If you want consistently great American Chinese food, this is the real deal. Looks, acts, and tastes like a Chinese spot. I have a specific order. And I typically only order my order at a spot. I like this spot so much and because my order is consistently good, I have ventured to other items. Egg rolls are perfectly greasy. Fried chicken is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I only have one other spot I love (for my specific order and now their chicken wings) in Asheville. My friends and I will soon have a competition to decide which spot has the best chicken wings. They're really freaking good. read more

This food is delicious. We get food here weekly although I never see but one or two people sitting in the restaurant. This place has the best to go Chinese food in Asheville. read more

Great for take-out or eat in!! Love the egg drop wonton soup! A real gem in North Asheville!

Fresh, got food served quickly. Cant ask for any more than that, am I right? Oh and also at a good price.

This was good, was passing by and saw it. Reviews were pretty iffy but we thought we'd give it a try. The food was pretty good and the service was quick. It looks a little run down but don't let that fool you. read more

China Wok - 26. Beef Fried Rice 27. Vegetable Fried Rice - Chinese Near Me - Asheville, North Carolina

WASTED $162 on an order from CHINA WOK on Merimmon Avenue, Asheville, NC. Should return it for a refund. Restaurant has 4 stars, $$$, so we thought we'd try it hoping for some good Chinese food. We were really disappointed, should return it for a refund. Here's what we ordered: 1. Sesame Chicken* - turned out to be small over cooked pieces, dry, not tender, and just over sweet, the same sweet as the orange chicken and the ribs. 2. Orange Chicken* - also overcooked, not tender, no orange present or flavor and no spice, where's the heat which the dish calls for, and just sweet, the same flavor as the sesame chicken. 3. BBQ Ribs* - small, mostly bone, little meat, over cooked, black, dry, not tender, and just the same sweet as the chicken. 4. Roast Pork Fried Rice* - just the same flavor as the chicken. 5. Beef Lo Mein* - while this was a highlight with lovely tender beef and noodles, the flavor was the same as the chicken. 6. Roast Pork Egg Roll - small, maybe 3" x 1/2" and not enough filling, needs more cabbage and pork. 7. Spring Roll - like the egg roll. 8. Wonton Soup - salty 9. White Rice - fine, thanks For the benefit of the reader, we've had good basic Chinese food in many places, not here, and if you want good food, Chinese food, you won't find it in Asheville. Disappointing, most of it still in fridge, uneaten, and what should have been an enjoyable meal, was not. read more

I got the shrimp lo mein it was actually super good. It was super saucy and had a kinda sweet teriyaki taste to it which I really like ! They didn't have sweet and sour shrimp which I first asked for but was happy with my second option my friend was jealous that they didn't get the noodle cause they were that good. Would go back. Normal casual Chinese take out vibe read more

Service bad, facilities messy, food bad too. Menu not legible online. They could do better if they made an effort. Felt like I was bothering them. read more

Was alone on Christmas, so I decided to order Chinese food from here delivered... bad idea. They threw in some kind of meat eggroll which I didn't order, and the meat inside it was literally RAW. It was disgusting, so I threw it out. My Szechuan chicken didn't even look like chicken. It was soft and rubbery and honestly tasted undercooked. Very dissappointing because i was hungry, and had to try to power through it, to my.own dismay. I'm never eating here again. read more

China Wok - (Pork??) Eggroll that had RAW meat in it - Chinese Near Me - Asheville, North Carolina

Egg rolls not good or fresh, couldn't even finish mine as much as I love egg rolls. Got the Kung pao chicken lunch meal, too much rice which sucked up all the bland sauce, not enough chicken or peanuts, Boneless ribs very bland with not enough flavor. Egg drop soup was the most palatable although heavy on the cornstarch read more

Great egg rolls when fresh. Tonight I got my 1st that might have been sitting.. not so crunchy, maybe borderline soft? normally they are very crispy, whole baby shrimp and so hot you have to wait to bite. Great price on the egg rolls. Can't speak to anything else! Sorry. No inside dinning. read more

May look a little 'different' on the outside, but it's your typical in-and-out older restaurant. Service was quick, and food was actually pretty good. Can't complain for the price. read more

Very very rude, slow, and greasy food. Their attitude makes it even worse. Panda Express would be better than this any day. It feels very dirty in here read more

It seems like we had food that had been sitting around all day. Even my lo mein was horrible. My husband didn't eat his general's chicken. It was really bad! read more

Solid basic Chinese takeout. Classic dishes that taste like you expect them to, food was ready quickly and price was reasonable.

