I had problems leaving my glowing review on a different website, so I'll try to leave it here…read moreinstead: My first experience at Austin Eye Center was 100 out of 100. Sabrina (the assistant at the front desk) could not have been nicer, so my initial impression was excellent right as I walked inside the practice. She was warm, funny, accommodating, understanding, and professional. And as others have said, the office is immaculate. It's extremely calming and classy. Dr. Makkouk was as amazing as his many, many 5-stars indicate. I have an extremely complex retina and/or neurological issue that several other doctors have, frankly, "passed the buck" on. I just really wanted to be able to tell my story, including the myriad variables that are potentially at play, and have a doctor try to brainstorm with me. Dr. Makkouk was SO patient and did just that - ranked the possibilities in order of likelihood according to his professional opinion. This meant the world to me, and I really could understand his solid thought processes because he explained things so well. He also offered to closely work with my other doctors and confirmed what he thought were the best next steps. For all of his extremely impressive credentials and education, he could have been arrogant and/or dismissive, but he was the opposite. He genuinely wanted to help. I could go on and on about all the positives of his listening skills, demeanor, professionalism, etc. The gentleman who was with Dr. Makkouk before me came out with the doctor and said something to the effect of, "You are a fine young man." I concur, sir!

There are those who talk about thinking outside the box and those who simply do - in thought and…read moreaction. Dr. Dooner is among the latter; an exceptionally skilled and forward thinking surgeon. He's gone where other doctors refused to go, and given me sight that I never imagined possible. --------------- I have had eye problems since birth. Congenital cataracts weren't readily treated in infants in 1974. I also have microcornea which creates added challenges. But my parents stubbornly sought out a surgeon who was willing to do what he could. And while the outcome after six operations with complications was far better than expected, time took its toll and the relatively normal life I have led had become an exhausting charade that I could no longer maintain. After the original operations, I wore high powered hard contact lenses over frozen off-centered pupils. Light was too bright, dark was too dark, and if I didn't squint enough my lenses would drift and cause one object to look like six. Along the way, I had posterior vitreous detachments in both eyes which caused cobwebs and smears to obstruct my vision. I also developed glaucoma. Over the years, I saw many ophthalmologists. From Atlanta, to New York City to Baltimore, there was no shortage of reputable doctors. I would comment on symptoms that were troublesome, but I was never offered any potential solutions. Mostly I was told I had a difficult case, and to take the glaucoma drops and come back for pressure checks. More than one said something along the lines of "What do you want from me? You just need a glaucoma specialist" One said "I don't know why you can even see." Not hopeful to say the least. Flash forward - I moved to Austin in 2019 and eventually found a great glaucoma specialist. When I asked him if there were any options for my other conditions, I expected to hear "No" yet again. Instead he confidently referred me to Dr Dooner. Less than two weeks after my initial visit with him, Dr Dooner operated on my left eye. I had a vitrectomy, a lens implant and my pupil enlarged and centered. Six weeks later I had the same done on my right eye. These surgeries have been nothing short of life changing. Not only have all the symptoms I was struggling with been cured, but the sight I have now is better than ever. Also, I have hope now. For a while, I felt that medicine would leave me behind. Now, because of Dr Dooner, I feel like I can embrace possibility again. Oh and he's also a really nice down to earth guy and a caring doctor. Couldn't ask for more.

He did a great job and very professional. Staff was very…read morefriendly and helpful. We arrived on and were shown to a a room with in a short time period.

