I scheduled an appointment (I was able to be seen the next day) and the visit went smoothly. The office staff was friendly and efficient, and Dr. Lindsey was delightful. Every good thing Michelle said about Dr. Lindsey was true for me, too. We had a good time chatting about faculty we knew in common. My fears of an eye infection were groundless (my discomfort was most likely due to allergies so she gave me some eyedrops). I had her do a full refraction and eye exam since I was already there. She found my current eyeglass prescription was fine and didn't need to be changed, and that my eyes were perfectly healthy (she said they were likely the healthiest she'd see all day). I'll see her again in a year, and look forward to it. If you need an ophthalmologist who is well-trained in diseases of the eye as well as the normal eyeglass and contact lens fitting, then I recommend Dr. Lindsey. Other physicians who are members of the group practice (The Eye Institute of Austin) appear to be equally stellar in their pedigrees.

When I finally got to see Dr Lancaster close to the 6 month mark, he told me my only option was to have one of the multi-focal lenses replaced with a mono focal lens, which he originally talked me out of prior to the surgery - oh and here is the best part - I was going to have to pay for the surgery because it had been six months!! So much for lifetime guarantee. Oh, and the BS they tell you about being to make any necessary corrections to the lenses, if necessary, after the surgery was not true. They never even offered that as a solution. They even sent me to an outside retina specialist who confirmed the blurry vision had nothing to do with my retina. I called three times trying to speak to someone about those results and no one would return my call. Its been over 2 months and crickets. I have been trying to get my medical records from them so I can go somewhere else to get my eyes fixed, but so far they have failed to give them to me. I spoke to someone who said they would email them, they didn't. I've left several messages because they don't answer the phone and I have received zero call backs. If you are willing to spend the 12k for this surgery, I suggest finding someone else because, in this case, you don't get what you pay for.

I really like Dr. Crear and some of the PAs so it's a shame that the messaging service is not held to a high standard. Honestly, it's like talking to a child...but one who clearly uses AI to polish their grammar. The level of incompetence - with incorrect prescriptions called in and incorrect information relayed - is concerning. I hope they don't have these medical assistants completing tasks that require common sense, like relaying important test results. I know practices are trying to increase profits, especially those practices that are owned by private equity (which this place may be--IDK). But please consider your patients. Don't run a competent practice into the ground by having these assistants do what medical professionals should be doing. Employ some actual nurses to answer patient questions for god's sake, not just "medical assistants."