Today China Wok gets just 2 stars. I ordered the exact same food that I ordered last week, and was charged over $10 more for LESS food. My order was screwed up. I did not order soup & was charged for soup. I did not order white rice & was charged for a box of white rice. I ordered wontons that come w/ a soy dipping sauce and that was NOT in the bag, & trying to explain that to the lady at the window got me no where-she insisted the crispy cheese wontons were the same as the fried wontons. I explained that I was overcharged and you would think a restaurant would want to straighten that out, but not this lady--I was just rushed aside and on to the next customer. Be warned that your over the phone order may not be what you get when you pick it up--check your bag!! read more

First and foremost I'd like to say I just moved to Asheville from New York and Haven't been able to find a good Chinese restaurant. This one here is hands down the best I've had in Asheville! Owner was EXTREMELY nice food was amazing and extremely fresh! They make their own hot sauce, they also give you an egg roll AND a soda with your combo. They don't do that in New York! Screw those reviews below they wouldn't know good Chinese food if they were in Shanghai! read more

The food is delicious. But the facilities need a refresh. The awnings outside the front of the store are hideously stained and it looks like the windows have never been cleaned. We've been getting takeout here for years. The owners should take some time and fix up the building . read more

Absolutely the worst Chinese takeout I've ever tried. Can it say eaten, because I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Shame on the other reviewers. Not even decent for college Chinese food. read more

China wok is an Asheville staple and I have enjoyed their food for nearly 18 years, I hope they never close!

Chinese food is so familiar to us but varies so much from place to place. China wok is a good quality. The taste is very impressive. Their selection of vegetarian foods is really good. It's all carry out but I do recommend it. It is hard to find good vegetables and vegetarian entrées at Chinese restaurants around here. read more

I'm an Asheville native and if you want the best take out Chinese food you better get it from here. It's very cheap and you always get a lot of food. The food is always very good and taste amazing! read more

Best Cashew Chicken I ever had in the south!! Sits way back off the Road, but very much worth it!

Great prices and great food. Definitely more of a takeout place. I typically get food from here once a week at least, along with most of my friend group. Great service and I've never had an issue with an order. I can typically call in my order, immediately leave my dorm on UNCA campus and it'll be ready by the time I get there. I really do love this place. read more

I don't go to such a buffet as China Wok expecting the best food - just something quick and easy. Judging by the girth of many of those around me, most of them go so they can eat themselves into an MSG coma and get at least their $8.99 worth. The food was okay (although most of the main courses taste much the same as each other.) I had one bowl of soup, an egg roll, and only one plate of food plus a cup of tea, so I probably didn't get my money's worth - but again, I went for the speed and convenience. When I got my check, however, I was astounded to find they charged me $2.75 for A CUP OF BREWED TEA! I can only imagine what they charge for soft drinks! Never again! read more

A big crawled from under my rice. Greasy, rice tasted old. Chicken tasted like it was already fried and they deep fried it again to make it hot to sell. I got chicken wings and pork fried rice. I won't go back. read more

I go here at least once a week! Amazing chinese food and great prices!

There are not many Chinese places in Asheville so I take what I can get. This is better than most but it is an order at the counter kinda place. They have seating but I suggest getting it to go if you can. The dinning room is not the best. This is not a normal seat down place. It is good for a quick and cheap meal. I went with the lunch schezwan chicken with pork fried rice. I added a hot and sour soup. You can judge a place by its hot and sour soup. It was real good here. The schezwan chicken was good but I would look at getting something different next time. I am still on my adventure to find great Chinese food in Asheville. Until that day I will be eating it here. read more

Fake yellow fried rice. The chicken wasn't chicken. Avoid. Asheville has zero good Chinese food

Satisfied that must have Chinese NOW, craving. I have had Chinese food from Maine to Las Vegas to NYC to Florida and this is good ole American Chinese food. No it is not like Chinatown food but it is good and things are done correctly. Reminds me of many a Chinese restaurant one finds on Long Island in NY. read more

I'm giving China Wok an enthusiastic 3 stars, because sometimes you just really wanna eat 3-star Chinese food! Here's your place! What is 3-star chinese food? It's "Chinese" "food" with scare quotes around both words. It's unpretentious and wildly inauthentic and terrible for your arteries. It's the gooey stuff they pour over rice at your local mall's food court. Doughy egg rolls. Cornstarchy sauces. It has funny, non-descriptive names for things like "Sizzling Jade Buddha Dragon" where you close your eyes, point at the menu, and assume it'll taste exactly like everything else they serve because it is, in fact, the same item listed multiple ways, and only the title has changed. Fried proteins that are mostly breading and MSG. Hot and sour soup with little fried noodles floating in it. Everything, of course, comes swimming in a puddle of unidentified brown goo, ladled over "ham" fried rice that's actually made with off-label spam. That kind of "Chinese" "food". The kind you crave at 2 in the morning. The kind you think about all day long after your honey dumps you. The kind with fortune cookies and cheap, splintery wooden chop sticks in paper wrappers and little sachets of brown salty water labeled "soy sauce". Simple, non-challenging, comforting "Chinese" "food". I love it! This place has it. This is where you come to get your "Chinese" "food" fix. Ample portions, excellent Hot&Sour, and nasty "Szechwan" dishes (maybe nasty in a way that will tickle your fancy; do you love food coloring?). A week's worth of steamed white rice comes with every order. A little pricey and they don't deliver, but for the category this place is probably the best AVL has to offer. read more

