First I wish I read more of the reviews. Glad I had it delivered and didn't go there. Moo Shu Pork was how it should look but taste of the sauce was off. The pancakes were awful, so thin they held nothing and no taste. The friend rice was dry and bland. No sauces or utensils. Just not willing to try any thing else. I cant believe people from NY are saying its some of the best just like they used to have. I had some of the best Chinese all over NY and Long Island mostly in the 80's and 90's so maybe times have changed. This was not it. read more

We ordered from China taste tonight based on the reviews and star ratings on yelp. So disappointed in some of the food. We ordered over 110.00 worth of food. We got two combos one was pork lomein which was fine however, the boneless spare rib combo wasn't good. The ribs were dry with absolutely no moisture in them. The egg rolls were so greasy. No crisp in them at all. The wontons and the crab Rangoon were also greasy. Either the fryer was not up to temp or the oil was old. The fried rice was ok and the fried chicken wings were good. Idk if the chicken and broccoli was good because I didn't eat it but it looked alright. I don't think I will be ordering from them again read more

First of all, it's hard to remember to take photos of your delivery order when you're so hungry you could eat a whole horse. But we distinctly want to recognize and show our gratitude to the restaurant for what we consider to be outstanding Chinese food. The definitive star of the bunch was the BBQ Ribs. Oi - drive you nuts kind of good!!! The shrimp with snow peas was bonkers good as well. The not so spectacular was the chop suey. First of all, whatever they delivered wasn't it. It was tasty and well seasoned but they didn't follow the traditional recipe. The wonton soup was hot and well seasoned- not a hint of MSG. Finally - huge thanks to Peter our Uber delivery driver who expeditiously handed our food in record time. I mean from the point of order to the actual hand over was completed in 20 minutes. I kid you not. I think this is also because of the QMenu app. Brilliant execution of what a food delivery app should be! China Taste is isn't a place I would seek out but it will do in a pinch though I might regret it a touch. I have ordered my standard test a new American Chinese food foods - wonton soup, egg roll, chicken and broccoli. The soup I didn't like and didn't eat. The egg roll was fine though a skinny almost spring roll size. The chicken and broccoli was sold but highly sugared and had a lot of msg. I also tasted the fried rice (bland, not good), the Lo mein (solid but msg heavy), bean curd family style type dish (also solid but sugary and msg heavy). So eh. I gave it a 4/5 stars only because the Lo Mein and Fried Rice had way to many onions. But I've eaten here before and it was 5/5 stars! If you're craving Chinese this is the place to go! I've been looking for a good Chinese food place since leaving New York and I've finally found it. Had a low-key Christmas this year so naturally turned to a traditional Chinese food dinner and was very happy to see China taste was open! Between two of us we got a general Tsos combo platter (comes with rice and a side soup), pint of sweet and sour chicken (comes with rice), pint of veggie lo mein and a side of brown sauce and with tip it was still under $30 for all of that- better yet all the food was good and tasted very fresh, plus the portions were HUGE. This was some of the worst Chinese food we've ever had the displeasure of eating. The Kung Pao tofu was the best dish we tried and it was very mediocre. All the vegetables in the fried rice looked old. The.l baby corn was a weird grey tinged color and the peas were shriveled. It also just did not taste like fried rice. Why was it yellow?! The broccoli in garlic sauce was so mushy and had such a strange taste I didn't even eat it. The white rice was prepared perfectly and that's the best I can say about this place. The quality can vary a little from day to day, but the food here is generally of good quality. The hot & sour soup is a perfect example. Sometimes, it's excellent. Other times, it's strictly average. As entrées go, I usually get the beef and string beans or lemon chicken, and both are consistently good. Oh not my fave! I ordered steak and shrimp hibachi and I got a saucy, steak and broccoli dish with some not so fresh shrimp thrown into the mix. They have a large selection of vegetarian meal options and all the standard favorites I might not have mentioned above. This place blows all the other Chinese takeouts in Asheville out of the water, so don't waste ur time with the competition like Metro Chinese on Merriman. My fondest hope is that someday Asheville will get a really good Chinese restaurant, preferably Szechuan-style such as the amazing Gourmet Kingdom in Carrboro. This is not it. However, the food at China Taste, a little take-out spot in West Asheville, isn't bad. Plus, I give it points for opening in West Asheville and for offering delivery. It's also quite reasonably priced, given the large servings. I think it opened early in 2015. Rare in Asheville, China Taste offers delivery, but only in West Asheville within about a 3-mile radius of its location on State Street, roughly mid-way between Amboy Road and Haywood Road. The menu boasts, "Chinese Food to Take & Eat in New York Style!" Somehow, though, it doesn't remind my much of the Chinese take-out and delivery I used to love on New York's Upper West Side. Some may remember it as the former site of a Cuban sandwich shop and laundrymat and grocery. It also has a few seats if you want to eat at the restaurant. The food is basically Cantonese-American, with all the usual Egg Rolls, Chow Mein, Fried Rice, General Tso's this and that, twice-cooked this and that, seafood dishes with lobster sauce, Egg Foo Young, Sweet and Sour Chicken, along with a few Szechuan and Hunan-style dishes. There are even a couple of Thai items, such as Pad Thai. Most are not spicy, even those that are rated so. We did take out and ordered a variety of common dishes to see how they compared with other local Chinese options. Among the appetizers, the BBQ pork spare ribs ($6.95), with the standard red sauce, were tasty and had lots of meat on them. The shrimp dumplings ($4.95) were pretty good, though next time I'd order the regular dumplings. For main dishes, we had the Orange Chicken ($10.95), which was not up to even Asheville Chinese standards, in my opinion. The Hunan Beef (small order for $5.95) was okay, and the Moo Shu Pork ($9.25) was light on shredded pork but had delicate very thin pancakes. The String Beans with Garlic Sauce (small order, $4.50) were crispy enough, if not very garlicy. Steamed white rice, not anything special, came with most dishes. This big bagful of Chinese totaled $45, not including tax. There was plenty enough for three or four meals for two, and in fact, except perhaps for the Orange Chicken, the dishes seemed to improve on the second and even third day. The menu is lengthy, running to well over 125 dishes plus many combination plates and sides. Service is friendly and the meal was ready for pick-up when promised. Bottom line: I'll probably occasionally get take-out here again, and I appreciate having more Chinese options on the West Side (we have a similar Chinese takeout spot in the Westridge Shopping Center and two Chinese buffet places and probably a couple of other spots), but I'm still dreaming of Gourmet Kingdom, with its tasty, uberhot Szechuan that brings tears to my eyes. read more
