Ambiance and our server were the most enjoyable part of our dinner, with that being said... I am extremely disappointed with our experience at Toccoa Riverside, and unfortunately, the biggest issue was the way it was handled by the manager on duty, Austin. We ordered a chicken nuggets kids meal for our 1 1/2-year-old son. When the meal arrived, he refused to eat it, which is unusual for him. After trying a piece ourselves, it was obvious why--the nuggets tasted freezer-burned, chewy, and completely inedible. They did not seem fresh and were not something I would feel comfortable serving to a toddler. We politely brought the issue to the attention of our server and asked if the meal could be switched for something else. Rather than showing any concern or attempting to make things right, Austin refused to accommodate the request. We weren't asking for a free meal or trying to be difficult--we simply wanted our young child to have something he could actually eat. What was most frustrating wasn't even the poor quality of the food, but the complete lack of customer service and common sense in handling the situation. A manager's job is to resolve problems and take care of guests, especially when it involves a child's meal. Instead, Austin chose to be unhelpful and inflexible, leaving us feeling dismissed and unwelcome. Kind of concerning the GM and owners of can leave this "MOD" responsible for handling their business. Restaurants make mistakes, and most customers understand that. What separates a good restaurant from a bad one is how those mistakes are handled. Horrible atmosphere and an extremely disappointing experience. We traveled all the way from Florida specifically to enjoy lunch by the river after a long hike, and we were shocked by how unwelcoming we were made to feel. The restaurant had literally just opened and there were only two people inside. I went in first and politely asked the hostess if I could bring my service animal in so we could sit outside by the river. She said yes. I then went back to the car, brought my dog and girlfriend inside, and was accosted by the disheveled, greasy-looking owner, who insisted that my service animal needed to be wearing a specific service-animal jacket in order to enter. (Under the ADA, a legitimate service dog does not have to wear a vest, jacket, special collar, ID tag, or harness. A restaurant cannot make a vest a prerequisite for entry.) I explained that he was a service animal and provided documentation, but the owner continued to argue with me. The entire interaction was incredibly uncomfortable and unnecessary. We ultimately decided to take our business elsewhere. It's disappointing to travel such a long way and be treated so poorly, especially when we approached the staff respectfully and followed the proper procedures and provided paperwork. The Cajun pasta apparently lost its Cajun somewhere between the kitchen and the table. It was bland, watery, greasy, and had almost no flavor whatsoever. I honestly don't think I've ever had a pasta dish that tasted so... well... like nothing. The smoked salmon wasn't bad, just unusual. The texture was definitely fish, but the flavor reminded me of shredded ham. It wasn't unpleasant--just unexpected. The sweet potato was undercooked and still hard. I'm honestly not sure how you manage to undercook a sweet potato. The red mashed potatoes tasted like someone simply mashed up a boiled red potato and called it a day. No butter, no salt, no pepper, no seasoning--just plain potato. This restaurant has the kind of breathtaking location that should make it a destination. With the right chef and a menu that delivers on the view, this could easily be a place people would gladly pay $50-$60 a steak dinner to experience. First time visitor to the area with our family of six. We sat at a table outside by the river, which had huge umbrellas to shade from the sun, which was a nice touch. Our waitress was super helpful and very attentive refilling drinks without asking. For appetizers we started with the fried green tomatoes, which were just OK as they were served with a marinara sauce different taste profile. We called and got their answering machine. Couldn't talk to a human. We checked their website for any closure notices. Even checked their social media. All I had on Instagram was a happy 4th graphic with no indication of their hours on the 4th. Nothing indicated they would be closed on July 4th. But, when we arrived on July 4th guess what? They were closed. If you are going to have updated holiday hours, it needs to be communicated in some way to your customers. We checked three different ways and there was no indication of a closure. Toccoa Riverside has some of the kindest servers around. Truly. They remembered our names, loved on our son, and did everything right tonight. Then the owner entered the chat. We had already paid our $200 tab and were literally waiting on dessert when I took my son to the bathroom to change his diaper. I came back to find my family gone and four grown men sitting at our table like we had been abducted mid-pie. Apparently the owner told my husband and parents they needed to leave because he needed to turn the table. Dessert hadn't even hit the table yet. As a restaurant owner myself, I cannot imagine being so frantic for another cover that I separate an entire family while the mother is in the bathroom with her child. The level of anxiety-fueled chaos radiating off this man was honestly more memorable than the food. The servers deserve applause. The owner deserves a nap and a therapist. read more

There were things that could be added to an entree and we tried but apparently according to the chef/owner a burger isn't an entree and I couldn't add. It was an additional $18 so not sure what his beef was. I read many reviews basically saying the owner or chef is rude and a jackass. I asked for fries well done - they weren't - afraid to try to ask to send them back because I was afraid of guy telling me no as again I read the reviews. Really not bad. We were visiting North Carolina and were told about the Toccoa Riverside restaurant. It's a beautiful restaurant set right on the bank of the Toccoa River. We were promptly seated with a beautiful view of the river. We ordered the Baja Fish tacos, grilled cheese sandwich, and the grouper sandwich for lunch. Our Food came out fairly quickly. The grouper sandwich was delicious, but the coleslaw was a bit odd. the Baja fish tacos were delicious but the french fries were ordered well done and they were obviously not well done. The grilled cheese sandwich was good, but it really wasn't anything special and again the french fries were not well done. The place has a lot of charm right on the river. We stopped here for lunch. It's a beautiful cabin like feel with a gorgeous view of the Toccoa River. We sat outside with the best view of the river and their beautiful outdoor space. Excellent service complete with recommendations. We had the fried catfish and my husband had the fried trout sandwich. My draft beer was a citrus wheat that was one of the best I've had. Just the right about of citrus. A perfect beer on a hot day. We shared the smoked fish spread and a scallop special for appetizers. The scallops were prepared with a delicious blackened top. The dessert we took back to our cabin was cheesecake and pecan pie. Absolutely delicious! We look forward to eating here again. read more
