We came tonight for a birthday dinner with a group of 11 and were seated in a private dining area. The food itself was good, but unfortunately we were disappointed with the overall experience. We booked the teppanyaki specifically so the kids could enjoy the chef's show, but our chef really didn't do much besides cook the food. There was little to no interaction or entertainment, which was a letdown, especially since we had three kids at the table. Service was friendly, but a bit slow at times, we often had to look for our server, likely because she was busy covering other tables. It also felt a little understaffed, even though the restaurant didn't seem that busy. Another issue was with the exit. Our private room was right by a back door, which other family members were also using since they parked near there. There were no signs posted on the door, but when we used it while leaving, a staff member told us (with a bit of attitude) that we weren't allowed to use that exit and had to go out the front. If there had been a clear sign like "emergency only" or "please use front entrance", it would've made sense, but instead it felt unnecessarily unpleasant. I used to love coming here when the place was packed and lively, but it just doesn't feel the same anymore. Sadly, I think this may have been our last visit. read more

I had dinner at this restaurant with a co-worker. The atmosphere appeals to the American sense of the image of everything Japanese including the little bridge over the koi pond at the entrance. The interior is divided into two sections, one for teppanyaki and the other a bar/dining area which includes a sushi counter. We sat in a booth in the dining area. I ordered a glass of wine. Japan is not known for their wine and none were listed on their menu so a glass of Gato Negro cabernet sauvignon from Chile was my choice. It was dry and smooth with a hint of spice. For my meal I chose the chicken panko which came with miso soup, salad, and rice. The miso soup was good but different from what I'm used to with mushrooms instead of tofu. The salad was fresh with a delicious dressing and the chicken panko was excellent. The chicken breast, beneath the lightly crunchy exterior, was very tender and the katsu sauce had great flavor to dip the pre-sliced chicken pieces. Service was superb and we were checked on by both our waitress and the manager (owner?) as we ate. Although I can't officially review the sushi since I didn't eat any, my co-worker ecstatically said it was fantastic. I really enjoyed everything about my meal here. read more

Hibachi food was ok, fried rice was the most flavorful from that grill. Staff was attentive with refills and asking if we needed anything else. They don't really communicate of perhaps have an attitude like our cook who name I failed to ask! Also, our server was not good or attentive! She never came back and brung my steam rice super late. I would like to start by saying that the bartender Ricardo deserves 5 stars. Someone at our table tipped Chef I ten dollars before he started to cook. He asked for the chef to give them a good show. The chef did a few of the tricks, but the food and utensils weren't flying. The only thing that flew were pieces of shrimp into the mouths of some of the customers. I'm not going to ruin it for others, but those that have gone here know that there is more than shrimp that gets thrown around. I was disappointed with my scallops that I had asked them to make with their yummy yummy sauce. The scallops weren't cooked with the sauce. It was just added as an afterthought. I should have just asked for just the hibachi scallops. Everyone else enjoyed what they ordered. We still gave a tip to the chef despite how disappointed we were with his showmanship because the food tasted good. I liked going to this location because it's easier to find parking here in comparison to their location in Pasadena. I go to the one in Pasadena when I feel like walking around a mall. I gave 3 stars because I could not believe that someone would turn off the air conditioner in July, while chefs are cooking on a flattop with occasional demonstrations of flames. You could only imagine how hot it got when there were flames while the chef was cooking. I actually really enjoyed my experience at Tokyo Wako. It's been years since I've been and my most recent visit was great! I went to celebrate a couple of friends' birthdays and the service was excellent. Everyone was so nice, which really set the tone for a great celebratory birthday. I ordered the teppanyaki (which means grilling on an iron plate) lunch and there were a few items to choose from. I opted for the 2 item combination for $24.50 and substituted the white rice with the Tokyo Wako Chicken Fried Rice for like $4.25 more. So worth it. In terms of the lunch combinations, they had shrimp, scallops, salmon, chicken, emperor steak, and filet mignon. I decided to go with the salmon and emperor steak and it was so delicious. The lunch also came with a salad and miso soup. Overall, the presentation was really fun and I was so insanely full after. I definitely would recommend and shout out to the incredible service for today. The maître d' was so nice too! I don't know his name, but he deserves a shoutout. read more