I want to like this place every time I stop in - I've been at least three times now. But even compared to your little local Chinese place that I know is in your town, trusty reader, China Wok ain't that great. The menu is completely standard, so if you're looking for something familiar don't worry about not finding it. On the other hand those favorites are not done too well - the Won Ton soup is sort of craptacular, like the worst Won Ton's floating in salty soy-sauce water. The fried rice is standard, and the entrees are about the same. Redeeming points: it is close to my house, close to UNC-A, open to 11 on weekends, the owners are nice, they eat the good looking food as a family if you come in late, and is cheap - I mean less than five dollars for a lunch special out the door. But the main thing is the food is pretty rotten. read more

Just had lunch at China Wok and it was "A-OK". There are a few things you need to keep in mind before you visit here. Namely, that this is a no frills simple little Chinese joint. So don't expect anything fancy. That being said though, it is dirt cheap and reasonably tasty. I went with the Mongolian Chicken and some hot and sour soup. Both were fine but neither stood out. My one complaint is that "holy fungi Batman" there were a lot of mushrooms in both. This didn't sit very well with me since I'm not a fan of mushrooms. So beware. Both of my coworkers seemed happy enough with their dishes. I wouldn't be opposed to returning but I also wouldn't seek it out. read more

As an earlier reviewer wrote "I want to like this place every time I stop" but no more, I'm done with them as of tonight. The only real plus to China Wok is it's convenience in N. Asheville. I have eaten there 4 to 5 times and the food has gotten worse with each visit. Anything with something other then chicken or shrimp (pork or beef) is almost uneatable. You can tell some of the appetizers are frozen, packaged food, the spring rolls are always stale and shrimp were ancient. I have had some lo mein there which was okay. If you must eat there keep it simple, fried rice, lo mein, etc. The prices listed on the internet are wrong. Maybe I would have written something more positive if the spring roll that I just bought from there and bit into before writing hadn't squirted grease all over my computer. read more

Ordered multiple large items to create a mini buffet at home. The order was accurate and plenty of each item. The moo shu pork was the best I thought but I was very disappointed and turned off by the Lobster Lo Mein. The hot and sour soup was tasty but way too thick for that type of soup. read more

the worst Chinese food ever tasted. the rib dinner tasted like red tomato sauce poured onto fatty greasy rib let's. the fried rice had little flavor with some chopped onions. nothing else. we exchanged awful egg roll with spring rolls hoping they were better. they were awful, thick fried dough with mashed filing. yuck. Don't order from China Wok. There must be better Chinese food in Asheville. read more

Exactly what you would expect: cheap, fast, average American Chinese food. I don't think it is fare to judge it at a standard of a Chinese place... it is more like a McDonald's of Chinese. The service was friendly, the food was cheap (for three dishes for about 17 dollars), and it was pretty fast. So... for what it is? It is exactly what you'd expect. read more

China Wok - Egg foo young, veggie delight, and general tsaos chicken. - Chinese Near Me - Asheville, North Carolina

Okay, we love this place. Best Chinese take-out in Asheville. We always get the hot and sour soup, spring rolls, the pork lo mein and the general tso's chicken (white meat only, sauce on the side, extra hot). Always consistent, always hit's that right spot. 4 stars for Asheville. Don't expect what you'd find in SF, DC, NYC, etc. read more

Food was good but keep a close eye on your account when paying by card. They added $10.00 when submitting to my bank. Better to pay in cash. read more

This is my favorite Chinese take-out in Asheville. It is just American-style Chinese, but they do it pretty well & the prices are really reasonable. We almost always have lunch leftovers the next day. They do have dine-in space too, but I'm not sure I've ever stayed for that & the ambiance is decidedly "no frills". Over the years We've tried a number of their dishes but the ones my husband and I often return to include the General Tso's, *Shredded beef w/Garlic, Vegetable Delight, *Mixed Vegetables w/Garlic , chicken or beef w/broccoli, & *Orange Chicken. We order a qt of the Wonton soup every time; it's a little salty sometimes, but I always enjoy it. read more
