I made an appointment with Dr. Shore because I am irritated by a heavy eyelid. After consultation, Shore suggested blepharoplasty on both eyelids and ptosis repair on one. Dr. Shore was nice, professional and efficient. I proceeded to work with Tammy, who was friendly. At that time I learned the office charged $90 to take two photographs of my eye with a point and click camera. My insurance dictates that I pay 30%, so I paid $30 for those pictures. I was a little miffed, but what are you going to do? Later in the week, I called Tammy and asked what self -pay would be if I chose that route. She advised me that it would be $3200, then corrected herself and said $4100. Obviously, that is a lot of money, but I came to terms with it. I called to schedule an appointment to self-pay, because I did not expect my insurance company to put forth a dime and I have a limited window of time to have the surgery. At that point I dealt with Mary and with her I had the most frustrating conversations I have ever had with a doctor's office. Specifically, she has a rude, terse attitude. As I asked a question, she would try to anticipate what I was going to ask and start answering that question. Despite me constantly saying, "I understand that, but that's not my question" she rarely let me finish a sentence. Then, she would get irritated with me. I guess she thought I just wasn't listening. I don't know. Every time I called there, I actually had anxiety, hoping Mary wouldn't answer the phone. I then spoke to Kristen, who was very pleasant, friendly, and easy to communicate with. She set up my appointment and called me a day later with the price which was $800 more than my original quote from Tammy. I inquired as to why it was almost $1000 more than what I had previously been told. She said she would speak to Tammy. She did and called me back and conceded that Tammy had quoted me $4100, but that was an estimate. The price is $4900. When I called and asked how much it would be, I was never advised that the price was subject to change or that it was a (very) rough estimate. At this point, I was beginning to lose interest in this office and wanted a second opinion/consultation with a different surgeon. Oculoplastic surgeons aren't common and I when I finally found another, his office needed a letter from Dr. Shore in order to take me as a new patient. I know this may come as a shock, but Dr. Shore was not willing to write a letter indicating his recommendations so I could get a second opinion. So. Here I sit. Judging by his credentials, I suspect Dr. Shore is an excellent surgeon. But I will never know. I suppose this office is doing well enough to allow them to dismiss a cash-paying client and for that I congratulate them. read more

I had an appointment with Dr. Blaydon for some skin tags under and above both eyes. My wife and I went to the consult and waited approximately 1 hour over the appointment time. Not that bad I guess.. ha. So I scheduled to have the tags removed and the 1st available opening was 2 months out. We go to the appointment and I asked if my wife can accompany us back and the doctor (use this term loosely) tells me that I'm a big boy and I will be alright. I tell him ok that I now want to cancel the procedure. He then allowed my wife back. When we got back to the surgical suite the doctor began badgering and belittling my wife and I. I finally told him if he didn't stop being rude and disrespectful to my wife and I we would leave. He left the room and came back like a different person. He finished the procedure (what a chance I took). Never have I encountered something so out of place in a professional setting. It has been several months since my rhinoplasty and I wanted to give an update. I continue to be happy with my nose. It looks great on my face. I don't cringe when I see pictures of my profile anymore. I also wear a shorter trendier hairstyle now because I feel more confident. I am happy to tell people about my experience because I think the surgical technique was so cool and I got just what I wanted. I'm just amazed what surgeons like Dr. Nakra can do! read more

Recently had surgery for Ptosis and Blepharoplasty by Dr. John Shore. Initially I knew the Ptosis remediation was required but I was uncertain if I should have the Blepharoplasty performed concurrently as I was not certain what the gains would be given the limited remediation that could be performed without resorting the Little Orphan Annie look. After speaking again with Dr. Shore about the second procedure, I decided to have it simultaneously with the Ptosis procedure. Well,after two and half hours, I emerged from the OR, swollen, sore and in pain. This was quickly addressed in recovery and a stronger pain medication than initially ordered prescribed for me. Recovery was slow but well monitored by the office after I left until I was Dr. Shore the following week to have the stitches removed. Swelling, discoloration and pin subsided substantially after the third day and I was able to admire Dr. Shore's handiwork which was quite intricate and elegant. I became a lot more optimistic. In spite of the remaining swelling, the result is my eyes look like they did 30 or 35 years ago. The Blepharoplasty in particular was a great success in spite of the delicacy of the operation and I would have to judge Dr. Shore as having very well practiced skills and judgement. I will say to anyone who asks me, consult with which ever specialist you want, but consult with Dr. Shore before the decision is made on either of these procedures. I quite think if Michelangelo had ever utilized a scalpel, his name would have been Dr. John Shore. read more