Waitress took our order the guy came to our table to cook and didn't have the order correct and was putting the wrong food on the wrong plates, we hadn't saw the waitress since she took our order we had to go ask about her to determine she had left and they sent her home. Terrible service with Costco level sushi. We wait 30 mins for our beef sushi and the server told us they accidentally put sauce on it. I'm fine with waiting, however, the beef, or steak pieces on the top of the sushi is way overcooked, is black and hard and I can taste the smoke when I bite it. Ridiculous Burnt sushi for 20$. Plus you still have to tip the server who won't even want to add water for you, I wait for 30mins for the sushi and my cup is already so empty, I have to borrow my family member's water to drink. Because the store is so big and empty and the server barely been to the area where our table is. We tried the menu QR code on the table, which didn't work. So now it's going past 15 minutes with nothing, and we couldn't even pull up the menu to boot. We decided to leave and go across the street to BJ's. Best decision on our part. Not sure if it was a fluke on their part about the non-service and non-greeting by wait staff. Kind of disappointed. Came here for my anniversary, but the food didn't really have a taste. There wasn't much seasoning added, and the calamari we ordered also had no seasoning. They were good, but just no taste. The soy sauce that came with our calamari was super watered down as well. I had to ask for lemons to season our food. Our chef was nice, but honestly, he gave more attention to the the couple sitting in front of us because they were regulars. Maybe some favoritism too. It was really disappointing because out of 6 people, the veggies he gave me lacked in comparison. He gave the couple across from us a hefty amount compared to the second couple or my boyfriend and I. What sucked was he actually gave me only onions. I had only three pieces of mushroom and they were cut in half. So I got a total of only one mushroom and a half. I even said it out loud and I'm pretty sure the chef heard me, but chose not to say anything. Any cook with a state required food handlers card can easily identify what is wrong with the image. Id be concerned for any kids or pregnant women that eat here. Ambiance is nice though. Service is a bit slow so be prepared to wait. Had to walk and chase down a different server to get the bill. Odd considering the entire restaurant only seated guests at no more than 5 tables. Very uncomfortable experience, hostess was nice and we were seated pretty quickly around 7:30pm, but once we sat down the waitress looked over from behind the divider and rolled her eyes ( we are people of color) and didn't come greet us until 20 mins later. Once she finally came over, she was very short & rude, and even told us that certain items (been here before) we requested was not on the menu, in which they were! When she served us soup and salad she slightly slammed the bowls down, loud enough for everyone to notice, and she seemed irritated with any questions or request for additional items. The chef came out about 30 mins later, he was ok and was quick with meal preparation. The rest of the evening was utterly uncomfortable, with her, as she and her manager LITERALLY stared at us the entire time while we were eating, for at least an hour! Almost as if they didn't trust that we would pay or could afford to pay for our meal. We were one of the last parties there before closing, (9pm) in which another ( Asian couple) sitting across from us at another table, also took their time dining and I didn't notice them staring at them the entire time, like they were at us. Overall, very bad service, very uncomfortable ambiance, and felt like we paid $$$ to be visually monitored and treated as a an invaluable customers. This review is for the lunch service only and is bolstered by the SUPER job done by the chef and the waitress. Spoiler alert: this would be a 5 except the bathroom was gross. We did have to wait a little past opening to get a table because they were doing extra cleaning for the seating area but I'm cool with that. She was nice and funny ( like the 10th time My toddler dropped the chopsticks on the floor she told her "if you drop them on the floor again it's a five dollar charge. Do you have $5? No? Did all the tricks you expect but with a smile where you felt like he was having fun. As you can see my girl liked the fire so he did some extra for her and she was sooooo happy. Plus the food was really good. The salads were cool and crisp and had enough dressing (isn't it so annoying when it's like a tint plop and half your obviously bagged sals is plain!??) but the soup was a little under seasoned though I like the mushroom slices over the seaweed in this version. We got some fried rice and some plain but the chef had extra fried rice so passed some around- which was awesome. And i'll just say I never pay the three dollar and 50 Cent up charge for fried rice. I am happy to get plain because I think the price is ridiculous but when I tried his fried rice I kind of wish I had bought it. He had some nice little crispy bits in there and all the veggies were cooked really well. Plus the guy knows how to season and I found that to be a great theme of the meal. Between the 6 of us we got every main on the menu and I can say A+. Cooking temp was spot on, shrimp were tasty, chicken wasn't dry and steak was so tender. Also, again, super well season which makes a difference. Everyone- even the 5 year old cleaned their plates. Now I have eaten at this location before and while I think the food is generally pretty consistent I felt like this meal is superior to any one I've eaten there in the past. Maybe it was the chef and his salt, maybe it was the thrill of being open for indoor dining after Covid....whatever it was, it worked. Now I had to take away a point because the bathroom was disgusting. They felt grubby and the floors were not clean and I loathed having to help my kid pee in there. The restaurant itself was clean and I watched the waitresses wipe down all the chairs and tabletops and nothing else was sticky. All of our silverware was given to us in disposable napkins and when we ordered extra sauces they were brought in pre-measured to go ramekin type things rather than bottles of soy sauce. The waitresses wore gloves and shields so overall that was good. We were socially distanced from other tables in the restaurant that were also having lunch and there were hand sanitizer stations all over. read more

Came here for a Yelp elite perk bento box - but ended up ordering some sushi rolls and could not have had a better experience! The food was excellent and I even chatted to one of the owners and he was incredibly nice - as were all the staff I interacted with! We got the Rainbow Roll and the Rising Sun Roll. The Rainbow Roll was ample, pieces were large and the fish was as super fresh! Delicious! And omg the Rising Sun Roll - cream cheese and crab meat, need I say more?? It's basically a warm Philadelphia roll topped with crab meat and sauces - it's my new fave roll in the area! They remodeled the restaurant this year and the inside is so cozy - I can tell it has a great ambiance...can't wait for this pandemic to be over so we can go enjoy the Teppanyaki tables! And they have a beautiful Koi pond as well. There was a nice outside seating area also. And plenty of parking. Will definitely be back! read more
