We never had a chance to come here to have a cup of coffee. We happened to come here before 10:00 AM. Those tea shops weren't open yet, so we got to enter Phin La . The first impression of their coffee menu is: why does it have so many colors in their drinks? And why are there many ingredients which feel like they shouldn't be in coffee? Banana, ube, sesame, etc. Whatsoever, I recall I ordered the sesame and banana latte. Surprisingly, it had an indescribable but well-mixed flavor. One sip was enough to tell me it was better than any specialty drink at Starbucks. Vietnamese cafes have done some crazy and playful experiments on all kinds of toppings for coffee. The ratio of milk to everything else was perfect. But the star of the show was the ube cream! It was so thick, I was able to coat the straw with it and really savor every little bit (even scraped the inside of the cup)! The deep purple color so appetizing. I did taste the matcha and espresso, but not so much the coconut milk. The drink was decent. For $10 for a drink though, it's definitely on the pricier side for a coffee drink. I also purchased the set of 6 bear macarons. They are so cute! It's $23 for the set, no tax, and you're basically getting one for free since one macaron is $4.5. The macarons came frozen. I would come back and try out the other drinks, especially the non coffee drinks. Their specialty drinks sound good. Staff were really nice and they explained a lot of their menu to me.

I also appreciate how there is some seating available (high top table by the front windows, bench seating along one side of the store). It's not the best cafe if you want to work or have a long chat, but it's nice that there's the option to sit and relax instead of just taking your drink to go. There's a few stools lined against the wood counter by the front door facing the street. There's small tables in the middle, and there's also a couch in the back which I was surprised to find. The lids are taped, and there's a bag available even for a single drink -- sometimes you just want an iced drink during cold weather but don't want your hands to be freezing, so it's perfect. Cute interior deco filled with puppy-themed pictures. They even have stickers with puppies and drinks drawn on them. A few seats to the side on the inside, but it's better to get takeout.
