It honestly could have been better. I've been to tastier places that are cheaper than this place. The employees are extremely nice which explains I gave them a 2-stars. When it comes to the food, it was bland (and I don't typically use that word). The fried rice was so salty and made with frozen vegetables, the meat wasn't marinated long enough, and the broccoli was so hard it was like chewing rocks. The only thing good that came out of it was the mushrooms and a nice to-go tupperware you can reuse. It's not worth the price, you can get tastier habachi elsewhere. read more

Hey! There was wasabi on my food. I made a note about the allergy and it's even printed on my receipt. I cannot eat my meal now as it had come in contact with a life threatening allergen. I am very disappointed. I called the store for an opportunity for them to make it up and the overseas agent told me the phone line was out. The manager called me from his personal phone only to tell me hold on and hang up. Never called back. This place has fallen from a monthly staple for our household to a business we won't be visiting again for the foreseeable future. We were happy to find an express Japanese restaurant with quality food when we first moved into the neighborhood and this was the best we'd found since living in Charlotte 10+ years ago. Through COVID they did a great job of keeping you served while having above average practices in place to keep you, your food, and their staff healthy. Because of that we relied on them during those, "I don't feel like cooking" nights through the pandemic. Since then there has been an overall diminishing quality of food, portion size continues to shrink, prices continue to rise, and sanitation scores fall. They no longer leave the condiments, napkins, fortune cookies, etc. out for you to take and now keep them behind the counter. Their takeout pickup process has slowed down considerably from what looks to be a lack of organization and their sanitation grade has fallen to a 91. I'm pretty sure ownership or management has changed at least once over the past few years and you can tell the negative impact it has had on the operations of the restaurant . I know we'll revisit again in the future but not before giving them several months to see if they can sort things back out. read more

I told the lady it was my first time and she didn't recommend anything nor tell me how to order. I basically had to order blindly. Next was the food. I ordered Shumai thinking it would be authentic. The girl did tell me it wasn't handmade by them but I got it anyway. Avoid it like the plague. It was nasty and although it was filled with shrimp, it tasted like a woman hadn't showered in months. The smell and taste . We ordered the Steak and Shrimp which came with rice and broccoli. The shrimp was delicious. You get a handful of large shrimp. The steak was dry but it came with a side of Yum Yum sauce so I drowned it to help it wash down. The rice? I would avoid the rice. Please avoid the rice. We also ordered the Chicken Lo Mein which was delicious but VERY greasy. All in all there were a lot of people who ordered to go. I don't get it but maybe they know to order something better than I got. Would I go there again? Only if I was starving and hadn't eaten in a month and everything else was closed. read more

This is a take out Japanese express place. Align your expectations with where you are at. Some if these reviews are ridiculous. It's not Benihana. You also didn't drop Benihana type coin. And its a take out place with a few serviceable tables if you want to sit and eat your packaged food there. Its not full service or even casual service. There's no service. Get your own napkins. You're a big boy, aren't you? Their strength is hibachi. I ordered the steak hibachi and it was delicious. We also got the General Chou Chicken off the Chinese part of the menu and it was good, but again, go for the hibachi. An order of eggrolls gets you two spring roll style rolls. They were mostly rice noodles, but still yummy. Egg Drop soup was silky and smooth. And the WINNER!!! Sugar Donuts! So damn good. I also ordered a side of hibachi veggies which was seasoned zucchini, squash, and mushrooms. Delicious. And many of their entrees come with a portion of japanese sweet carrots, which are carrots boiled in sweetened water. So simple but yummy. The food came via delivery. My order was correct and due to great packaging, was spill free and still hot on a cold fall day. read more

