Probably the best priced AYCE sushi for dinner prices in the area! It was $32.99 for dinner which included AYCE appetizers, sashimi, nigiri, rolls, and other entrees (like fried rice). I thought the sashimi had a pretty good flavor! All of the items came out super quick as well. The entree dishes were very heavy on onions for some reason but overall were tasty. I'm between this place and Ichiban for which I would recommend for AYCE, but this one is definitely the more affordable option! read more

Hubby & I love AYCE (All You Can Eat) sushi so we wanted to try this place based on a recommendation from friends (they do have a regular menu if you would prefer to order items individually or a meal). We came here for lunch on a Saturday but it wasn't too busy (the weather was cold & windy). The server was efficient & friendly. He didn't miss anything we ordered or forget about us. The restaurant was clean and they were prompt to clean tables after other patrons were finished with their meal. First time here for all you can eat sushi. Extensive menu and there literally is something for everyone. I started with the avocado salad and gyoza dumplings. Avocados were perfectly ripe and the dumplings were so tasty. The sushi pizza was crispy on the outside and tender and tasty on the inside. All of the food I ordered was made fresh and delish. Whenever I am celebrating, or honestly, just in the mood for sushi, Tokyo Sushi is my go to. The selections are immaculate and the service is always top notch. My favorite go to is the BMW roll, but it's not just the sushi that keeps me coming back. The tempura selections are delicious and the teriyaki Salmon is always cooked to perfection. It doesn't matter if there are 2 tables or 20, the service is always fast and the wait staff is super helpful with recommendations and pass zero judgement when I order an 8th roll. This is a solid place. No, it's not the best sushi you could find, but it's good--and very fair for the price. Add to that that the service is excellent and they don't pad out the experience, running your stomach's clock down during the all-you-can-eat lunch. Definitely give them a try. read more

My first and general impression...the Maplewood location is miles better than the Brooklyn Park location. It's like night & day. I was very impressed. Tokyo Sushi is a small local chain. They aren't a snobby Chef Ramsey type of place. But for what they are, they do an excellent job. DECOR & GENERAL: Tokyo is a big place. The ambiance is pretty decent. It isn't a fancy place. The first thing I noticed was that they were PACKED with customers! I stopped by on a late afternoon and people were waiting for tables. Busy, busy, busy. That's a good sign. People obviously like Tokyo Sushi. CUSTOMER SERVICE: As expected, the customer service was impeccable, friendly and efficient. My sushi rolls came out freaky fast. They actually came out about 1 minute after my onion soup. That's a personal record for me. Impressive! FOOD: I went with some onion soup and my usual tuna based sushi rolls. I ordered off the regular menu instead of the all-you-can-eat menu. My server seemed surprised by this. She said the selections are the same but the rolls would be larger from the regular menu. So that's what I did. She wasn't kidding. The rolls were noticeably bigger, they came out with lightning speed, and the flavors were wonderful. Awesome! MANAGEMENT: It's obvious that the management knows what they're doing. This place is run with military type efficiency. While eating my sushi, I watched in amazement while a small army of staff were sprinting around doing their jobs. It was amazing. I haven't seen anything like it. I'd say this is lower tier all you can eat sushi, but I have found some good staples that I like after a few tries. The beef fried rice with yum yum sauce is definitely one of those staples. I arrived around noon with no reservation. The host did inform me while walking to my seat that a reservation is required next time. This restaurant appeared to be very clean; the staff was wearing masks and face shields. They did not have disposable menus. The food was delicious and fresh. I love dining where you can choose different plates (all you can eat) and how's it cooked fresh and served to you. Are you see here all the time and then I was unable to get here due to illness for a while. I did go there the other day and I felt that some of the quality has gone down a little bit. Most of the things I had ordered really good but some of the things I've gotten weren't. I had ordered a salmon roll and a roll I got was super chewy and it took a lot for me to chew it up. And then I had a couple other rolls that weren't the greatest either. The rice was not tightly wrapped kind of slopply done. That was only on a few rolls it was that way otherwise it was good. They'll add a piece of salmon that