Sept. 2016 I went in for Ptosis surgery and some laser resurfacing, around my eyes and lips. By the 3rd day it was obvious something was wrong. I was put on anti-biotics and doing vinegar rinses, too. They also took a sample of my skin to analyize it. About a week later I was told I had a Staph infection. I was also told, "It was nothing you did!" So what happened? The healing took months. I'm not happy with the results. But I was told it would cost yet more money to "fix" and she wouldn't actually do much! So, I will go somewhere else to get it fixed, and be out even more money! read more

I had an excellent experience before, during, and after surgery on August 22, 2016. The staff provided professional care with a personal touch. The intake procedure was simple, straight forward, and very well organized! Everything was done to make the surgery virtually pain free, and it worked. Dr Nakra is amazing-sound surgical skills, professional/diplomatic consultative approach + exceptional bedside manner. He did a blepharoplasty on me, and while I did have some less than normal side effects he made sure to intervene and insure I was happy with my overall results...and I AM! The only negative thing I would say about my experience here is one staff member, a guy (probably good that I didn't catch his name so I don't blast targeted negative press) who came and checked all my intake info once I was in a room for my 1st initial consult. He said "your insurance will never approve this, we thought you were here for cash pay." I said well I would like to still meet Dr Nakra, and well...my insurance DID approve it with Zero hassle. The "Mr claiming to know it all" was completely wrong and acting so certain could be a turn off to some--after all he IS NOT a MD. A tech from what I could tell. Dr. Neuhaus at TOC is fantastic. I've seen him several times for blepharospasm (spasm or twitch of upper lid) and he puts some Botox into my lid and I'm all better. Very nice and professional too. I feel like I'm in very good hands. Only negative is that it takes a while to get in to see the doc. So I had to suffer with my eye twitch for almost a month. Dr. Blaydon and the staff at TOC are excellent. I've had two procedures by Dr. Blaydon and the results are terrific. The first was to repair my lower eyelid after a small cancer had been removed in 2016. The second was to correct droopy eyelids effecting my vision just a few weeks ago in 2018. Both procedures were relatively quick and comfortable. I am extremely satisfied with results. The scarring was very minimal and is already fading from the recent procedure. I don't even notice anything from the 2016 procedure. I returned to Dr. Blaydon for the second procedure because of his work the first time and I will do so again should I need anything in the future. read more

I am sadden to read the review of Jane S from Houston, TX. My experience is the opposite. I just had my eyelids lifted and my under eye bags removed. My last appointment was December 15th, 2013. I paid for my bag removal and Medicare picked up the tab for the eyelid lift because I qualified. It was expensive but in every respect, I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Shore and his Associates. The correction was perfection and I would highly recommend this doctor. My sister had the eye lid lift and had a similar excellent experience and outcome. Five stars...I also greatly appreciate the anesthesiologist who gave me a numbing medicine for the IV. The other comments I agree with are that there is at least a 20-30 minute wait from appt time until you even get called back without explanation. Was referred to Dr. Shore with my diagnosis of Ptosis. Meeting Dr. Shore for the first time was exciting after so many years of going undiagnosed. He is very professional. During my consultation he told me that after surgery I would have an 80% change that the Ptosis would spread to the other eye. Four days after surgery it spread to the other eye. Upon my check up, we decided to wait six weeks before scheduling the next surgery. A little disappointed that stitches were still left in but no big deal. My boyfriend took them out as I'm not from the Austin area. Surgeries were scheduled speedy. No scaring, and people that don't know I've had surgery can't tell. read more

