I ordered the tonkotsu ramen and it was flavourful. the noodles were thinner than i was expecting but very bouncy and the texture was good. We ordered the frenchie taiyaki and the ice cream sandwich was hard but the custard one was warm and perfectly filled. The server was alone and so she was seating tables, bringing out the food, taking orders all while also caring for the pick up orders but she did a great job of making sure we weren't waiting too long. I am NOT a fan of Garden state plaza due to the huge size and because it is usually packed! I do love the variety of stores and the newer section. While in the mall recently I popped into Tojo for a late lunch. The mall was super crowded but Tojo's was nicely spaced. I tried soup, dumplings, calamari and rice bowl. All were tasty. The calamari was delicious and so were the dumplings. The soup took quite some time to come out (I think they forgot ) but all else came out rather timely. I will return. read more

So glad my cousin recommended Tojo Chicken! We got caught in the pre-Christmas rush at GSP and we decided to eat here when we got hungry to avoid the busy food court. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry. The sauce for the curry matches up to other restaurants I've been to and I love how I don't have to travel to Pal Park or Fort Lee for great food! I also loved the hot green tea. I appreciate the use of loose leaf tea instead of pre-made tea bags. Service can be a little slow even when there isn't many people in the restaurant. Very bad customer service, we were the only two customers in the restaurant, and it took over half hour to cook one bowl of ramen. The waiter was also in the kitchen. No service person in the restaurant. After 40 minutes I finally got my ramen, I found out the noodles were still raw, I complained to a group of people in the kitchen, the lady said she could recook, my husband and I packed the noodle soup and went home to recook. Yesterday, my sister and I tried ramen for the first time. I was really excited about it since I always hear people raving about it and I just genuinely enjoy watching people on YouTube eat ramen (do not judge me). My sister and I ordered the spicy pork buns, veggie gyoza, and we both ordered the red spicy ramen. You guys, we did not like it at all. It wasn't disgusting. The broth was flavorful. It's just that... it reminded me of $0.99 ramen noodles that you buy at the supermarket. We felt hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray. We were looking forward to something exciting and different. But we both looked at each other and said, "we could have made this at home." Oh, and I definitely loved the egg! I've always wanted to try eggs in ramen! But I'm giving a 4 star rating because I think the restaurant is cute. We loved the lemonade. Our waiter was very sweet and I made sure to leave her a wonderful tip because our tastebuds not agreeing with the ramen noodles had nothing to do with her. It's not you, Tojo, it's me (or us). Yummy, diverse ramen options in an unassuming place -- the Garden State mall. This location is huge - and whatever you're imagining as a large restaurant multiple it by like 6. Dining in, not only are you the COVID friendly 6 ft from the next table, you can be even as far apart as 10-15 feet. Staff takes your temperature and gives you options to view the menu through the QR code of your phone. While the ramen tasted liked it was prepared with finesse, one thing I couldn't get over was how overpriced the drinks were and how they did not look anything like the presentation that was advertised. We ordered the shiso and grape drink that came in these cute Capri sun like pouches but tasted moreso like they were just seltzer blended with sugary syrups rather than carefully prepared with the ingredients that were listed. Each drink was about $5. Overall, I would say this place is a cute date spot if you are looking to introduce somebody to a pretty good bowl of ramen, service is friendly but doesn't stop by frequently enough once they take your order. My wife and I had the good fortune to have dinner at Tojo's Kitchen this evening. Great food and great service from Minchan, our waiter. We had appetizers of sweet ube potato fries and harumaki veggie rolls. The main dishes: tonkotsu ramen with shrimp and beef chashu don. The beef was VERY lean and tasty. Might be one of my fave ramen spots in NJ! I would even argue that this place was most authentic to what I've had in Tokyo. Really like the flavor of the black garlic Tonkotsu. The dish was a hearty portion. The broth was deep and rich, and not overpowering in garlic as most people would think. The chasu pork was probably the best! My husband and I were at the mall (I forgot why we were there in the first place), but we decided to get lunch here. We were curious about Tojo's Kitchen because my husband says he hasn't seen it before, meaning it's new. Since it was past noon by then, the restaurant was not crowded at all. The entire space is huge and sprawling, which allows tables to be far apart from one another. It's nice because you can't really hear the people talking next to you. We were seated near the kitchen and we ordered pretty quickly. It helps to order when you're hungry. I got hot tea, my husband ordered Thai tea, and for food, we both an order of the pork gyoza to share, my husband got tonkotsu ramen and I got beef udon. First off, the tea comes in this little tiny teapot and you pour the tea into your teacup yourself, which I really love. My husband's Thai tea came in this little pouch that I think was the most adorable and smartest thing ever. The gyoza's were great (they usually are), my udon was sublime. I couldn't get udon back in Arizona because there was a shortage there, but I was ecstatic to get it here. Not only was the udon so good, it made me appreciate all the times I got udon because you never know when there will be a shortage. My husband really liked his ramen and the broth was flavorful. Portion wise, it was perfect. It doesn't overfill or underfill you. If you haven't tried Tojo's I recommend it. Would absolutely return! read more

Not bad, but I've had better. Long story short - good food, slow customer service. I've tried a few things here - pork buns, takoyaki, classic Tonkotsu ramen, and Katsu Curry Rice. They all taste good, and you can tell from the freshness of the meals that they're cooked and made to order. However, that's the problem. They're all made to order and it seems that they don't have the adequate kitchen staff to handle the crowd since dishes come out extremely slow. For example, I saw a table of 4 across from us who got their bowls of ramen one at a time with 15 minutes between the first bowl that came out and the last. Last time I was here, I got my Katsu Curry Rice almost 10 minutes before my boyfriend got his ramen. Also, the space is so large for such a small amount of tables. Sometimes spacious works, but in this case, it's just confusing. Overall, I do like the food here but I think they need more time to work out the kinks of being a new restaurant in the mall and hire more staff to get the food out in a more reasonable time frame. read more