was extremely chewy and was all the roles that were chewy. I asked my server about that and she talked to the Sushi Guy and he's like he might be a different type of salmon which I don't believe that cuz I've never had salmon that tightly chewy before. Reservation is required, probably due to COVID. My boyfriend and I came here for the all you can eat lunch menu. He is a hard critic to please but he was impressed. He's from San Diego and I will agree with him, the food is hard to beat there. He said if he had known about this place earlier he would have came here every month. I enjoyed the food as well, plenty of vegetarian options for myself which I appreciated. Although a big critique I have is that I came here disabled after having bunion/osgood schlatters surgery. With that being said the only handicap accommodation is the handicap stall, nothing else. We were ultimately disappointed with having sushi in a larger city with such good ratings. We hit up this place late in the day, 9pm on a Friday, so service was extremely quick. Having done a la carte, we're assuming this place was given 4/5 stars based on the all you can eat factor. Miso soup tasted watered down. Someone ordered the vegetable tempura. Crispy and light batter, but it could also have used some salt. The sauce accompanied was bland. We ordered the volcano roll, crunchy roll and dynamite maki roll. Plating was nice, rolls were cut proportionately and hand rolled tight. Here comes the disappointing part: the flavor. Something felt off about each roll. I thought the dynamite maki roll had too much avocado. The volcano roll had a kick of spice, but I couldn't figure out what seemed off. The crunchy roll had too much panko. Definitely crunchy, but the tempura in here lacked that. Someone in my party suggested that the rice had not been seasoned enough. We left disappointed from the stellar reviews. I know folks in the TC area compare Tokyo to Kyoto since they're both "all you can eat sushi" and my friends normally end up picking Kyoto over Tokyo, but for me, Tokyo has the upper hand. Their dishware and tables seems to be a lot cleaner and their service is quick. Additionally, I think their food tastes a lot fresher than Kyotos (sashimi and other entree dishes). A friend had recommended this place as we set into town of St. Paul, MN. We went on a Friday night and it wasn't too busy for a party of 5 and we waited 5 minutes for a table. Service was definitely lacking that night and it didn't seem too busy so we do not know what the delay was. Looking at the menu and looking at the choices, it didn't have too much variety but that could work out as you have less items to look at. The quality of the food was okay and everything else was too. For the price that we paid, it was not worth it. Did the AYCE sushi option here with my sister. It was busy Friday night so we waited ~15-20 minutes for a table. Our waitress was so polite and friendly. The interior was spacious, clean, not too dark and well-lit. I honestly can't remember if there was music, but there was enough background noise to have a private conversation but not too noisy. We ordered a whole bunch of things from the menu, and they were pretty tasty. The sashimi I got tasted fresh. This place is good value for AYCE as they offer some small dishes that I haven't been able to get at other AYCE places, like salt & pepper shrimp and roast duck. We had a variety of things including edamame (super good and fresh tasting), dumplings (also very good), onion soup (was told this was good but tasted very high in salt), vegetable udon noodle soup (this was good but very filling), spring rolls (not the best I've ever had but they were good), sweet potato tempura( this was good but I prefer my sushi which also was sweet potato), spicy tuna roll (was told this was good), sweet potato sushi roll (this was the best sushi I've ever had. As someone who can't have the seafood sushi but loves veggie rolls this was a nice twist and so so good), lastly we had Mango ice cream(this was ehh don't have to have it again) The service here was very prompt with everything we needed, however watch your plates because they will take them from you without you noticing and then you have nothing to eat on. I will be back and would recommend this place highly. Visited this sushi place for the first time on August 11, 2017. Take your typical all you can eat buffet for sushi and it has a pretty comparable my need to other how you can eat sushi restaurants. What was nice is that they did have some specialty rolls and of course we had to order the dynamite roll as well as the Mexican roll. Our first order to the table everything was just made and everything was tasty. We also ordered there at muscles with a black bean sauce and I could easily order those multiple times they're perfectly cooked and had just the right amount of spice. The