Hibachi review only- we didn't eat at the regular tables. We are somewhat regulars here but Chef…read moreJohn recognizes us and knows our order. The portions are a good size and cooked to perfection. Chef John noticed that the ribeye portion for one of our party was too small so he had the kitchen bring out another cut and he cooked that up for him. They don't serve mustard sauce at the table- only ginger and yum sauce, but if you call ahead (and ask for Chef John) he can make it for you- and it's delicious. He's not the showiest of chefs but he has great skills and the food is delicious. Notes about the hibachi section- it is crowded, loud and can get hot. If you have sensory issues it's probably not the place for you. My adult daughter had to step out because of the noise and the crowd. But we come on weekend nights when it's the worst. Come off hours and you'll be fine. Chef John is the best!

Naru looked promising when we booked our party of three for a birthday dinner online, and the…read moreconfirmation call was pleasant. It's an intimate spot with only four teppanyaki tables, and we were seated promptly. My family has been going to hibachi for over 50 years to celebrate special occasions, so we know what to expect. Unfortunately, this visit was a total letdown. As is standard, we shared a table with another party--a family with three kids. Right away, there were red flags: the kids were hyped up on candy, spilling things, and spreading out so much that I was repeatedly bumped into and forced to eat off the edge of the table. Management and servers saw this unfolding but never intervened, even though they clearly knew the family. Then came our cook, "Chef John," and things went further downhill: Complete Lack of Engagement: Wearing a baseball cap instead of proper chef attire, Chef John spent the entire meal chatting with the other family (who were clearly regulars) while ignoring us like we weren't even there. No Showmanship: Teppanyaki is about the experience-- jokes, knife tricks, tossing shrimp, flipping eggs. Chef John did nothing beyond a single, basic onion volcano. Bland & Poorly Executed Food: The food lacked real flavor--no ginger or garlic, just heavy salt, pepper, and soy sauce. The steaks were hit-or-miss (the ribeye was moist, but the filet had dry sections), and seafood wasn't cut into bite-sized pieces for chopsticks. Order Snafu & Arguing: All three of us ordered steak and shrimp combos. He served full shrimp portions to two of us, but gave the third person only an appetizer portion. When we brought up the mistake--despite him confirming orders earlier--it turned into an uncomfortable debate over whether she was "entitled" to the rest of her meal. We eventually got the missing shrimp, but the damage was done. Between the chaotic table dynamic that staff ignored, zero entertainment, bland food, and having to argue for the food we ordered, it ruined a birthday celebration. I seriously doubt that we will be returning.

We walked in for a lunch special and because we sat down at 2:59 they said we couldn't get the lunch special and sort of ignored us after, stating it ended at 3:00. I get it, they have a schedule but we were there before it ended to make it in time and because it was 1 minute before they told us we couldn't get it. It put a bitter taste in our mouth and we ended up leaving.

The outdoor seating overlooking the lake is absolutely beautiful and easily the best part of the experience. Unfortunately, the scenery ended up being our entertainment because the service certainly wasn't. From the moment we sat down, everything moved at a glacial pace. It took forever to order drinks, food, and dessert. Somewhere along the way, our server managed to bring the wrong meals, completely forget one person's meal, and then act annoyed when we politely asked where it was. Impressive...just not in the way you want. By the time we finished eating, we waited another 30 minutes just to pay the bill. Ironically, before anyone could process our payment, a staff member came over and rather obnoxiously told us we needed to vacate the table because we were done. We explained that we'd love to leave...just as soon as someone actually took our credit card. That's when the owner arrived--with attitude instead of an apology. As for the food, six people ordered six different meals, and only one person thought theirs was okay. Those aren't great odds. Dessert didn't improve things. The lava cakes arrived cold (apparently the lava was on vacation), the presentation looked like an afterthought, and we were told there was no coffee available--even though we could literally see other tables enjoying coffee. Maybe it's a secret menu item? It's a shame because the location is stunning. With better service and better food, this place could be amazing. Until then, I'd recommend grabbing a seat outside, enjoying the lake...and lowering your expectations. My ratings: * Location & View: * Service & Professionalism: If negative stars existed, they'd have earned them. * Food: * Patience Required: One final disappointment--there were no fortune cookies. So, allow me to provide the fortune you never received: "Fortune says: Go somewhere else to eat." That's one fortune I feel pretty confident will come true.

Solid local sushi spot with a chill vibe…read more Sushi and Sashimi Special ($75) - This party platter comes with 12 pieces of sushi, 18 pieces of sashimi, 6 piece spicy tuna naruto roll, and 6 piece california roll. I think it would be enough to feed 2 people, but if you have more than that, you probably want to order another roll or two. Everything here was pretty good. The fish seemed average freshness. The naruto roll was unique with cucumber around the outside, though the tuna was not really spicy. I specifically thought the sea bream (white fish) sashimi was good, as it had a creamy taste and consistency. Julie Roll ($15) - This roll was delicious, with a nice combo of yellowtail, salmon, and tuna in one roll. In addition, there was mango for some sweetness, avocado, and cucumber in there. It was topped with red fish eggs and had a soy wrapper around it, which made it a little unique. Beauty and Beast Roll ($15) - This is sort of a 2-in-1 roll, as half of the pieces have tuna on top and half have avocado on top. There is also shrimp tempura inside along with cucumber and eel. Another tasty roll. The restaurant has a very chill vibe inside. There were a couple others dining in as well for Sunday lunch. The staff are super friendly and even gave us a side of edamame on the house. The service speed was pretty quick. Overall, if you are in the mood for some sushi (either dining in or take-out), I think Nigiri Sushi would be a very good option, particularly if you are in the Franklin Lakes area.