Great place to get a large portion of excellent food at a reasonable price in Fletcher, NC. We originally saw a bad review but decided to give it a try anyway. I am glad that we did. The location is on the north/east side of New Airport Road just to the east of I-26. Traffic along the road can be busy and challenging at times so please drive carefully. It is in a building with 3 other stores, two of which are restaurants (Moe's and Jersey Mikes). There are 4 rows of parking so that should not be an issue. You enter directly in front of the counter where the menu is directly behind it on the wall. You order at the counter and they will call or name for you to pick it up The staff was friendly and nice, the price was very reasonable and the food was good. The drinks are serve-yourself to the left of the counter. There are tables and booths to the right of the counter and there is even an outside area where you could eat. We ordered Chicken teriyaki and Hibachi chicken. It came with a lot of rice and a good amount of carrots and yum-yum sauce. It was delicious. I highly recommend it to my fellow travelers. read more

Good lord this was bad. Where do I start? This place uses apparently the same sauce on every dish depending on what section you're buying it from. Ie: teriyaki sauce, shrimp sauce, etc. Basically, everything is sweet and sugary. There's no complexity in flavor, no tang, no real heat and very little umami. I don't know who's making this food but they actually use canned carrots! That's right, the lousy canned carrots that your grandma used and tastes like candied yams are dumped up on top of your food. I placed an order with a wasabi food allergy. When I picked up my food there was wasabi in the container next to my wife's food. We were in a rush back home so we couldn't stop and make it better because we were already on the highway and stuck in traffic. We called them to notify the mistake as my wife is highly allergic to wasabi!! She tried eating one of the pieces that looked to have never touched to wasabi and immediately broke out in a reaction with itch throat and rashy skin... when we finally got through the phone with a manager after having to ask profusely to finally get the help we needed. It had been a while since I've been to Tokyo Express and I remembered how good their crab meat with cream cheese were. So I went there and got some general tiso's chicken and some crab meat and cream cheese. Unfortunately the crab meat and cream cheeses had barely any cream cheese in it and it tasted like old oil. And then the sauce on the general tso's chicken was scarce. I remember this place we're being really good not sure what happened but seems like they're getting greedy like the rest of the world with their product. LIVE BEETLES IN FOOD. My girlfriend ordered pad thai from this place today and was horrified to discover that there were live beetles crawling out of it. My favorite place in town for Chinese is China Taste in WAVL but I no longer live on that side of town so figured I'd try a new place. I got the Pad Thai with chicken and Wonton soup. The soup was good. Broth had solid flavor and they gave me extra broth at no charge. I got the Pad Thai to try something different. I usually go with Hibachi dishes or boneless spare ribs which they don't offer. The Pad too me didn't have much flavor and mostly tasted like fish sauce. Whatever else was in the sauce was thick and muddy flavored The chicken wasn't that great either. The location is clean inside and people are nice. This place is solid. I have to laugh at the handful of bad reviews because of the way they're written. Look, this is a hibachi fast food spot. These reviews on Thai and Chinese dishes not meeting what seems to be very high expectations are lost on me. I'm no cartographer but I'm pretty sure Tokyo is in JAPAN, not Thailand or China. I get it, if it's on the menu it should be good; but, I'm reviewing a hibachi spot and I'm telling you, this is a good spot. Go get you a combo or teriyaki steak or chicken for $10ish that most people won't be able to finish but I smash completely every time because I love fast food Japanese. Don't bore me with sitting next to 8 strangers, 4 of which are having a birthday, 2 that won't shut up about how good the shrimp sauce is and one morbidly obese dude that has never missed a shrimp toss in his life. I don't want to know these people and I surely don't want to pay $25 for that entertaining experience/person. We had visited once before and been disappointed. After two years, we decided enough time had passed to give it a second chance. Wow. Still bad. Chinese food ~ barely. Seasonings are "clunky" and just don't impart true Asian flavors. Meat is fatty and tasteless. Veggies were old and over-cooked. Go-with fried rice and "yum yum" shrimp sauce were fine, but not particularly noteworthy. When a place is in a prime location, there's really no excuse for bad product. Somebody must like something there, though, as they are still open for business.... It's just not us. read more
