    Dragon roll
    Christine C.

My first time here and it was obvious the locals adore the place. At least three couples strolled in and greeted the staff by name. My dragon roll was beautiful and delicious as was the gyoza.

Another Osaka location and another good experience - 4 stars. I'm on a quest to try every sushi joint in the Twin Cities. And this week led me to meet a friend (that lives nearby) at the Stillwater location. I know they're a chain, this isn't a Chef Ramsey sort of place. But for what they do, I think they do a good job. SERVICE: As usual, the service was excellent. Our server was impeccably polite, welcoming, attentive, and on top of everything without being overbearing. FOOD: The food was good. My friend ordering a dumplings appetizer and a small sushi roll appetizer. I started with a chicken choo choo appetizer and 3 tuna based sushi rolls. All of our food was good. CLEANLINESS: I was happy to see that the restaurant seems to be very clean, including the restrooms. In fact, our server was constantly cleaning in between servicing tables. LOW CARBOHYDRATE: It's easy to eat low-carb, keto, carnivore style at Osaka. I stuck with my usual tuna rolls (that are fairly low-carb), and sometimes I order an animal based appetizer. I always avoid large rice portions, big piles of noodles, added sugar, and anything that might hide vegetable seed oils. My insulin levels and my physician like it that way! I read some of the previous reviews and it looks like things might have been sketchy in the past. But on the day of our visit, everything was good. Thanks, Osaka! -Maxx

Salmon and Escolar Nigiri (SO GOOD)
    Joline E.

We grabbed sushi takeout from Osaka because it was in between mealtime and we were famished! The salmon nigiri was soft and sweet and super satisfying. The mackerel sushi was fresh, not pickled, and we much preferred that! The Escolar was a little different than the super white tuna I've had before but buttery and rich nonetheless. Overall great fresh sushi and good value, thank you!

I've lived in Stillwater for over a year now and haven't really ventured out for dining. I moved from Boston which is as the city with many options for seafood. I've been craving Sushi for awhile now and decided to try out Osaka. It was delicious. Everything was fresh, the rice cooked perfectly. The crab cheese wontons reminded me of my favorite ones I get in NYC! I will definitely be back!

The staff is nice but in this era no place that lacks non alcohol beer or wine gets more than two stars from me.

It was about 80% cucumber with barely any crab, which wasn't what we expected. Unfortunately, the service really overshadowed the experience. We weren't greeted when we walked in, and things felt off from the start. We had a stroller with us, and instead of helping us find a comfortable spot, we were initially directed to a booth that clearly wouldn't work. When I asked about it, the waitress moved a couple of tables and pointed us to an end table with an uncomfortable chair. I politely asked to sit somewhere else, which felt awkward to even have to do. There were also a few moments that felt careless, like when she reached over my baby and stroller to grab a drink instead of going around. That's just not something you should risk. When I finished my salad, she told me to keep my fork rather than bringing a new one for sushi, which came off as odd. I also know how to use chopsticks so it seemed weird to assume that I didn't and would reuse my fork. The waitress didn't seem friendly or welcoming, and we didn't feel acknowledged at any point..even when we left, despite being the only customers there. It's a shame because the food, music, and overall vibe had potential, but the service really took away from the experience.

We arrived right at noon when the restaurant opened. We were greeted with a quick "how many?" and then led to our table without much else. Menus were handed out, and the hostess turned and walked away. A waitress came by shortly after, asked for our drink and food orders, jotted them down, and left. That pretty much summed up the service... very minimal interaction, just business. Staff mostly just ask what you want and write it down. On the plus side, the food was good and fresh. The all-you-can-eat menu had a solid variety, and everything came out fairly quick and as ordered. I also appreciate that the menu offers more than just sushi -- there are options for people who don't eat much (or any) sushi, which is great when dining with a larger group. Price-wise, I personally feel it's a bit high, especially considering the lack of ambiance or customer service. You're not here for a "dining experience" -- you're here to eat, and that's about it. If you're okay with a straightforward, basic spot where the food is decent and the service is minimal, Akita still gets the job done especially if you're with a group and just want to enjoy sushi together.
