I ordered teriyaki chicken and a roll of the unagi (eel) to go. The teriyaki chicken is easily the worst Japanese food I've ever had. The chicken was very dry, with the sauce poured on post cooking (Teriyaki should be cooked in the sauce), the fried rice grainy and obviously not cooked recently, and the carrots were just pure sugar. I ended up just throwing away the majority of it, it was inedible. The unagi roll was okay, but contained very little actual eel. Overall, very disappointed. I will not be coming back. read more

Meh...service good, but food not great. Hot n sour soup was good, but Shumai only average and my steak n shrimp had no flavor nor sauce. The "shrimp sauce" put on the side tasted like watered down 1000 island dressing. Not a good value. read more

As usual, and I've been here several times, my order was not accurate. Even though I was eating at the restaurant, the food came in a styrofoam to-go box. The young girl, about 13yo I'd imagine, just walked up and sat it down on the table. I had to get up and get napkins, sauce, etc. When I ordered I said I wanted hibachi shrimp with zucchini and onions, no broccoli. What I got was shrimp, rice and carrots. When I pointed out the inaccuracy I was told that's what I paid for. Was shown the receipt with the amount, no description. Mamma said she would give me the zucchini but I'd have to pay for it. Fast service, but everything I ordered was pretty gross. Spicy salmon roll was completely thrown away after one bite. Rice was different consistencies and the fish just smelt awful. Dumplings were subpar with little flavor, and the crab nuggets were also thrown away. Not a picky eat but I got 2 apps and a 6 piece sushi roll for $19. Please don't waste your time or money on this place especially if you've ever had any real Asian food at all. For this place to call itself Tokyo express is an insult to Japan. I ordered Pad Thai (cuz who can mess that up). I'm pretty sure the sauce came from a packet. It was a purple orange color. Why did it have color? Traditional pad Thai is made with fish sauce and generally the color of the noodles stands out. Which brings me to my next point. I'm pretty sure the noodles where left in a vat of water all day waiting for an order. They were complete mush. And to top it all off.... I ordered it to eat there and it comes out in a styrofoam box with plastic forks. I'm told this place has been open forever. Would it hurt them to spend a little money for actual forks and plates for patrons? The menu is a mix of different types of Asian food... way too many different types of Asian food. Awesome Asian Fast food, extensive menu, clean, friendly, reasonably priced, and convenient location. While Asheville has amazing restaurants, unfortunately the selection of Asian cuisine, including Fast Food, is limited. This place seems to be the exception. The food is just ok nothing spectacular at all. They give you a lot of rice with your meal and it had no flavor. I got the hibachi shrimp and scallops and it had good flavor except the shrimp was rubbery. The crab Rangoon was mostly onion and the egg roll was really good. If you have a desire for no-frills Asian food, this will do the trick. The service was very good, the dining area was clean and the food was average. I loved the wonton soup but was under impressed with my main dish, Chicken with Cashews. If they had actually fried the rice and left out the too sweet over cooked carrots, the dish would have been worth 3 stars. read more

Got a Hibachi chicken plate from this place and it was so bad I threw away 3/4 of my plate. Plate had a TON of unseasoned white rice that was mostly bare without any Hibachi sauce on it and the chicken was so dry it was slightly rubbery. It pains me to write bad reviews but this was truly awful Japanese food. When you opened the plate it looked like there was a lot of chicken until you realize it's a thin layer with all rice underneath. read more

There's not a lot of good Chinese food in Asheville or Arden. That said, these folks make pretty darn good, and inexpensive, Pan-Asian cuisine. The staff is really friendly, and their take-out is SO fast. If you want Chinese, but aren't up to paying for a huge buffet at Asiana, this is exactly where you need to go. read more

tokyo express? whats express about a 15 min togo order i called in, 10 minutes prior to leaving on my lunch. general chou's chicken. you mean sweet and sour chicken tossed in bottled tso sauce. i have had it before, when they first opened and it had a greasy after taste, but this was sad. the japanese combos are sad. one time we tried to get "a la carte" items to match what a friend had brought over. i spent $12-13 and could have barely fed a cat. the 2 oz of steak and 2 oz of carrots and the .5 lb of rice. basically, find somewhere else to eat... any buffet where you food sits for hours will still top this place read more

One of best Asian food restaurant in Asheville. NC. I order shrimp and steak comb, add spicy. the spicy sauce has lots of favor. very taste. the shrimp and steak are very tender.
