at my Tom Thumb! I'm writing about this location because management there is doing something right. There are always a kagillion staff members on the floor and EVERY single member I walk by says "hello", "how are you", and "how can i help you". Yes, I'm sure this is a canned speech coming their way from corporate...but damnit, I enjoy the attention! I find it funny when I tell friends/coworkers that I shop at Tom Thumb that they always seem shocked--"Why dont you shop somewhere cheaper? Like Walmart".... Well, for starters, WalMart is gross- I very much dislike finding a jug of milk in the etchasketch aisle or bacon sitting atop the impulse items at the reg.....but secondly, it has zero customer service. The staff at my Tom Thumb is super helpful (they give me recipes, ask me about my day, and walk me to an aisle and point at the item I'm looking for, not just giving me an aisle number). The store itself is clean and plentiful. I can find everything here that WalMart carries and MORE :) They have a nice selection of cheeses, freshly made sandwiches and other take home meals, a fresh bakery that (though I've tried to find something!) doesn't have anything worry of Cakewrecks.com. Oh...and I LOVE my meat and seafood guys....they take my odd requests (like packaging my fillets up seperately since I'm only eating one at a time) with a smile. Like the majority of us here at Yelp, customer service counts for a lot, and we'll happily go somewhere more expensive if our needs are met and in a more pleasant way. read more

Greatly improved over what it was, A lot of international foods and a Wine & cheese selection that is second to none. Aldi has some european items at better selection & better prices, & sadly the seafood selections are PITIFUL compared to Hong Phat & the asian markets where the seafood is not just extremely fresh, but often is also ALIVE when you buy it. But or wine , cheese & american food staples , its the king in quality. It is also competetive in price but ONLY with the card & even then it is usually somewhat higher priced. The dont carry everything so Asian, European & Brit markets are still needed for the hard to find stuff , but its totally eliminates the need for any trips to wal mart, albertsons HEB, minyards or Kroger. I have not been to those stores in YEARS! Their wine & beer selection is also quite awesome & the service is second to none. read more

---------- New Review I must say Tom Thumb has really upped its game. The produce section has been completely redone. The displays are more appealing to look at. The fruit and vegetables are fresh (every once in awhile you see a bad one, but that happens at every grocery store).  I am really pleased with the new look -- and there's new product as well! Very nice. There is a guy who works in the produce section who will go out of his way to help you. I was so impressed I think he deserves being mentioned. Unfortunately, I don't remember his name, but it's either Jose, Jesus, or Joseph. He has a mustache. He might be one of the head people in that department, I'm not sure. I think he's hispanic, but I'm not sure on that either as I don't pay attention to race (because that is not important to me). The cashier's all know me [Tom Thumb is pretty much the only grocery store I go to, with the occasional trip to Walmart... and during the Holidays Kroger (along with Walmart and Tom Thumb)] and they are all friendly as can be and very helpful. I just love how Tom Thumb's customer service meets and exceeds my expectations. Most retail/food/sales stores don't have great (if any) product knowledge, but Tom Thumb never lets me down in that department. If I am looking for something that they don't know if they have or not, they do not give up until they find out if they sell the product or not. Also, they aren't afraid to ask for help. The reason they might not know if they have a product or not is because of different departments and what not. Someone who just works in the bakery might not know if the store carries a certain brand of tuna or not (just using tuna as an example. I wasn't looking for tuna). But the impressive thing is that even though they are in a different department, they will try their best to help me and will also grab someone in that department for help (since one shouldn't be away from their department for too long -- I understand how retail works as I have spent many years in retail). But needless to say, Tom Thumb is definitely worth shopping at. And I am so glad the employees stopped handing out that white piece of paper with the website on it. The one they gave you when they helped you to ask that you leave them a positive review. I know that some companies do that (like at&t), but it's really quite annoying. What that means is that they are trying to coerce you into giving a positive review... trying to control what kind of review you give. So another thank you for ending that, Tom Thumb. You never fail to impress and deliver. If one of your departments starts to crumble and fall, you are on top of it and fix it right back up again -- to an even better condition than before. Buying in the morning the fruit is fresh, but at night, the produce is bad and has mold. I went shopping last night, and they had 6 containers of blackberries, two of them had mold, one looked like half of it was taken out of the package (probably because it had mold in it), and two looked ok so I bought them, but they fell apart when washing them and had a really nasty, sour taste, so I had to throw them out. There bananas are really brown (at night) and will only last one or two days; the strawberries had mold and looked mushy and disgusting. Sometimes the green beans and bell peppers are really wrinkled and old, and sometimes the Cherub tomatoes have mold in them. Also, I wanted to get syrup, but there was crap spilt all over the syrup bottles (and they were still on the shelf for sale... as was the moldy, nasty looking fruit). I guess they just don't give a crap what the food looks like the few hours before closing. But during the day, the food is A-OK. The employees are all very nice and helpful... but stay away from that one guy with the non existent hair (he's a little on the weird and overly friendly side) in the butcher block because he doesn't wash his hands before putting them all over the food you want cut. The guy with the glasses is good (he's my preferred butcher block employee), as is the guy with the dark hair and the mustache... I think he's new [I get the feeling he's a little self conscious about his service and he goes way out of his way (out of nervousness) to be nice and helpful]. read more