I was referred to Dr. Todd Sheplar by Dr. Patricia Dearman for chalazion removal. I have to say these are two of the best Ophthalmologists in Austin. Although the surgery itself was not the most fun thing in the world(what surgery is), Dr. Shepler was great and walked me through it. He's a very caring doctor who is truly interested in helping his patients. On top of that he's a great surgeon! One of the reasons I was referred was due to the amout of chalazion I had to have removed. I had a consult , or rather several consults over this past year in regards to a post atrophic Moh's scar on my right cheek with Dr. Nakra. From the first consult he listened, offered solutions, asked me what I did not like about my scar, informed me what he could do.. He recommended my seeking other consults and I did, from Houston to Dallas to Austin and made phone calls across the nation. He came highly recommended by Top Surgeons in both coasts. He gave me his cell, his email, answered promptly and treated me with utmost respect. His CV is impressive and his results are what the end speak about his expertise. I viewed photos of his work, and made the decision to go ahead with surgery Dec. 17th of 2015. The day of surgery was perfect, from the check in to the nurses to the post phone call the following day I have been in good hands. In the surgery he had A Fellow who was training to be an Occufacial Cosmetic surgeon and I could hear him calmly explain what he was seeing when cut my scar tissue, how he would fix, why he chose this suture technique and with methodical perfection. He at one moment stopped and told the attending Physician he noticed there was an imperfection and explained how he was going to fix.. Dr. Nakra is highly skilled in both eyes and face having trained with several experts in Los Angeles and now is utilizing his skills to train others. He is a perfectionist which is what you want when choosing a Dr. I thank Dr. , his staff and will recommend him always as a first go to for Cosmetic surgery. Update: well it looks like doctor blaydon decided he didn't want to help me anymore. I actually called the office and told them I was done with him before I heard he was done with me. I'm left with this disfigurement and I have to go find someone else to finish his botched job. It's all because I won't let go of this and it's causing him distress. Poor poor him. After so much going back and forth with him with his constant lying to me and his constant contradictions it got to the point that neither one of us wanted to deal with the other. First he admitted the error and was willing to waive his fee, then he backtracked and said it wasn't his fault that this was a different issue now. Please, give me a break. I was born at night, not last night. From the beginning my issue was all about the money not about his ability after all I wanted him to continue but then his ego kicked in and he got indignant and short with me. He has the worst bedside manner and he will talk down to you rather than talk to you. I would suggest that if you need any surgery from TOC, I would go to any doctor but him. I would stay away from him because if things don't go well he will tell you "well at least you can see now"...... I guess it doesn't matter how deformed you are, as long as you could see. read more

I went to TOC for a sty that had turned into a very bad, painful infection after having gotten some erroneous information from the VIK Clinic in Lakeway. I saw Dr. Vikram Durairaj and was so glad I did. He took one look at my eye and how infected and swollen it was and said he needed to surgically lance it that day. He rearranged his schedule to make sure he could do it and while I can't say the surgery was something I'd EVER want to do again (think about 15 shots directly into your already super tender eyelid to numb it), I was in the best possible hands with Dr. Vik! He could not be a more caring doctor; he goes far and above any other person I've ever met in the medical profession giving out his personal email and phone and always promptly responding to any concerns, no matter how trivial: if his patient cares about something, he does. Dr Shore at TOC Eye and Face is a very caring person and very professional. From the first time I set foot in the office I was treated like an old friend. All the clerical staff and the nursing staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. I was informed of every step of my procedure and Dr Shore was very compassionate. My eyelids were drooping so badly that being able to see was very difficult. Now everything is clear and bright, so much so that I really do have to wear my sunglasses when I go out. Granted you do have to go through a little pain and some slight bruising, but the end results are spectacular. My friends say I even look 10 years younger. I recommend Dr Shore at TOC whenever I hear someone talking about their droopy eyelids. You will not regret using TOC for your procedure. read more