Excellent Experience with Dr. Shannon Wong and Austin Eye…read more I underwent an enVista premium multifocal IOL lens replacement on my right eye on January 27, 2026, at Austin Eye's Bee Caves location to correct astigmatism and improve my reading vision. As someone who has always disliked wearing reading glasses, I decided to have the procedure done in one eye first to see if it would provide the improvement I was hoping for. My decision was greatly influenced by a colleague who had cataract surgery with Dr. Shannon Wong at the same clinic. She only had one eye treated and experienced such a significant improvement in her vision that she never needed surgery on the other eye. From my initial consultation through surgery day, every step of the process was handled professionally and efficiently. The front desk staff made check-in smooth and welcoming. During pre-op, the nurse took the time to thoroughly explain everything, answer my questions, and ease my anxiety. Her empathy and reassuring manner helped calm my nerves considerably. I was given 5 mg of Valium before the procedure and remained awake throughout. Once I was brought into the operating room, everything happened very quickly. Dr. Shannon Wong explained each step as he worked and let me know I might feel some pressure during the procedure. Fortunately, I felt no discomfort at all. The surgery itself took only about 10 minutes, and before I knew it, I was finished and on my way to recovery. Since I traveled from Las Vegas for the procedure, my husband and I stayed overnight in a hotel. The next morning, I returned for my follow-up appointment, where my vision was checked and everything looked great. We were then able to fly home to Las Vegas with peace of mind. I was instructed to use prescribed eye drops for several weeks as part of my recovery. For the first few weeks after surgery, I experienced some nighttime glare while driving and noticed shadows around objects during daytime walks and hikes. However, these visual effects gradually improved and completely resolved within about three months. More recently, on October 22, 2026, I returned to Austin Eye for a YAG laser procedure to improve some blurry reading vision and restore clarity. The treatment was quick, painless, and covered as part of the package I originally paid for. My only expense was a $50 copay. Considering the original cost of $7,300, I appreciate the excellent long-term support provided by the practice. Today, I am very happy with both the service and the outcome of my procedure. As a nurse with an active lifestyle, wearing glasses was often inconvenient at work, in the gym, and during outdoor activities. The freedom from constantly relying on glasses has been life-changing. In addition, I no longer have the recurring expense of purchasing new eyeglasses every year, which typically cost me between $350 and $450 annually. I would like to sincerely thank Dr. Shannon Wong and the entire Austin Eye team for their outstanding care, professionalism, and expertise. The procedure was absolutely worth the investment. In fact, my two sisters are now considering the same procedure after seeing how pleased I am with my results. I highly recommend Austin Eye and Dr. Shannon Wong to anyone considering lens replacement surgery.

And unless my memory is failing, his father (Dr. Mitchel Wong) treated my mother's cataracts in the 1980s. I have always been impressed by the state-of-the-art skills and equipment Austin Eye maintains. I'm also impressed that the Wongs have chosen to share their expertise by endowing an eye institute at the University of Texas at Austin. My most recent personal experience with Austin Eye was surgery for lens replacement. While some have derided the facility on Bee Caves Rd as factory-like, I would counter that with the fact that consistent good practices yield consistently good results. I felt well cared for throughout the process, and the results (my excellent recovery and visual acuity) speak for themselves. In the event there had been any problems, I was given Dr. Wong's direct cell number and email. The Austin Eye facility is beautiful, modern, and well-maintained. The same may be said of the older location along Jollyville Rd. I highly recommend Austin Eye for their expertise, state-of-the-art equipment set, and very positive and helpful office staff.

I scheduled an appointment (I was able to be seen the next day) and the visit went smoothly. The office staff was friendly and efficient, and Dr. Lindsey was delightful. Every good thing Michelle said about Dr. Lindsey was true for me, too. We had a good time chatting about faculty we knew in common. My fears of an eye infection were groundless (my discomfort was most likely due to allergies so she gave me some eyedrops). I had her do a full refraction and eye exam since I was already there. She found my current eyeglass prescription was fine and didn't need to be changed, and that my eyes were perfectly healthy (she said they were likely the healthiest she'd see all day). I'll see her again in a year, and look forward to it. If you need an ophthalmologist who is well-trained in diseases of the eye as well as the normal eyeglass and contact lens fitting, then I recommend Dr. Lindsey. Also, she hates waiting at the doctor's office, so she works hard to stay on schedule, which I so appreciate. Doctors who realize that their patients' time is valuable, too, are much too rare. I'd recommend Dr. Lindsey without reservation.