Beware of their packaged salads. We buy one container a week, and I can't tell you the number of times my husband has had to return it because when the package was opened, you could smell (and see) rotting vegetation. I'd say one out of 4 packages either is returned or just thrown out. When my husband spoke with the produce manager, he was aware of the problem. He said he has reported it over and over and over, and the company isn't interested in solving the problem (much could be eliminated by not spraying the greens with water right before packaging). I must say, Tom Thumb/Safeway has their procedure down pat. We're shifting our fresh veggie purchases to Winco and Fiesta. read more

I use this stores grocery pick up. After trying it with many stores in my area-this store gets it right! The associate that works with me is so helpful with everything. She calls if they are out of something to verify replacements. My orders at other locations always left me heading into a grocery store to get everything I still needed. We shop regularly at this Tom Thumb. It is conveniently located and offers a good selection. I like to cook a variety of types of foods and usually have no trouble finding the ingredients I need at this one store. I'd love it if they could expand their selection of European and Asian food items a bit. The customer service is very good. Employees are consistently helpful, polite and friendly. (It is obvious good customer service is a priority of management.) We've experienced this with both the general store and the pharmacy. The cake department is the weak link in my experience. I was underwhelmed by the choices I was presented with when ordering a graduation cake. The cake was decent but not great. I've only had the one experience and that was a couple years ago. I'd probably go to a stand alone bakery next time when ordering a special cake. This is the nicest grocery store in the South Garland area. read more

Just moved to the area and this was my first and last experience here. I work downtown and don't mind stopping in at Kroger. The cashier was an elderly woman who was extremely rude. Someone needs a lesson in customer service. Prices are higher than that of Kroger as well. read more

Great neighborhood store. I stopped in today with my baby girl (11 months) to grab some produce and the customer service was outstanding. While in the produce area my daughter was grasping for a couple raspberries when the employee saw her and asked if we would like for him to wash those up for us, then he said you know I'll do better than that and get you fresh ones from the back n wash them up for her. I was so stunned he was so attentive to us. The store was clean. Employee at check out was also nice. The only thing I'd wish is that they would put a Starbucks inside. Overall I really like the place. Gas rewards and gift card offers on the app don't hurt either. read more

Every time I have been in this Tom Thumb the customer service is AWFUL! The Tom Thumb on Firewheel Parkway is a much better place to shop. The employees and management are very friendly there. I'm guessing that the other two page great reviews about the Tom Thumb on NW Highway are written by their employees or their family members. I have shopped in the NW Highway Tom Thumb several times over a period of three years and each time the service is terrible and the prices are outrageous! Our favorite place to get groceries. We usually shop there because of their frequent sanitizing and security. We feel safe to go with our son. And they also provide "Pick up". I had an issue of miscommunication at the Deli counter. I walk to the counter at 7:30, I acknowledge that the young lady was busy cleaning. I waited for service until I ask for my products. The young lady replied " the meat slicer is getting sanitize". So I waited for her to finish, since the Deli doesn't close until 9:00 pm, according to their website. She repeated the same statement and ask a young man to translate for me. Deli employee, please rephrase your statement next time by adding that you will NO longer be providing Deli service. To the website editor please change the Deli hours to 7:30 if you're employees will no longer help your customers after 7:30 because of sanitizing issues. I presented my issue to the AMAZING manager, she problem solve and treated me with dignity and respect. I am giving the store a 5 star rating because of the customer service quality the manager displayed. She is improving and training her staff when we the customers feel ignored and mistreated. This is the closest grocery store near me and I used to shop here all the time but lately the bad and the ugly have far outweighed the good. The Good: Customer service and the checkout managers are consistently good and seem to resolve any issues. The selection of products in the store is outstanding for a store its size. The bakery also carries cakes with whip icing and a variety of desserts. The Bad: Lines can be long after work due to the conversion to mostly self check out lines with 1-2 regular lines open. The Ugly: Deli and refrigerated items are consistently out of date. I'm not talking 1-2 days but several months out of date. I've learned to watch expiration dates religiously if I stop to pick up 1-2 items. Cream that is 5 months out of date is ridiculous and when you have a whole case of soups in the deli refrigerated area all out of date, it is beyond bad. Some of the checkers need to learn customer service too. I actually witnessed a woman leave her change on the counter and go from the check out area to the customer service desk just a few feet away. The cashier was just going to put it back in the register with neither the bag boy nor the cashier moving to give it to her or calling out to her. The checkout line was very slow. There was no one to bag the groceries. The male employee who scanned my groceries smelled bad and had on a filthy shirt. I then went to the Tom Thumb gas station to get gas in my car. I was going to use my $.20 off per gallon. The pump would not work, and I lost my twenty cents per gallon discount. So overall it was a miserable shopping experience. The additional problem is that it is not my first time to have issues at this Tom Thumb location. 3 strikes and you are out. BUT...they have stopped carrying a few things I normally purchase and I have requested they put those items back out with no resolve. Also, a lot of items, especially in the deli, are expired. There are huge differences in how each store is managed. The one that use to be at Park and Preston in Plano- I never had a problem with that one when I lived in Plano. read more