reason why I gave this restaurant three stars was because we order the Mexican roll and additional time and it came out as if it had either been frozen or have been sitting in the fridge because it came out extremely fast for being a sushi roll and it was really cold. But that is to be expected with some all you can eat sushi places however this is my first time actually experiencing it firsthand. Great date night here with my wife always we go every 2-6 mo whenever we are craving sushi $30/meal on weekends makes it quite pricey for low incomers like me Definitely look up the pricings if you want to save money Been here 10+ times in the past 2 yrs and I love it here. We got here on a Sunday recently, the front desk person was extremely nice and welcoming, i felt bad because I was very tired after eating and he was being more talkative and hosting us but I was tired because of the food coma I was currently in. But yes, staff is very friendly. The food came out extremely quick maybe even quicker than a McChicken from McDonald which was surprising for how busy they were when we got there. Plenty of parking which is great also My all time favorite here is always the "Dynamite Roll" crunchy, fresh, delicious, not too much, just perfect bites I've tried the out of control roll, and it's still too much, it sounds good every time but its not, its kind of plain in taste in my opinion, dirty tasting (not a bad taste but similar to eating junk food like pizzas/burgers after eating kind of thing). The BMW roll was very similar to the out of control roll but it had the extra cream cheese in it which was a nice little touch. It almost seemed like I was eating a won ton because of the fried outing and the cream cheese on the inside. Some of my other favorites are definitely the Fried Rice w/meat of choice, Grilled teriyaki beef, and fried chicken wings. I'm a fried rice guy, I love it but not everywhere can make good fried rice, here they have an almost perfect fried rice, its pretty good especially when you're hungry, its kind of hidden on the menu but I definitely enjoy the fried rice every time I go here. I always have this item too these are like my go to items. I always always order these 3 things, then a roll or two and that's more than enough for me. Sounds like a little but the rolls they come in fill you up quick. I always have to ask them to make it medium well done for me, which is fine. I think they regularly cook it rare, so if you like it a certain way be sure to ask for it that way instead of just expecting it to be that way. The teriyaki sauce on the beef is always a nice touch. Fried chicken wings are great in texture, VERY hot though so be careful when eating. I always let mine cool down, probably break them and let the heat exit, I don't like to get burned. My wife loves the Fried sweet potatoes. The fried tofu is also quite good, great in texture, crispy outside, soft inside. I was excited for a new sushi place and not only that but it's "all you can eat". Came here with my brother and a friend. We were excited because this place has promise . When you walk in the location is very roomy and the waitress is welcoming . Some cool items on the menu to try are the mussels and mango ice cream . The sashimi pieces are legit and sizes are large . The downer for me was the rolls. They were very loose and fell apart very easily . That wasn't cool because now we couldn't dip our sushi rolls in soy sauce before they just fell apart . It wasn't even on just one roll t as all the rolls we tried . The taste of rolls were alright but it's hard gauge when the rolls fall apart and you're picking up the pieces . Super fast everything, from ordering drinks to bringing our food. It is made to order, not set out in buffet lines to get stale. Edamame are hot n fresh. Generous portion of wasabi and Shoga. Ok so with all that admiration, how did ol'Tokyo Sushi lose a star?? Well the rice was hard n stale on a cupple sushi's. The 揚げ豆腐 (ahge-tofu) was unusual (see pic). There was no oroshi with tempura dipping sauce. Last but not least, the draft Sapporo (see pic) did not taste like Sapporo. I have been here a number of times, but brought my family for the first time ever. I figured the restaurants will take a big hit again starting tonight, so we should support the servers while we can. As always, the food and service was great. Our server was one of the friendlier ones we have had. My wife and I did the all-you-can-eat, and asked for two bowls of white rice for our girls, since they are not huge sushi fans. One of them also has a peanut allergy. The server make sure there was no peanut oil used for anything and at the end of the meal, she informed us that the rice was free. That was very nice. We left a larger tip to show our appreciation for her service and since she will probably be without tips for the next month. read more