I had blepharoplasty done on both eyes in October 2014. Dr Blaydon and his team were absolutely wonderful. I took my Mom with me for the initial consult. He spent quite a bit of time with us and answered all of our questions. Two weeks before surgery, I went for the pre-op visit and was very nervous. I left feeling wonderful and very confident about my choice of surgeon. The day of surgery, Dr Blaydon, the surgical nurse, and the anesthesiologist each came in separately, met my parents, explained the entire procedure very thoroughly and verified that neither me nor my parents had any questions. When I went into the operating room, I was very impressed with the friendly banter and ease of the team. It made me feel good that they seem comfortable working together. When I got home, they called that day and the next to check on me. For my post op #1, Dr Blaydon removed my stitches & staples. He was very professional and made sure that I was satisfied with my results thus far. My friend took me and he was also very nice to her. For post op #2, I had to wait about 45mins as Dr Blaydon got busy with another patient. He came in and told me that he was running late, one of the nurses came to see if I needed more magazines, the receptionist brought me water, nuts and chocolate. Wow!! I highly recommend Texas Oculoplastic Consultants and Dr Blaydon. I am very happy with my results. Dr Blaydon did a fantastic job on my eyes. I normally am not a fan of writing reviews but feel like I should give the respect our doctor performing the surgery deserves. Our son had been through 53 surgeries at the age of 4 (cognitively 9 months and coping with 2 other syndromes) majority of those eye sight, every time we turned around we dealt with doctors either not knowing how to help our son or pushing surgery that long term affected his eye sight leaving him completely blind. We visited with a Dr.Shore last year to have the eye removed due to the glaucoma pressure causing insurmountable pain which he immediately got us in a performed a life changing surgery (amazing doctor) , this year his remaining eye had 7 surgeries and the ophthalmologist in the town we visited just insisted on more pointless surgeries I finally had enough. I contacted Dr. Shores office to find out he was out of town he told me his affiliate Dr. Vikram Durairaj would fill in.m not normally great when I have a new doctor but after speaking with there office on the phone and speaking with there receptionist Reiny we showed up for the consult, IMMEDIATELY they got into action scheduled a surgery for that Saturday so I didn't even have to miss work, while my son is having surgery there receptionist Reiny brought us snacks (mind you this is at a hospital clear across town and on a weekend) then we sat with the doctor WHO PROVED GODS GRACE!!! Our Son went from screaming 3-4 hours a day in excruciating pain to absolutely being a doll! Please if looking for someone to remove the eye go to this man. We are so confident in what he does and hope you will give him a shot. read more

A few years ago I was referred to Dr. Tanuj Nakra for Blephroplasty to my left eye. This is a situation I have had since birth and was happy to finally have a doctor who could address the problem. I found the front office staff to be professional, the doctor to be very nice, professional, and willing to answer my questions; however, when I was taken to discuss the surgery with the insurance staff I encountered problems. I followed all the steps, contacted my insurance, and waited to hear from TOC. After a few weeks with no response I called and was told the insurance had not responded and no they had not done a follow up contact to the insurance company. I contacted the insurance company and was told they had not received any of the required information, no forms, no photos, no phone calls. I contacted Geneva Grant and obtained the addressed the information had been sent to and it was incorrect. I considered that a human error and provided the correct information. I then waited a few more weeks and again contacted my insurance and was told the forms and photos had not been received. AGAIN, I spoke to someone in the insurance department of TOC. This went back and forth for several months. At the time I had met my out of pocket maximum for the plan year. I received the approval from the insurance company and asked that they fax it to TOC. I then called to arrange for the surgery and was told that Dr. Nakra had stated I had to bring in my co-pay at the time of the procedure. I had no co-pay as I had met the out of pocket maximum for the year and explained this to the person whom I was speaking. I was put on hold and when she returned to the call she informed me Dr. insisted that was the only way they would do my procedure. I reminded her that was a violation of the agreement they had with my insurance and demanding a cash payment from me could be considered abuse of power. I suggested if Dr. Nakra thought I was bringing $XX,XXX.XX in cash he could fold it in 5 corners and put it where the sun don't shine. I was put on hold and the next person I spoke to was Dr. Nakra who was yelling at me for swearing and cursing at his staff. What I have stated here is what I said. I did not raise my voice. I did not use any vulgar words. I don't know what she told him, nor do I care. What I was told by Dr. Nakra was that he had spoken with the other doctors in the practice and none would see me, but he would find another doctor to see me. I thanked him but declined. Why would I trust him to find me another physician? He informed me my case had taken more time than any other due to the insurance issues, but I had done the insurance staff's job by going to TOC's office to get the photos and forms, sending it to the insurance company's office, registered at my expense, and following up on it. Had it been correctly done by his staff to begin with all of this would have been avoided and I would be able to evaluate this provider. Instead, he put his staff ahead of his patient so my opinion is based on my experience with TOC staff and Dr. Nakra's seemingly inability to determine if the patient or the employee was more important to him. read more

I saw Dr.Blaydon for blepharoplasty on both eyes. I had to wait almost a month for my initial consultation, but this is the normal I'm finding with specialists. All paperwork for preauthorization with my insurance company was completed rather quickly. Once I was schefuled for surgery, the nurses called with pre op instructions and answered all calls/questions thoroughly. The day of the surgery went well, I was out in less than an hour. Post op meds had been called in a few days early so I wouldnt have to wait at the pharmacy after the surgery. I'm very pleased with the results, especially given that follow-ups were covered with surgery fee AND I received $220 back after insurance and discount.Best of all, I can see much better and I actually think I look a little younger! read more
