So, I decided that my first consultation would be at Eyes of Texas. The entire staff is not only friendly but very informative. It was difficult to ask questions because everything was covered from the start. Dr. Wong is clearly extremely passionate and knowledgeable about his work. I immediately knew that he is who I would trust to take care of my eyes. My surgery was yesterday and I couldn't be happier with the process or results so far. I am really looking forward to the end of the healing process. My only regret is not doing this 10 years ago. I highly recommend that if you are considering getting LASIK surgery to visit Eyes of Texas and Dr. Wong. And unless my memory is failing, his father (Dr. Mitchel Wong) treated my mother's cataracts in the 1980s. I have always been impressed by the state-of-the-art skills and equipment Austin Eye maintains. I'm also impressed that the Wongs have chosen to share their expertise by endowing an eye institute at the University of Texas at Austin. My most recent personal experience with Austin Eye was surgery for lens replacement. While some have derided the facility on Bee Caves Rd as factory-like, I would counter that with the fact that consistent good practices yield consistently good results. I felt well cared for throughout the process, and the results (my excellent recovery and visual acuity) speak for themselves. In the event there had been any problems, I was given Dr. Wong's direct cell number and email. The Austin Eye facility is beautiful, modern, and well-maintained. The same may be said of the older location along Jollyville Rd. I highly recommend Austin Eye for their expertise, state-of-the-art equipment set, and very positive and helpful office staff.

There are those who talk about thinking outside the box and those who simply do - in thought and…read moreaction. Dr. Dooner is among the latter; an exceptionally skilled and forward thinking surgeon. He's gone where other doctors refused to go, and given me sight that I never imagined possible. --------------- I have had eye problems since birth. Congenital cataracts weren't readily treated in infants in 1974. I also have microcornea which creates added challenges. But my parents stubbornly sought out a surgeon who was willing to do what he could. And while the outcome after six operations with complications was far better than expected, time took its toll and the relatively normal life I have led had become an exhausting charade that I could no longer maintain. After the original operations, I wore high powered hard contact lenses over frozen off-centered pupils. Light was too bright, dark was too dark, and if I didn't squint enough my lenses would drift and cause one object to look like six. Along the way, I had posterior vitreous detachments in both eyes which caused cobwebs and smears to obstruct my vision. I also developed glaucoma. Over the years, I saw many ophthalmologists. From Atlanta, to New York City to Baltimore, there was no shortage of reputable doctors. I would comment on symptoms that were troublesome, but I was never offered any potential solutions. Mostly I was told I had a difficult case, and to take the glaucoma drops and come back for pressure checks. More than one said something along the lines of "What do you want from me? You just need a glaucoma specialist" One said "I don't know why you can even see." Not hopeful to say the least. Flash forward - I moved to Austin in 2019 and eventually found a great glaucoma specialist. When I asked him if there were any options for my other conditions, I expected to hear "No" yet again. Instead he confidently referred me to Dr Dooner. Less than two weeks after my initial visit with him, Dr Dooner operated on my left eye. I had a vitrectomy, a lens implant and my pupil enlarged and centered. Six weeks later I had the same done on my right eye. These surgeries have been nothing short of life changing. Not only have all the symptoms I was struggling with been cured, but the sight I have now is better than ever. Also, I have hope now. For a while, I felt that medicine would leave me behind. Now, because of Dr Dooner, I feel like I can embrace possibility again. Oh and he's also a really nice down to earth guy and a caring doctor. Couldn't ask for more.

Austin Retina had nothing to do with the issue; they just were there to help us when a cataract surgery didn't go as expected.... Austin Retina, their entire staff have been 10/10. We chose to see Robert Wong. Dr. Robert Wong; he is a fantastic man. He is an honest man. He is the most incredible doctor that understands the back of the eye. He can be trusted to be honest, careful, and very protective of his patient. He is a true physician who understands the creed: "first, do no harm." Our experience so far has taken near two months.. and maybe two more months to go.... But with eye issues, patience is the key. My father has already gained back partial vision of his right eye and Dr, Robert Wong hasn't even operated yet. He has successfully guided and walked my father and our family thru a very traumatic experience. My dad now has his vision nearly restored... and this doctor has executed his job with a level of respect, professionalism and clinical skill that is so outstanding that I am now out of words.

While the Rx was expired (of course), I was able to text a photo of the broken glasses. Melissa said they could fix them & to come in. We were there less than 15 mins- temporary but sturdy fix! Melissa was assisting others when we arrived, however the guy (I didn't get his name) that helped us & performed the fix was just as friendly & helpful. Awesome service! Thank you!
